Macintosh Pascal Programming Primer: Inside the Toolbox Using Think Pascal
Published in Paperback by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (1991)
Authors: Dave Mark, Cartwright Reed, and David Mark
Amazon base price: $26.95
Used price: $5.99
Average review score:

This book is very easy to read, especially for a tech guide.
The Macintosh Programming Primer is especially helpfull for making your Pascal programs shine with that certain "Mac" look. It goes into detail about how to do everything from Dialog Boxes in ResEdit to how to incorporate asynchronous sound into your program. It's saved my butt a few times on major high school products, and MUCH easier to read than THINK reference, or Inside Mac. The only short coming to this book is that it is a bit out of date. It only supports toolbox thingys that where in system 6 and below, though it does do a very good job explaining them and their history.

A backpack full of information about the great humorist!
Mark T-w-a-i-n was an interesting person with an exciting life! I was a little disappointed with the sad ending though. This book had BIG letters and would be easy for a fourth grader to read, but not too easy. Mark T-w-a-i-n would be good for a biography book report.

Great value. Course Technology does a good job.
This textbook places the student in the role of a systems administrator and treats the learner as a competant computer user from the first chapter. The students like this approach. Included projects build from one chapter/topic to another. However, some of the practical exercises are a little too vague for the beginner. Projects seem to jump around from using a step-by-step approach to using an overview approach, even within the same project and without warning. Order of presentation of topic is genterally good but, Chapters 4 and 7 deal with the NDS. Chapters 5 and 8 deal mainly with the file system. This alternating of topics can be very confusing for the learner. Having taught one 14 week term with this text, I would recommend dealing with the NDS, then with the file system instead of jumping around like this. I am currently teaching from this text for the second time. Also, this book should only be adopted if the class will have exclusive use of atleast one Novell server because all exercises assume that the instructor setup disk has been used. It sets up the teaching server with the assumption that only one group uses the server simultaneously and exclusively. The author prepared the exercises for his own classes and they worked well for him. I, however, must share the teaching server with 4 other classes. In order to provide my students with precise step-by-step instructions geared towards our college teaching server, I had to create my own labs. It was the students who requested more detailed lab instructions. Overall this would be a great book, 5 stars if it were more consistent in project instructions and better organized in chapter sequences. C. Booth-Smith, Durham College

A valuable resource
A well-written, concise reference covering a diverse range of topics that will be of interest to all who know the frustration of cramming complex OO systems into relational tables.

From a complete design pattern for Object and Object Relational database systems, to design patterns for declarative language symantics; from C++ and Java to SmallTalk bindings; from BNF grammars to compiler models; the book proved invaluable at overcoming the myriad problems presented to the developer implementing an object-relational DMBS.

As a direct result of this reference work I have implemented ORDBMS systems in Java and (can you believe it) JavaScript. The JavaScript implementation provides a complete persistence layer for JavaScript objects running in an ASP environment.

As a result, systems with complex data relationships that would curl the hair on a relational database programmer's head have been implemented simply and with the minimum development time.

I await with anticipation emergence of the JDO from the work of the ODMG.

recommendable book
This is a very interestig and readable book, therefore Irecommend it not only for the gay people but also the bisexual or heterosexual inclined people , including young students. However, I was astounded at the scantiness or absences of the classical Greek & Latin, Sanskrit literature, Arabian et Persian poetries, archaic Chinese and Japanese texts.

An interesting account of the Colin Baker years
I really found this book interesting from start to finish. There are the usual behind the scenes explanations and in particular the debacle between Michael Grade and the programme is explored in detail.

Personally I found the Colin Baker years some of the most interesting times on Doctor Who. Probably because of when I was growing up I suppose! The stories are described in detail and reviewed by the authors. Revelation of the Daleks (my favourite all time story along with Trial of a Timelord) is chosen for an in-depth analysis.

An interview with Nicola Bryant (Peri) is also included relating to her career and how she saw the character.

It's a good read if you're into the background of the programme.
