I love this book!
I have purchased a number of aromatherapy books over the past year or so and taken out about every one my local library holds. This book far exceeds them all for practical, accesible knowledge. They make it fun and start you out with oils that most people can afford. Some of the books I have list recipes, supposedly for beginners, that use 10 drops of rose absolute, jasmine and the more expensive or unusual oils. That's all well and good, but for someone just getting into aromatherapy, they aren't likely to spend... $$$ for a 1/4 oz. bottle of rose EO.

This book is easy to understand, the recipes are easy to make and easy to enjoy and the information provided is good. They start out with oils that are affordable and easily found, but also present special oils each month, like jasmine, frankinsence, and rose, that one can "move up to".

The only thing I wish they had made more clear or stressed more was about applying oils neat. Some of the recipes aren't clear about that and for someone who is just starting, they may not realize that there aren't a lot of oils that you want to use neat due to their strength.

Anyway, great book! I love it.

Perfect for Beginners and Useful Long Afterwards
Paula and Judi have compiled an incredible introduction for someone new to aromatherapy. The book is so easy to follow and read, and the blends are so easy to make and use. In addition, the blends in this book are timeless. You won't outgrow this book. What I liked the best about the blends is you see results immediately. To top it off, it's one of the most beautiful books I've seen. Great on the coffeetable, a great conversation piece, and forever in use. Keep it handy!

Seasons of Aromatherapy
Seasons of Aromatherapy by Paula M. Bousquet and Judith Fitzsimmons is a joy! This book feels like an invitation from an old friend to go exploring. I have been borrowing a copy for much too long...TODAY I AM BUYING MY OWN! Thanks!

Recommend it
Fantastic Story in High Energy. Wished it didn't end. Laughed out loud.

Definitely Non-Linear!
HIGH ENERGY - Zanita Masterson, reporter for a small-town newspaper owned by her grandpa, is tired of the brainless assignments she's given and wants to get something with more pizazz. So she goes to sign up for a psychic healing class thinking to do a story on it and ends up in a physics class instead. (Zanita can't spell.) The instructor is none other than world-reknowned Tyberius Augustus Evans, hunk extraordinaire'. He sees Zanita and he's hooked. Zanita and Tyber are two people with a mission...Zanita to get her story and Tyber to get Zanita. ONly Zanita has sworn off men. A light and amusing story. The secondary characters are terrific...Zanita's friend "Mills" is a babe in her own right and we meet a possible match for her, but Zanita's "Auntie" is the star, with three hats and an attitude. I can't tell you enough good things about it. Read it!

I highly recommend this book. Be decisive and buy BE DECISIVE!

An inspirational speaker creates an inspirational book
Lou Ann Smith is a speaker who really knows how to get her points across. In "Decisive" she shares six critical points to ponder when making those hard choices. A writer who has impacted before, but really shines in this work.

deep sadness
Two books by the son of William S. Burroughs. Soul crushing sadness. While the Elder Burroughs' writing has an almost scriptural cadence to it, (Bill Jr, says "Naked Lunch" was transcribed), the Junior Burroughs writing is page after page of unrelenting despair and self-pity; well-written, yes, but Darker-than-Dark...In his afterword to the book the Elder Burroughs' describes his son's writing as illustrative of the Cultural Revolution and Dream that was the 60's. Bill Jr's writing shows the 60's as a nightmare and you may feel fortunate to wake from it after finishing the book. And, as so many "Revolutions" of the 20th century abysmally failed, perhaps this was one more revolution we can thankfully see fizzle and fade. In "Speed" Bill Jr. confidently predicts that the long-hair revolutionaries he sees are gonna shake up the world and never sell out...well... Fascinating book, well-written, haunting and exasperating, important addition for folks who collect the Elder Burroughs stuff. Just don't read this book with any sharp objects nearby...

From A Former...
I am a former Heroin addict. Although the author himself does not dive into the horrors of the addiction, he feels the same pain for speed that a Junkie will feel for Heroin. Burroughs, Jr. is a wonderful writer, and I will say even better than his old man. The second book, Kentucky Ham, does tend to fly off of the subject at the end, but his off-the-subject commentary is touching and real, and seems to fit just fine. If you want to understand yer local neighborhood Junkie better, read this book. Oh, hell, read it anyway.

A Toutching Story Of A Real Person
I love and have loved these two books by Billy Jr for years. I have read them 3-4 times and swear they only get better w/each re-read. When you finish the last page of Kentucky Ham (having read Speed first and the second book subsequently) you feel like you and Billy had just hung out together for a little while. And it feels like that evey time you read his stuff. How sad that he was indeed "cursed from birth" and had such a short sad life but how intruiging it was!

