THIS IS THE WAKE-UP CALL...
This is the wake-up call for Christians who want to
have a REAL walk with a REAL GOD.

Generally speaking, "institutionalized christianity" does
not cut it. This book spells out the reasons why and where
American churchianity has often missed God and HIS will.

If this book does not stir something deep in our soul:
you likely need to get [for REAL] converted.

A Wake Up Call For 21st Century Christianity
In a world where 'Christians' are talking about getting rich and making the 'Gospel' a tool to pad their bank accounts, Michael Brown gives a clarion call to stop and wake up! The Word promises what it will cost to follow the savior and this book will paint a little bit of a different picture than you might receive by watching Christian television. God is looking for warriors who would be willing to follow Him at ANY cost. This book is a must read for both those in ministry and those desiring to live for the King

Interested in Revival? A must read!
I have been a skeptic about non-conformist activities usually sighted at so-called revivals. This book has convicted me of not being "ready" to receive Jesus Christ, even though I thought I was "born again", and in every way, a practicing, serving Christian. Well written, well researched, but easy to read. This book is one of those few things that might well be life changing! A must read for those who are searching for Christ's coming.

Excellent treatise on the need for, the glories of revival
Dr. Brown gives a soul stirring treatise of the need for revival in our society. Taking past occurances and past revivalists he shows how we are so lacking today. He points out the glories and the pitfalls of the manifestations of revival as well. Makes you want to read more.

Must read for hiking Kentucky
I echo the previous review. This book is very informative, well written, and very comprehensive with discussions on 79 hikes. For anybody interested in the overwhelmingly beautiful and dynamic landscapes of the Commonwealth, follow the suggestions in this book.

A Fine Guide to Kentucky Hiking
Michael Brown's new book on hiking in Kentucky is a well-written, highly informative addition to the short library of must-have books on the outdoors in Kentucky. He's hiked all the trails described himself, and provides good detail with small maps in the book, and GPS coordinates as well. He's a former reporter for the Courier-Journal, and it shows in the clear, engaging prose.

I field-tested the book this weekend with a hike in the Rockcastle Narrows. The descriptions and directions were fully accurate, and the book described clearly some of the route finding challenges on this particular trail.

Highly recommended.

Literally redefines healing in the Hebrew Bible/O.T.
Drawning on a depth of learning in Biblical Hebrew, Brown demonstrates how the key Hebrew terms for healing have been systematically and almost universally mistranslated and misunderstood by Biblical scholars and most existing Bibles. From this linguistic evidence, Brown reinterprets Biblical healing in a radical fashion. Absolutely essential for anyone studying healing in the Bible. (Some serious students and scholars may be surprised at the portrait of Jesus on the cover of a book labelled as an "Old Testament" study, but not to worry. Brown is a meticulous scholar. The footnotes alone--more than a hundred pages--are worth the price of the book.)

A brilliant and comprehensive statement of God as Healer
Steeped in Hebrew scholarship and Christian appreciation of healing, Brown challenges much of Old Testament scholarship about the meaning of healing as a word and concept. Yahweh as the source of all healing becomes a prominent theme in the Hebrew Bible, which then turns into a flood of healing in the New Testament.

A TIME TO KILL
NICK FRANCISCO PERIOD 2

"A Time to Kill" is John Grisham's first novel. His fluid, detailed storytelling is unlike the choppy first attempts of many modern authors. In a small town in the Deep South, two redneck hooligans rape and maim a ten-year-old black girl. Enraged, the girl's father, Carl Lee Hailey, takes justice into his own hands, killing the two rapists in a courthouse shooting. He seeks the help of defense lawyer Jake Brigance to save him from the gas chamber.

Brigance, a young but sharp lawyer, has to find a way to win an impossible case: a black man is on trial for killing two white men, and his case is being heard by an all-white jury. Adding to the mix are violence between the Ku Klux Klan and the black community, and the fact that, during the shooting, Carl Lee had injured a sheriff's deputy.

