A must have for every woman!
This book reads like poetry. It is deeply lyrical and has a flow to it like a dreamy, winding stream of music. It draws you in then goes inside of you, affecting your heart and ultimately your soul. There are moments of tears, moments of smiles and moments when you will say, "Ah, I understand that." You simply can't read this book and leave without being changed by it.

A touchstone for women on a journey
My process for ingesting this book was much like a holiday with the family: I gourged myself on everything I could get to, then grazed the rest of the day until I had consumed too much at once. I started out being frustrated by Ms. Duerk's writing style; but as I settled in, I became engulfed by the rhythm of the words, leading me to their wisdom. I realized that the writing style was necessary to slow me down enough to become immersed. "Circle of Stones" is the touchstone I've needed to start standing on my own in my own journey. I'm making a gift of this to several of my women friends.

Moves you in a direction you didn't think existed.
With a combination of dreams and real life experiences, the author takes you down a path that many of us have walked before but never could give a name to. I have read this book many times, and many times, I am still moved by an empathy to the imagery given that can only come from the feminine. To find someone else give a name and a place to the 'void', and in turn, show you the way out exists without a 12-step program and a help-group, is an amazing feeling. Though the book is geared for a woman's group, it is not necessary in the least to have one to enjoy it 100%.

From a teacher's perspective
This book is truly one of my most treasured books! I use this book with my first grade students each year at Christmas time. It gives the kids a whole new meaning of what the spirit of the holidays is really about. It's not what you get from someone, but how you feel when you have done something special for someone else! We write what we are thankful for instead of letters to Santa. It's a must have to anyone's collection!

Fan of this book, if not country music
I do *not* like country music, so was surprised to find this book beautifully poignant and touching. Most of the children I know actually have too much stuff --clothes, toys, etc. -- so I think it is important for them to hear and read this story. Children from any background -- affluent or poor -- need to know that it isn't what they own that is important, but how they feel about themselves inside, and how much they are loved. This book shows a family that is strong, loving, and good, despite the hardships of poverty. The illustrations are wonderful and eye-catching for children. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Coat of Many Colors is an A+
This story based on Dolly's famous song, Coat of Many Colors, brings back great memories of the times I've spent in the mountains, and memories of my own mother. I sing the story to my son and he just loves it. Thanks Dolly, for the heart tugging song and book.

God Send
I first found this book as part of a Psychology research project.
The research that founded this book has influenced the way that government systems deal with divorcing families across America. It is one of the best resources I can think of for families that are going through divorce. Though the title states a decade after divorce the follow up has gone well beyond this. I have been divorced for 15 years - today I am purchasing a copy for my sister who is getting divorced after 18 years of marraige - This is one of those books that I have loned out and lost and loned out and lost repeatedly - they keep getting passed forward. Well worth the little investment of money and time.

Second Chances
It wasn't until recently (I'm almost 40) that I began to look at my parent's divorce as a source of some of my behaviors. I'm very functional, even successful, but sometimes wonder if I haven't been undercut by the blow of losing "home". This is an interesting read, and worth exploring by those who share my suspicion about their own lives. Knowledge is power. Good luck.

A MUST read for all parents considering divorce
I found this book in a second hand shop during the time that my husband and I were considering seperating after an 18 year marriage. I found the book amazenly insightful. I saw the truth in what really happens to children after a divorce and not what the public portrays and "something they will get over." This book made me cry on nearly ever page. I was able to identify with many things, myself as a child of divorce. I did go ahead and get a divorce but this book absolutely changed my life and my actions. My ex husband read the book and we attended classes on how to behave and raise children in THEIR best interests. It has been three years now and even through there have been struggles, I feel I have done the best that a parent can in this situation. My exhusband and I are very amicable and cordial to each other. His child support is never a day late. He calls several times a week because we live in another state. He flies to see the children on spring break and they spend Christmas vacation and summers with him. We never bicker or fight or ever use the children. This book helped us see how parents can fall into patterns of destruction. We are both parents of our two children, and we feel that even though we are divorced we still need to co-parent. We discuss their future and make plans together for them. We owe this to our children. Our children have the right to two loving parents. Because of this book, we have been able to see better ways to raise our children with as little trauma as possible and give them a brighter future. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any couple considering divorce. You OWE it to your children.

