What a great asset
My wife and I are both Sunday School teachers and have found the illustrations and side-bars very helpful. There is an amazing amount of additional information in this book about archeology and history. The bible truly comes alive.

We originally bought it as a book that our family could go through. It is such a helpful teaching tool that my wife and I use it exclusivley as a reference resource and have yet to get into it with our family. It is well worth the price.

Beautifully illustrated, great story
I loved reading, especially looking at this book. Oleg returns to the jungle, and meets such creatures and Hector and a mad cheetah named Amok, who Oleg must defeat to become king. The illustrations for this book are gorgeous and i recommend it to both kids and adults.

Enhanced with an informative commentary
Photographer Paul Strand (1890-1976) created an impressive, ground breaking visual portrait of rural life in post-war France in La France De Profil. Enhanced with an informative commentary by French author, essayist and poet Claude Roy (1915-1997), this truly classic (and even legendary) work has been brought back into print after an absence of almost fifty years and will admirably serve to introduce a whole new generation of photographers and students of the history of photography to a memorable and enduring tribute to combined use of photographic images and writing to explore and showcase a "yesteryear" time, place and people.

Extremely insightful
Lacanian Ink provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the work of French psychoanalyst-philosopher Jacques Lacan. The essays by authors as diverse as Slavoj Zizek, Alain Badiou, Jacques -Alain Miller, David Hayman and Juliet Flower-McCannell as well as art critics such as Raphael Rubinstein, David Ebony and Josefina Ayerza, and feminist-theorists Peggy Phelan, Jan Avgikos and Joan Copjec, not to mention Richard Foreman, John Yau and Lynne Tillman, map the shiftings of Lacanian theory in the USA. Linking key psychoanalytical and philosophical concepts to social and cultural phenomena, Lacanian Ink represents a powerful contribution to a psychoanalytical theory of ideology as well as offering persuasive interpretations of the contemporary art scene.

fascinating book that shows children, so beautifully, what is a landscape painting. This is a beautiful way to educate children for art appreciation. And it is very nicely designed.

Law and Order (Le Maintien de l'Ordre) (French Series)
Published in Hardcover by Red Dust (June, 1971)
Author: Claude Ollier
Amazon base price: $8.95
Used price: $6.86
Collectible price: $7.41
Average review score:

Engaging yet challenging novel
One thinks of Camus, Gide, and Barthes (in his strange "Incidents") when reading Claude Ollier's much-overlooked "Law and Order." Unlike these, however, this short little novel is classic noveau roman with everything that is implicit in that description: intriguing, challenging, demanding.

Through chapters skipping back and forth in time, the meticulous description of setting reflects the action taking place: a French civil servant in northern Africa learns of extreme brutality occurring against certain native Arabs, perhaps those most calling for independence from French colonial rule. Whether or not this high crime will be covered up or exposed and whether the main character's life is in danger because of his discovery is the crux of this wonderfully inventive novel.

Little Brown Bear
This book was a favorite of mine when I was growing up in the early 60's. Little Brown Bear learns lots of valuable lessons that children enjoy. He is a character that they can relate to and share his adventures. Afraid of the dark is a wonderful bedtime story.Children will enjoy this as much now as they did 40 years ago!
