A beautiful tribute to a beautiful bird
The term "peacock" really only applies to the males; females are "peahens," and the entire family is referred to as "peafowl." So, the book PEAFOWL OF THE WORLD is about the different breeds of those beautiful birds commonly known as "peacocks."

This is a beautiful and insightful book, and I believe that it is a must for anyone interested in peafowl. It is perhaps *the* classic of this somewhat obscure genre. It contains many hand-drawn illustrations of peafowl, as well as maps of where they originate from. As the book details, most peafowl are from Asia, but there is a species from Africa as well, the "Congo Peacock."

If you are interested in peafowl, I would recommend buying this book, or at least checking it out at the library.

Detailed and Precise History
I also served at Phu Lam.

This is an excellent detailed history of Phu Lam signal site, the location of the largest and most important communications site during the Vietnam War.

The author was an officer at Phu Lam and was selected to write a history while he was there, which was the genesis for this book.

It is a must reading for anyone who wants to learn about the communications aspect of the Vietnam War and for those who served in relay of communications.

It is a must reading for anyone who worked at Phu Lam, no matter for what period of time. The details and remembrances are sure to bring back memories of that place. It sure did for me.

The selected photos really enhance the book.

All material presented appears to be painstakingly analyzed and referenced. It is definately a "professional" work.

Real Estate Investments in Your Self Directed Retirement Plan: A Guide

You can set up an IRA to buy real estate rather than stock.
This is a very methodical, thorough step by step manual for investing your IRA or retirement funds in real estate. This book was very helpful to me for a number of reasons. A year ago or so I asked three different advisers at Fidelity Mutual Funds whether I could use my IRA money there to purchase and renovate a piece of real estate. They each said no. But this book says the answer should have been yes. That I can set up my own IRA, even a rollover IRA or Keough, and purchase and improve real estate with the money from the IRA. And the book is very methodical about how to do it, including forms and steps in the procedure. I would think the book would also be helpful to estate planners and lawyers who are helping people plan their estates. One thing I wish the authors would address is why should you put your retirement funds in real estate rather in the stock market or mutual funds. Are there tax advantages? Is the income sheltered? Is it easier (ie fewer estate taxes on heirs) to pass real estate on to heirs--is the value of real estate discounted somehow? I wish I had had this book when I was talking to Fidelity so I could have rolled over those IRA funds into this building I bought rather than borrowing money from a bank.

I love this book!
These Junior League books are great! I love them. I have the other Seattle Junior League book and I use that one all the time. (Yum - chicken cous cous salad!) This book is packed full of favorites - easy stuff you can make on the weeknights. I love the menu planning feature in the beginning of the book because sometimes it is hard to put together a whole meal that works. They do it for you!

An essential book for anyone interested in Jewish liturgy.
The brillance of this collection of essays by Rabbi JakobPetuchowski was his ability to take his vast knowledge of Jewish lawand liturgy and make it accessible to students and scholars alike. Each essay is written with intuitive intellect and insight that will challenge the reader to think about the issues raised by R. Petuchowski long after the reader has finished.

Studies on Hysteria

The hidden drives beneath hysteria
A fascinating book that explores the hidden factors behind anxiety, written when Freud was still studying his first hysterical patients that became famous in the psychoanalytic literature. The collaboration with Breur was actually sealed with this book, but ironically it was also the end of their friendship. Apart from the psychoanalytic concepts, the reader can really enjoy the five case studies included in "Study on hysteria". Only one case study was written by Breur and this goes to show that Freud really wanted to go deep into the unconscious whereas Breur after the first patient didn't go any further; basically because he would have had to confront himself with the patient's sexual drives as well as his instincts. This is a very stimulating book that allows the reader to appreciate the kind of female patients affected by hysteria before the 20th century, that were not understood by most psychiatrists. Freud menaged to understand why the repression of the sexual instinct led to a neurosis.