Small Miracles of Love and Friendship...FABULOUS!
This book warmed my heart; made me cry in a public place; made me cry when I tried to re-tell the stories. Basically, this collection of true stories released the human spirit within me, and within all of those I forced to listen to me. I would recommend this book to anyone who is unafraid to feel and willing to open up to love. As my title says: FABULOUS!

Keep writing those books, ladies!

Cathy Fitzgerald

I adore the entire series of Small Miracles
I love the Small Miracles Books. I keep buying and rebuying this book because I am constantly giving my copy away as a gift and therefore need to replace it. This book is especially meaningful to me because I was reading it at a time that I was giving up on miracles and optimism. However, this book has been uplifting. I know can realize that small miracles exsist in everyday life and there is always a reason to keepsmiling. I recommend this series to everyone. I have been inspired by Yitta Halberstam and Judith Leventhal. There work seeps out inspiration and devotion to believe. Each time I read a story a warm feeling of love engulfs me. I know believe in small miracles again. I feel as if this line of books took me from being in a negative slump to being optimistic again. I highly recemmend this book:) The personal message I have recieved is "Keepsmiling and Love Life!"

Heartwarming stories that will warm the coldest of hearts!
The stories that Yitta Halberstam and Judith Leventhal have brought together are sure to touch your heart. Small Miracles of Love and Friendship is one of those books you want to curl up with in front of a fireplace, and lose yourself in its pages for a few hours. It celebrates the bonds between people of different faiths, colors and creeds, and the amazing coincidences that happen to them because of their respect for other people. I highly recommend it!

Testing Miss Malarkey

Pokes fun at the commotion surrounding standardized testing
The new school year brings standardized testing to Miss Malarkey's classroom as she, her students, and even the parents are preparing for The Instructional Performance Through Understanding Test. The school is in an uproar with the gym instructor teaching stress-reducing yoga instead of sports, parents giving pop quizzes on bedtime stories at night, the cafeteria serving "brain food" for lunch -- the kids are beginning to think that maybe the test is more important than they suspect! Aptly illustrated by Kevin O'Malley, Testing Miss Malarkey is an hilarious and original picturebook story by Judy Finchler that pokes fun at the commotion surrounding standardized testing, a fixed feature of today's school systems and of increasing importance for teachers and parents as well as for the kids!

Give it to an educator!
Okay, this book is not for kids, it's for teachers, principals, school board members, and others involved in that dreaded springtime ritual we like to call "Standardized Testing" (or as Judy Finchler calls it, the "IPTU Test"). The humor is there, it's just aimed at adults. Kids young enough to enjoy picture book won't get the scarcasm about the stress teachers and administrators go through each year but adults will howl with laughter!

As a teacher, I can honestly say NOTHING in this book is exaggerated...it's all true. The author must be or know a teacher, to understand how agonizing the standardized testing procedure is, and what a meaningless mystery it is to kids. Continuing in the same vein as Miss Malarkey Doesn't Live in Room 10, with a child's-eye-view of teachers, this one also has minimal text and outstanding illustrations. Forget the kids; give this book to a teacher-to-be, or put it in the teacher's lounge during testing week. It will be a sure hit and give them something to chuckle about before they go back to the classroom to say, "Make sure you bubble in the entire circle; make no other marks on the page, do not fold, spindle, or mutilate your answer sheet....."

Every legislator should read this book!
Any teacher who has taught even a year recently well understands the horrors of testing, and days when there are more teachers than students in the nurse's office.

