How this book helped me
I was a nervous wreck and had been on the verge of suicide and could not find medication to alleviate my anxiety symptoms. I found RECOVERY through Alchoholics Ananymous, because I was not an alchoholic, but had reached a point where I could not sleep more than an hour a day and I found alchohol provided temporary relief but was afraid of becoming alchoholic. After reading this book and attending 6 months of meetings, the symptoms slowly disappeared and I was able to use the tools explained in the book to regulate my thoughts and as a result, regulate my feelings. This book is practical and very useful on an ongoing basis. I strongly recommend it.

sincerely,

michael

A Question of Degree...
I received an e-mail from a lady who told me that rational-emotive therapy saved her relationship and maybe even her life! And I believe her. But some of us need more heavy "Head Work" I believe. Real "Trench Warfare". Dr. Low teaches you cognitive-behavioral therapy in this book. But he doesn't leave it there. Daily readings. And ONE TWO-HOUR MEETING A WEEK WITH OTHER NUT CASES! Why am I screaming? Because it is easy to sit at your computer and be mean. But you can't get

away with this in real life. I read most of Low's book after my first meeting. I felt excruciating anxiety for 4 days BEFORE THE MEETING! I'm screaming again, right? Sorry. And my reading didn't really DIG IN until I got to the meeting. You say something and then everybody else contributes and then these cognitive techniques are really cut into your brain. This is the main text. So it is one-third of the program. The other two parts are daily application and one meeting a week. It seems that people with psychological problems make TREMENDOUS demands on themselves. This book will re-wire your brain. And that may take awhile. But remember this. According to Dr. Low, when you cut a "temper" sequence of working yourself up into anxiety and anger or down into depression, you will be automatically reducing those HIGHER STRESSORS which you will have to confront. Let's make it simple. Asking a question of somebody on the street may cause incredible anxiety. Let's say 99. But if you "spot" this scenerio and replace it with realistic thoughts ("I'm not doing anything wrong") and endorse yourself ("I did just fine") - this process will reduce the the anxiety of public speaking, say, from 1,000 to 859. Good deal, huh? As Low says, "Strike at the Weakest Link". If your dog dies and you have a BIG DEPRESSION of 876, let us say, and you practice this program and your spouse dies, you might only get hit with a 700! Whereas, before, it might have been 7,000, given you a stroke, and put you in a hospital. Do buy the book. I could philosophize about all the chapters (Like "The Courage to Make Mistakes", chapter 30), but I think you now understand the whole purpose of the text. If you don't want to wait, then find out where the closest Recovery, Inc. Meeting is (they are worldwide for those of you in Guam), take 5 minutes, run in, and buy a copy. Good luck.

When All Else Fails...
This is THE book on mental health for any kind of disorder from compulsive eating to schizophrenia. Tens of thousands of people have been helped by this book. I already have been helped greatly. Self-disscipline is the only answer. And I think we all know this at some level. There is no easy way to happiness. The paradox is that we have to go through misery in order to be happy. I have written reviews on meditation for Amazon. And I do feel that this is what really makes us into warm human beings. But I did confer with practioners who have practiced for over 30 years. And in pathological conditions (severe depression, obsession-compulsion, eating disorders, and similar problems including schizophrenia) - many people need a little more. This also includes anxiety disorders which so many of us suffer from. Alcoholics Anonymous costs nothing for the treatment of alcoholism. And Recovery, Inc. costs a recommended donation of $2 for a 2-hour meeting. A.A. works despite the technocrats and their twisted statistics. The Mad Scientists. And Recovery, Inc. has been helping people all over the world for mental problems. And this is their Bible just as "Alcoholics Anonymous" or the Big Blue Book is the Bible of A.A. Dr. Low had created a system of cognitive behavioral therapy that works! Then came the "new breed" of healers who promised us self-esteem in ten weeks or 3 minutes a day. They ignored Low (ripped him off actually) and attacked A.A. They are not a "well-meaning" breed of lion tamers. In this book, you will learn about "The Courage to Make Mistakes". You will find that the first goal in mental health is to shoot for being average. Whether you think you are Napolean or "exceptional", you can afford to be average according to Dr. Low. This was all stated way before Drs. Ellis and Beck decided they were the new scientists of mental health. Dr. Low created the cognitive-behavioral

