The boy who didn't want to be Black

Excellent Book for Everyone, not just children!
Real life issues of race, color and mixed marriages are addressed in this great little story of a small little boy that doesn't like what color he happens to be. With the help of a loving grandmother he appreciates himself and others for who they are. One passage sums up the dynamics of this wonderful children's book, "Maybe you're looking for people to act a certain way because of their color. People are people no matter what their color." Enough said. The story is even more intersting when you realize the author herself can very much relate to real-life issues of race. Her husband was asked to be an honorary member of a country club after it drew attention for having no black members when on the PGA tour schedule in a large southern city within the U.S. Thumbs up to this compassionate approach of a difficult real-life issue for some children!

A most helpful book!
As a newcomer to the vintage guitar craze, I found this to be the most helpful book I've found so far. Fun and interesting reading. Color pictures would have been nice, but the black and white ones will do. Most helpful to me was info on the smaller, lesser known makers, the overseas contracts, and what to look for and avoid. Good job!

A magical world in comics
This is a charming collection of early 20th century comics by Lionel Feininger. His colorful drawings are enrapturing: he has a great sense of design and ability to create characters. The Kinder Kids escape their elders and embark on fantastical adventures, Wee Willie Winkie sees the world through the imaginitive eyes of a child. These comics are very funny and magical.

Outstanding overview of Willie Horton case
Anderson does an excellent job of researching and interviewing to tell the true story of Willie Horton, both less and more frightening than the 1988 Bush campaign presented it

Danny Pine and Patty Plum tree
This is a delightful childrens' book.It is the story of two trees,Danny,a wise old pine, and Patty, the latest newcomer to the forest.Through Danny's wise counsel ,and the situations she encounters,Patty learns many things in the "school of life". This book teaches the effect of thoughts and attitudes on our lives and does so without "preaching".It is profoundly spiritual, but not religious. There is no mention of religious or sectarian doctrine. This is a "plus" to me. The wonderful color illustrations bring the story alive.I would recommend this book for children 2-12,and it would even benefit us grown-up kids too. There is not one of us who couldn't profit from reading and applying this book.

Intriguing Portrait of a City and its People
Every time I look through this book of paired historical and new photographs, I see something I hadn't noticed before. It's fascinating that some of the city's scenes have changed so dramatically over time, while others have remained virtually the same. Professor Osterman's painstaking research and patience in matching his settings to historical photographs have resulted in a remarkable and memorable book. I especially enjoyed his photographs of the people of Bologna. Each paired with an earlier photo taken decades before, there's something about their facial expressions and personal style that is ageless, that never changes. I felt a little like Rip Van Winkle exploring past and present simultaneously. I wish Mr. Osterman would do my city next!

A superb book, both in content and layout
Exploring the Natural Wonders of So. Africa is both an invaluable guide to the country, as well as a fine souvenir of one's visit. Each chapter highlights a particular area of interest, with maps, colored illustrations, details of driving and hiking trips, whom to contact for information. It's a book one can leaf through for hours to help plan a trip. I obtained the book in So. Africa and showed it to travel industry people with whom we came into contact. They all thought it to be an exceptionally fine book.

JazzKids First Adventures in Jazz is catchy!
This book has some extremely catchy songs for kids. I have been teaching these songs to my students for some time now and they love them! This book works especially well with kids ages 6-9 who want to learn something other than Classical music, even though I use this book in conjunction with Classical music.
