Loyalists in the American Revolution

Average review score:

An essential reference book regarding loyalists.
One of the first and, I believe, one of the best comprehensive studies of American loyalists. Certainly an important starting point for anyone seriously interested in studying loyalism. It's clear and to the point. It also manages to avoid sentimentalizing its subjects

A Gnostic Enlightener!
The book clearly goes to show that St. Martin is taking a gnostic stand when it comes to how he looks at this world, compared to the other world, or the material and the spiritual world. As he writes:

This world, where we believe we are, but are not. The other world, where we believe we are not, but where we actually are.

He goes on to describe the fallen state of both this world, and the fall of man, and the importance of work and methods of how to regain the primordial divine grace, how to be a Gods minister while on earth, etc.

For the sincere Martinist will I warmly recommend this book, it's probably one of his best works.

Sincerely

Paal E. Vevle

Mauprat - The Best George Sand Book Ever!
Mauprat is a novel about uncultured Bernard who rescues the beautiful Edmee de Mauprat. Bernard falls in love with Edmee, and Edmee's father thinks of Bernard as his son. He wants Bernard and Edmee to be together, but because Edmee feels superior to Bernard, she cannot allow herself to love him. She tries to educate Bernard and teach him manners. Once that is done, Edmee begins to love Bernard. This book has a very interesting theme of a women's superiority to a man. I highly recommend it! It was one of my favorite George Sand novels, and it is interesting because it is told my the perspective of eldery Bernard looking back on his life. Read this book!

A Gem in Time!
I found this excellent translation from the original French to be a most authoritative and lucid treatment of the physics and metrology of time on a superior technical level, by two of the most prominent figures in the field. It gives comprehensive coverage of atomic frequency standards including the most recent advances involving cold atoms and trapped ions, such as the the cesium "fountain" and mercury ion standards. I consider this book essential reading for anyone with an ambition to become steeped in the field, and offers a more technically sophisticated treatment than is attempted, for example, in a book such as "Quantum Beat".

Gorgeous and unusual take on flowers
This is an absolutely stunning book visually - from a purely aesthetic point of view, and as documentation of the way flowers change from bud to demise. There is also some interesting text accompanying, and a number of lovely poems and quotes.

For anyone who is a flower lover, a lover of nature, or a photographer, this book is a "can't go wrong" Also makes a great and unusual gift.

The Complete How-To Mime Book
A complete book for one wanting to learn the art of mime. Profusely illustrated with student exercises, it starts by isolating individual parts of the body and showing their range of expression. It then combines body parts and actions to build a complete mime vocabulary. All the tools of the mime are explored and explained -- pressure, immobility, contact, manipulation, reaction, walks, climbs, water, and wind. Theory is kept to sidebar boxes, so the student can study them at leisure. The book finishes with chapters on improvisation and the history of mime.
