Recent visitor to New York
As an avid shopper, I bought this book prior to a recent trip to New York. Unfortunately, I found much of the material in the book to be out-of-date. I wasted a lot of time chasing recommendations which the author made. A number of the stores which were recommended were no longer in business or had moved. Several others had new locations much more convenient for visitors (i.e. in the mid-town area), which were not listed in this book. BEWARE, you need to call and check before you make a trip across town!

A terrific book.
How good is this book? I've lived in NYC for 11 years, yet when I read this book I discovered a terrific designer re-sale shop -- get this -- one block from my house. Never noticed it, didn't know it was there, but I'm thrilled to have found it.

Gerhsman has impressed this local New Yorker -- imagine what fun you'll have with her book!

Most informative and extremely helpful
This author should be crowned. She tells you just where all the good shopping is and then gives you a few choices for "mini tours" leading you around NYC on a thrilling shopping experience! For someone who has very little knowledge of NYC and isn't exactly sure how to get around and make sure you go to all the cool shops, I highly recommend it!!

An assortment of articles
This collection of HBR articles on creativity, organization and 'out-of-the-box' stuff is packaged as the HBR on Breakthrough Thinking. Hence, if you are in an exploratory mood to read up various viewpoints of organizational creativity then do pick up this book. But if, you are working in an organization, and what to know what to do to take it through the whole end-to-end innovation journey then this book is only an appetizer. You'll have to catch someone else to serve you the meal.
The book has articles like:
How to kill creativity: The list of no-nos to avoid getting stuck in a rut.

Putting your company's whole brain to work: Looking at the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) of people working together.

An interesting article is "A film director's approach to managing creativity" which could have been very powerfully used. It ends up drawing lame parallels between a movie production and organizational projects and what the corporate world can learn from it.

The masterpiece is as usual, The Discipline of Innovation, by Peter Drucker, as he gives insights as to why some firms can innovate. He classifies them as firms that do process innovations, or capitalising on industry or market changes. OUtside, due to demographic , perception and knowledge changes.

Lots of Good Bits
I have been looking for a book to help me rethink the way I work and this one was recommended by a friend. I bought it and enjoyed especially several of the essays- the one on how movie makers work and think was really good.

Overall this is full of good examples of existing practice. But you need to work with the case studies to see how they might apply.

review for HBR on Breakthrough Thinking
Before reading this book, I thought I was very good at analyzing issues. After reading this book, I realized that some of my analysis should be different. This book is definitely worth it's value. The articles were interesting and enlightening.

Not up to date
Although this was a pretty good book, I wish I had paid attention to the publishing date (1997). Some of the information is not as accurate now as it was 4 years ago. For example, some of the vendors mentioned in San Juan, Puerto Rico (from where I returned just yesterday) are no longer there. This books needs an updated edition!

Very accurate and full of usefull information!
This book is guided towards the cruise passanges but also provides information for those staying on the islands. You can plan ahead with this book. I found great information and plenty of down to earth reading. Don't forget to take this book along during your stay in the Caribbean!

Read It!
What I mostly liked about it was it is funny. This book is about Harry and Songlee getting married on Valentine's Day. Of course you do know that they really don't get married. They called it the kick ball wedding and that's the title of this book. The funniest part, I think, is at the end of the book Horrible Harry at recess didn't finish the wedding because they went and played kick ball; they finished the wedding when they were lining up to go back into the classroom. If they made a sequel to the book, I would think that they would probably sit close together if they got married.

This is an Okay book.
This book is funny and so are the others, this book is a great book for young ones

Like the Title, Book A Little Disappointing
I loved the title of this book but was disappointed in the book itself. The author was diagnosed with Lupus at thirteen and is on megadoses of Prednisone (up to 160 mg/day!) from then on despite being given other immunosuppresants as well. She is a classic over-achiever, expecting herself to get straight A's right up to getting several masters degrees and a doctorate, and often carrying more than a normal course load, despite her disease. She takes a minimal amount of time off when her disease forces her to, but goes right back to work, sometimes even as she lies in bed. She, like many of us with chronic diseases, sees hospitalization as the ultimate defeat. I kept waiting for her to realize that she needed to slow down and take it easier, but she never does! I wonder how much of her hyperness is due to the prednisone, she seems totally unable to rest or relax. At the time she wrote the book she is 32 and has severe osteoporosis that causes ribs to crack and vertebrae to collapse if she moves too sharply. Her height has dropped from 4'10" to 4'7" and she has to wear a back brace, and has muscle weakness from the steroids. but she is still working as a research librarian and writing books in her spare time. This is a somewhat scary book for those of us on long-term prednisone, a real warning of the price we may pay in the long term. However, her courage in facing her difficulties and pursuing her goals despite them, as well as her frank advice on selecting a doctor and dealing with the medical establishment, gives the book some value. Her father being a doctor and her own research bent, mean she is as knowledgeable if not more knowledgeable about lupus than her doctors, and takes a strong role in determining her own treatment.

Smart woman, strong character
This book is highly recommendable for anyone who has to contend with disease and physicians, which is most of us. Suzy Szasz, daughter of the brilliant psychiatrist-philosopher Thomas Szasz, contends with the vicissitudes of health and life intelligently and gracefully. Despite her debilitating condition she isn't debilitated: she doesn't become the obligatory American victim. Some readers will resent her relentless stand against personal adversity since it tilts against the modern American spirit. Others will admire her and take away the unspoken lessons of her quiet courage. You will find no whining in this book and no scapegoating. There is an implicit warning, though: you had better be armed with knowledge before you hand yourself over to the doctors. Your interests may not be identical to theirs

hard to take
The original concept was intriguing and kept me very interested. Even the men sections were deep in imagery. I can still see the lactating women's houses and the milk cakes. But in this book, which I waited a long time to get since it was out of print, and I wanted it very badly, was too brutal. I would share it with very few friends. The characters agonized so much I lost tract of what they were worried about. A map would have helped

hopeful
A hopeful vision of a possible world in which mankind has almost destroyed everything on the planet and in which womankind is trying to survive.

Solving the World's Problems
"The All Better Book" takes about 10 minutes to read, but provokes thought for years thereafter. The book asks school age children how they would solve some of the world's most pressing problems. The answers and insights are humorous.

The simple way children view adult problems reminds us that sometimes the most basic answer is also the best one.

A good How-To book with patterns and templates
Forty-six patchwork patterns with templates and 12 quilting patterns are the heart of this book. Including most of the popular traditional patterns , such as 'Ocean Waves, 'Bear's Paw,' 'Shoo Fly,' and 'Double Irish Chain.' The template are easy to copy and accurate. Suzy Lawson also includes and interesting chapters on Amish quilt colors, border, and backing and binding. Set in typescript so it is sometimes difficult to read, but full of information and the price can't be beat.

I didn't know that!
Excellent value. The "inside" information available in this book will make the next trip to Disney World a saner, more organized event. There's nothing worse than missing out some fun you are entitled to and don't know about. If you stay onsite or in Orlando, the info and tips are relevant for all ages of travellers and for all times of the year. Glad I purchased it.

Sweet book for babies
My 10-month-old daughter loves this book. She loves to look at the colorful pictures, and I love the adorable Little Suzy's Zoo characters. The story is sweet and simple--perfect for a baby or toddler. My daughter also likes to play "peek" through the cut-out cover. The pages are a very sturdy paper. The book loses 1 star because the story doesn't rhyme, and my daughter prefers rhyming books. Still, it's a must have.
