Real Good. This book real good.
When I got me this book I didnt know not much about Stellas but I knowed more then my fair shair about Strats but after I looked at it from front to rear I know almost as much about Stellas as I know or had known about Strats which is why I recomend it to anybody who want to learn about either of these two types of guitars or other guitars even. I also looked at Guitar Stories and think that this here book is better in most ways but not in some. If you by it you will like it. Garanteed! Thank you for reading my words here and keep on jamin! --Elmer

Thirty Years of Billiards

Great biography of a billiard champion
I hope this book will be reprinted soon. This book was written when Willie Hoppe was in his late 30's. In the book Hoppe describes his rise to the top of the billiard world. What I like the most about this book are the vivid descriptions of billiard players Hoppe encountered in his carreer and the matches between them. If you are a billiard player, you'll love this book.

I loved it!
I thought this book was outstanding, and definately deserved five stars! Willie Wilson is the best writer that I have met, and he is very outstanding!! Viggo is quite the charactor, and it seems as if he is a person, except in a mongoose form. Mr. Wilson wrote an excellent book! He was also a great teacher, the best one I ever had! His technique of writing is one that can not be defined with words, and is very worth having! I think anyone who is considering buying this book, should do it! I loved this book, as I am sure you will too. Its great for all ages, and is very realistic.

A very rhytmic and meaningful children's book
I purchased this book after seeing the author read it live here in Memphis. I found that the story has a very compelling message that reaches children and adults alike. I also have to say that I have seen my fair share of live children's book readings and have never seen an author read a story as dynamically as Ms. Duncan. She really gets into it

An excellent introduction to the subject
When I went away to college in 1985, my girlfriend's father gave me a copy of the then-current edition of this book. I'd played a lot of pool before, but this book changed my game from mediocre to excellent, which is why I recently bought a new copy to give to a friend who is just learning the game. The tips on holding the cue stick alone made a difference in my game; when I spent the time to practice the other principles Mosconi discusses, I began to win more often than not, and could honestly say, "I meant to do that," when I'd just made a particularly difficult shot. The fact that the book is small enough to roll up and stick in your back pocket helps; you can whip it out whenever you need to review a particular concept.

A 'must have' for all Willie buffs.
This is a long-overdue major work on Willie's recording career - meticulously researched and beautifully presented. It gives fascinating insights into the background of many of the recordings - obtained from studio session notes and from the recollections of Willie himself, his management team and fellow artistes. Thanks a million Steve Opdyke (et al).

This is the true story from Willie Stargell's mouth.
Written just a year following his retirement from the Pittsburgh Pirates as a Hall of Fame player in 1982, this book caused quite a stir at the time of its first printing. Stargell gave honest criticism of teammate and fellow Bucco slugger Dave Parker on page 241 that Parker had "turned his back on me". Captain Willie was asked by Parker to stay around for a final season in '82 as a pinch-hitter/mentor, but was largely ignored by Parker. For Parker, who briefly considered taking uniform no. 8 in honor of Stargell when he departed as a free agent for Cincinnati in 1984, it was very biting criticism.

But those comments overshadow an otherwise good book. Stargell talks about growing up poor, being abducted by an aunt who could not have her own children from the ages of 6 to 12, the strength of his mother, and his high school team at Encinal High in Oakland, CA which featured two other future major leaguers in Tommy Harper and Curt Motten. He talks about feeling the sting of racism for the first time in the major leagues, once being told at gunpoint in Roswell, NM that he would be shot dead if he played in that evening's game. He speaks of his great love of the city of Pittsburgh and his teammates, who he dedicates the book to at the end, listing every, and I mean every, player he ever shared a Pirates roster with.

The perspective Stargell gives of the glory days in club history paints the warm feel of "The Family", perhaps the closest-knit team in baseball history. His recaps of the pennant race of 1978 and the Championship run of '79 will make you feel as if you are watching the games develop from the Pirates' dugout. You will relive the Bucs great years of the 1970's, when they finished in the first division of the NL East every year, winning six division titles and two World Championships.

Stargell also talks about losing not only his close friend Roberto Clemente during that time, but Bob Moose as well.

Willie Stargell was the leading home run hitter of the 1970's. The greatest living legend in Pirates history, no player in team history ever played on as many first place clubs in a Pittsburgh uniform. He was also one of the classiest men and great leaders in baseball history, and you will find that out for yourself when you read this fine book.

Cute little story!
This is one of the first books I learned to read as a child of the 80s. I ordered it from Troll Book Club and really enjoyed the story of Willie, who is always falling behind because he is so slow. I remember repeating "Hurry up, Willie!" It was a cute little book and fun to read.