approach way before these gentlemen. The only difference is that his approach works. Please refer to "recovery-inc.com" on the net. A diagnosis from a qualified physician comes first in Low's method. Then you will be allowed to attend meetings. Yes, you can leave early. That is part of recovery. "Spotting" when you are beating yourself up with thoughts. And you "encourage" yourself for your progress. The people seem very intelligent and kind. Both my psychiatrist and therapist are ga-ga about Recovery, Inc. They love it and recommended it to me. The changes are swift and lasting. But not in 10 weeks or 3 minutes. It's very much of a shame that A.A. and Recovery Inc., which originated in the thirties when people were not looking for a "quick fix", are now being over-looked by the new intelligensia. Many have been hurt by these pseudo-intellectuals from the sixties. Dr. Low emphasizes that we go into a "DANGER" alert kind of status all the time. Many need to change this to "DISTRESSING". As he states in the book, sometimes a headache is just a headache and not a brain tumor! I am so grateful to Recovery, Inc. and it's kind members. Along with A.A. and my Insight Meditation course (also available from Amazon.com), I don't feel that I will ever be truly lacking in the ability to love others and to be loved in return. Thank you.

Three years later....
I am the one who wrote the review...three long years ago! I am still reading, enjoying, and gaining new insights from this book! I have doubled my income many, many times as a result, and I look forward to a future of even more prosperity! The principles are deceptively simple, but try them out and you will be pleased with the results! You have nothing to lose...but your unhappiness.

GREAT BENEFIT
If you suffer any financial problems and you feel that there is no way of pulling yourself out of these problems, then i will recommend this book highly to be read. If reading it did not change your situation, then at lease it will give a hope and an inspiratin and defenitely you will look at the things from a very optimistic angle. The theory of the book is very logical and convincing and makes you think how life is simple. This book for sure gives you the courage, confident, inspiration and the well to change things on you or around you to something you have always dreamed of.

You will not be sorry
This book is truly a wonderful book. Such a easy read and anyone who has read it will tell you that they wish they would have read it sooner. People will say that the book worked for them over and over again. It has for me. My salary has gone up by forty percent by reading this book. I own my own business and since reading it our sales have gone from $275K-$325 to $450K. When my business took a turn for the worst this book (stonecutter) picked me up and put me back on the right track.

This book will not tell you how to get rich QUICK. It will tell you simply how to obtain wealth. Pick it up, read it and you will never be sorry you did.

Heartwarming Tear-jerker
Get the kleenex ready, because this is a heartwarming tear-jerker. However, it will provide some comfort and assistance in dealing with the grief of losing a beloved pet. An ideal gift book for the animal lovers in your life. Buy several copies at a time, and keep them on hand, for when the appropriate occasion arises, and for when the right words fail.
Arlene Millman
author of BOOMERANG - A MIRACLE TRILOGY
(The tale of a remarkable Boston Terrier)

Help for the grief process
This is a wonderful, heartwarming book. It helped me tremendously after several of my pets died. This book gave me peace of mind as well as hope for the future. It is written in a clear, concise, easy-to-understand manner & would be helpful if read to children as well. I raise show dogs & will be recommending this book to all my puppy buyers for the time when the inevitable happens. If you have lost a pet at any time of your life, this book will help you with the grieving process. Be sure to have a box of tissues at hand!