When I first read this novel, I was angered and irritated by the depth of hatred that exists within racism. I was angered that had Carl Lee been a white man bent on avenging his daughter's suffering, he would never have had to face trial. The rape of ten year old Tanya, Carl Lee's daughter, by Billy Ray and Pete, A Time to Kill is a disturbing novel, aside from the raping and killing that opens the tale. It is not possible to look at our justice system the same way, especially from the viewpoint of the black community in the South.

this is SO cool
John Grisham is of course my favorite author, and this is the perfect collector's item of sorts because it gives you all of his best books...in audio! If you listen to all his books, it just makes them come more alive and real, and it's just terrific.

Power/Holiness/Evangelism: Rediscovering God's Purity, Power
I purchased this book as a second thought, and found out I got more than I bargained for. The level of expertise and experience with God impressed me initially, but it was the depth of each topic presented by each of the authors that shocked me. When dealing with God and spiritual subjects in books, there are so many approaches, and many that are really weird, but in this book the contributing authors do much to show by scriptures and experience the reality of the need for the church to be seeking God's power, holiness, and evangelistic outreach to the human race. This is not a book of testimonies alone, but scriptures and the reality of the topics listed in the title. Another book that assisted me in certain sections of this book was I Give You Authority by Charles Kraft. Though much different in subject, it assisted me in understanding some things that are occurring in the South American churches. I highly recommend this book for one's bookself, not only for reading, but as a text book for what is happening in Christianity today.

Unity and Passion for God
The chapters are written by individuals from various backgrounds who are sensing the Holy Spirit drawing them into a closer relationship with God. This purity of heart has been documented in past and present revivals around the world.

Tempest in a Teapot
This novel begins as a retelling of Shakespeare's The Tempest. I can honestly say that I identified with the main character in that part of the story very much. The other two parts of the story have female protagonists, and I didn't identify with them as much. As an amateur computer programmer, my imagination was captured by the idea that a putterer with a fresh approach might be the first human to contact aliens.

I very much agree with the reviewer who used words like "loopy" and "quirky"; however, I enjoyed the parts about theoretical physics. All in all, I love this book. I think anyone who enjoys the works of Thomas Berger, Kurt Vonnegut, Charles Portis, or for that matter Shakespeare would probably enjoy this book. The book is also accessorized by a jewel-like website, qualiens.com.

This Guy Can Write!
I loved this book! To categorize it as science fiction is to define it too narrowly. Though it is about aliens -the quirky and inscrutable Qua- it's also about real life and love and Big Boggle and books and lots of entertaining stuff. You might want to take the author's advice and skip pages 13 through 16, unless you're the kind of person who reads physics textbooks for fun. But after that it's all snappy dialogue, wit, word play, and a cast of loopy characters who are all heading toward some, as yet unrealized, collision with each other. I can hardly wait for part II to be published. In the meantime, those who like part I can communicate with the author on his website.

Wonderful!
This is a great book that does what it says--it takes you step-by-step through the art of "realistic" (representational) collage. The author describes the various media (mostly paper, but also metal & fabric) for the finished collage and the different ways to adhere those media. The book also contains a section on other methods of achieving realistic collage by looking at other artists' work. It's definately worth the money if you enjoy collage.

Fabulous collage ideas!
Originally saw this book while visiting the artist's gallery in Maine. It is attractive, concise and FULL of ideas for tons of projects. The book does a great job of inviting people to use their own creativity while giving them guidance and support. I would recommend it to both beginners and advanced collage artists.

Calming
For all the people of the earth, the Creator has planted a sacred Tree, under which they may gather to find healing, power, wisdom and security. Its roots spread deeply into Mother Earth, its branches reach to Father Sky. Its fruits are the good things that our Creator has given to all peoples, the path to love, compassion, generosity, patience, wisdom, justice, courage, respect, humility and other great gifts.

The life of the Tree rests with life of the people, but if they forget to take its nourishment, many would grow sick at heart, lie, quarrel, and abuse the land, poisoning everything they touch. The people would be as in sleep, to awaken again to their search for the Tree, whose knowledge rests with the elders. I find this an especially calming and beautiful book for these terrible times.
