Anti globalists and classical economists, wake up!
Anti globalists, the serious ones, aim for a happier world. Classical economists see no place for happiness in economics. Both will improve the quality of their thinking by reading this book. It provides in just 200 pages an excellent overview of concepts in economics and their consequences on motivation and happiness, supported by statistical evidence. The presentation of the evidence can be improved by using more tables and less graphs, or graphs with the corresponding tables in an appendix. Even though references are given with the graphs it is impossible to find the original data in the Internet. It is also of interest to policy makers in business and government. For governments some well-founded recommendations are made concerning participation of the electorate, referenda, and decentralisation. For business the ideas about the link between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are useful concepts.

This book is a must for everyone, heart problems or not.
Following my mother's open heart surgery nine years ago, I began thinking about my own health and how to slow down a seemingly inevitable consequence of my own life. Mr. Cortis's compassion for his patients is very reassuring in the midst of ever increasing trends toward the merging of medicine and big business. One thing I really respected is his admission that doctors do not always know best and that a positive, strong will to survive coupled with love and support from family and friends can indeed produce miracles.

His explanations of crucial mind-body-spirit connections are easy to understand and do not come across as the usual standard metaphysical fodder. Using real examples of real people, he shows us the miraculous healing power of touch, the importance of being surrounded with love, and the incredible results of the will to persevere in the the face of adversity. Each chapter also includes explanations of the human body and how the mind influences fun! ction, and mental exercises for creating a better attitude for a healthier heart. Most importantly, he teaches us that we do have a large role in influencing how our bodies heal themselves, and suggests many ways to achieve this, much of which is based on how we view ourselves.

I have enjoyed this book immensely and am reading it a second time four years later; to remind myself that I CAN make a difference and that it is in my own best interest, as well as of those who care about me, to do so.

Absolutely Wonderful
Korman has enough flair and and enough off-the-wall ideas to keep this book (and the others in the series) entertaining even after reading it half a dozen times. An excellent book for younger readers (he wrote the book while he was in 7th grade) who arn't ready for his other hillarious high-school geared books (Semester in the life of a garbage bag, don't care High, and Son of Interflux.) I still enjoy his books immensly and I'm almost out of College.

Jackass Brandy Delivers a Kick to Readers
"Jackass Brandy" is a book that will be of particular delight to Northern Californians or students of California's more recent history.

Bruno Buti, through witness and participant interviews, coupled with his own recollections from childhood, paints a very interesting and often humorous account of the effect Prohibition had in California's San Francisco Bay Area.

The story is based on the true experiences of Michael Buti and details his efforts in attempting to run a moonshining operation in the San Francisco East Bay community of Castro Valley. The cat and mouse games of the Federal Revenue Agents is interesting and often amusing. Less amusing is the level of corruption found in the various levels of law enforcement bureaucracy.

"Jackass" was the nickname of the particular form of liquor distilled throughout the area as opposed to the more familiar terms "white lightning" or "moonshine" popularized in similar operations in the American South.

"Jackass Brandy" is entertaining and colorul, while filling in important bits of San Francisco Bay Area history. It's a good read!

Worth Every Penny
This is an utterly elegant book, describing a special company during a special era.

Even if you are not into Astons, the photography is scintillating.

And if you are into Astons, those marvelous characters such as Wyer, Collins, Brown, Moss and many others really come alive.

Knightmare Chess is a dream:
Bent Larsen, the Danish Chess Grandmaster was quoted as saying that "Chess is a beautiful mistress". Well, my mistress has shown me her dark side!

Nightmare Chess consists of a set of 80 heavy-weight playing cards. Each of these cards, when played, modify the standard game of chess in unique and entertaining (or bizarre) ways. Some effects apply only to one piece, others to many or all pieces. Cards can even interact with each other. Its like playing "Magic: the Gathering" over a chess board.

The cards themselves are high-quality. Each has a painted image related in some way to the effect of the card. Most of the imagery is dark, some even slightly disturbing. (nothing offensive, or even too worrisome for parents) The rules are straightfoward and brief. Most questions about card interactions are resolved by the basic rules, the remainder should be resolvable with a quick discussion with your opponent.

Gameplay is a chaotic blast! I love chess, but the addition of the Nightmare cards infused the game with a wonderful unpredictability.

For fans of chess or games like "Magic", you need this game! I would encourage anyone that enjoys games to give this a try.
