lilian from Australia
This book is about the happiest livliest deformed person possible
Following his life, love and his attachment to sailing and nature was exhillerating.
The explanations of his atheism made me clap my hands and cry YES YES this writer knows the truth about god.
Enlightening meaningful and often serious poetry abounds
Inovations abound to make Tim's handicap easy
To put it as Tim would, "This book has every bloody thing."
I will never forget the eagle taking the fish or swimming on the Great Barrier Reef. I was really there too holding my breath.
Write more Bernie Katchor whoever you are. Your words and humour have got me.

Australian ireverent humor. Exciting and sensetive story
This Australian places the world of an intelligent disabled person in front of us in a sensetive but humerous way.
It excited me as it passed through the man's life.
The sailing scenes and obvious care of nature by the author and blend inwell with the excitement of Tim's life.
What a funeral Gran had could not stop laughing.
What a dramatic end.
Could not put ths book down excellent read and a joyous tale.

Throughly comprehensive.
The 2002 F1 annual will be familiar to you if you already have read or leafed through the 2001 annual as the lay out and format is the same as the previous edition. It also is just as comprehensive with seperate chapters for the drivers, teams and races.

The drivers each get a least two pages, summarising their season, results and perceived failures. The team summary, covering both drivers, team personnel and commercial activities also includes race by race summaries including practice and qualifying, so the reader obtains a much more complete overview of the race weekend for any particular team, and this is one area where the F1 Annual is clearly superior to the Hazelton Autocourse series.

In a double dose of information since you get a team summary of each race in the teams chapter, there is also a chapter relating to the overall picture of each race of the season, including what I think are quite nice circuit graphics. Also covered in this annual is race by race technical profiles of changes to the cars at each race, including drawings by Giorgio Piola, another clear advantage over Autocourse. The last chapter is a results section, giving the race results for every Grand Prix since 1950. Also included, unusually I think for an annual, is an index.

On the downside, the photography at times is not the best. I'm not sure, but I think some of the images are screen captures from the Digital TV feed. The picture quality, or lack of it, is further amplified by the paper itself, which is quite lightweight. Having said that, if the paper was of a heavier bond, the book would weigh more than its already considerable weight! While the results from 1950 onwards is nice to have, I wonder whether it is really necessary. If the producers of F1 Annual choose to keep with the Statistics section, then I would think having some further stats relating to drivers and teams, most GPs, most wins & poles etc... would add to the merit of this section. I have also noticed a number of typo errors, which for the amount of money invested into this book is unacceptable, but this is also something the producers of Autocourse are guilty of.

Overall, despite the deficiencies in the book, this is a throughly comprehensive review of the 2002 season, and is probably much more laden with the info that the F1 "anoraks" like myself like to see than Autocourse is likely to give.

Excellent Book!!!
This book is a very detailed overview of the 2002 Formula 1 season. Im not sure why it says 2002-2003 on the cover because it is only about the 2002 season. This book is well worth the price it is huge and covers the season, the drivers, the teams and the events of the 2002 season in full detail with 100's of color pictures. A must own for any formula 1 fan.

Opens up new dimensions of our unique paths.
A fine guide either for those beginning the meditation process or for those who have pursued that path for many years. Siegel's words and Kolbialka's music open the doors to peace, healing and insight. Though Siegel's focus is on those facing a physical challenge, the tape is appropriate for any person facing the daily struggles and joys of life.

A must for those facing serious illnesses in the family
A beginners guide to meditations, without any technical stuff.

Following these meditations really helps to develop and maintain inner peace while facing extremely difficult times.

It is great for both the patient and the family.

The best word games I've ever seen!
You don't need to have a sophisticated vocabulary to play these games. It's wonderful with children. We play in the car, at the dinner table, as a homework break. This book goes on vacation with us. I highly recommend it!

A wonderful resource for English Teachers & other verbivores
This book is full of great ways to have fun with the English language. I have used it during my teaching practicum to teach my students (grade 8 & 12) basic poetic terms. The games are great fun and a wonderful way to start class everyday! The kids keep asking for more & I don't think there's anything better than that. Lederer spans the language from sound devices, to metaphors, to names, to language logic. It's one book I wouldn't want to teach without!

