A preschool classroom standout
In my preschool classroom of 4 year olds this book is the VERY favorite of all the boys. In fact, after about 6 months it is falling apart through considerable use and I need to order another. They huddle around it on the floor and pour over the pictures talking excitedly and naming all the cars, planes etc. A few children have shown it to their moms and asked to have one at home. You won't miss if you get this one!

A must for children who like wheels
This book was and continues to be a favorite of my two sons (ages 2 and 5). Each page includes several clear, colorful photographs of all types of vehicles on land, sea and air. Short descriptions of their use or how they move are included. Not recommended as a bedtime story though, since it can be quite stimulating.

Brief text, bright pictures of both comon & extreme machines
A nice book for younger children (maybee 2-5 years) with big bright pictures of common and "extreme" machines including boats, cars, construction, emergency, planes, trains and more.

The text for each picture is concise and to the point - keeps things fast paced.

A great book to start your baby and toddler learning ABC's
This series of board books are fantastic.

I started collecting these for my daughter after she was given one at 6 months and this is what we started to read to her every night. She woud sit and demand it to be read over and over and over again. The board pages and are easy for baby and toddler to turn and the pictures (real photography not illustrations) are wonderful.

The ABC book is simple to read to your baby and each letter has several items beginning with that letter.
If your looking for a great picture book to share with your baby this is the one (and the series of books) to buy. You can never have too many books to read with your children.

this is my 15 month olds favorite book
This book is great because the pictures are actualphotographs. A great learning tool. My son gets this book off theshelf all the time and he is learning to identify many things in the book.

wonderful for beginning talkers
my twins love this book and the others in this series. their vocabulary has greatly increased and they are delighted with their knowledge. perfect for the two year old in your life.

Essential
Absolutely essential book for every woman to own. Purse sized, easy to read in one sitting, with terrific pictures and illustrations. Exercise tips, advice on doctors, disease, everyday problems, this little book has it all. Wonderfully detailed self-examination portion, easy to understand. Explanations of just how breasts work, what's normal; what's not. A keeper.

Breast Knowledge
For the busy modern woman, this book presents the facts quickly! There is great awareness when it comes to Breast Cancer, but where can you find the information you really need to make your personal life better?

This book includes information on:

Breast Anatomy
Developing Breasts
Size, Shape and Support
A Healthy Lifestyle
The Sensual Breast
Pregnancy & Breast-Feeding
Caring for Your Breasts
Benign Breast Changes
Breast Cancer
Treating Cancer
Life After Treatment
Cosmetic Surgery

I was very surprised to see that alcohol is said to sometimes indirectly cause breast cancer. Women who smoke are also at greater risk for breast problems. For women who are breast feeding, there is an interesting section on how milk is secreted from the blackberry shaped alveoli.

Nice compact book on Breast Health.

Addresses the needs of the caregiver...
If someone close to you has become sick, disabled or aging is taking its toll, then the Visiting Nurse Association of America offers their advice on how to be a more effective caregiver. They realize that you also need support when providing care to others.

The first chapter explains how you can become a caregiver, the benefits of home care, how your relationship will change, how you should take time for yourself, how to understand how you are feeling and asks: "Are you coping?"

Home Hygiene, healthy eating, bed comfort, maintaining mobility, personal care, wound care, facing death, emergency care and communication is discussed in detail.

There are step-by-step photographs to show you how to change someone's position in bed or how to use a hair washing tray for those who are flat on their backs in bed. Since you will need to order supplies for home care, a complete section of useful addresses also includes Web site information.

There were a few items I had never thought of. If you are pushing someone in a wheelchair, you might want to lower the chair backwards down a stair as the occupant could fall out of the chair and even if you had tilted the chair backwards, it could become unstable. They also show how you can adapt a bathroom for someone who would otherwise need help and installing various items can help you save time.

There is a chart which explains the stages of grief. First you will go through denial, then anger and finally acceptance. Allowing yourself to go through these stages can be very healing and during the unsettling time of a death, you will take these steps, even as a caregiver. There are many sidebars with "case studies" which show how the advice can be used in real life.

A patients bill of rights is included. A glossary of medical conditions helps to explain a few main illnesses. Through reading this book you will gain more information on caregiving skills and how to administer emergency and calming care.

If you feel a bit of anxiety about caregiving, this book will give you many answers to your questions and put your mind at ease.

Helpful and Practical!
An extremely useful reference for safely caring for the sick or the elderly. Practical suggestions for everything from eyedrops to incontinence, including excellent illustrations of techniques and equipment. I've recommended it to several people.

An excellent resource of French culinary techniques for all!
Le Cordon Bleu Classic French Cookbook is excellent in its content and presentation. The beautiful photography details the cookery techniques essential to the success of French cuisine. The recipes' format is complete and international in appeal. I like the use of both US and metric measurements. The side text offer interesting historical insights into each recipe. I have had the previlege of studying cooking as a hobby with renowned teachers at prestigious cooking schools in both New York City and Mexico. As I have a predilection for cooking and love entertaining at home, I am always looking for new opportunities to increase my knowledge and expertise in the kitchen. This cookbook will transport any reader right into the "classroom" of the prestigious cooking school of Le Cordon Bleu.

Very Handy
This pocketful of knowledge will answer questions like:

How many countries are there in the world?
Who were the first humans on the Moon?
What is the speed of light?

With this in hand, you have a miniature reference library crammed with key facts about:

Science: scientific milestones, the periodic table, scientific units, light, sound, food and nutrition.

Mathematics: number systems, arithmetic, geometry, angles and circles, weights and measures, conversion tables and speed.