Comforting Hope for bereaved Pet Owners
Four weeks ago, my beloved family German Shepard/husky-mix dog of fourteen years had to be put down because of ravaging cancer in the spine which finally immobilized him. I tried not to think what I would do or how I would deal with the impending moment of decision, but it did come and now all I have are memories and pictures of the happy times. Steve Wohlberg's book has brought great hope and joy to my heart as I continue to grieve my dog's absence each day. His painful ordeal forced me to ask many questions which have thankfully been addressed in this thought-provoking book. Many pet owners, myself included, have established deep, connecting relationships with our pets, almost on the same level as people. Why is it then, that we should be allowed to experience these deep-seated loving relationships with our pets, only to have to say goodbye - sometimes snatched suddenly and unexpectedly from our grasp in tragic circumstances as the Wohlbergs did? Will our pets ever be restored to us and all made right again? Or do we all say goodbye forever to our animals who love us unconditionally? And why should these animals have to suffer an eternal extinction for a sin problem that was caused by people, not animals? This book is unique and unlike any other. If you are like me and want to know what the possibility is of one day seeing our pets again, then this is definitely a book worth reading and sharing with your family, friends and neighbors. You just won't find this topic discussed anywhere else in such an intriguing, throught-provoking manner. Simply a must for any animal lover. I have personally bought three copies as gifts already and will be getting more to give away.

Transformation in Action
This book provides a practical guide for people who are concerned about the direction of our future. It can help anyone interested in making personal and social changes that will model for and teach the children of tomorrrow how to relate in partnership with each other and our planet. I recommend this book to anyone that would like guidance and help in creating a culture of peace.

The Power of Politics
The Power of Partnership is a readable, "doable" book! It starts with the individual, moves to intimate relationships, relationships in organizations, workplaces, and communities. For all of life is relationships and until we learn how to live them out in a respectful (partnership) mode, we are stuck in the control (dominator) model.
Eisler's guide at the end of each chapter tells us where to go from here: from thinking to next steps action and even more.
Great for book study groups, peace and justice groups and even for an individual who is ready to take a leadership role, or even just one next step.

A transformational book
Riane Eisler has written another book with the potential to transform culture and our perceptions of what is and what can be. Highly recommended!

America the isolated
This is a wonderful book- well-written, insightful, and engaging. It provides a unique perspective on the isolated American culture and why our relationships suffer in this setting. The book is more than just an analysis of what's hurting our relationships- it makes a convincing argument that we are not helpless American drones but can get up and do something to change our lives. In this regard, the book is very empowering and well worth reading whether you are American or not. Avery Z. Conner, author of "Fevers of the Mind".

A manifesto for modern living!
As a transplant to a big city with no family and few friends close by, I had to work hard to develop meaningful relationships in my life. This book underscores why doing this is so important. Dr. Will Miller is right -- it's those close, "Refrigerator Rights" relationships that make life worthwhile. This book is a great read.

I am stunned and amazed
I went to a book signing where the authors were available for questions, and they gave a little presentation based on the ideas presented in "Refrigerator Rights". My first thought, "What a goofy title to a book"! I understand now the reason for the silly title, it makes a difficult and painful topic more palatable to a deadened soul. I never really saw just how far I've gotten from where I should be in this culture. The book does a great job of showing how our culture of silly amusement, me-centered living, and technology have thwarted our ability to relate to others intimately. Basically, I never realized just how much I suck. It gives the reader a clear diagnosis of how messed up he/she is. I realize now why I don't have real lasting peace in my life. I see that I need refrigerator rights. My life has been changed forever.

"The action/baseball book of the year!"
This was definitely one of the best books of the year. It's about a little boy and how he has a lot of nevers in his life and finally gets the chance to play baseball in a league. He and Heather have a fine relationship. If you know what I mean. Overall this was a fantastic book!

It's a Homerun!!!
Striking Out is a great book for baseball lovers. If you don't like baseball I suggest you don't read it. The book is full of surprises and unexpected happenings on every page. It is one of the best books I have read. If you like this book I encourage you to read the sequels, Farm Team and Hardball.

"Striking Out" Review by Adam Wasilewski
I recommend this book to anyone who loves baseball and is 13 years old and up. I think it a great and interesting book because it has a good description of life on a poor farm in the 1970's. For example, "Besides, who else is gonna help me buck bales?" Abner said. "We can't afford to go out and pay nobody." When the coach talked to Billy, he said, "You ever think about playing summer baseball?" "Some kids got to work in the summer," Billy said. I wanted to keep reading to see if Abner will allow Billy to go town. In conclusion, if you are interested in baseball books, read this awesome book.

