great book
This is a wonderful book for children. My one year old has had a great time learning opposites with the colorful pictures and imaginative pop-ups, flaps and pull tabs. Some parental supervision is required if you want the book to stay in good shape.

Great first book to teach "opposites"
This is a great book for teaching the concept of opposites. By the time babies are 1-year-old they are helping to pull the tabs and open the envelope. "Open ... closed". "Few ... many". "Full ... Empty". "Short ... long". "Down ... up". It's fun, it's interactive, and the color photos are easy for even young babies to focus on.

NOTE TO AMAZON.COM Why is this book listed as reading level "4-8"?

Aptly named...
If there is only one book about cycling you should own - then this is it!

Everyone who owns a bike should get this, especially if you're just starting out. It is really what got me started off, now I own my ultimate dream machine and I still refer to it now and then. You see so many riders out there with incorrectly set up bikes. The three things I can notice from about 100 feet away are: their seat is too low; their chain is insufficiently lubricated; and the derailleurs are not adjusted properly. This book will teach you how to set up your bike correctly, and provide you with essential knowledge on cycling.

This has all the info in it for beginners and intermediates alike. The main sections are: mountain bikes, racing bikes and touring bikes, future bikes and cycle maintenance. Within these pages, you'll find info about bike set-up/positioning, sizing of frames, clothing, riding techniques, racing and stretching. Plus more info on other specific bike parts, such as: frame construction, types of wheels, gears/brakes, etc. Also specific info about various types of bikes used in: observed trials, the tour de France, criterium races, time¨Ctrials, triathlons, track racing (& classic bikes).

The maintenance section is quite extensive, and will generally be adequate for most people's needs. It covers tools (and there's a lot!), wheel truing, fixing flat tires, adjustments for comfort, brakes, chains, pedals, derailleur adjustment, and cleaning/lubrication.

There are plenty of good colour photos, it is well written and very informative - what more could you ask for? If you haven't actually flicked through this book and you're still having doubts about getting it, go to your local bookshop and just have a look through it, you'll see what I mean. All in all a very comprehensive guide to cycling - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for youngsters and/or beginners.

Best photo/character book of the bicycle
This book has the best most diverse photos of bicycles of any ever. Also some fine writing and insights. The only big photo spread I've ever seen on road-side emergency repairs. Bravo! Also plenty of coverage of bicycle alternatives, which diversity is what bikes are all about in the first place. Bravo again! This book should be kept in print, in libraries nationwide. Richard's Best Book, 2nd ed, should also have never been let go (it has the best bike ART in any book).

Inspires the not so avid reader to sit down and browse...
My 10 yr. old son brought this book home from the library and loved it. The graphics are second to none and the labels and short captioned boxes of text encouraged him to read several excerpts. The broad range of equipment covered is intriguing even to an adult. It is educational for the young reader to identify vehicles they've read about in school but never visualized. This book will be under our Christmas tree AND under the tree of a nephew who loves figuring out how things work!

This is Spicy Baby
My grandmother taught me how to use herbs and spices and I also read up on how to use them as a kind of hobby. This is one of the cutest little books and it is just packed with information.

If there was just information on spices, it would not be as interesting. Here, they include wonderful recipes. First you get a "Spice Know-How" lesson to help you figure out what spices really are, how to dry-roast them and the best ways to store them.

The Spice Profiles section shows you say how to use saffron to bring out the most flavor or how to make chili oil. They also have info on paprika, cassia, cinnamon, turmeric, lemongrass (divine!) and cardamom.

Then for the recipes! You will find Far East, Indian, North African, Middle Eastern, European, American and Caribbean treats!

I have totally been looking for a Thai Shrimp Soup with Lemongrass recipe! No lies. There is was, just waiting for me to discover it. I have to mail order the lemon grass and it keeps very well in the freezer. The scent of lemongrass is so lovely.

Other recipes you might enjoy:

Beef Curry - always a favorite
Chicken Satay with Peanut dipping sauce
Mixed Vegetable Curry
Moroccan Spicy Chicken
Venison with Green Peppercorns
Bolivia Corn Pie
Jerked Chicken

I was quite surprised with the variety of recipes and the gourmet pictures. If you have not yet discovered the joys of a mortar & pestle, this it the time to buy one! So, if the only time you get interested in spices is during Thanksgiving and Christmas...

Baby, are you missing out! Spices and Herbs will make your cooking rock!

Naomi Gesinger's review cracks me up! I didn't see any
Spice Girls in this book either.

Super!
This is a nice reference guide for all ages. I have a 4 year old who is VERY interested in nature and I bought this book to aid myself and her in identifying various birds that we run across. It is perfect for an adult as well as children. There are plenty of pictures that even a child who cannot read, can still understand.
