Maybe I'm crazy
I adore Tamara's work and have for years. I've read about her, but it was frustrating because the books all seemed to show the same handful of paintings over and over. I thought I was crazy spending this much money on a book (never spent this much before and will probably never spend this much again). But I've owned it now for a couple of years and I never regretted buying it! This book shows me the complete works of Tamara. I've looked at the pictures over and over. If you really like Tamara's work - ie: she is your all time favorite artist - then buy this book. Buy it at full price or buy it second hand (make sure all the pages are there). You'll see how she painted when she started out and how her work evolved until her death. I have been able to experience that process as a viewer with this book and that was what was important to me.

One of the best comic authors ever.
Olivier Vatine's comic book "Trio Grande" is a splendid presentation of his skills in the comic book world. The book is set in a hot desert scenario with a fantastic spaghetti western style. I was actually a bit surprised to read this one because it was funnier than the previous one "500 Rifles" which has a much rougher story line, but non the less also very recommendable. If you should happen to like his style I can recommend his other series called "Aqua Bleu". Vatine's skill at drawing (and women in particular) is more than just amazing. He is one of my few gods.

It doesn't get much better
Alain Caron was a child prodigy. At 11 years old he was touring Canada with his first band. It certainly shows in this wonderfully scripted collection of tunes from the "Play" release. Guitar, drums and keyboards are what you get as this is a play-along lession book and CD. This is not for the begginer, or weak of heart mind you, have at least enough knowledge to be able to read music as well as sound out parts that miff you(of which you'll find pleanty). For those of you who think that you know it all with the bass guitar, buy thiis collection and you'll realize that there are still guitar Gods out there, bass guitar that is.......

A very fun book!
"The Vampire Film" is an astounding reference book for those interested in vampire films. The descriptions of the films are great, including an excellent section on the vampires of Hammer films. The filmography at the book's end is great!

Vaughan Williams Studies
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (December, 1996)
Author: Alain Frogley
Amazon base price: $75.00
Used price: $69.70
Collectible price: $63.53

Average review score:

Brilliant work, though not really for the general reader.
A landmark in Vaughan Williams criticism. The book handles questions both of intellectual milieu (Frogley's essay on English musical identity relates it to a wider movement) and of Vaughan Williams's musical art. The essay on VW's use of rhythm is outstanding, thoroughly refuting the picture of him as some musical bumpkin, but essays of this type require some familiarity with the nuts and bolts of music as well as the ability to read it. The book well rewards the effort it requires. This has become a favorite book, one that I reread.

Vhdl '92/the New Features of the Vhdl Hardware (Kluwer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science, 229)

a well-detailed book, comparing vhdl '93 vis-a-vis vhdl 87
This book descrives all the changes, additions and modifications made in vhdl language in 1993. Every change/addition has it's own chapter, in which the author explains the rationale behind the change/addition and illustrates them with a few examples. A good book for ppl. who want to know all the differences between vhdl '87 and vhdl '93. The title is a sort of misnomer, as latest version of vhdl was finally balloted in '93, and hence is called vhdl '93 and not vhdl '92 !!

Virtue, Success, Pleasure, & Liberation: The Four Aims of Life in the Tradition of Ancient India

Author: Alain Danielou

Life purpose in ancient India
What is the purpose of human life? In tradition Hindu society, there are four answers - the right one depends on your stage in life. These four goals are: (1) *dharma* -- virtue, duty; (2) *artha* -- success, wealth, family life; (3) *kama* -- pleasure, sexuality, sensual enjoyment; and (4) *moksha* -- total spiritual liberation. Alain Danielou, one of the greatest scholars of ancient India, discusses the implications of a society based on these four goals. Danielou argues persuasively that this four-thousand year old system of the Four Aims of Life gives us deep insight into human nature, a level of insight sadly lacking in many modern conceptions. This small book is brief and clear, an accessible introduction for someone not familiar with Hinduism or traditional Indian society. I highly recommend it for anyone considering question of life purpose.

The Wanderer
I read this book, and really liked it. But then I had to do a stupid English project on it, and the more I analyzed it, the more I loved The Wanderer. It's all about a boy in the late 1800's somewhere in France and how he searches for happiness and the lost innocence of childhood as he travels throug adolesence. I would urge eveyone to read it, and if you can read it in the original French (Le Grande Meaulnes), do so. Enjoy!
