A very good book, but beware recent changes in the law.
I used this book to teach a law school course in the Czech Republic. It has an excellent selection of cases from which to teach the major areas of European Union (or European Community depending on your view) law. Get the most recent available supplement (1996 to my knowledge) and realize that there have been recent significant changes in this area of law.

Out of the Shadow--Into the Sun
Negotiating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through the United Nations was not the only post-FDR contribution of Eleanor Roosevelt. This extraordinary woman was a powerful force within the Democratic Party and America until the day she died and left a legacy in her own right on issues of civil rights and civil liberties that finds voice even today.

Black's book focuses on Roosevelt's post-White House years and brings ER's domestic front activities and contributions to light--showing the long-term and deep nature of Eleanor Roosevelt's convictions. The book traces ER's growth in understanding of issues and underscores the courage it took to live her life in the forefront of debate and controversy.

This book should be read by anyone interested in Eleanor Roosevelt for the insight it brings and the truly interesting stories it tells. I particularly found the chapter on ER's relationship with John F. Kennedy fascinating and learned that ER withheld her support for his candidacy until he promised her action on civil rights. Ever the consumate tactition, she even rearranged the chairs at the famous meeting between them at Val Kil so she would be sitting higher than him.

"Casting" is pain-stakingly researched and well documented. Allida Black's interpretation of ER is founded on years of work with Roosevelt's papers and other sources.

Enlightening children's historical
A story of a chinese boy living with his grandfather at a mining camp during the gold rush. Chang is lonely and wants a pony so he would have a "pengyo" a friend. This story delicately discusses the hurt a person feels when they are made fun of for being culturally different. Chang's idea of panning for gold to earn money for his dream horse doesn't pan out, but honesty and hard work does. A wonderful story that will educate and entertain your child.

Very moving stories and a great publishing house
Dickens' Christmas Books might be some of his most overlooked works, except for, of course, "A Christmas Carol." But in these stories he has captured the season's spirits of reflection and faith better than any other work I've read. "A Christmas Carol" is an acknowledged masterpiece; "The Chimes" and "The Battle of Life" are particularly moving as well. Four of these five stories bring me to tears by their ends.

I started in 1991 to read one story per year in the published sequence, (for Christmas 2000, I'm reading The Haunted Man again) and this has made December and its holidays more enjoyable and meaningful for me. I hope to continue the cycle and look forward to reading "this year's Christmas story" aloud to my family as my kids grow up.

Oxford Press/World's Classics publishes excellent quality paperbacks, and they do justice here to Dickens' powerful works. I highly recommend this work (and especially this publisher) to anyone; if you're looking for "A Christmas Carol", get this volume of all the Christmas Stories and enjoy even more of Dickens' masterful ability to weave the human condition into such moving short stories.

Very Good Book
This is a very good book. Luckily it cameout before Keating 5 because Cranston was such an admirable California political figure that we didn't have to read about his major involvement in the scandal. Very well written book. Very well researched. The author did not make herself look stupid. Takes a good glimpse at some major politcal figures such as Max Rafferty, Pat Brown, Clair Engle amongst others. This book should give you a good glimpse at Cranston if you want to learn more about him.

Social Hypocracy
This is a story of social hypocracy and how people who claim to be respectable persecute others who are innocent.
This book takes a stand on social seclusion, persecution
and victimisation, with the persecuted becoming the victor. This is a fine example of someone triumphing over adversity.

Makes the Tenth Century come back to life!
The title makes the tenth century sound so depressing and dull, but the text makes the tenth century come back to life. Great stories about great figures from the past. The author has a knack for pulling you in and making you want to know what happened next.

A great survey of the time period, it gives your that big picture of how different events relate to one another while making them intriguing at the same time. If you have any interest in this time period, or wonder if you should, find a copy of this book!

A highly recommended reference
This book is very up to date, well organized, concise and details a wide variety of expressions, phrases and idioms that are used in Latin America with examples of its usage. I would recommend this book to Spanish speakers at any level both native and non-native since the Spanish language is so diverse. It would serve as handy reference guide to understanding everyday speech, colloquialisms and slang. The second half of the book details common English expressions with the equivalent Spanish interpretation, thus enabling the speaker to authenticate his/her Spanish speaking capabilities instead of attempting to translate word for word. Both teachers and students will learn frequently used expressions as well as the intended meaning thus enhancing their ability to understand speakers from various countries, as well implement the use of these idioms in their everyday speech. I am a Spanish teacher and strongly recommend this book of expressions to anyone who wishes to bring their competencey in Spanish to the next level. This is a worthy purchase and a quality language reference.
