The log cabin pattern is a fairly easy pattern to work with, and Eleanor Burns' book makes it foolproof. Detailed color photos and diagrams make the directions easy to follow, even for a beginner. A perfect book for a first-time quilter.

Need a fast gift for the baby shower or just a fast introduction to patchwork? Eleanor Burns is there for you, with great illustrations, easy to understand instructions, and delicious photos of finished projects. An added bonus: detailed info on fabric quantities for various sizes of finished quilt (wall hanging, crib, twin, etc.) You don't have to struggle with the math! In fact, your only real challenge will be picking colors. She classifies "Log Cabin" as an "easy" project. Don't be misled; the finished projects can dazzle, despite the relatively simple construction methods. You can probably turn out that baby shower quilt in about 2 evenings. A king-size quilt obviously takes longer, but that's because of the time you'll spend wrestling with the greater amount of finished piecework in the machine quilting stage. Although you'll find the basic instructions for log cabin blocks in any number of quilting books, "Log Cabin Patterns" rates a place on any quilter's bookshelf.

This is the book I used to make my very first quilt. It takes you through all steps of making a quilt - buying fabric (all the measurements needed for a size are printed on one page), cutting fabric, and the assembly line method used for assembling the blocks is very easy to figure out and efficient - just make sure you sew straight! :)

All of the instructions are very clear and the large amounts of pictures are especially helpful. I would highly recommend this to a beginner quilter.

It may seem somewhat expensive since it is only one pattern, but the Quilt in a Day series is so user-friendly I find it well worth the price.

Yesterday we finished reading The Moffats by Eleanor Estes. It was about this family that lived in the yellow house on New Dollar Street. They had a cat named Catherine. The kids were named Joe, Jane, Slyvie and Rufus. The family had many adventures together in the town of Cranbury. I liked this book because it is very funny. My favorite part was when they scared Peter Frost by turning Madame the bust into a pumpkin headed ghost in the attic. It was a great story.

I loved this book. I especially liked the chapters about Rufus and Hughie running away from school and Joey dancing the Sailor's Hornpipe. Chet was my favorite character in the book, and also his brother Hughie. If they were based on real people the author knew, I'd like to read about who they really were. I love the Pudges!

The Moffats is an entertaining story about a poor family without a father that has many marvelous adventures. One of the adventures is when the Moffats help a man from the Salvation Army find his way.When the man moves to the back to get some rest he falls out and gets left behind.Read the book to find out what happens next. The Moffat family is a kind family. The book is a good family story. If you are interested in good book The Moffat's is the book for you.

This is a must read for anyone searching for a connection that it WAS real...Daughters of alcoholic mothers may feel isolated in their childhood experiences due to the family secrecy. This wonderful book was written for those of us who have been held hostage by our alcoholic mothers for far too long. Eleanor Agnew and Sharon Robideaux have given me a gift. They have helped me to come to terms with the misplaced guilt I have felt for most of my life. Their stories and those of the women they interviewed for this book have an amazingly recurrent theme. I never knew that there were so many women out there like me. Adult daughters of alcoholic mothers carry an incredible burden which affects every aspect of their lives. Agnew and Robideaux have done an excellent job of organizing their book into a guide for understanding what has happened in our wacky lives and how we can move on to sanity. The women who shared their stories,including the authors,have done a great service to all of us daughters of alcoholic mothers by letting us know that we are not alone....... I really enjoyed hearing other stories of daughters of alcoholic mothers. It aided in my therapy because it helped me remember events that I was having a hard time remembering. I found that my situation was much like others. Therefore, I didn't feel so alone. I highly recommend this book.

Much like the film this book by Elizabeth Von Arnim inspired, there is something peaceful here on these pages. This is a gentle novel about the gradual internal changes brought about by the beauty of our surroundings. It is a book that reads itself as much as it is read, the author writing with the flow of the characters thoughts and feelings as their hearts are changed by the suprise of beauty.

You will definitely enjoy this novel if you enjoyed the film. It is about love restored, and love discovered, along the wistaria covered steps leading down to the sea.

"Enchanted April" is one of my favorite books. It is such a warm, witty, wonderful story, full of hope and romance. I hear it is going to be a Broadway show this April! (fittingly) I cannot wait... I know I'm going to be the first one on line for tickets, that's for sure. All you other "Enchanted April" lovers out there, I urge you to come see this show! I'm sure this will be one of the finest shows on Broadway in a long time!

