Just a little too simple.
The idea that possitive thoughts and words can improve our health is a great premise, however this book goes too far in the examples of every type of ill stemming from what you say. The book is repetative and rather far fetched in the examples of the authors multiple ills. One chapter would have been enough. A group of us were reading this book together and we voted to drop the book after chapter 4. The vote was 12 to 0!

She lives it not just writes it!
I have read Ms. Levine's book - in first and second editions. I was honored to have Barb share her first edition with me while it was still in it's rough state. If you are looking for a book by an author who tries her darndest to practice what she preaches/writes - then this book is for you.

Journey to awareness
There is much more to this book than meets the eye. It is an important guidebook for life. If we look back over our life we will see that many problems were caused by misplaced words. Words expressed at the wrong time in the wrong way. If we look honestly it becomes apparent that through our expression, we help chart our course in life. We KNOW the words we speak are important. However, Barbara Levine gives us graphic examples of just how important they really are. How they affect our physical, mental and spiritual health. This book is more than just a study, it is a practical workbook toward greater awareness. If we apply the techniques in this book we will become more conscious of everything we say, and everything we do. We will become people who speak and act from a position of strength, rather than ones who react hastily from a position of weakness. It is a guidebook towards self-mastery, and therefore an important book for everyone's bookshelf.

Not so bad
I bought this book because i ever believe in the soul. But i never imagine the kind of things that Claire Sylvia said's. In my opinion is a good book, with incredible moments, things that make you think about the death and the life. A good work by William Novak, who help people like Nancy Reagan, and Magic Johnson to make their biographies before. The history of woman, who needs a new heart. the history of a woman, who star a new life.

Personal experience
I've known Claire Silva for many years. I knew her well before her body started to fail. This book is her reality. It unfolded just as she states. If her story seems amazing, consider how it must have felt to her, miraculous, beyond belief. She is ever so rapidly dying, then a chance to receive a heart and lung, (the first in New England, "experimental surgery") suddenly, out-of-the-blue. Friends rush her to Yale, New Haven, CT. she receieves a new life. New heart, new lung, more than that. New cells, old memories. The dreams begin. She has incorporated new celllular tissue, new DNA residue and the doctors have warned her that the tissue could be rejected. Incredibly, the memories of a dead young man begin to flood her dreams, her senses. I met Claire after the surgery. We spent quite a bit of time together. A change of person and heart had taken place. Read this book and trust that there are some things that science and medicine may never unravel. Draw from your own knowledge, intuition and experience. Your reality is within you. Claire chose to share this experience. Her experience is something that will cause you to think about how you live your own life. It will cause you to realize how special and extra-ordinary you are as a result of your own unique genetic, societal, physical and psychological composition. It may cause you to dream and wonder and question the courage you fail to exhibit to the world for fear of being ridiculed. Finally, this is a book about a woman with the courage and the desire to live and the willpower and curiosity to explore and investigate her changed life and her changed reality. 143

Highly Recommended
Claire Sylvia's Change of Heart is a great book because it makes you think about things you never thought would possibly happen. It's like "The Others" (the Other Side) or "The X-files" but in real - but not in a way that you don't believe it. I really believe that she feel that he - the teenaged boy who died in a motorcycle accident -is apart of her. Read this special book if you want a new view of your life!

Where Did I Go Right? : You're No One In Hollywood Unless Someone Wants You Dead

Best Hollywood read since "The Kid Stays In The Picture"
For those of us hooked on "The E True Hollywood Story," "VH1's Behind The Music" and other outlets for real life Hollywood dish, Bernie Brillstein's book is a wonderful treat. This is a candid, honest look at a half-century long career in the trenches. Bernie Brillstein nurtured the careers of Lorne Michaels,Jim Henson, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, and many more icons. Besides the wonderful stories (ok, dish) about his clients, Brillstein shares behind the scenes anecdotes from the deal making trenches. Great insights for any future Hollywood agents/managers. But even if you don't work in this town, you will love Bernie's story and possibly pick up some useful life lessons. An appealing, infinitely readable Hollywood read, and if you like this, check out books by Bob Evans and Ken Kragen!

