Pilot Logbook and Journal
Change is good! Standard logbooks with those tiny little spaces are now obsolete (not to mention boring). Flywrite Systems broke the mold and created a logbook that not only records flight time, but gives you the space to record every intimate detail of every flight. I love it--no more microscopic shorthand hieroglyphics. The Pilot Logbook and Journal is definitely one of aviation's best kept secrets.

Pilot Journal
This logbook is perfect for flight training and capturing the memories of my flihts. Finally - a logbook with enough room to make notes. I don't have to worry about cramming my comments in such a tiny space anymore! This logbook retains the value of my flights for many years. It's GREAT!

Superb
This logbook is outstandingly versatile, but those of you who use this logbook already know.It is probably aimed at the Flight Instructor level and below but i am an international airline pilot and i still use it primarily because it does give you the opportunity to record for your progenitors sakes, your thoughts of the flight, fellow crew members, the ground staff and even the weather etc.I only wish that instead of Cross Country Received the producers could have put in Sic(second in command) times to make it even more attractive to our fellow professionals. All in all though just to quote"there is no competition to this logbook and a wonderful idea",thanks flywrite.I only wish that i had found this logbook 12 years ago when i was just starting out, many thanks and cheers.

"Stressed? Your cope runneth over"
As the title of this book indicates, this small little book contains 532 quick quips and sayings. Some of them are serious and some of them are quirky and most of them are pretty funny. Well worth quoting! The quoters range from Carrie Fisher to Pennsylvania Dutch Sayings to anonymous quoters. Oh and a few are from bumper stickers! And quite a few from the author himself. And I wish I had said them, too. The problem with having a book like this is that it makes me realize how unwitty I am...

But then, I can always quote somebody else. :)

Very good, nice layout
Thought the book was great. Needs more quips! I guess I'll wait for QQQII

Absolutely superb Book!
We really enjoyed the quips they represent a great culmination of sayings by the very best thinkers.

Good Book Joni

Put your nostalgia in context!
If you are like me, you grew up listening to popular music, "girl groups" singing catchy melodies, without regard to the cultural or historical context of the tunes. Dorothy Marcic, in a well-researched and documented, highly readable book, has succeeded in placing our nostalgic memories into a larger framework. The political picture, the economic realities, the evolution of female roles are all chronicled by incorporating the popular music that enthralled us over the years. Who knew that the path from "My Man" to "I Will Survive" led us along our own path of liberation and independence. A book that entertains and makes you think at the same time! If you ever get the opportunity to see Dr. Marcic perform and illustrate her material in person, by all means do so! Highly recommended!

An incredible synthesis!
Whether our popular music is a reflection or shaper of culture, it's fascinating to read the lyrics of these songs -- and to see how far we've come over the past century. I really like the way that music is used as a thread for weaving together political and world events, as well as psychology, business, and spirituality. A great read!

Respect: Women and Popular Music
Respect: Women and Popular Music is a powerful book that chronicles the best known music of women in the 20th Century and examines the sociological and personal implications the music had. Marcic masterfully weaves a relationship between the development of the music and the development of women over the century. From the early 1900s, the lyrics of dependency eventually evolve into the powerful lyrics of independence and resolve heard in the late century.

A particularly effective feature of the book is the use of personal rememberances about the music. These diverse reflections show how the music enters our hearts and minds -- our consciousness and unconsciousness. This technque further shows how the music not only reflects our roles, but may powerfully influence our roles and may even empower, motivate and affirm us toward change.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to take a deeper and different look at the development of women and their roles. It presents a new and refreshing perspective, not shown before in the literature about women.

After having finished book and being a person who grew up in the fifties and came of age in the sixties, I have to wonder how did we as women ever get past the music messages that we grew up with and become the trailblazers of the women movement?

Pride and prejudice...
Pride and prejudice would also have been a fitting name for this story. Poor Logan spent his entire life being shunned by the white people, because of his Indian blood. Labeled a half-breed, he's constantly given a cruel reception everywhere he goes. Then one rainy night he shows up at Rosalee's home, needing shelter for his dying mother.

From then on, the two are drawn to each other... and Logan finds the one person in his life that didn't even consider his heritage or the consequences of their romance.

As much as Logan wants to give into the love he has for Rosalee, he doesn't want her to live to resent him, when she is surely shunned by the white people. Rosalee must fight through the stubborness of Logan, and show him he does want to give into his feelings.

In addition, Logan and Rosalee - along with Rosalee's siblings and father, are suddenly facing serious danger by the huge landowner of the town. Logan has his own reasons for taunting this landowner and purchasing the land bordering his, that he so desperately wants for himself. Mr. Clayhill, the landowner, will stop at nothing to get what he wants... and the townspeople simply look away, not wanting to get involved and endanger their own family.

