An outstanding contribution to World War I studies.
About Face: A Daughter Looks Back At A Soldier And The Great War is the biographical account of Vernon Darius Elliott, Eleanor Brownell's father who joined the American army in 1918 and went off to fight in France. Vernon rose to the rank of Battalion Major Sergeant of the 16th Field Artillery of the Fourth Division. During the Battle of the Meuse-Argone, he and his unit fought continuously for twenty four days. For his bravery in delivering a message to the French army during heavy fighting, Vernon received the French "croix de guerre". He was gassed on the front line and spent several months in a hospital. Following the Armistice, Vernon rejoined his division as part of the American Army of Occupation. A highly welcome and engaging contribution to World War I studies, About Face is based upon thirty letters Vernon wrote to his family, a history published by the Fourth Division, and family memories.

No-fail recipes for everday meals
The book teaches you everything you need to know from how to hard-boil an egg to stir frying broccoli. It makes are great gift of any beginning cook.

Recipes include breakfast foods, eggs, breads, soups, sandwiches, salads, main dishes, vegetables, desserts, & appetizers. There is no gourmet fare here, just the delicious uncomplicated meals for everyday people.

Some of my favorite desserts are the apple dumplings & easy lemon chiffon pie. I enjoyed the oven pot-roast, meatballs, chili, & pork chops as well. I know I will never get bored with 8 different potato recipes.

I also loved the one-step lasagna. It's great because you don't have to cook the noodles before baking, making it quick & easy to make. The never-fail cheese soufflé & salmon pate will impress dinner guests without hours of frustration.

The Absolute Beginner's cookbook 2
I have been married for 45 years and consider myself a good cook;I have collected literally hundreds of various cookbooks during this time, and once I discovered this book, I have used recipes from it about 10:1 compared to my other cookbooks. For example, we enjoy Victor's Chicken almost on a weekly basis. We have also sent copies of the book to all of our five children and several nieces; perhaps this explains why it is out of print!

Absolute Beginner's Cookbook
I purchased this handy cookbook for my daughter's 12th birthday. The author has a clever sense of humor and an ability to break cooking vocabulary down into easy to understand words for those previously uninitiated in the kitchen. Now at age 22 and married for a year, my daugther said that she can't find her copy since moving several times and wants another for some of her favorite recipes. The book is not a children's cookbook, but for anyone new at cooking. I'd love to see a repeat printing.

Duckett's book makes this ancient king three-dimentional.
This book is outstanding. It draw a vibrant picture of a king whose life is otherwise obscured by the mists of time. Duckett presents a picture of a man who is simultaneously legendary and very human. This book is a wonderful choice for anyone interested in medieval times or the roots of British culture. Duckett's writing style is clean and consice, free of the usual scholarly jargon. It is a must for any student of history, amature or professional.

If you like to READ cookbooks, you'll love this one!
Eleanor Ostman's column, Tested Recipes, appeared in the St. Paul Pioneer Press for over 30 years. "Always on Sunday" is a wonderful compilation of the very best of those columns. From great home-tested recipes and "from-scratch" cooking, to personal glimpses of Eleanor and her family as they tasted-tested hundreds of recipes, readers really felt like they knew Eleanor personally. Always on Sunday is like a great church cookbook that reads like a diary!

Reality: Offred fights and survies
This book deals with many things such as humanity and class but the main thing it deals with is the struuggle for women and how they gain and lose power by their sexuality. Offred has power over the Commander and his wife because she is fertile but her fate lies in their hands so they also have power over her. I really enjoyed this book it was mind boogleing to think that these situations can and do occur in society

A very comprehensive introduction to muslim architecture
I love this book. It gives you a very good insight to muslim architecture and is at the same time easy to read and entertaining. As an orientalist in a postgrad study program I got to read books on the subject that are much more confusing or that are written in a slightly boring style. This book is a thorough introduction that never just stays on the surface of the matter. It does not give you a chronological account of architecture history, but answers a lot of questions like "Why it was built like it was built?" In the back part of the book you find plans and short descriptions of the most important buildings, in the first part you find a lot of good photographs and even better articles on single subjects like materials or building techniques. But the most important thing: It's NEVER boring.