This is a delightful story...one of my favorite books! Gives you a little faith that even seemingly irreconcileable situations can be restored or transformed, that drastically different people can find common ground and become friends, and that people can change their lives for the better! A sunny read for a dark winter day!

SQUIRE'S LEGACY is a story told with so much love of the author's family.It is a true story that any of us who have grown up in the mining communities of West Virginia in the 30's,40's and 50's can relate to in many ways. When I started reading this book,it touched my heart like no other. I read this book aloud to my husband. Being a native New Yorker, I knew he might not relate to the book as I did,and I wanted hime to know what my life was like growing up in southern West Virginia during that time. We were both held captive by this book,from beginning to end. We laughed together and cried together at their joys and their tragedies.In this book,the authors JAMES AND ELLIE WHITE have caught the very essence of what family is all about. Theirs is truly a love story told with much love and tenderness.

Many have tried to portray the lives of the coal camps and the trials the people endured. This one succeeds highly.
I was the young boy who lost his father in a coal mine accident and knew Clifford and Ethel very well. Jim shows a
keen and accurate memory on these events and Ellies "editing" and writing are superb. They are to be congratulated. It has been said that someone is not really dead until they are forgotten. Jim and Ellie have assured Clifford and Ethel will not be forgotten for many years.

My husband and I grew up in the same area as portrayed in this book. We felt the honesty, storytelling, and details of the lives mentioned were just like we remembered. We laughed, and cried and wished others would read and apply the values taught in this book. It reminded us of hard times, hard work, the love and lessons we grew up experiencing. We would recommend this book to any and all who long to be inspired.

Face-paced, realistic, yet peppered with wry humor - a mystery I couldn't put down. You don't have to be a nurse to
appreciate the hospital background, but if the killer doesn't scare you, the "managed care" system will. Sullivan knows her
stuff!

In Twice Dead, we get to share the twists and turns of discovering a killer with Monika Everhardt and her best friend and police officer, BJ. These characters are likable, and they ring true all the way through the story. Even the minor characters have substance. As a lay person, I liked seeing the inner workings of a big city hospital in this era of "managed care". Of course, I loved putting together the pieces of the murder puzzle, one reason those of us who read mysteries love them. The hospital setting, along with the neighborhoods of South St. Louis, add to the richness of the story. Several of my mystery-reading friends and family are getting Twice Dead for Christmas. I look forward to Eleanor's Sullivan's next book in this series.

From start to finish, this book kept me turning one page right after another. As a fan of Anne Perry's Hester Latterly, I am delighted to have a modern nurse following Hester's impressive footsteps.
One of the most important aspects of this book is the accuracy with which Sullivan portrays the pressures and challenges of modern nursing. In addition, the characters are interesting, the plot compelling and the suspense was compelling. I'm looking forward to the second novel. PS. Many of my friends will get a copy of Twice Dead in their Christmas stocking!

An extremely thoughtful, timely and portable book, very well documented. Should have been required reading for some very prominent business executives,accountants, investors who lacked perspective on what a value led organization could be. This is also important reading for the person who runs or is starting a small business, or not-for-profit organization. Particularly interesting is the chapter on E Dimension or the role the internet will play in the company's strategies. Carefully computing and comparing the cost benefits of various implementation modes is stressed. Hundreds of important issues are discussed, as for example, the efficacy of having workers tele-commute. Bloxham points out the pros and cons of these arrangements, and notes that a value led organization must weigh these factors before making a decision. Another key area is the discussion on globalization-must reading for a business person hoping to expand across national borders. If the book has a flaw, it is that the topic raised could all be greatly expanded and this reader feels a certain frustration in not being able to contact the author and discuss an issue in depth. But of course the book is intended to be an overview. On the basis of this I would also recommend the book to business students, because it will lead them to fruitful and in depth study of the more important issues facing entrepreneurship today.

This short and concise book should be on the required reading list for all business school students and faculty,accountants, lawyers,CEO"s,CFO"s, corporate directors and shareholders. It emphasizes thhe view that there are other measurements of corporate responsibility than the "bottom line".

Such ideas as openbook accounting,executive pay for performance,independent outside directors,workforce diversity,and shareholder rights are advocated.

