Good Color Trainer
My daughter got the biggest kick from this book. I borrowed it from the local libary and had to purchase. You can really get your involved in reading. It's simple color identification. If you want to have a quick bedtime reading, this is also the book for you. You make of it what you wish.

Enjoy it with your children.

Moon etiquette for the inexperienced...
What would you do if the moon offered you a ride? If you're not sure, then this is the book for you. With matter-of-fact humor, Harriet Ziefert shows the reader what and what not to do if you are fortunate enough to catch a moonride. The muted colors of the simple illustrations contribute to its bedtime appropriateness, while the background texture and visible crayon strokes add interest to capture the attention. And by bringing the intangible into the realm of a child's every day world, this pleasant picture book is sure to encourage good dreams and a healthy imagination.

Mother Goose Math
Mother Goose Math is a collection of Mother Goose nursery rhymes that deal with simple math concepts such as counting. Some of the rhymes are familiar ones like one, two, buckle my shoe and sing a song of sixpence. There were several rhymes that I was not familiar with. The book has bright, colorful illustrations with each rhyme that grab children's attention. Some of the illustrations have borders around them which make these illustrations busy. The rhymes run together page after page with no clear ending or beginning. My children who are 3 and 6 enjoyed the book. I think this book might be too young for children over 6. I would recommend reading this book to children ages 2-5.

Our child loves Nicky.
We don't know why, but there's something endearing about Nicky. Our three-year-old loves him and so do we -- even though we're not cat people. Although she's not yet reading for real, Nicky Upstairs and Down is one of her favorites for "reading" aloud to her stuffed animals now.

A Children's Book That Is Aimed at Adults
This book features illustrations of cats in warm, bright colors that will appeal to you. The book will work best for 2-4 year olds, and all grandfathers. The story describes a difficult child, Louie, who is visited by his grandfather. With patience and perseverance, Louie and his grandfather become comfortable together. I graded the book down one star for its potential to encourage some independent tykesters to model their behavior on the uncooperative examples of Louie. Grandfather's will find many subtle lessons for how to have more fun with their grandchildren. If the book is only read by the grandfather, I up my grade to five stars. This book would be a good gift from a parent to a grandfather who has trouble establishing a good relationship with one or more grandchildren. With Father's Day coming up, you have good reason to do so!

"'Do you have a kiss for Grandpa?' Louie's mother asked."

"No kiss!"

"'Do you want to play ball?' Grandpa asked."

"No ball!"

"'Let's play marching band,' said Louie."

"I'm the leader. You follow me."

As you can see, Louie wants to be in charge. But it takes him a while to decide what he wants to do. Grandpa also has to stick up for himself during these unpleasant conflicts, such as when Louie almost runs him over.

Rather than suggesting specific activities, Grandpa learns to ask more generally. "Now what?" seems to work well.

After Grandpa has patiently done what Louie wanted to do (play marching band, and make a sand cake at the beach), Louie is willing to take on Grandpa's command. "Let's read."

As you can see, children who are feeling contrary like to disagree. You can get them to agree only after letting them establish control. Then, you should stop suggesting activities, and simply ask what's next. After rapport is established, you can simply indicate what you will do next when it is your turn to lead.

After Grandpa reads two books, Louie demands two more. Grandpa explains that he cannot. He has to go meet Grandma now.

"'Now do you have a kiss for Grandpa?' asked Louie's mother."

"One kiss!"

The two smile as the kiss is given.

Even normally easy children will have bad days. This book contains many useful examples and lessons. In my own case, I suggest that parents not push kissing. Some children just don't like to do it very much. It can also become a bone of contention. If you simply back off for a few days, the kisses will soon return.

Think, too, about how other adults and children feel when you bombard them with questions. You may have more success by following the examples here.

Communicate in ways that help people open up to you!

Presents for Santa
As to the content of this book, the editorial reviews pretty much say it all. Yes, the story is slight and the rhymes contrived but my kindergartener was so proud that she could read the book ALL BY HERSELF! I would recommend this book highly to any parent whose child is a very beginner reader and wants a book that is not so much of a challenge but, rather, a book that will raise the child's reading confidence. Both my daughter and I also enjoyed the pictures. The book is also a good read aloud book for my 2 year old because it is easy on the parents' ears and is not too wordy for a 2 year old with a short attention span.

a great re-usable sticker book for 2 - 4 year olds
This is a great re-usable sticker book for 2 - 4 year olds. It's a simple story of a Rabit who is getting ready for easter and has simple re-usable stickers. The stickers are to help the Rabit decorate a easter cake, put cookies on the table, decorate an "egg tree", put some goodies in a basket, help the rabit get dressed, and give toys to each of her friends. My daughter loves this book year round, over time she has become more precise as to where she can put the stickers in the correct places. A fun book to do together.

Small Potatoes and the Sleepover (Smpo3)

A good choice for beginners!
In this book the Small Potatoes, a club, go on a sleepover in the backyard. There are chapters, but the writing is big and there are plenty of pictures. I was entertaining to read about all the fun things they did. There are problems that might arise at a sleepover. Overall I thought it was well written and kids could easily relate to it and get ideas for their own slumber party. This is geared toward ages eight and younger.

Helpful book for young children who had stitches
We gave this book to our 4 year old grandson who had fallen and required stitches in his forehead. He opened his present and "read" it, immediately. When he got to picture where the stitching was done, he quietly said "ouch." The book told his story in pictures and in words. Would be nice to have a similar book that was more ethnically diverse. Benjamin was very serious while he looked at the pictures. Ah, someone understood what he had experienced.

What do animals dream?
What do animals dream? Some possible answers are given in couplets. Humorous mixed media artwork accompanies and enhances some absurd dreamlike ideas. Preschoolers will enjoy the idea that their favorite farm animals may dream; my son thought it was a riot and laughed out loud. Adults may appreciate the farmer's resemblance to Sigmund Freud.