Where Did I Go Right? : A Great Read by Bernie Brillstein
"Here's the truth about the art of the deal: it all comes down to who's your client and how desperately the other guy wants him. It's about a moment in time, and nothing more." In this telling and moving biography, Bernie Brillstein takes the reader inside some of the most interesting moments in show business. And from his background and experience, at William Morris, as a Manager, at Lorimar, and at Brillstein-Grey, Bernie really lets the reader in on the art of the deal. And this book is a great deal! In reviewing this book I refer to Bernie by his first name, since he writes like he's writing to a friend, and by the end of the book I felt like that friend. Bernie writes in an honest and sincere manner, which is unusual for books written by and about show biz. Bernie's client list included many of my favorites, including Lorne Michaels, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd, Jim Henson, Gilda Radner, Norm Crosby, Richard Dryfuss, and Chris Farley. Bernie writes with insight about Saturday Night Live, Hee-Haw, NewsRadio, the Muppets, and ALF, amoung others. And through it all, Bernie shows a level of ethics and character to which we should all aspire in our work lives. This is a book that I could not put down, and my only disappointment was that it is only 373 pages. This is a great read, and its value greatly exceeds the price of admission. I would read anything else Bernie Brillstein writes, even if written on the back of cereal box. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about how show business really works. Although Five Stars is the highest rating Amazon gives, this book really desearves Ten Stars!

Unexpectedly Touching
I found myself unexpectedly touched by this autobiography. Having read it, I consider Bernie Brillstein a friend. With no self-praise, Brillstein shows himself to be a man of decency, of compassion, of empathy. He began in his profession as an agent at William Morris, dreaming of representing mid-Century comics such as Jackie Gleason and Jackie Gale. When he left William Morris, he became a personal manager, starting the careers of dozens of entertainers who have become household names. The stories Bernie has to tell! He survived--there's no other word--until the end of the century, representing Jim Henson, Lorne Michaels, Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Ackroyd and, as the saying goes, a cast of thousands along the way. He created HEE HAW and greenlighted THE SOPRANOS, headed a movie studio for a short time, got fired, picked himself up and started again. His very life has been the personification of the entertainment business; there are few who exceeded his success. And he is the one having the last laugh: He's still here! But along with the chronological report of his professional experience, what he was thinking, how he pulled it off, there is this man, this basically sweet and decent man, and that's what shines through his book. I enjoyed reading about Bernie's fascinating life.

COUPLE OF REGULAR GUYS -- Yeah Right!
The most horrific thing about this book is its title. My assumption in reading the reviews for this book (and reading its title) was that it would tell how some regular guys built the Home Depot from scratch, starting with an idea and building it into an empire.

Instead what you get is the CEO and CFO of another home improvement company starting Home Depot along with an investment banking friend that lands them in front of a potential investor that happens to be a billionaire (Ross Perot). Somehow they don't seem like just regular guys anymore.

The information in the book is okay, but it was really hard for me to get past this outrageous title that is nothing more than a lie. There are better business books out there on how to start a successful company from scratch. Try Sandra Kurtzig's CEO: How to Build a $200 Million Company from the Ground Up.

Inspiring, entertaining, and thought-provoking.
The story of The Home Depot is one of the greatest success stories of our time. Finally, we can all learn the keys to this success from the two great leaders who built it. This engaging book gives us the inside story. One great lesson is the importance of values for success in business and life. The book gives us a clear sense of the values that drive The Home Depot and its exemplary leaders. Co-founders Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank show by this book another key tool to their success -- read this book and you will see that great leaders can and should be great communicators.

Quality Material
I just finsihed reading this book and it is undoubtedly high quality material. Anyone reading this book gets a very informative history of the Home Depot and the two owners behind it. You also get a clear picture of the management style of the company as well as what their priorities are. I am not a do it yourself person when it comes to home maintenance so last wekend I decided to view the experience from the inside of one of Home Depot's stores. Not expecting to buy anything, I left with four items that I could use for my apartment. Let me tell you, the associates are all fairly nice people and the shelves are stacked up high. Was everything perfect in the store, no, but we all could improve ourselves in someway. Anyway, as a shareholder in the company, I am proud to say that this is a company that is going to be around for a long time. And this book truly depicts the Home Depot environment very well as it focuses on a very large audience.

