Suzy Who?
I read the book call Suzy Who?, and I thought that it was a good book. It is about a girl named Suzy, who is starting her first year of high school. Ever since she was in grade school, she was teased about her clothes, hair, and about being unpopular. She prays that something will change this year, and it does. She meets the most popular guy in school and ends up falling in love with him. She goes into costume making for the upcoming play Oklahoma, which Peter, the most popular boy, is in. He ends up breaking up with his girlfriend Melissa a week before the Spring Fling, and so he asks Suzy to go to the dance. She goes with him and she does not have as good of a time as she thought she would.

The Everything Tarot Book
I think this guide makes it somewhat easy to research Tarot and get started. I found it easy to look for the card and interpret what it means. I reccomend this book to any begginer.

Bad Points: The pictures it shows are not of the most popular deck- Ryder-Waite.

Walk to the End of the World and Motherlines (The Holdfast Chronicles, Books 1 & 2)

Good, thought-provoking reads
Charnas crafts a dystopia based on vilest trait of our culture: intolerance, notably racism and mysogyny.

Of the two, I much preferred _Motherlines_, simply because the characters and the culture of the free women are so much more compelling and interesting than those of the men in the first book.

These are not books for light reading, nor are the books likely to be popular with men; too bad. But if you're the type who gets uncomfortable with feminist content, you are not going to enjoy these books. But I sure did; both are damn good books.

A View Inside A Shrine to Self
The Windsors, while they were living, epitomized style, glamour, and wit. Ultimately theirs was a wasted life, empty of meaning in the end. From the heady days of their scandalous romance, life was all downhill, a private struggle to conserve their dignity in the aftermath of the abdication. To fill this emptiness and lack of purpose in life, the Duchess obsessed on perfection; of herself, of the things she collected and of the table she set. The Windsor's sous chef spent hours sorting salad leaves into leaves of exactly the same size to be set before their guests. Their relationship was a hollow recreation of the childhood the Duke never could leave behind. Moulin de la Tuilerie, their country home outside of Paris, was the York Cottage of Edward's youth reborn. Wallis herself was Queen Mary, obsessively arranging the display of small objets and cosseting the little boy who was King. A long time servant said, "They had nothing and no-one. They were just two lonely old people." Suzy Menkes takes the reader on an interesting tour through not only of the tangible objects of this relationship, but of the relationship itself.

Suzy Spencer Tackles A Hard Case
The shocking tragedy of the Yates children is hard to cope with. When this book was released I didn't want to go near it. But something about understanding how a mother could do such a thing drew me near.

Yes this is a book that seemed rushed, yes it's about a case no one wants to ADMIT to reading about. But none the less it is a GOOD true crime book. Suzy Spencer puts together a excellent story filled with details, and information on some of the explanations.

Although I will never fully understand, I feel I am somewhat more enlightened.

It's a tragic book, but then again aren't most true crime books?

Too Unreal....
When I heard about Andrea Yates drowning her 5 kids,
I could not believe it. I went on the journey to find
out why. I was hoping the jury would find her insane
Which I think she was. After reading Spencers book
I could at least look into her life, although the book
was written very rapid, she got her point across.
Andrea was living the life her husband wanted HIM to
live. She was a meek person, who was overwhelmed by
5 children, homeschooling, chores around the house.
While her husband went to work, she was stuck at home.
He would give her night off, BUT that night off was
to go shopping for food. I find Rusty 50% at fault
He should do some jail for not being there for his
wife. He clearly was at fault for not doing more.
I found myself disliking Rusty more and more as I read
the book. He overpowered Andrea, whatever he said was
the word. I feel so sorry for these children who were
so innocent. We can only wonder what went inside this
house. But I do expect more books to be written and we
can only read and try to understand....We all know
that Andrea's life is done. Rusty, well who cares, he
will find someone to have more children with...
Rest in peace Children.

Great Book!
I don't review alot of books or read alot of books published before the trial,But the shock and horror of Andrea Yates killing those 5 children just stayed with me. I seen the book and bought it. It was a good book about a horrible crime. When I first saw this awful Tradgedy on the news I wanted Andrea Yates Hung from the nearest tree. After reading the book , I see now how very troubled she was.She should be punished , but so should her husband and the mental health community. I am glad Ms. Spencer spared us some of the gory details. The book was very informative and gave me a much better understanding on what was/wasnt going on in Andrea Yates head! ...

How did this book get published?
I tried to stay awake from the get go, but the story was slow at the beginning and slower in the middle and the ending didn't make much sense at all.

Maybe for the Younger Reader...
As a long-time fan of vampire fiction, I have had the opportunity to read many different kinds of novels, shorts, etc. Although "The Ruby Tear" is certainly not one of the worst, it isn't one of the best, either.

The story is pretty mundane; a vampire with a grudge against the family who wiped out his family centuries ago. He wants revenge and the jewel the invaders stole. Of course there is the tragic heroine and star-crossed lover story line. And of course the vampire -- who should be old enough to know better -- falls for the girl and screws up his revenge.

The story moves along but it really is more on the order of a Harlequin Romance than the true vampire genre. Not bad for a snack, but don't expect too much substance.

A wonderful vampire story in a contemporary setting.
He had been dying on the battlefield when the lady appeared to him. They made a deal. She would give him immortal life as a vampire to hunt down his family's traitor and their descendants until the line is wiped out, as well as, retrieve the ruby necklace the traitor had stolen. Afterward, he would do whatever she said. She wanted other's pain and blood.