An Excellent Book About Business Principles
I really enjoyed this book. I was vacationing at a Marriott Hotel and actually bought this book I wanted to read it so much (even though I thought it should just be given away to the guests). It did not disappoint me. As one of the other reviewers noted, it was a well-written, easy read.

Mr. Marriott inspired me with the business tips contained in the book. I especially enjoyed reading about the checklists that Marriott Hotels uses in its business. I really like checklists too. Why invent the wheel everytime you want to do something? Why try to remember all of the steps needed to complete a task, such as making up a room at a Marriott Hotel? Why not just find out what works and put it on paper?! In this way, a business can create a standardized process that can be taught to its employees, instead of relying upon each individual's whim. This idea is also discussed in Michael Gerber's excellent book, The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It.

I also enjoyed reading J. W. Marriott, Jr's criticisms of his father's way of making decisions (I also thought it was interesting that he was so negative with regard to his father, in a published book). Jr. said that his father fretted too much about decisions and basically drove himself crazy. Jr. says in this book that one should not try to make a perfect business decision. That involves too much angst and is a waste of time. One should gather the necessary information to make an informed decision as best as one can, then actually make the decision. The price of pefection is prohibitive.

I hope you find this book as enjoyable and as inspiring as I did.

Inspiring business advice from a non-business book
Ran into a copy of this succint biographical book at the Sydney Marriott alongside the Bible/Gita/Buddhist manual, and I wasn't too sanguine about something from the hospitality industry being too relevant to me. But this slim, easy read may actually connect with almost any business person. More so if you are in any way related to customer services or marketing.

Without skipping any beat on chapters of glorious prose, ala TypicalBusinessBook, it shoots straight from the gut about the tenets of Marriott -- how with sheer determination it shot to the big league from a small cottage inn, the MBE leadership style of Marriott (the younger Marriott that is) who prefers to walk his troops instead of boardroom inertia, lessons in team building, the importance of listening to all the levels of the organization, codifying past experiences into business philosophies (not the usual "Best Practices" bromide that is bandied about in elite echelons of business) etc etc.

In all respects, a hidden business gem of a book.

Now the million (ok, 11) dollar question. You can imagine how I got my copy. So would I *buy* this book if I had to? For the basement price, and for the simple but compelling REAL WORLD lessons, most likely yes.

Excellent business advice
I stayed at a Marriott in Denver last week and found a copy of this book in the nightstand. I expected it to be hogwash and instead found it to be the most useful business book I've ever read. It is a quick read (about 150 pages, not the 240 mentioned in the Amazon catalog). It is entertaining without being self-indulgent and informative without being preachy. The anecdotes revealed an appropriate level of introspection (my one quibble is that Mr. Marriott claims that his family and faith come before business and yet also describes himself as a workaholic). I'm not in the hospitality industry and yet I found dozens of parallels to my own business (computer software and book publishing). Most interesting were the frank assessments of Marriott's business mistakes. He truly used them as an opportunity to learn. The book is chock full of excellent and thought-provoking strategies and totally devoid of the cheesy buzzwords so prevalent in, say, the latest Tom Peters books. Although I have no association with Marriott, the book will cause me to examine the entire service industry in a new light.

Lots of action!
Hi, I'm Marah. I really loved this book. I like the part were she went in the war and was fighting. I felt like I was in it. BUY THIS BOOK!

The Secret Soldier
The Secret Soldier is a marvellous biography about a valiant woman named Deborah Sampson. She was undoubtedly one of the most courageous and adventurous woman in America. This book is a fabulous story of a youthful woman who was born impoverished, and was ent from house to house until she came of ge to be on her own. Determined to discover adventure, she disguises herself as a soldier and fights in the Revolutionary War. She wanted adventure and she certainly got it.
I highly recommend this book to any variety of children. It is a quick read but at the same time it's very intriguing. I relished this book because it is a true story about a real girl who really lived. It captures your attention and doesn't let it go until the very end!

A good book to check out of the library
The book is touching, I'll give Ann Imbrie that, but really, she doesn't have enough material to warrent a full length book. Because she lacks many facts, she invents what she doesn't know and does a good job doing it, but the book should be marketed as such i.e. it is really about her feelings and reminisces of her dead friend, not what happened to her. An excellent book to borrow from a friend, check out from the library, or purchase used, but i wouldn't pay full price for it.

listed in another book also
I have not read this book as it is out of stock and I just found out about it but this crime is in Ann Rule's book You Belong to me, if someone wants to read about the killer Gary Taylor.

Spoken in Darkness
I really enjoyed reading the book. I am an eighth grader at Bowling Green Junior High. I felt like I understood alot about the Lee and that I could relate to some of her problems. I thought that the book was wonderful. Thank you Ann Imbrie!