Life Changing
This book is life changing. I first met Bob through his son, my schoolmate Chris, in Malaysia, and thought he was Just another friend's dad(don't take it personally Bob, you were all like that:). After more than ten years, I arranged to visit Bob, his wife Judy, and my old school mate Chris. I was advised by Chris to read the book as a precursor to meeting Bob, so as not to "shock" me when I met him again. HOW WRONG COULD CHRIS BE!!! Bob's vitality, energy, and will to live life to it's fullest, regardless of the obstacles, should be a lesson to all so called able-bodied-people. I used to think that being put in a wheelchair would destroy my life. I now know I was wrong. Bob, you are a hero to me.

An inspirational, heartwarming book for everyone.
This book was impossible to put down. Mr. Horn's determination, will to live, outlook on life, and his achievements are something we all could take a lesson from. He seems so happy and vibrant you almost forget that he typed the whole book with his foot! His descriptions of his family and friends support is enough to make the happiest person in the world jealous. This book is a tribute to the human spirit and to Mr. Horn and his family

Superb book detailing what it's like to have ALS
As a person with the same disease, I found myself saying "ME too!" to all of the stories and feelings. This book is uplifting and presents ALS as a condition that happens to our bodies but never to our minds and souls. Final piece of advice: Ignore the title. It's the worst part of the book.

Sexual Chemistry: Nice Guys And Players Level II
Published in Paperback by E.R.L. Publishing (05 April, 2002)
Author: Rom Wills
Amazon base price: $13.00
Average review score:

An okay read
Well I did think this book was pretty good, it just didn't have the same "bite" as his first book did. Also, he used a of excerpts from his previous book, and this kinda seemed like a way to just make this book longer and take up space. I think the chapter about sex wasn't necessary. While granted he gave some good advice, the Nice Guy and Gamesman has trouble getting a woman to think of him sexually period, so first things first. I do like the chapter he devoted to "Mr Goodbar". The most positive think about this book is that it tells you to focus on enhancing your charisma from the inside first, and then getting yourself together mentally.

Finally The Answer
Practicing the philosophy in this book totally changed my life. Buy this book ONLY if you want to learn how to naturally and automatically exude sexual chemistry as a way of being and living your everyday life. Buy this book ONLY if you are ready to give up struggle and stress in attracting the kind of people into your life you always really wanted. The information, if you are ready to receive it, is in this book and is that powerful. The only question left is, "Are you really ready for this kind of power?".

A Cut Above
"Sexual Chemistry" goes beyond pick-up lines, NLP, and pheremones. This book is beyond everything I have read or tried before. It gets down to the essence of male-female interactions and provides methods for men to increase their natural sex appeal. I've applied the methods in the book and they really helped me.

How Will You Paint Your Life Today?
John Curran brings the thinking of noted authors and leaders together with his own philosophies to create one of the most comprehensive guides for self development on the market! This book is an excellent tool to begin to bring positive change into one's life.

Life Change, making mistakes work for you!
I have only spoken with the author John Curran on the phone about his book and am inspired and encouraged by the content and philosophy. I will soon be reading his book and look forward to it. I am a professional artist and calligrapher. I work in watercolors and inks and when a mistake is made and you have spent hours on your piece putting your heart and soul into it you have to make your mistake work for you. This was the philosophy I learned in college from my professors. What I have discovered with my mistakes in my artwork is that they have been my greatest discoveries. I look forward to reading this inspirational book and thank-you John Curran for writing something encouraging for those who want to paint their world!

very inspiring
As a sales trainer, I challenged my staff of sales reps to determine their sales goals rather than being controlled by what general society expects in regard to production. I referred to John's book and ended a memo with the title of the book, How Will You Paint Your Life Today ?, which truly impacted their thinking toward being more proactive.