Testing Miss Malarkey deals with the testmania which is being inflicted on our children in a humorous, yet unfortunately accurate way. Schools may not be teaching how to color in circles in art class-but there are many which have eliminated art to make room for test prep.

I would also suggest Susan Ohanian's
"What happened to recess and why are our children struggling in kindergarten"-the adult side of the story, but the same, sad tale.

Account of personal spiritual growth
"The Voice of the Soul" is an autobiographical account of the journey of the author, Judith Pennington, from a hostile attitude toward religion to one of acceptance and belief in God. The first part of the book goes through her history and how she developed such an antagonistic attitude toward church and religion. The rest of the book allows the reader to follow her through her growth process. Most of her growth process seems to be based on "writings" where she sits down and just starts to write things that come from deep down in her soul where one's higher self resides.

She stresses that this was her path that she took and that it may be very different for others as we all have our own path to follow. The final portion of the book is a collection of her "writings" organized in the natural order of the growth experience, from "The Call", to "The Path", to "Self-Knowledge", to "The Struggle", to "The Soul's Mountaintop".

Strongly New Age in format, many traditional Christians and other fundamentalists will have a lot of problems with many of the concepts in the book. Others that embrace the possibilities of New Age thought will find it a delightful and inspiring book.

Will Lead You to Your Own Truth
Judith Pennington's "The Voice of the Soul" is a masterful recounting of one person's spiritual awakening and evolution. Like Walsch in "Conversations with God," Pennington has tapped into the higher power with monumental grace and intelligence. She has transcribed and made understandable the voice of the soul in a lyrical, joyfully seductive language that is instantly recognizable to anyone who genuinely seeks understanding of what truly lies within each of us. Like Fritz Capra in "The Tao of Physics," but in a different context, Pennington provides compelling evidence that the presumably ephemeral "soul" may well be credibly explained through the language of modern physics. But unlike anything else you've ever read, this book can help lead you to your own truth. And that is the highest and best purpose to which any work can aspire."

A new approach
In The Voice of the Soul, Judith Pennington invites the reader to travel with her through her struggles and challenges as she awakens to her spiritual self. Her language is so clear and vivid the reader is made to feel a partner with her on her ardurous journey to awareness.

Don't be surprised if, no matter your religious or spiritual background, the meditative writings reinforce what you know, affirm what you believe, validate what you suspect and answer many of your questions about the nature of the Divine.

The format of the book is truly unique, unlike any book to the left of it or right of it on the bookstore shelf.

Ideal Book
The majority of the pages in this 350-page book are loaded with color photos and information on the Ideal dolls manufactured from 1907 up through the 1980s. Most dolls are pictured in their original outfits and some photos are packages of the original outfits. Also included are photos of ads for specific dolls. The book starts with a short history of the Ideal Toy Co., while the back of the book gives more information on issue dates, characteristics, and current prices.

This book is a must have for those doll collectors that want to restore a doll to original condition.

A must have for doll collectors and dealers
Fabulous color pictures of all the dolls in the book- tons of dolls you will recognize and some you won't. Also features the manufacture marks you will find on dolls to identify them. Most of the dolls are shown in original outfits- some with original packaging and a small percentage are shown redressed. Complete with price guide.

Excellent Ideal on Dolls
Enjoyed this book and also the prompt manner in which it was delivered to me by userbro128. It was a used book and let me tell you it did not look used at all. Highly recommend the seller and the book to any one intrested.

Intricacies of Screenwriting Revealed
The first time I looked at a screenplay script format, I thought I'd never be able to understand what went where and why. After a few days with "The Complete Guide to Standard Script Formats," I felt like an expert. It should be understood that this book is an excellent resource for understanding the format component of writing a screenplay. It does not address the art writing or the literary aspects of how to construct a story suitable for making into a film. If you've already got the story down and learning the proper format for your first screenplay is your task at hand, this is the book for you.

