The main character, Laurel, guides the reader through her world of insecurity, good intensions hampered by the instinct for social survival, and perplexing romantic twinges. Laurel is a deep and creative thinker, who's driving ambition to seek fairness within a highly imperfect and often confusing world spirals her into bouts of internal conflict and self-doubt. All of this coupled with an all too real, and wondrously funny, sibling rivalry between Laurel and her younger sister, Jeanie, makes for a complex and touching story about female adolescence.
There is another dimension to this book, which should attract readers with technical or scientific leanings. The mystery of human intelligence versus that of machine is a secondary, yet richly explored and detailed theme throughout the story.
Last, but certainly not of minor import, is the richness of thought and humor with which L.M. Lynch weaves her characters. While Laurel intensely seeks sense within a seemingly ill-logical world, her little sister Jeanie revels colorfully within her own self-made world of fantasy. It is worth reading "How I Wonder What You Are" for the pleasure alone of sharing even brief moments with Jeanie's touching and often-hilarious attitudes. My 10 year old found some of Jeanie's lines and ditties to be so full of mirth, she continues to quote them months after having finished the book.
I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages.

The author told me about a kitty cat club. The story explained the rules in running a cat sitters club.
In the kitty cat club Karen wants to be the vice -president. She thinks she should because she came up with the idea for the club. Amanda has a cat named Priscilla and is Karens friend. Hannie is Karens best friend and she likes cats but never owned one. Then one day she decided to get a cat and she named it Pat.
Karens, Hannie, and Amanda now have a kitty cat club. They have meetings on Saturday afternoons. They bring their cats to Karen's house and discuss if anyone got a phone call from someone that wanted a cat sitter.
This story was interesting because there were lots of surprising parts in the story. I thought the kitty cat club would get a lot of customers but it didn't work out that way.
This story was well written because it was easy to understand. It was a fun topic and I recommend this book to those who like animals and who enjoy being part of a club. I think other kids would enjoy reading this book because it kept my attention and interest.

I am although happy when I read the ending and I do give it five stars. If we could give one to ten stars, it would be ten.
Julie is concentrating on other things, not her brother. And one including JRA. It's a disease that makes her bones hurt and now she has to take pills.
I will want everyone to read it, especially people who have JRA.
The book was about a girl named Julie who has JRA. She corresponds with her new pen pal, Mrs.Kaplan who helps her through hard times. Despite her JRA, Julie works hard, and in the end, she wins in a way.
This story shows what any kid with JRA can go through and what they can do.

"A long time ago he had recognized as a secret vice the habit of embracing formulas [e.g., 'Arise, take up...'], building arguments, using the Son of Man as another object, situating Jesus in history instead of, even today, living one's life sufficiently within His so as to grasp the meaning of those phrases and trying over and over to understand them. He apologized for being tactless, because it seemed to him that no one had the right to use these words if his own life had not first transformed them into bread and wine, into flesh and blood, and if he couldn't say them in his own personal voice." [61]
As the novel develops the narrator (named Sulivan) becomes more and more obsessed with Strozzi and his powerful influence over people, especially prostitutes. Like a true modern, he professes skepticism about Strozzi's celibacy but can find no evidence to impugn it; rather, the women speak of his friendship and his demand that they exercise their spiritual freedom. "All that he was good for was to rekindle light in eyes that had become dead. Meanwhile he was paying the price." He is regularly roughed up by the pimps whose business he threatens and reported to the chancery by virtuous Christians whose wayward pleasures he subverts.
The first giveaway of Eternity, My Beloved is the epigraph which informs the reader that the title is borrowed from Nietzche: "I have never found the woman by whom I would want to have a child except this woman that I love--for I love you, eternity, my beloved." Official Catholic teaching rarely quotes that particular German philosopher for a defense of celibacy! But the phrase very aptly captures the spirit of the novel's protagonist, Father Jerome Strozzi, aka Tonzi (based on an actual worker-priest named Auguste Rossi) who immerses himself in the demi- monde of Paris' prostitutes, pimps and petty criminals. Once again the narrator plays a major part, this time complaining that Strozzi has hijacked his plan to write a novel about a prostitute named Elizabeth. But Strozzi's combination of anti- bourgeois sentiment, gospel conviction and humility proves irresistible. Freedom, that elusive gift Juan Ramon spent most of his life seeking without realizing it and only finally grasped in an act of self-incarceration, is Tonzi's hallmark. It allows him to plunge into incriminating circumstances daily, to see God's providence in an act of betrayal, a missed train or an eviction, to touch the hearts of street-wise prostitutes simply because his agenda is entirely unhidden.

By the end Sulivan has abandoned all pretense of plot and is simply describing Strozzi or quoting him. The pages read like the spiritual journal which is so far only his third book to appear in English. As an introduction to it, here is a final Sulivanism from Eternity based on Strozzi's life that makes explcit the Paschal character of that priest's mission: "Love wants eternity; it is closer to death than to life: nothing can prevent it from sooner or later being crucified."

Fidelma's world is brought to life in this seventh installment in the mystery series. This is a highly personal adventure for her with her brother's kingdom at stake. As always there is more than meets the eye in this adventure. With all of the sub-stories Tremayne keeps you guessing as to whether it will all come together in the end or if they are separet mysteries unto themselves. With everything thrown at her, Fidelma keeps her cool and saves the day with her wit and incredibly sharp mind.
This was a story well worth waiting for. I eagerly await the next installment!
