A primer for preparing to publish
This book will show you the basics of publishing, with an emphasis on producing the final product. Whether you are self-publishing or need to communicate intelligently with your publisher, this book will be of great use. It's strengths are in explaining the editorial, production and design process. It is less strong in explaining marketing. It contains a glossary which is very good, and directories which will help you continue to educate yourself.

Secrets Revealed
This is a good basic introduction to the exciting world of self-publishing. The author covers forming your publishing company, copyright, prepress, printing and selling. Since she worked in the production department of a large commercial printer, her advice on printing is particularly good.

Sylvia serves as an officer in both writing and publishing organizations and she is a consultant to the publishing industry. She generously shares her experience and wisdom.

The 38 pages of resources and the glossary of terms alone are worth the price of the book.

As a publisher, author of 28 Books, 109 revised editions, six translations and over 500 magazine articles as well as a consultant to the book publishing industry, I recommend this book to both authors and publishers....

An excellent guide, an excellent gift!
For any writer considering publishing independently, Sylvia Hemmerly's Unlocking the Secrets of Publishing is not only a simplified guide to independent publishing; it is a friendly introduction to the process.

Books that describe an industry often seem to be written in a secret code that frightens newcomers away, but Sylvia Hemmerly's book invites you in and introduces you to the world of self-publishing in an encouraging way. Her information is well organized and attractively presented. This book is filled with solid basic information and helpful hints.

If you are ready to take the leap and get your work into print, this should be your first guide. If you have a friend or family member who is an aspiring author, this book would be a perfect gift!

I found Who is Sylvia a great read: absorbing and provocative. You don't have to be a shrink to enjoy it and profit from it.

Sylvia Rocks!
A refreshing approach to therapy. Particularly D. Peven's direct and sometimes humorous approach to mending the psyche. No punches pulled, no magic wands, just attentive understanding and creative methods all wrapped inside the continuous and uncontrollable ebb & flow of life.

provocative sensitive
interesting personal and down to earth. Book reveals insights into everyone's hidden side. Gives everyone something to identify with without feeling guilty about our own craziness.

Accessories after the fact : the Warren Commission, the authorities, and the report

( a must have research book), a reader from Dalhart, Tx
Ms. Meagher's book is well documented, insightful and detailed. She skillfully takes the reader through discrepancies in the Warren Commission report and lays it all out for the reader. Her conclusions are based on facts that are very clearly presented, and on common sense. At no time did I get the impression that this book was attempting to influence my views on the work of the Warren Commission. Ms. Meagher spells it out for the reader step by step.

An excellent, thought provoking Book!
Reading this book makes you wonder how many police departments and courts actually did what they were supposed to back in the 1960s, and how they're doing today. Ms Meagher does an excellent job breaking down the Warren Commission's report and demonstrating that their synopsis of events is based on multiple errors, misstatements, and wishful thinking. Having come out before most of the "conspiracy theory" genere that surrounds JFK assassinations tories today, Ms. Meaghers book stands above all of them. She refuses to let her book wander into sensationalism, does not implicate UFO's or any such things, nor does she mix in photos which claim to show the truth but are often blurry, grainy or totally unrevealing to the lay reader. Instead, she stays on target, picking apart the Warren Commission's flawed analysis with nimble wit and skill.

She did her homework!
After reading much of the core literature (eg, Lane, Lifton, Weisberg) in recent years, this book was recommended as an early (1960s, I think) but rigorous analysis of the Warren Report's skewed findings. You might especially enjoy Ms. Meagher's analysis of the mysterious movements of Patrolman JD Tippit just before his death. Or, revisit the fundamental facts of the case that have become so muddled in intervening years.

Three cheers to the author, as this is NOT meager research, by any means!