From beginning to end, it's almost impossible to see a way out for Logan and Rosalee... each small victory is overshadowed by a much bigger price. Along the way, they make some unlikely friends... including Cooper Parnell, who will prove to be much more to them by the end.

Rosalee and Logan are wonderful characters, and I loved reading this story. Rosalee Spurlock is sweet and beautiful and loving. Logan Horn is strong and handsome, but emotionally vulnerable under the surface.

I was thrilled to see the next book in this trilogy will be the story of Cooper Parnell.

Heartfelt Romance
Yummy. Absolutely yummy. I sat down one day with a blanket and coffe and just didn't stop reading. I maneged to fall in love with Logan while I was at it. Wonderful charactors, wonderful book.

A wild romp through the old West.
When Logan, a half-breed, finds his way to Rosalie's doorstep carrying his dying mother in his arms, she can hardly refuse, and she's drawn to him even then. Later, when he arrives at her door bloody and beaten by a Adam Cahill's henchmen, she cares for him. Logan was resigned to living alone, his indian blood made him a target, but Rosalie found her way into his heart, and was determined to stay by his side, no matter what the townspeople said. With unwavering courage and a group of loyal friends, Rosalie and Logan would face the challenge of their lives when he's accused of attacking Adam Cahill's beautiful, deceitful stepdaughter, Della. I really enjoyed this book more than the following stories Wayward Wind and Wind of Promise. The author showed how people can come together in the face of prejudice and injustice. I especially liked the fiesty Minnie, one of the supporting characters.

This is the smart choice in this category!
The 'smart question' to ask is "Why am I looking at these types of books?" If the answer is to improve your ability to get more out of your meetings, interviews, negotiations, and communications with everyone at any level (internal and external to your organization), this is the book to buy by far. I've read many self-help communications books and this one really gets to the heart of the matter -- ask and you shall receive; ask the right question(s) and you'll get what you want/deserve. It was an easy and enjoyable read that gets you engaged from the first chapter (unlike so many other books that take 5 chapters to explain what they're to accomplish). The quizzes really provide helpful and immediate feedback. You can read from cover to cover or use as a reference. Either way, this book gives you tools to use right away. You'll carry this one around with you until you've mastered the technique.

You won't be disappointed (as I have with so many other books of this kind). This one is a winner, hands down!

One of the BEST communication tools!
Dorothy Leeds skillfully addresses the problem that we all seem to have in communication---asking the right question. She takes you through asking yourself what it is you're trying to achieve, and then helps you think about how to formulate an effective "query" to receive your answer. She says (and I agree) that next to the effective use of silence, asking 'smart questions' is the second most powerful communication tool that there is. Anyone who wishes to communicate effectively and powerfully should own a copy of this book, keep it close by, and study its depth. HIGHLY recommended for those in the Health Sciences field.

Powerful exploration of role of good questions in success
Excellent handbook on how to frame and use questions to gain commitment, resolve problems, develop creative solutions, and respond to different personality types. Clear examples of how good questions can impact results and meet personal goals. A must read for anyone who feels the best way to get results is to tell people what they need to do.

A Newer Version of This Book Exists
First of all, my rating is biased--I'm the son and colleague of the authors. But the purpose of this "review" isn't to promote the book. It is to let you know that the publisher, AMACOM, has published a newer, more accessible edition of this book entitled "People Styles at Work." That book was originally planned to replace "Social Style/Management Style," but both remain in print. My personal opinion is the the newer work is more user-friendly: it was streamlined to help readers better relate with colleagues of other styles. That said, "Social Style/Management Style" has been well received for nearly 20 years and has been translated into many languages. Either one is useful, but if you buy both books, you'll find a lot of redundancy.

Great Book
Assigning someone to one of the four social style quadrants does not provide a complete picture of an individual, as the authors would be the first to admit, but social styles do provide a convenient and useful starting point for understanding your own and others behavior. The book also contains much practical advice for improving relationships and your own effectiveness within the context of the social style theory. Social Style/Management Style is a great little book. However, Bolton and Bolton's later book on styles, People Styles at Work, contains much of the same material and more.