A soul uplifting that gives hope , things we really knew.
Comming from your ear phones is an irrestible seduction into the present that makes your being quivver with hope.

The third in a series---own them all
The third in a series from a PBS show of the same name. (see the reviews on the other two tapes in this series)This is so well done that you can listen to it over and over and always come away with something new and stimulating each and every time. With out going into a detailed explanation of the series this is simply a superb compilation of some of the thoughts and ideas as expressed by some of our era's best author's, lecturer's and thinkers. It is so well organized and presented that all three tapes flow one into the other. As with many series where the latter in the series are not as strong as the first, this is not the case here. All three are equally as strong without repeating and without pandering to the listener. It is a must own series for those who enjoy being stimulated to THINK! And for those who don't you might be surprised--you might still come away with an experience that you will enjoy. Own all three.

Timeless Tales review
By TT reviewer Nancy Arant Williams

1932

Even as a youth, Edward Rowe Snow grabbed hold of life with both hands. After graduating from Harvard, he throws himself into a career as a history teacher, taking every opportunity to coax history to life for his students and acquaintances on Boston's richly historical coast. At every opportunity, he uses costume and prop to enhance his wonderful storytelling gift.

When he takes a summer job as a tour guide to local historic spots, he keeps tourists spellbound with his tales. Routinely, while telling a ghost story about The Lady in Black, he stands by a black casket. As he spins the yarn, the casket, as he ignores it, slowly creaks open, to the horror of onlookers, and a black clad woman rises--the ghost herself! An experience not soon forgotten!

Over time, he is intrigued by the history of the local lighthouses, and becomes acquainted with the lighthouse keepers and their families. He writes and has published their amazing stories. And it's clear to him, from the beginning, their dedication to keeping the lights burning also keeps them isolated, especially over long, frigid winters.

It isn't by chance that he meets a student, Bill Wincapaw, whose father, Captain Wincapaw gives Ed the chance of a lifetime, the chance to make history himself.

The captain invites Ed to ride along while they drop Christmas packages from a plane--to the excited lighthouse keepers and their families below.

From the first trip, Ed is hooked, returning year after year. When, after a few years, the student and his father move away, they bequeath to Ed the revered position of Flying Santa. But it's a [costly] proposition.

Ill-equipped to learn to fly, he and his wife, Anna Myrle, commit themselves to putting aside part of his small teaching salary each year to fund the gift purchases, special packaging, and the plane rental. No new car or nicer house for them. And each year, the tradition grows more precious to those Ed and Anna Myrle, dressed as Santa and Mrs. Claus, bless with their inexpensive, yet priceless gifts. They drop packages filled with treasures--balloons, books, pencils, paper, magazines, candy, coffee and small toys, things the grateful families can ill afford.

As one of Ed's students, Tommy Gibbons has been a problem from the beginning. Always failing in school, and in trouble due to his violent temper, Tommy has made it clear he has no use for Ed's love of history, nor later, his flying Santa routine.

When Tommy, now a dangerous adult bully, confronts Ed, threatening his family, Santa begins to doubt the value of his commitment.

Ironically, Tommy is forced, as a punishment, to spend a year serving as lighthouse keeper on a tiny, lonely island off Boston's coast. How will he respond to Santa now?

Though Ed, Anna Myrle and the lighthouse keepers are gone now, the legacy of The Flying Santa lives on to this day, bringing hope when it's needed most.

As a lover of history, this reviewer found this story both endearing and memorable. Bernie Schallehn and John Galluzzo bring the charm of the past to vivid life, making you fall in love with their vibrant characters, people who actually lived and made their indelible mark on history. For those of us who fondly recall the past as a time when loving our neighbors was the 'in' thing to do, this tale will warm your heart.

A wonderful story of one small endeavor to change the world, through good times and lean, this one is truly unforgettable.

Hats off to Schallehn and Galluzzo for a remarkable and memorable story--a real keeper to curl up with on a cold winter night.

Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus
A very delightful and heartwarming book.

There are many examples in life of how certain people are able to capture the true essence of giving to others. Edward Snow was one of them.

The happiness and joy that Edward brought to the lighthouse keepers and their familes was priceless.

Aim High.....
Stephen Krensky details "the amazing life and times of Annie Oakley" in this engaging and creative picture book biography. From her hard and impoverished childhood in Ohio, to her young adult years as a sharpshooter and entertainer in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, the story of her life is fascinating and full of drama. Annie was resourceful and tough as nails. She knew what she wanted, and made it happen through hard work and determination. Mr Krensky's interesting and informative text, draws on Annie Oakley's own autobiographical writings, and is enhanced by Bernie Fuchs' marvelously expressive and evocative oil paintings done in dark and subdued earth tones. Together word and art paint a portrait of a remarkable woman who never let anyone or anything get her down for long. With an afterword to fill in the gaps and complete the story of Annie Oakley's amazing life, Shooting For The Moon is perfect for youngsters 5-9, and is definitely an introductory biography that shouldn't be missed. As Annie always told everyone..."Aim at a high mark and you will hit it. No, not the first time, nor the second, and maybe not the third. But keep on aiming and keep on shooting. Finally you'll hit the bull's-eye of success, for only practice will make you perfect."

Wonderful woman, great book -- for kids
The book fulfilled my expectations. I wanted an easy-to-read and attractive book for one of my granddaughters. I got it. She loved it too, but I'm not sure about her mom (my daughter).

Get one, read it, and then pass it on to a child.

Shrinking of America: Myths of Psychological Change

A critical look at therapy and self transformation
In this book Zilbergeld takes a look at the places therapy and self transformation hold in our culture. He doesn't say that therapy is worthless (and in fact I seem to remember that he is a therapist himself with a significant reputation), but he does make a powerful case for his opinions that therapy and psychoanalysis are relentlessly overprescribed and oversold, both by practitioners and, surprisingly, by clients as well. He also marshals some impressive arguments in favor of his theory that practitioners and clients have a strong tendency to overestimate personal transformation attributed to therapy.

This is not a mindless attack on the crystal-worshiping therapy-and-self-actualization set. This is a very intelligent examination of how the various therapy disciplines have come to occupy the position that they do, and how their limitations have generally not been critically exposed before the public.

I consider this to be a very significant book, and I'm very disappointed to see that my opinion is apparently not very widely shared, given that the book is out of print.

A must-buy for those who doubt the efficacy of psychiatry.
This is a readable yet well referenced critique of modern psychiatry. The author's premise is that there is absolutely not one shred of scientific evidence to prove that psychiatry works. The alleged "cures" or helps are often natural processes at work -- especially in cyclic disorders -- or helps which could equally well be provided by friends, ministers, etc.

A MUST have for the Tolkien enthusiast. Totally concur with the first reviewer. Serious fans must get this book. Hard to find book since it is out of print.

Kinda Hard, But Good
A good book for the die-hard fan, lists on Gollum and everyone, like Elves, too. Definatelt worth the price, though, and a nice gem to the collection. (Yes! I'm the first reviewer!) Anyways, yes, it is a very good- yet old- book. But it's not dated or anything like that.

Well, what're ya waiting for? GO AND BUY IT!

Healthy or not this is a must read!!!!
This is one of the best books I've ever read. I have fibromyalgia and I've really been having a hard time coming to terms with what that means to me. This book put my whole life into perspective. This is a must read for anyone with health problems as well as anyone who wants to live a more fulfilling life.

Inspirational, powerful, thought-provoking and, exceptional.
Unfortunately I've had reason to buy several copies of thisbook because I've had several friends who needed it. Seven yearsafter it helped me understand the process of dealing with my own life-threatening illness it remains one of only two books I keep on my nightstand for easy, regular reference. The words of this book teach you to accept what is happening to your body while simultaneously learning how to fight effectively against the disease and, ultimately, to value the life you lead, whatever its duration. Inspirational, powerful, thought-provoking and, exceptional!
