If you read only one Nigel Tranter book, this is the one!
ROBERT The BRUCE- Tranter's BraveheartThe film director of "Braveheart" should have done a little more research as he would have discovered that Robert the Bruce would have, according to the legend, been the true Braveheart. When you read the book, witness what it was that Jamie Douglas cried out as he made his fatal charge against all odds, and find out why........here is the Brave Heart.
An excellent factional account of Scottish historyTwo events change all this, the Battle of Stirling Bridge, which unites the common Scots people behind a commoner called William Wallace, and the slaying of the Red Comyn at Berwick, on holy church ground. Robert immediately declares himself King of Scots.
What follows is a marvellous account and insight into a remarkable period of Scottish history. The way Tranter protrays Bruce's internal turmoil, of being excomincated from Mother church, worrying over his diseased body and the consist struggle to free Scotland ; the obsession that Edward Plantagent has with crushing Scotland and the hounding of Bruce, keeps the reader's fullest attention.
This book is a must. Superb, excellent, buy it.

A fine book indeedThe explanations are clear, the advice practical. A good balance is struck between necessary detail and non-technical information. Other books cover the topic in greater detail, but they are all aimed at color geeks rather than working photographers and printers.
Essential reading if digital colors are part of your craftThe authors explain the various digital representations of color and are very honest about the reality of trying to make your colors portable. Their sections on profiles is complete, covering display, input and output profiles. The next segment of the book is how to manage the colors in the operating system, Adobe products, Macromedia Freehand 10, CorelDraw 10, QuarkXPress, and PDF files. It is all brought together in the last chapter, where all the stages in the "journey" of a pixel, from the initial capture to the final output are listed and summarized.
If color is an important component of your work, then reading this book is an absolute necessity. I strongly recommend it for web designers as well as graphics artists. It has been placed on my shelf of critical reference books.
The definitive book on color managementColor management always seemed like an arcane science. While Colorsync is in its 4th iteration, we have yet to see some sort of a definitive manual from Apple.
Real World Color Management puts all these to rest. It's not a color book for color scientists. This is a book for people who are interested in how color interacts between what they see through their digital cameras, what they on their screens, what comes out of their printers.
There are sections that cover profiling devices, the software and hardware used to profile, how color management is implemented in the Macintosh and in Windows systems, and in the most popular graphics applications (Adobe, Macromedia, Corel). There has been a gaping silence from Apple, from Microsoft, from Epson (and other printer manufacturers) on how to use color management, on how to get good color from input device to output device. This book addresses that.
This book answers most of the questions I had on color management. Color management is no longer a mysterious black box in which you see the input and output but in which you have practically no idea what happens in between.
This is the definitive book on color management.

Red bird down
A View From Inside The Flight Helmet
Aero-Scout Bravery Beyond DescriptionThis is a true-to-life depiction of how light observation helicopter pilots sought out the enemy so that other units could engage them. To do this took unheard of courage and Red Bird Down does them a grand tribute and truth. This book is a must read for anyone to understand airmobile operations.

Informative but not objective?... it's an InfomercialFirst, there are innumerable references to products which provide profit for the "Medical Editor", Dr. Murray Grossan. I'm a user of one of his products, and I'd endorse it too - but not under the guise of an medical self-help book.
The second item that makes me wonder about the expertise of the author ("A long time sinus sufferer"). Opposite the title page are some of the other titles from the author - "The Super Aspirin Cure for Arthritis". "Super Calcium Counter...". "The Osteoporosis Cure". "The Fibromyagia Handbook". Can "The Tao of Ephedra" be far away?
The book is worth a read. But if you're deciding between it and other well-rated volumes - I'd look elsewhere.
I can breathe thanks to this book. The Sinus Cure
Very credible. Well written. VERY HELPFUL with high pollen.

A delightful nostalgia tripThough much of the writing is strongly tongue-in-cheek, it's not all cynical... which is quite refreshing. Not everything about the '70's and '80's was horrible; indeed, in an age of terrorism and war, roller disco doesn't seem so bad.
This book was originally published in 1997. If a newer edition is planned, adding some context would be especially helpful, now that the entire decade of the '90's has passed. For it's the seemingly frivolous things that ultimately shape our lives in unexpected ways.
America's influence on pop culture brilliantly captured
Hilarious and somewhat scary trip down memory lane. This is an encyclopaedic recounting of pop-culture memories of many authors, and was originally published in 3 consecutive issues of Darby's magazine "Ben is Dead". One of the unfortunate side-effects of the translation from magazine to book has been the loss of a bit of material. Most/all of the supplementary articles and sidebars have been lost; a lot of pictures have been dropped (possibly from copyright or trademark infringement?); individual entries have been changed, either to remove possibly inflammatory material, or for some judicious editing. Some entries are gone all-together.
But, after 5+ years, my copies of BiD are brown and curling from acidic decay, water damage, constant re-reading. This book is a more durable, more easily transportable, more easily read and shared compendium of what is undoubtedly the best part of the original 3 issues.
For most entries, there are comments from multiple authors- if you don't like what someone wrote about your favorite subject, there's someone else right after them that wrote exactly what you wish you could say. You'll have old dusty memories jarred- both pleasant and unpleasant. You'll cringe in agony when you realize just how stupid we looked drawing a "Z" in the dirt to run faster when wearing Zips shoes. You'll recall that night you saw Pink Lady & Jeff on TV and realized adults didn't know what they were doing, either. You'll also get a lot of info on regional fads (typically southern California) that may not mean much in the rest of the country, but makes for interesting reading.
The best part about the book is the editorial decision to not just concentrate on the happy/good parts of our collective past. A lot of dirt is listed, too, which will make some people uncomfortable, but it makes the book probably the most honest of the pop-culture books that reference the 70s. Instead of sanitizing and making palatable what was, in all honesty, an incredibly vapid and tasteless era, Retro Hell is more of a catharsis for everyone who grew up in that time. The book's not just a fun read, but it'll probably make you a better person, too.

Easy to read, clear and informativeI truly believe this book will be remembered as a guide book that helped raise the consciousness of many, many people.
An awakening you don't fall back asleep fromI think this is the one book that truly directs you to realize and access the information that you need to remember who you are and why you are here. It is complete and not difficult to read and understand no matter what level of consciousness you are. I personally have already and continue to use the centering techniques, that are taught in the book, to create abundance in many aspects of my life. This book will absolutely teach you to recognize messages that we so often take for granted and then later realize we should have acted on or thought about when we got them. I recommend this book to anyone also who feels they are happy with their life but they can't quite pinpoint whats missing! They will find it for sure.
A truly enlightening book
