Come Quickly, Lord Jesus: What You Need to Know About the Raputure
Published in Paperback by Harvest House Publishers, Inc. (April, 1999)

Worthy Reading
Written by a truly fine scholar, this book will give the reader a basic understanding of the pretribulation rapture point of view. Of particular interest is the inclusion of information about the origin of the pre-trib view from someone within the pre-trib camp itself, and not from an outsider. Much of the material focuses on arguments against a post-trib rapture. At times though, I was not convinced that some of the arguments were presented as objectively as they could have been. Nevertheless, Dr. Ryrie, always being the gentleman, presents the material in a non-offensive, scholarly style. Worthy reading.

I would say it's pretty good one volume scholarship.
Although some claim you can't find a decent one volume Bible commentary, I've got an accredited B.A. in Theology, and I say you certainly can. The contributors of this commentary are from the highest levels of academia and present material worthy for the pulpit and pew alike.

A Dangerous Grace: Daily Readings
Published in Paperback by Authentic Lifestyle ()
Authors: Charles Colson and Nancy R. Pearcey
Amazon base price: $

Very juicy!
The only problem I had with this book was that it stressed that animals were far inferior to man, a fundamentalist belief that I'm kind of uncomfortable with, because it allows a new land/agriculture ethic to be destroyed. Man should be a good stward of what God has given him. Anyway, What I really liked about Colson's book was that he offered bits and pieces of food for thought. One of my passions is delving into the P.O.V.s of others who might not necessarily share my own. I recommend it, on the basis that the reader will learn something about how Colson presents his God.

French New Testament

Great way to learn French!
If you want to learn French, and you are familiar with the New Testament, this is the way to go. The narrator reads the text at a normal speed, his articulation is clear and for the price, you get many hours of the spoken language at a bargain. Beyond that It is an opportunity to listen to the word of God and learn an new language at the same time. These cassettes are well produced and I have thouroughly enjoyed them.

God's Masterwork: Matthew Through 1 Thessalonians (Bible Study Series , Vol 4)

A "must have" for your library
This book is the fourth in a series of five books by Charles Swindoll and his team of writers. This book surveys the first 13 books of the New Testament section of the Bible. It begins with "Matthew" and ends with "First Thessalonians".

I like this book for at least four reasons. Firstly, there is an informative and factual study of the period between the Old and New Testaments before it actually begins the survey of "Matthew". Secondly, I like its clear explanations and 'user-friendly' approach. Things are explained in non-technical language. Thirdly, this book gives the reader a 'big-picture' of the Biblical book being surveyed. This 'big-picture' is important to have because it helps the reader not to get stuck over details and run the risk of missing the whole point of why the Biblical writer wrote what he did in the first place. Fourthly, Dr Swindoll and his team of writers focus on letting the Bible speak for itself. In so doing, the reader is presented with Who Jesus really is, and mankind's need for Jesus.

One drawback is that it is brief and tends to lack depth. This notwithstanding, I still highly recommend Swindoll's work to anyone who wishes to embark on one of life's most vital pursuits... the humble, sincere study of the Bible!

Christian Easter
It is a good tool to use to share the Resurrection of Christ with young children. This adaptation stays true to the text of the King James version of the Bible and the illustrator's interpretation of the text is inspiring.

The Lost Ship of Noah: In Search of the Ark at Ararat

Riveting Read!
This is a fascinating look at the mythical Ark of Noah the history of its reported sightings during the last century. A relatively new development was the discovery of a ship-shaped volcanic formation on Mount Judi, seventeen miles from Mount Ararat. The author makes a strong case for this location by pointing out that the Koran gives the resting place of the ark as Judi, simply meaning "heights," and that the Bible really says the "mountains," not mountain, of Ararat. This formation is found on the Akyayla Range and Berlitz speculates that the ship was petrified by a process of siliconization. It used to be buried but earthquakes in the area have caused it to rise and the ground around it has eroded away, leaving a more evident Ark shape. It certainly looks very interesting from the photographs. Another mystery is the occurrence of stone anchors on the Ararat plain - similar anchors are also found in the Mediterranean, the Atlantic coast of Spain, France, Ireland, and off the coast of California. Another interesting fact I learnt from this book, is that many types of animal life, species and genera, disappeared at the time that the glaciers melted and the climate changed. Some eleven to twelve thousand years ago something deadly modified all forms of animal life, causing whole species to vanish in gigantic hecatombs. These drowned animals have been found in vast numbers in high mountain caves and crevasses and in great bone yards in various parts of the world, like Wales, Devonshire, Southern England, Dakota, Nebraska and the Florida Everglades. He also discusses the frozen mammoths of Siberia. In the last chapter, The Ark and Reality, Berlitz looks at the myths of various peoples and quotes sections from the Mahabharata, where modern weaponry and bombs are mentioned. This chapter, after spelling out the problems facing the world, concludes with a plea to humanity to look after that other Ark - the earth. There are 42 black & white plates, illustrations, and hand-drawn maps of Mt. Ararat and of the larger area showing the above-mentioned Ark shape. The book concludes with a bibliography and index. I found it a riveting read!

Enlightening
In this book, Dr. Charles Ryrie examines 35 of the Lord's miracles and provides a brief analysis of each. After scripture is quoted, Dr. Ryrie provides the setting and the circumstances under which each miracle was performed. The reader is educated as to the significance of the miracle, the impact the miracle had on the people involved at the time and how the miracle has significance to present day Christians. The only disappointment I encountered was that each miracle was only given three to five pages of exposition. Other excellent works by Dr. Ryrie include "Basic Theology" and "Dispensationalism".

Old Testament History
Published in Hardcover by Baker Book House (June, 1973)
Author: Charles F. Pfeiffer
Amazon base price: $34.99
Used price: $20.00

Excellent, contains an enormous amount of Material!
I really am enjoying the book. I use the present tense as I have not yet completed my journey (I use this word strategically.) through it. It contains too much material to soak up in one study I am afraid, but makes for an incredible look at the lives around many of our Old Testament friends. I would encourage anyone who is looking to take a look at the Old Testament from a fresh, new perspective to pick up this book. Dr. Pfeiffer does an incredible job of consistently bringing the study back to the Word of God as not to make the study overly academic.