Inspiration from within
In Prescriptions For Living, Bernie Siegel opens up a new view for any open minded person to explore. It gives new insight into a world of love and understanding in order to help oneself and others. This book is for all to read because everyone can use improvement on relationships with loved ones, work-related stress, or just to accept the fact that love and time can heal all. With his own personal experience and anecdotes to share, this book is a very enjoyable and beneficial read.

Good Medicine
The prescriptions offered in this book touch the heart and give us greater insights into what we are here to do in this life. In a humorous and heartfelt style, Dr. Siegel blends his own special wisdom with his heartfelt words. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a shot in the arm or some real soul medicine.

Prescriptions for Living are just what the doctor ordered!
If you've not read a Bernie Siegel before, a pioneer in the field of mind-body medicine, I encourage you to find his Love, Medicine & Miracles as well. I've reviewed Dr. Siegel's works from the start & I've always been helped, enlightened & interested by his take on living. When we met at conventions, we'd glance at our name tags, grin & energetically compare notes about how it was, at that time, in that moment. Later, as we zoomed hither & yon about our itineraries, we'd collide laughing, embrace & wave farewell. That's how Bernie Siegel affects you & that's how he writes. Vivid, energetic, affectionate & refreshing. I've often wondered what would happen to our relationships with our own doctor/s were we to brazenly carry a copy of any one of Bernie Siegel's books to our appointments.

Mosby's Textbook for Long Term Care Assistants

Out of date in body mechanics/transfers/safety
As a nursing instructor working closely with rehab we found this book out of date, with no changes in transfers, body mechanics that have been updated for safety throughout the years. The demos show transfers with staff using poor body mechanics, leaning over residents, not using lower legs using lower back muscles. Moving a person to the side of the bed technique demonstratess segmental movement taking the resident out of body alignment. There are up to date techniques for this. Mercury thermometers are no longer used. A two person transfer to the wheelchair in this book involves picking up the resident from the back and lifting with someone in the front with the legs. if a resident needs this then a hoyer a must. For back safety! The Essentials of Nursing Assistants by Mosby Second Edition, includes the same outdated pictures and demonstrations.

Mosby's Textbook for Long-term care Nursing Assistants
I bought this book along with other recommended reference books for CNAs, and in my opinion this one is the best. It is absolutely a pleasure to read, easy to follow procedures, great color pictures and illustrations. Very user-friendly format. I was actually looking forward to study time using this book.
I would also recommend the Workbook that supplements this textbook.

Mosby's Textbook for Long-term Care Assistants
As a teacher of nursing assistants, I find the book to be the most helpful. Easy reading, descriptive drawings for the procedures they must learn and practice. I am looking forward to an addition of a "student Workbook". Although this textbook does has excellent chapter reviews with practice questions and answers. The State exam is 100 questions long and this helps them with not fearing answering multiple choice questions.

More than a bit contrived and overdone
The best part of the book is its basic plot: a group of "outed" gay ML baseball players become a winning team, under the direction of a crusty, bigoted "old school" owner-manager. The normal development from that could not help but make for an entertaining and enjoyable book.

But the author goes too far ... including distracting side stories about a down-on-his-luck sports writer, religious leaders' takes on homosexuality, and a cheesey local cable TV operator who makes his daughter the team's TV commentator in order to keep her busy. I wasn't expecting (nor did I desire) any "PC" approach to gays, but the author ran with the classic stereotypes to the point where many of the non-gay characters are laughably clueless ... A lot less would have been a lot more, in my opinion.

Funny, stimulating, irreverent, page-turning satire.
This humorous, irreverent satire skewers the hypocrisy of American institutions, i.e., business, media, sports, through an entertaining, fast-moving plot involving the extraordinary success of the first all-gay major league baseball team. Fine characterization and inside looks at baseball and gay lifestyles combine with a non-preachy message to make this novel must reading for anyone who cares about contemporary issues. It would also make a helluva movie!