Good advice, but some parts not absolute.
After downloading a few scripts from drew's scriptoroama, Basic Instinct, Fargo, Blade Runeer (the original Hampton Fancher version ), etc., I thought it would be a good idea to get familiar with what is recommended practice., since scripts tend to look pretty similar but with inconsistencies in some of the details.

Cole and Haag give plenty of clear advice, coupled with why the block elements and the inner details of a script are formatted and timed as they are. The section dealing with the setting up of a word processor to make the work easier was somewhat garbled, but the part for typewriter set up looked to be okay.

This is a book well worth having, so that you can format and structure your script to be as effective as possible, and to take care of the parts that script formatting applications such as Final Draft 6.0 or Screenwriter 2000 don't attend to. A minor example would be capitalising text to highlight sounds in a direction section.

The title says it all!
This is the most valuable book anyone interested in writing a screenplay can own. It covers the history and reason behind the screenplay format better than any other book I've read on the subject. Although the format outline is primarily typewriter based, and the word processor settings actually differ slightly from the typewriter settings, anyone who really knows how to use their word processor will be able to create a template based on the format settings outlined in this book. There are even templates already available for download from the internet which have been designed based on the outline provided in this book, including one which I created. This book details virtually everything you'll ever need to know about writing either a reading or production script in the proper format, however, since this book is designed to teach script format, and not how to write, you'll have to look elsewhere for information on how to craft a good story. If you're serious about writing a screenplay in the accepted Hollywood format, then I highly recommend that you buy this book.

Hold onto your hat & your consciousness!
This is a science fiction Apocalypse story written through both the panoramic & kaleidoscopic prisms of New Age Thought, & the soft pen of a woman's perspective.

First-time author, Judith Horky has written her story at a gallop: wives & husbands, grandmothers & daughters-in-law; expectant moms & technicians; home bodies & career people all across America, connected by family ties, cell phones, the desire to shift their consciousness & heroic drives in various vehicles from "sea to shining sea," as the Earth, its atmosphere & every living thing therein begins to crack & change.

Fascinating, even if her list of survivalist caches had me laughing!

Earthshift
The storyline is so original and fast moving it captured my emotions and mind right away. I felt I was "right there" involved in the whole adventure.
The main character Julie demonstrates that when you listen to your intuition you are guided through any life situation with safety. That is a message we all need to live by in today's insecure world.
This text teaches us how love makes all of life's challenges bearable and that we are never alone in any trial.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

What it Feels Like to Live through the End of the World
EARTHSHIFT begins with some very strange events shaking people up emotionally and physically around the world. As the earth's fundamental vibration increases from eight to thirteen Hertz and disruptions of electromagnetic transmissions begin, many people panic and are overwhelmed with fear. Only those who can remain calm in the face of widespread hysteria are destined to make a smooth transition to a new idyllic world in which amazing psychic and spiritual capabilities such as teleportation and telepathy are commonplace.

Judith Horky's fast-paced novel follows members of the Armstrong family as each individual comes to terms with the challenges presented to them in the transition from a world felt in three dimensions to one of fifth dimension sensibilities. Not only do people feel different when they attune their awareness to a different set of emotions (such as becoming able to commune telepathically with loved ones, dead family members, and aliens when they feel love and compassion instead of fear and outrage); they also experience a completely different world in physical form. Those who are controlled by their fears witness pillaging and looting all around, missing out on the brighter colors and fresher air in the dawning of the new world.

I love the way EARTHSHIFT takes the well-known concept of a transition between worlds, such as the classic story of the great flood which appears in many cultures around the world, and answers many questions about what such a transition might feel like. What is the world like when some people see only fear, destruction, and terror all around.... while others see a paradise? How will the transition begin, and how will it end? Will it be possible to walk between worlds?

While EARTHSHIFT is based upon a Christian point of view and includes quotes from the Bible at the beginning of some chapters, all readers will be able to relate to the challenges faced by the Armstrong family. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in exploring the possibilities of ascension to a higher level of awareness, or what it might feel like to live through the end times.
