Ego Steps Aside . . .
This book is a necessity for anyone who enjoys studying ecumenical thought -- a profound yet highly enjoyable read on the commonality between faiths. While reading, you will find yourself mentally entering a place where ego steps aside and allows God to enter. You'll find peace in place of religious disagreement, and understanding in place of religious judgment. A beautiful, thought provoking book.

A Rich Resource
This collection goes far beyond the commonly seen pattern books to offer a fine selection of rarely seen European advertising art and commercial alphabets nicely displayed in full color. An excellent resource not only for patterns and styles, this presents an extensive selection of good-sized full-color plates allowing a feeling for the ambience of period line, form and color.

Author Comments on Book
In retrospect, I encourage everyone to read this book while pondering how eating habits draw people closer together or put them farther apart. You may find that your most cherished or "unforgettable" memories are built around mealtime events. JB

This is the Clasic film script
This is one of about 42 Screenplays in a series. The book is full of stills. The dialog and motion I n script form. There is an introduction by Josef Von Sternberg. The movie stands on its own. However they use expressions to tell you what is in black and white in this book. The English and German versions were made separately (not dubbed)

Virtue and being
Pieper spends much of his effort in defining the true meaning behind words that have been perverted or lost their depth of meaning over time. Words like: faith, prudence, listening, silence, fortitude, patience, sensuality, passion, anger, indolence, magnamity, humility, hope, and acedia. The modern mind, it would appear, has lost the vocabulary keys to salvation and proper moral elocution. Pieper argues, in the simpliest, if not only way, I can define, that too much subjection of one's senses to unfilterd, unanalyzed, unrationalized, unpassioned exposure can lead to a distancing from one's true nature of self, and also a distancing, if not hopeless seperation, from cummunication with the divine. The between-the-lines inference here is too much tv, newspapers, cnn, and anything that is unpassioned and unrationalized to oneself is detrimental to the soul. It is noise, noise, and does not fill the heart, too much of this state and one's heart can get out of tune, possibly irrevocably. Pieper argues that acedia is the state of one not fulfilling the true beauty of one's divine nature and passion. This laziness of endeavor is a sin against nature and God, as well as to oneself. This book is jam packed with good reasons on why my soul is doomed to everlasting damnation. Not a feel good bandaid sort of book of nice little aphorisms. This book is deadly serious and after a serious reading one might be lucky enough to realize the big job involved in being oneself, and how important that is to God. As serious as the air one breaths. Silence and rationalized enrichment, Pieper defines them both. A superficial reading of the book might lead one to think it is just a bunch of unconnected maxims - far from it. A nice little book. Bring a dictionary.

Great practical and scholarly guide to working in trauma
This book represents an exhaustive review of various cognitive-behavioral approaches to the treatment of trauma. It is scholarly and founded on strong scientific research without being pedantic or preachy. Amost every chapter has real-life clinical examples with actual narrative transcripts which can be quite compelling. I especially like the chapters on treating dysfunctional guilt and on dissociation, areas seldom discussed in traditional behavioral circles. All in all, I think this is a great addition to the library of any clinician dealing with emotional trauma.

Diverse and Enjoyable
This was a nice break from the usual gay fiction anthology, but some writers were familiar: best Stephen Beachy's "torque", David Dakar, Richard Schimpf and Jim Provenzano, whose collage style shows a haunting future. robert Patrick's "The War Over Jane Fonda" reveals family disagreements that lead to more. Some of the stories fulfill the goal of providing dissident voices (Provenzano's the strongest among that category) others are sweet in their prose stylings (Charles Derry's "Keeping Track"). the Jack-in-the-Box cover is odd, but what can you expect from those wacky Canadians!