Batman/Aliens

A Very Entertaining Comic Book!
I think that this is a great comic. It has cool artwork and it has an excellent story. The only problem is that Batman wrestles the Aliens like they are nothing, when they are supposed to be super strong. But besides that, it is very good. A must have for all Aliens comic collectors.

Batman Aliens
I almost didnt buy this book based on the reviews I read on it from amazon at the time I purchased it. But I did and found the reviews to be incorrect, the artwork is rich reminding me of "batman contagion" in its style. The fact that the story did not take place in a city was handled extreamly well. The storyline itself was fine, just an interesting spin on the old "its life jim but not as we know it" plot with charactors being gratifyingly 'offed' right the way through. In a nutshell I'm happy I chose to puchase it. One other small point to note is I bought it 'second hand' through amazon and expected something slightly dog eared at the very least, but I recieved the novel in excellent condition. So if you're 'umming' and 'ahhing' over this one dont, just buy it!

Forget the other reviews........
Without question, this is a five star comic. It is out of print, but I managed to find one at a local comic book store. The art and story are excellent. It reminds me of a movie that was never made. When Batman arrives in the Amazon rain forest, he discovers that a "team" of special agents have already arrived to investigate an Aliens incident. Batman is forced to take charge. I have been a Batman fan for years and highly recommend this comic to other fans......

The Burglar in the Closet

Dental pain taken to the next level
I love the burglar series. These books are well written, and most important, highly entertaining. Expect the unexpected as you drift through what seems like unimportant fluff, only to discover the subtle clues were laid down to allow our favorite burglar to solve yet another set of murders. It all starts with a dental instrument embedded in a woman's chest. The heat is on Bernie again, as New York's finest have him fingered as a suspect. Bernie finds unusual quantities of cash in the unlikeliest of places, as he pastes together the past of his dentist's ex-wife. Bernie pre-maturely pegs the murder on somebody who ends up dead --- in an awkward location. The grand finale is spectacular as always, with Bernie pulling out a fake witness to corroborate his suspicions and force a confession out of the guilty.

Overall, good book.
Although this was not the first 'Bernie Rhodenbarr' mystery in the series, this was my first book by the author. I found the book to be quite good. His first mistake was to not have taken the jewels in the closet with him. It was really far-fetched to think that he would ever find the jewels and I knew that it would be very difficult to find the killer AND the jewels, but in the end, it worked out quite well for him. I will continue to follow with the rest of the 'Bernie Rhodenbarr' mysteries.

Block is the absolute master of the genre!
Lawrence Block is the mystery writer for the thinking person. His Bernie books are witty, humorous, well-written, and, most importantly, never take the reader for granted. These books are intelligent and are completely satisfying. This book, the second in the series, is a wonderful romp. I can't recommend this book enough!

A great place to start
After picking this book up at the library, I am now purchasing it for our home. I found this book to be very helpful. It is very well organized and is easy to find answers to specific questions. The recipes contained were delicious and easy to prepare. The author uses encouragement instead of guilt to motivate his readers. I think this book is an excellent place to start when searching for a healthier eating style.

Excellent advice on cutting fat & increasing fitness in kids
This is a well organized book with lots of useful advice and good dietary recommendations. I just have two complaints: 1) There is an assumption that heavy kids are heavy because they eat junk food and don't exercise. I'm living with a heavy kid who rarely eats junk food and has always exercised a lot. This message is frustrating, to say the least. 2) The title is a problem. My daughter is already hyper-sensitive about her weight, were I to buy this book (I read it at the library), the title itself would confirm to her that I find her "fat." In fact, I would purchase this book, were it not for the title because it is among the best of the books covering the subject, and I've read a number of them. I appreciate the books emphasis on physical fitness. I think a person who is physically fit has a better life and feels better in every way. Parents have an obligation to promote such well being as far as I'm concerned.

A lifestyle to learn again
A life with 50-150 extra pounds is not a very good option. I hope to pass this on to my kids. I've also read don't eat your heart out, which is also a good reference (although I believe heart problems are mostly genetic, up to a point). I was carrying 30 extra pounds which were lost through excercise. I would like to try to teach my kids to not 'eat with the masses'.