Our Baby's Bedtime
My 18 month old son and I both love this book. I think he can really relate to the illustrations for several reasons. First of all, the characters, like his family and himself, are black people. Secondly, the book shows the family doing things that we do as a family such as reading, singing, giving the baby a bath, and giving the baby a good night kiss. This book reflects a normal, two parent family who have a lot of love for their child. What could be healthier?

Extremely age appropriate for even the youngest children.
Even though my daughter is only 15 months old, this is definitely one of her favorite books and has been since she was old enough to pick her own books out. The story is simple and short, teaching healthy family values. The pictures are bright, colorful and genuine. Each page has just a few lines which are all a young child can handle. And the book itself is constructed of sturdy hardboard, making it easy for her to turn the pages, just like in the story. She makes me read this story every night and appears to listen intently each time. I highly recommend it for even the youngest infants.

An excellent bedtime book for babies!
This is one of the sweetest little bedtime books for babies. It is short, with colorful pictures, and a nice rhythmical rhyme. It is one of a series featuring African-American families. But, like any good book, it is written for all colors! I applud the authors and publisher. If you cannot purchase it, find it in your library. This is a good book to introduce your baby to the world of reading!

Well, it worked!
I got a Jack Russels terrier three months ago and when I brought her home it was like bringing Tarzan home from the jungle. This little creature was totally uncivilized, knew nothing, turned our lives in a living hell. The first thing she did was to bite me when I attempted to clean her ears (thank God she had the baby teeth when she did that!). She was barking & biting us, no one would dare to touch her! My little "Tarzan" finally responded to her name after a whole month. I was so surprised with her behavior, comparing her to my poodle who brought all her good manners with her upon birth and learned everything almost instantly. I was really in a bad situation with her since I had to find a way to civilize my Tarzan and make her part of the family. I got a few books on training, and used my own methods I used for my poodle but none of them would work. Tarzan would still bite us, bark any time of the day and unfortunately night too, take things from the coffee table, drink our coffee from the cup when left alone, and take GOOD care of all the plants in the house!

That's when this book came to the rescue. I must say I was very surprised with the techniques the author uses, but since I was desperate and had nothing to lose I put those methods to work. Well, after only a week Pinky learned more than what I tried to teach her in two months time.

The author is down to earth when it comes to dog training, making it clear that you have to understand that it's a dog you are trying to train and not human. She shows you the dog's point of view in order to understand their behavior better. Why they do the things they do, their way of thinking, and how you can can solve those problems. How would I know that by just spraying plain, natural water on her face would stop her from biting! But it did. That simple. Or when you want your dog to come to you, you must not run after her as she takes that for a game, but simply sit down and pat your legs.

We all love our dogs, there's no doubt. If we didn't, we wouldn't have got them in the first place. But that doesn't stop them from barking or biting. Just showing love and affection to the dog won't solve any behavior problem. If you are in the same situation I was, get this book, and you will see the benefits from the very first lesson. Thank you Mrs. Wilson.

Magically effective
We couldn't leave our dog in the back yard because of her barking at children, at neighbors, at the enemy cats next door, at joggers . . . everyone and everything. After three or four days of following the suggestions in this book, we have no more annoying barking. None! It's a miracle.

I don't know this author and have no stake at all in her selling this book. But if you have a behavior problem with your dog, you'll never spend a better fifteen dollars (with shipping).

This book will fix your pet problems
On Saturday morning 2nd August 1997 I took my dog "Chisel" a boxer staffy X for a walk as usual to the shops. And as usual he dragged me from the moment I left my house to the moment I returned. My hands were sore and my arms were tired. At the shops he also jumped up playfully onto a passer by who was clearly not impressed.

I had heard about "Bark Busters" and had seen the book at the vets. I went down to my nearest bookstore on Saturday around lunchtime and bought the book. I read through the first half and then turned to my specific problem on dogs "pulling" on the leash.

By Monday morning 4th August 1997 my dog was walking calmly by my side and it was once again a pleasure to take him for a walk.