Social style/management style
This is an excellent tool to use in any business that will enable anyone to communicate better with colleagues. It gives you information and cues that will help to better deal with many different types of people in the business sector. I use this book, and actually came across it in a Masters (Human Resources) Course, many years ago, and its contents are still very valuable to me. I keep referring back to its theories. But, its use isn't for the work place only, as it is helpful for communicating in intimate relationships, as well. Happy reading!

hauntingly evocative of summertime in the south
I have always loved the song "Summertime," which my mother used to sing to my family when I was growing up. This book adds new layers of meaning to the song, with gorgeous illustrations depicting an African-American family living in the South. This is currently one of my thirteen-month-old daughter's top three favorite books, although it is not intended for her age group. She responds intensely to the images of the children in the swimming hole, the grandfather sleeping in his hammock, the mother baking an apple pie, and especially the last page where the baby is learning how to walk on the front porch. Although I have sung this book aloud to our daughter at least 100 times, I always look forward to singing it one more time. It's an absolute treasure.

fantastic illustrations capture the experience of summer
I was completely charmed by the paintings in this book. They were skillfully done, and depict the summertime of an African-American family in the south. Very warm pictures of family life.

A Hit With Children
I am a second grade teacher who read this story to a group of second graders last fall. The students also had an opportunity to listen to the Louie Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald jazz rendention of the song. My students love the story and frequently read it along with the CD. I like the beautiful illustrations that accompany the story lyrics. The author did a wonderful job of combining vibrant illustrations with music lyrics to tell a wonderful story.

Terrific Trees
I learned many different things about trees in this book. I can name all of the trees on my block by looking at their leaves. I liked that I got to finish the book by filling in the blank pages. Now when I ride my bike or ride in the car, I want to look up a tree that I don't know in my book when I get home. It's a great way to get research information for science.

Katherine, 10

Leaves, leaves, everywhere!
From roots to leaves, this book covers it all! Take A Tree Walk helps you understand different kinds of trees, how they grow, and even how their color changes. Everyone would love the fun to-do pages in the book, the silly tree riddles, and will love learning more about the trees in your own yard. This book is perfect for the whole family.

Caroline, Age 12

A Fabulous Gift Book!
My wife and I have given this book (and Kirkland's Take a Backyard Bird Walk) to several of the kids on our gift list. We can't think of a better way to encourage children to go outside and find their own adventures! Even better, we've learned so much about our own backyard birds and trees!

The Best Kids Book for Christmas
This was the best Christmas book of my childhood. Such great stories as: Granny Glitens and Her Amazing Mittens, Christmas for Bears and, my favorite: Giant Grummers Christmas. (...) Get it!

A wonderful Christmas compilation!
I loved this book as a child, and would like to find copies to give to my children, nieces, nephews, and others. The book is tall and narrow in shape, thus the title, and contains many Christmas stories that are fun to read over and over each Christmas season. The Giant Grummer, Granny Glittens and the Amazing Mittens, Christmas through the Knothole all spring to mind though I haven't seen the book in 20 years! I hope someone will republish this wonderful collection!

A Childhood Must-Have for Christmas
The Tall Book of Christmas was THE book of my childhood during christmas season. I can still (at almost 35) recite some of the words. I would highly recommend anyone to buy it. Its a really wonderful piece of creative, imaginative, and diverse children's literature. I own it, I'd buy it again and I think that this book is timeless. Stories are all well suited for children and adults don't lose interest when reading it. We read it over and over until the pages were worn. I wish mom had bought two copies when they were in print. Buy it no matter the price. Its PRICELESS!!!

Historical romance with 1902 Tennessee setting
Set in 1902, this wonderful historical romance story about Wade and Jesse is both endearing and highly entertaining. Wade, falls in love with Jesse at first sight, and finally gets the chance to be near the Nurse and Doctors daughter, when he is needed to escort her through the hills to visit children sick from the scarlet fever. This is Jesse's first experience with the notorious bad guy, and she is surprised to find he is a kind and honest man, with a lot of pride. When a madman goes through town sneaking in the homes of young women of the town, all fingers point at Wade as the criminal. Along the way, as in real life, other events take place to harm their chances of staying together, and the happiness of themselves and those they care about. This book has a little of everything, and I just loved it! Now I'm out of Dorothy Garlock books, so I will anxiously await the release of her new book, "High on the Hill" this summer.

another great one by Ms. Garlock
This is a wonderful book, true to Dorothy Garlock's form. She writes in such a way that makes you feel like you personally know her characters. Judith McNaught is the same way. If you loved "Tenderness" and haven't read Dorothy Garlock's books she wrote set during the depression, "With Hope" "With Heart" "With Song" and "After the Parade" (I believe that is the correct order) do give them a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. "Ribbon in the Sky" and "More than Memory" are equally as notable. Dorothy Garlock is one of the best authors out there today.

Another great book
This book is different then most other Garlock books, it takes place at the turn of the 20th century. Jesse and Wade must over come many obsticles to find happiness including narrow-minded townspeople, criminal accusations, and Wade's pride. Wade's love and protection of Jesse is very touching. This is a fantastic book!