Humans: human body, spoken word, written word, religious systems, sports, the arts and calendars.

Our World: the night sky, sun and moon, the planets, earth, time zones, water and climate zones.

Politics: political worlds, world's nations, American states, world resources, rulers and leaders, and major wars.

There are also conversion tables to measurements used in cooking that made me like this even more! The section on world nations includes the flag, country, capital, population, currency, official language and square miles for each. There is a nice mini-index to help you look up the desired fact.

Really handy!

GO! GRAB IT
Internet, powered by helpful search engines, spews out all the innards of information at the flick of a button. At least that is what we have been led to believe. The reality, however, is quite different. You are immediately presented with such a multitude of choices that you are more confused than when you started your search. Put a ten year old in your place and try to imagine his condition in the face of this bombardment of information. Conclusion: when it comes to looking for plain facts and practical info, nothing can outdo the good old general knowledge books. `Pockets: Essential Facts' has the right ingredients, which make such books interesting among young readers. It has some great colourful graphics, pictures and maps; just enough introductory material; interesting fact boxes and the right kind of topics - all arranged in an appropriate, handy size. This is the type of book, which a child would love to carry to all sorts of places - school, picnic, summer camps, and then start off an impromptu quiz show! The book, which appears to be surprisingly small and thin, indeed contains everything to whet a child's appetite for basic facts. All essential subjects, ranging from the solar system to world religion, to mathematics are covered in six sections such as the world around political world, the technology, science, mathematics, people and us. The graphics are superb and they fill in for the need of lengthy explanations. The three dimensional graphics such as `Inside the Earth' and `Earth's Atmosphere,' with their logical colour schemes and appropriate annotations, make things simple and interesting for the young readers. The graphic titled `Animal Speeds' presents comparison of different animal speeds in the most lucid manner. We learn that human beings bring up the rear both on land and in the water. The tables and diagrams, which are many, make the data more accessible and easier to absorb. The mathematical, geometric and scientific rules and formulae come in handy for the student. Other topics of interest are chapters on human body, the arts, calendars communications and sign language. The fact boxes, which adorn many pages, can be of great interest for the adult readers as well. So, while the child is trying to make sense of the conversion tables or the anatomy of a circle, the parents can mull over the fact box sidelights, such as, `30% of people in Western countries are overweight, and about 5% of them are obese,' or ` the largest shopping centre in the world, West Edmonton mall, Alberta, Canada, is as big as 90 football fields.' This book is what every student should possess.

Eyewitness Travel Guides: Warsaw
Just recently returned from Poland and Warsaw. Found the guide very good after the fact for puting together a pictorial of my visit. Could not remember all the sites I had seen but the book had them all. I wish I had purchased this book before my visit, it would have helped immensely. Covers with history and detailed descrpitions of every possible thing that you would care to see and visit.

Another Great Book by DK Eyewitness
Spent two years and Europe and can only wish they had these books for every major city. But about Warsaw - excellent detail, highlights, and places to visit along with hotel listing. The highlighted area are so well documented and photographed you may not need to take pictures of everything you see (especially the photo areas). But the detailed/cut-out section maps of certain structures/features get you there quickly instead of having to search around and wasting time. This book will save you time and energy looking for items that are only "written" - (i.e Fodor's) ex - such as in the back corner of this building there is a statue from the 12th century. That doesn't do much when there are 5 statues and the book doesn't tell you which one. DK shows exactly where is it and detailed info about. The walking tours are highly encouraged. Well worth it. The maps and restaurants sections are somewhat outdated but with changes occurring everyday in Poland/Eastern Europe - you can't fault the publishers. Street names change as new building are constructed or just renamed to replace former communists name. For the hotel section - may not be the most detail but I tell you what - you get a name, location and price range - anything else get on the Internet and do a search on your hotel and that should complete all travel arrangements. Had no problems staying in the hotels listed in this book - even with the lower 2 star hotels. The publishers do their homework when it comes to hotels (but if you want more detail - the Internet is there) Will never use another tour book again - DK is the only way to go. And you'll see about 70% of other visitors using these books - even other Europeans visitors to Warsaw. Top notch!

There's No Place Like Home
Another beautiful production from English publisher Dorling Kindersley, "Open House" features sumptuous, action-packed illustrations, a pithy text, and more than 90 durable flaps revealing the interiors of eight different historical structures: A Roman sidewalk and upstairs house, its 19th century American West counterpart, a 15th Century Scottish tower, an 18th century "Country Mansion" (in the Roman style), a 19th century French farmhouse, a mid-nineteenth century Japanese home, and (from the 17th century) a French farmhouse and a Dutch home. Three of the eight illustrations are two-page spreads, including the tall Scottish tower.

Daily life is described briefly, and the flaps open to show more detail about the various occupants and their use of each building. Open one of the tower flaps, for example, and you see the Scottish lord's servants and soldiers eating in the great hall, and read that meals were "served on a slice of stale bread, instead of a plate." Peer inside the French farmhouse to view a boy lifting a heavy sack of grain, or find the patchwork quilt in the house above the Old West general store. The slim book provides a snapshot of both the delights and the hardships of life in earlier times. This is an excellent book to explore for fans of flaps, history, architecture, and culture.

Open House
This is a terrific book. It has so much detail behind each "lift-the-flap" that each reading shows something missed before. From a "Roman Street" house to a western "American Store" each page is interesting, factual, and entertaining. I have been searching for another book like this for years! My kids' favorite page has always been the "Scottish Tower" from the 1500's that shows the "bathroom facilities"!
Enjoy.
