The Ancient Love Song: Finding Christ in the Old Testament

OUTSTANDING!
Charles Drew knows how to preach and it shows! His images and use of language are very striking. A PCA pastor in Manhattan, and Harvard grad., Rev. Drew really penetrates the Biblical texts. He pushes the reader past moralisms and allegories so common in Old Testament interpretation and takes us right to the Cross. I have never read a better Christ-Centered, Covenantal approach to Scripture. If you are not used to this, it will revolutionize the way you look at the Old Testament. One of my favorite books of the past year.

Ancient Revelations of the Bible
Published in Paperback by Dell Pub Co (June, 1995)
Authors: Charles E. Sellier and Brian Russell
Amazon base price: $5.99

This is a darn good book
"Ancient Revalations of the Bible" is a great book for Christians and Jews alike to get their trust back in the Holy Scriptures. This guy tells the Bible story and then finds things a tad unbelievable. Then he talks to aitheists and askes them why it is false, then goes to a Judeo-Christian scientist who makes the aitheist look like a total mush head. This book finds scientific facts to back up Bible stories that may seem flawed. This book is at the top of my list. Charles E. Sellier did a darn good job.

The Angels' War Against God

Angels War
I must say, I've only read a little bit of this book so far, but it jives PERFECTLY with information I've either known or suspected for years now. Even in the KJV bible, Gos says that "You fight not against man but against spirits and principalities"

A lot of what is in this book may sound wild and far-fetched to the average bible tumping, church person that doesn't know anything other than what "Reverend Sunday" tells them just before he passes around the plate to collect their paychecks. But for those that have an understanding of this reality and the next, it will make perfect sense and definitely has that "Ring of truth". It is a worthy addition to the library of any seeker of truth, and to seek truth is to seek God - for God IS truth. So if you have any foreknowledge of spiritual things and some grasp of how this reality operates... then I definitely recommend this.

One of the things I was confused about before was... Well, we all knew about Satans rebellion and the angels that sided with him and all were cast out. We all knew about the creation of mankind and some of us knew about Fallen angels seducing the human women. But in what order did all this take place? Who was here first? And WHY did these things happen in the order that they did?

This book answers all of that. I'm even going to advertise it on my site, and no, I don't have any connection with anyone that published or wrote the book or anything of that nature... I just believe that TRUTH in spirituality is a rare thing these days and should be promoted. Feel free to Email me to discuss more - RC

Angels: Knowing Their Purpose, Releasing Their Power
Published in Paperback by Harrison House, Incorporated (February, 2003)
Author: Charles Capps
Amazon base price: $6.99

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
This is a great companion book for Mr. Capps other outstanding work, "The Tongue, A Creative Force." Both books give you great insight into the words you speak.

Are you wondering about Angels, what their job is and just how they go about doing it?
If you are, this is the book for you.
The author gives you Scriptures showing Angels work in history and explains how they can help you in your daily life.

God wants you to understand that you do have supernatural help, and this book explains to you how to release their power on your behalf. Again, your words are important and play a large role in just how much your Angels can intervine in your life.

If you believe in God's Word, if you believe in Angels and want to know more about their job on planet earth and how they can help you, this book is a must read.
I truly enjoyed it and felt the author did a wonderful job.
Recommended!

The Apocalypse of Baruch: Translated from the Syriac
Published in Paperback by Wipf & Stock Publishers (March, 2001)
Author: R. H. Charles
Amazon base price: $19.00
Average review score:

A beacon for the Wise and Prudent
THE APOCALYPSE OF BARUCH is a lost Holy Book. It is the vision of Baruch (Secretary to the Prophet Jeremiah) before and after the destruction of Jerusalem by the armies of Babylon.

The word APOCALYPSE literally means an "unveiling," or explanation of something that was previously unclear. BARUCH is truly an apocalypse in this sense, because it elucidates some of the Bible's history and interpretation. This book is not very well known (obviously) and BARUCH says this to God: "...but that few nations will be left in those times, to whom those words shall be said which Thou [God] didst say." This is particularly true today since this text is rarely if ever studied by Christians of faith along with their Bibles, and it is not readily availible for study. The edition I read is a reprint by R. H. Charles published by Destiny Publishers, not the edition advertised here.

The theological thought in this book is the same as in the Bible, and gives symbolic exposition of Biblical history. The most interesting part is about the twelve waters: six black and six bright. These waters correspond to different events in Biblical history. The person that is lauded as the fifth bright water and given the greatest praise in BARUCH is King Josiah of Judah, who enforced the Law of Moses by force upon his apostate kingdom after he came to power. The sixth bright (and final) water is the Word: the advent of the Christ/Messiah who will usher in the New Covenant of the Church. Later on, the sixth black water (as is happening today) the Church will be besought by all kinds of opposition and God will be slandered. Finally God's Messiah comes and He will reckon with the world's nations, some to be spared and some to be slain. The Messiah's kingdom will be one of joy, peace, triumph and no anxiety.

These same prophesies are in the Bible, but the APOCALYPSE OF BARUCH will give the Christian some supplementary ways of interpreting them and how they will come about.

Ryrie Study Bible
I don't have this specific book. However, the 1960 Reina-Valera text is readily available and easily understandable to someone with a reasonable knowledge of modern Spanish. (My native language is English. I studied Spanish in high school and college.) I do have a Ryrie NASB Study Bible. His study helps are available with numerous English translations as Ryrie Study Bibles. Given the excellent quality of his study helps and of the RV translation, this should be an excellent Spanish-language Study Bible.

Ryrie was a Professor of Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary for many years and is one of the foremost Dispensational theologians of the 20th Century.

Black Biblical Studies: Biblical and Theological Issues on the Black Presence in the Bible: An Anthology of Charles B. Copher

Copher offers a wealth of information in a compact package
Black Biblical Studies is one of the most important works on the historical/theological significance of the role and presence of Blacks in the Holy Scriptures.

The primary strength of Copher's work is the breadth of topics covered in this concise book. While being small in size, it is big on highlighting the important issues and interests that most readers and researchers are looking for. Dr. Copher's exquisite scholarship is evident, and his many years as an eminent Old Testament scholar add much texture and depth to these articles.

As an African American seminary professor, I am always seeking works that clearly articulate difficult issues for students. I especially appreciate his chapters on "Three Thousand Years of Biblical Interpretation with Reference to Black People" and "Racial Myths and Biblical Scholarship." His footnotes were very helpful in pointing me to additional sources that offered additional quality sources of information.

There is no attempt here by Copher to tell it all; this text does get one started in the right direction in one's quest for the truth. It provides a clear path for those who desire to push further.

I highly recommend this text.

Building a Biblical Faith: A Seeker's Guide to Christian Theology
Published in Paperback by Chalice Press (July, 1995)
Author: Charles H. Bayer
Amazon base price: $12.99
Average review score:

Refreshing Look At Biblical Faith
This book is great for persons that have an open mind and are wanting to continue to grow in their faith through looking at The Bible in a "new", or is it an "old" way? You decide. My son, who is a minister, sent this book to me. My husband and I have truly enjoyed reading and thinking this book through. It reads easily, and it gives us kind and realistic answers to questions about our faith should it be different than the way someone else believes. The author, Charles Bayer, ponders the questions of Who and what is God? What part does Jesus play in our lives? How can we understand God better by learning about Jesus? What is the Holy Spirit and what part does the Holy Spirit play in our lives? The book reads easily and this author brings a breath of fresh air and understanding to our faith. Whether you believe in his every word doesn't matter. Thinking about these issues provides a truly growing experience.