There are some other problems I would like to cure and I am confident that using the techniques outlined in the book I will have no problem

Outstanding reference
An outstanding reference for stewardship work. This book explores the role of money in the parish, why it's so difficult to talk about, and what needs to change.

A must for people who want to understand stewardship
A very good and comprehensive review of where stewardship in the church is in the last ten years. This will take you through motivation, understanding, and give you insights into how to resolve your stewardship dilemas. People who are strugling with stewardship will find this book most informative and helpful. You may not like all that is said but all needs to be said and thought about. Most thought provoking and insightful.

The last stewardship book you'll buy!
Without a doubt, this is THE best stewardship book I've ever read! Like you, I've endured many a stewardship campaign, technique, and gimmick--only to find it unsatisfying, ultimately. This book examines everything that has been done under the sun in stewardship (be it mainline Protestant, evangelical Protestant, or Roman Catholic), and discusses, rationally, why it is counterproductive in the long run. While it is a big book and does discuss research, it is easily accessible to all. Interestingly enough, I found it hard to put down--it is that good! Buy this one now.

Can I Have Two Please??
I ordered this book for my mom, but when it came the cover looked so inviting I thought I would read a few pages, just to "see". I was hooked. I did not put it down until I was finished. Now I am going to order another one so that I have my own copy. Growing up in Santa Ana, it was fun reading about places I knew and I found myself trying to see if I recognized any of the characters! I am a lover of romance novels and not a great fan of mysteries but the combination of the two in this wonderful book has me hooked and wanting more. So Sylvia! Is there a sequel on the horizon?? I would be front and center waiting to order if there was. Thanks for a really great read.

Superb Psychological Thriller
BLOOD ORANGE is set in the home of my youth, Orange County, in the 1950's. The setting was so real, I could swear the aroma of orange blossoms filled my room. Turning page after scary page, I found myself engrossed in this spine-tingling psychological thriller. Those orange groves looked pretty scary to me, as a kid, and now I know they truly were a dangerous place - perfect for murder, mystery...and hair-raising adventure. Ms. Snyder's captivating cast of characters, led by a strong female heroine, wind their way through this very frightening tale. The ending is quite chilling, and I read it twice for double thrills! I look forward to further great reads from this author and heartily recommend BLOOD ORANGE.

Even Surgery Could Wait
BLOOD ORANGE A story of love, lust, Terror and death By Sylvia Snyder. I read BLOOD ORANGE In the waiting room of the hospital while my husband Hank was undergoing surgery down the hall. Even before I finished the prologue, I knew I was hooked. The hustle and bustle sounds of the hospital staff muted as I turned page after page after page. I never looked at my watch once. I got so engrossed in this psychological thriller that I was almost irritated when Dr. Taylor interrupted my reading to tell me my husband's surgery had been a success. I rushed to room 409, managing to finish BLOOD ORANGE and discover the identity of the murderer right before the nurses rolled Hank in from the recovery room. This book is a suspense novel full of terrifying clues left in a lush orange grove, leaving the reader constantly wondering which of the characters the murderer might be. Is it Mo who lusts for Celia? Is it Paul who is married to Celia? Is it Nat who flirts openly with Celia? And, who will be the next victim? Will it be Mo? Will it be Paul? Will it be Celia or one of her children? How could such terrible things happen in such a perfect neighborhood? "When along came a spider who sat down beside her..." If you fancy spiders, you'll love this book. If you detest spiders, you'll love this book. If you like strong happy endings, you'll devour this book. Sylvia Snyder has once again given us the gift of a great read.-- Lola D. Gillebaard is an author, an associate college professor, and a motivational humorist.

Most Modern
It is amazing how you can change a space in your home when you have a picture of exactly what you want to recreate. Your home is the place where you can take full control of your surroundings.

We bought our first house last year and I really have had trouble figuring out what exactly I want to do in certain rooms. I found Pier 1 to be a favorite hang out, but seriously, you have to figure out what your personal style is going to be and this book does help you see what appeals to you.