Nic is the last of his line. He thought the family curse was but a story. But the lady on the white horse appeared to him. He swerved his car to avoid hitting her and nearly killed his fiance. Now he knows the story is true. A gift would appear next to him or his loved one as warning. Then the vampire will show to kill him. Nic knew the men in his family always died tragically. Now he knew why. Once he knew his fiance, Jessamyn would recover, he broke all ties to her. It was the only way to keep her out of the curse. He refused to have children to carry on the curse. It was time to take a stand. Win or be the last to die to the curse.

Jessamyn had recovered from the accident which nearly crippled her. Nic had thrown her love away and would not even accept her calls. Now Nic had written the best play possible about a family curse and an emerald necklace. She wanted the lead part. She was the best actress for the job. But Nic was determined she would have no part in this play. It was bait to lure a vampire. Jessamyn does get the part. Someone is causing accidents to make her leave the play. A gift of old jewelry shows up and a new strange man comes into her life. A man trying to find Nic through her...a dangerous man.

No applause for suzy cow!
Although I was eagerly anticipating perusing this novel, I was sorely disappointed, disillusioned, and dismayed at the sheer audacity of this story in implying the portral of stuffed bovine companions being evil.

The Quest for the Perfect Buttons
This is an adorable story of a young girl and a stuffed cow made for her by her mother, with love. Through this story, written in prose, the reader comes to realize, just as the author does, that it isn't how you are dressed which counts, but rather how others feel when they are with you.

Witzey's Shapes
This concept book encourages children's interaction with a wheel of shapes built into the back of the book. This allows children to match shapes throughout the story. Cute illustrations and a small size for little hands.

Witzy's Shapes Review
Witzy's Shapes, a circular board book, teaches pre-schoolers to recognize shapes by asking them to name the shapes in the pictures and to match them up with the shapes on a moveable window the children can turn themselves. This concept book is written in easy to understand language and contains bright, colorful illustrations to hold the attention of even the youngest of children.

Who is educating whom?
The play "Educating Rita" is quite a good one. It's interesting to follow Rita's change and her new experiences educated by Frank.

At the beginning Rita doubt herself and is absolutely not satisfied with her life. Till she meets Frank. She becomes more and more independent and self-confident. And so she finally leaves her husband and starts her life new. At the end she also leaves Frank because she doesn't need him any longer. Frank is lonely now; he has lost a good friend and his job too, because of his alcool- problem.

She has changed her life, but she isn't happier with her new life, because she can't go back and she doesn't arrive to manage her new life.

Education?
Willy Russell wrote a play about a woman who tries to find herself by being educated. Her name is Rita. She reads a lot of books and with the help of her professor Frank she is also able to understand them. She becomes independent, she leaves her husband and changes her life completely. At the end she doesn't need her teacher any longer and they go separate ways. The tragic point of the play is that Rita can't really improve her life inspite of all education. She can't go back to her former life, but she hasn't a new one yet. Frank is going to Australia, after loosing his job, because he is an alcoholic.

The play is interesting, but there are a lot of authors mentioned who make the whole text a bit difficult to read. It has been written in dialogues and threw the whole play there are only Rita and Frank talking to each other. We can recommend the book.

Does fate exist thanks to the existstence of societies?
This is yet another play written by Russel criticising the british classing system. This book tells the story of a young women, tired of her own class, who wants to change her way of life. This makes her an outcast in both her society and the one she is trying to become a member of....it is gripping and moving, but unfortunately very true..

Best Dressed: The Born to Shop Lady's Secrets for Building a Wardrobe

Judge this book by its cover.
Like other reviewers of this book, I too noticed that the outfits featured on the back cover were none too appealing. They are presumably very expensive outfits, though, and serve as visual notice of the type of advice contained in the book.

The advice on "building a wardrobe" is almost non-existent (one list of 10 "must-have" items is the sum total). Most of this book is devoted to descriptions of the clothing and retail industries, with long passages describing different types of fabric. Gershman is clearly a fan of haute couture, and much space is spent describing $500 "bargains" (picked up at shops around the world). She does not spend any time discussing color choice, and her idea of accessories is Hermes scarves, Chanel earrings, and fake flowers. She recommends flying yourself to New York twice a year to do your shopping.

If money, practicality, and closet space are not issues for you, you might find this book useful. The rest of us, however, have much better books to choose from. I recommend Linda Dano's "Looking Great," a book so essential to building a good wardrobe that I find myself coming back to it again and again.

An excellent book with plenty of useful advice.
I went shopping today and came back with fabulous stuff that suits me, that I can use, and that was on second markdown -- the ultimate test of this book's usefulness. Gershman obviously has her own sense of style, but I think that the basic principles of her approach to shopping and to creating a wardrobe are applicable (with a little tweaking to account for personal style) to everyone. I liked the fact that she holds unusual vintage items in high regard (I do, too). I just finished Leah Feldon's "Does This Make Me Look Fat?" and liked this book, with its breezy, girlfriend-y tone, much better. And I didn't even notice the cussing.

Excellent Guide
I found Suzy Gershman's book very informative and enlightening in the ways of the fashion industry. Some of her advice is excellent: trying on a collection of clothing BEFORE it goes on sale to see what pieces look good and would be worth buying - tbis is exactly the time-saving advice I need. Other pointers are geared less toward the typical reader - for example, buying incredibly expensive handbags and then never using them, so they remain in pristine condition, is just not an option for many women. But no "How-to" guide is meant to be followed to the letter, and many of the author's tips and fashion "musts" are going to find a way into my wardrobe. After reading this book I feel that I a) know what to look for in clothes in terms of both quality and style, and b) can make informed choices to spend my money more wisely. I liked this book so much, I have recommended it to my style-conscious friends and plan on buying my own copy. (Note to disgruntled reviewers: there's always the library!)