Value-Led Organizations, by Eleanor Bloxham is a must for all companys, organiztions and those interested in money management. If corporations such as we have read, and heard about so often in the news these past few months had heeded what is expounded on in this book, we would not be in the terrible mess we now are. A must reading for financial people.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advanced copy of this stunning pictorial tribute to Buster Keaton written by his widow Eleanor Keaton and film historian Jeffrey Vance. Page after page of photos I've never seen before (one of the highlights being a series of pictures of Chaplin and Keaton rehearsing their routine in LIMELIGHT!). I have nearly all the books published in English on Keaton and I've found at least 50 great photos in this book I've never seen before. Rudi Blesh's KEATON used to be my favorite Buster book, now it's Eleanor Keaton's BUSTER KEATON REMEMBERED. I was expecting more text -- I thought it was going to be a biography -- but it is actually an illustrated survey of his life and films. However, the text that the book has is beautifully written. Some of Jeffrey Vance's introduction is worthy of James Agee or Walter Kerr.

The book has a substantial Afterword by silent film historian Kevin Brownlow but why it was placed in the back of the book and not as a Foreword baffles me.

Although I never got to meet Eleanor Keaton in person I'm very glad she was able to write this book before she passed away. Who better to sum up Buster best in book form than his wife Eleanor Keaton?

Just when you thought you had read everything about the Great Stone Face, along comes this remarkable book. "Buster Keaton Remembered" is a revelation -- featuring a treasure trove of never-before-seen photographs and a thoughtful text by Keaton's widow, Eleanor (who, sadly, died before the book's publication). The closing comments by film historian Kevin Brownlow are a nice touch. In all, an affectionate and fitting tribute to a serio-comic genius.

I, too, have every book written in English about Buster. I've been a fan for 25 years, and worked in Marketing in the 80's for the 16mm distributor of all Buster's films, even chatting a few times with Raymond Rohauer. I've met Buster's grandson and grandaughter, and attended many events in Los Angeles surrounding Buster's 100th birthday. Got all his classic films on tape. And visited his grave at Forest Lawn. So imagine how surprised I was to read so many new personal anecdotes, as well as fresh details about his working methods that shed new light on his creative genius. Not to mention the photos -- dozens I'd never seen before, beautifully reproduced -- including those elusive shots of Buster smiling! Eleanor even demystifies just how Buster made his own porkpie hats. This is truly a love letter from Eleanor to Buster, a tribute by the person who knew him best. Now I've got just as much respect for the woman who brought him lasting happiness as I do for the artist himself.

This is a very satisfying book, and an absolute must-have for any Keaton fan.

This book is a great incite into the times of elizabeth the first. Written from the perspective of Elizabeths cousin, this was an honest, enlightening and interesting book. It has certainly got me gripped on the British monarchys history. Elizabeth is seen to be a domineering, spoilt person but yet extremely loyal to friends, family and her favourite servants. She is torn between the love of the charming Robert Dudley and her obsession not to have to share her crown.

this is a really wonderful book. it's so descriptive and it feels as if you are looking through an window of Tudor England and seeing everything, from a jewel on a queen's splendid crown to the look in a man's confident eyes. Lettice tells her story so well, and makes the characters so real and believable. It is a good mix of entertainment and history.

It was refreshing to see Queen Elizabeth from a different point of view; you always hear her described as "Good Queen Bess". Of course, we are shown through this book that the Queen wasn't as good and sweet as everyone thought she was. Granted, though, she was still brilliant.

It was also interesting to see more about the Queen's "favorites". Overall, I would highly reccomend this book.

I don't usually read political biographies, but this one gave me the hope I was searching for in the face of the depressing political realities of today. It's inspiring to read about a fiercely intelligent woman who follows her inner moral compass while compromising when necessary to get things done. I wish everyone serving in Congress had to read this book. Every voter should as well!

This fascinating biography is not only a pager turner, it also an insightful discourse on how to be an agent of change. This book is a MUST READ for anyone who is grappling with issues of how to change policy, whether as an "insider", "outsider", or hybrid. It is also an inspirational story of an terrific woman. I couldn't put it down.

A fantastic, inspiring book for these times. Civil Rights history comes alive in the Congresswoman's life story. The writing is diligent and refreshing, illustrating Norton's true integrity and commitment to the core values of the United States Constitution.Lester tells the story in a unique fashion. I couldn't put it down.