I'm definitely in love with the Antique tub in a nostalgic bathroom complete with a fireplace, but it aint gonna happen! I also have visions of a grand piano and built in bookshelves and a fireplace and a Persian Style bedroom complete with plenty of pillows for the cats to lounge around on.

For cooks, you will enjoy seeing Elizabeth David's comfy kitchen complete with a cat. In fact the kitchen section in this book is a real highlight. There is a family kitchen plan on pg. 64 which is just spectacular.

The chapters include:

Kitchen - the best part of this book!
Living Area - Cushy couches, please.
Bedroom - Clean Lines and open spaces
Bathroom - Whirlpool baths with a view and some amazing children's bathroom ideas.
Home Office - The second best part of this book!
Ancillary Space - A utility room plan to die for!
One-Room Living - Reminds me of my first studio apartment!!!
Planning Details - A section on worksurfaces in the kitchen is useful.

Great for Inspiration BEFORE you build your own home or for getting ideas on how you want to remodel areas of your home. Also useful for planning how you are going to fill up that big empty room.

Modern Designs, Creative Design Solutions, Dual-Purpose Offices and Small-Space Bathrooms are also a feature.

Yes, Modern Style about says it.

It's all in the details!
Although no book can be all inclusive, this comes close. Diagrams and photographs are plentiful in this book. From kitchens to wall coverings, everthing is explained in depth. This book even contains diagrams on how low your bedside table should be compared to your bed! We are talking details! This book explains things that other books have taken for granted! Enjoy!

A sane future
Ms. Engdahl's works are the rare sort that broaden or change philosophical mindsets while being great stories with characters the reader never forgets. That any of her works are out of print is a mystery. Whenever I have loaned anyone her books, they have devoured them in one sitting and begged for more. The Far Side of Evil is a realistic depiction of the emotions involved in individuals living in a world divided by ideology. The writing is a masterpiece of human psychology. More than that, it offers hope of a sane future for humanity presented with calm rationality and certainty. And even more than that, you can't help but laugh and cry with Elana, and feel, as she does, empathy for those whose emotions have pulled them in destructive ways yet who are not bad people, just mistaken. The people of Elana's world view compassion as a strength, unlike our still Youngling world with its emphasis on the hard exterior which is only an appearance of strength. I read this book for the first time when I was 12, and I still check it out from the library. My son read it and loved it as much as I do (though the Children of the Stars trilogy is his favorite)If only the publishers would sit up and take notice and reprint this book!

The far side of evil
I read this book when it first was published, and recentlyfound it again when moving and going through books. Even thirty yearslater, it is still fresh, and gives a vivid picture of totalitarian society as seen by an outsider. The moral and ethical issues are interwoven with a touch of Sci Fi. It might be classified as 'young adult' but this adult enjoyed it once again!

A must read!
This is a wonderful sequel to 'Enchantress from the Stars', telling about the further adventuers of Elena. As good as the first book. But please, why isn't it in print?

Witchery of Archery

Bedtime Reading
A gentle book telling tales of archery in the deep south of USA, poetic and visually descriptive of the slower life of holiday adventures and the enjoyment shared by two brothers with the bow and arrow during the late 1800's, don't be put off that it is a photocopy book of an out of print edition, the print might be bad, but the content is good. Good bedtime reading.

Like meeting a stranger you have known your whole life.
Like twenty serpents bound together hissed the flying arrows feather. Mauriece Thompson wrote this book in a gentler time for a less politically correct reader.

MUST reading for every Bowhunter/Archer!!!
Maurice Thompsons'writing style is simply magnificent!!I first read this book when I started bowhunting and was in an absolute state of awe! I couldn't put it down!! This book is a beautifully detailed piece of artwork for hunter and non-hunter alike. It will truly give the non-hunter a glimpse into the feelings that motivate the bowhunter...
