Teachers: excellent for a worm unit!
This book portrays the typical reactions of students who will be studying worms. It is comical for the children to whom it may be read as well as to the adult reading it. It is an excellent read aloud. It is also a great book to share with your child whether he/she reads it alone or you read it together!

Cute story, but doesn't keep to theme
Both of my sons(ages 6 and 3) liked the story, and my older son could read it pretty well. But it is divided into 3 chapters, the first being a dozen dogs going to the beach, then a dozen dogs swimming, but the last chapter is about 2 dogs fishing. Huh? They don't even catch a dozen fish. So it was cute, but would have been better if it stuck with a dozen dogs theme.

Great book for beginning readers with a little math!!
My first grade daughter loved this book! First of all, she thought it was really COOL because there were chapters! It is a very big deal for children to progress to "Chapter Books". Therefore, she thought it was super that she could read a chapter book. In addition, there was an opportunity for a little math while she was reading. The book was very easy for my daughter to read - not great challenge - but she enjoyed it very much. She enjoyed counting the dogs, adding and subtracting the dogs.

A great book, perfect for kids learning to read
A Donezen Dogs is a wonderful book for kids who are trying to read. It incorporates counting and the activities the dogs take part in are appealing to kids because they can relate to them i.e. getting ready to go to the beach, swimming, and being timid of the water. The book consists of three small chapters, this is a huge deal to kids who have seen their parents and older siblings reading those "huge and difficult chapter books." A dozen dogs was the first book I read by myself from cover to cover, and to this day is still have my copy, some where. So, I think that a Dozen Dogs is a great book for kids who are learning to read, becuase they will feel a great source of accomplishment when they are done.

Moderately charming
Ziefert and Saaf have collaborated on a number of books; Saaf's fluid paintings possess a marvelous charm that imbue Ziefert's quirky characters with wonderful personality. Such is the case here, though Elemenopeo is not Ziefert's most inspired tale. Elemenopeo is an artistic cat with an active imagination, whose own talents are surprisingly childlike and convincing. But the story is a little lightweight, whimsical but on the fluffy side.

This book is part of our collection, and always evokes a smile when it's pulled off the shelves. Nonetheless - perhaps because I'm not a cat person - it's the Ziefert/Saaf books about Pushkin the dog which get a lot more use in our household.

Your child, and you, will probably enjoy Elemenopeo. But be sure to check out the other collaborative efforts of this writer/artist team as well.

Wonderful Short Story
It's a short story about a cat who gets trapped inside for a day and decides to paint a picture. Yes, its simple, but its also magical. The illustrations are original, bright and fun to look at. My three children love it!

I'd ignore the Horn Book review. A pointless story? Only for those who believe simple things are pointless. Some people still find simple things beautiful.

Elemenopeo PLEASE!
Love this book at our house! We found it at the library and our young daughter had a hard time bringing it back. Thanks to a gift, this book is in our permanent collection now! Elemenopeo is a great book about a sweet cat who is very set in her ways. When her daily routine is interrrupted, she has to get very creative! It's fun for the kids and fun to read out loud!

Talk Baby
This book is appropriate for new toddler brothers & sisters to understand how baby's communicate.

Great for new siblings
My 20 month old and I borrowed this book from the library probably b/c she liked the cover. We got this book home and we were not disappointed. Max wants to try and teach his new baby sister how to talk. Month by month we see each different thing and song/chant he tries. I know some of this is above my daughter's level but she loves it all the same. It is one of the books I'll be buying soon. This book is perfect for a child who has a new sibling on the way.

Wonderful book for older sibling!
As a parent of a 29 month old and 9 month old, I have really enjoyed this sweet book. My son loves to recite the rhyming verses and loves the main character, Max. Fun book!

A real favorite of both my boys when they were around 2
For a long period when my older son was 2, this was his favorite book. It's very simply done---kids wait for a bus, all kinds of buses pull up and are not the right bus for them, and you can open the flaps to see what they are the right bus for---for example, a bus for the dog show driven by and filled with dogs. I think my boys like the fact this book is predictable and is about buses---they are bus lovers!

Wonderful, Wonderful book
I started reading this book to my 8 month old son during my pregnancy (last trimester). He absolutely loves this book; it's his favorite. He anticipates what's going to happen and knows when to lift the flaps. I really think he knows when the right bus stop. He loves for me to read in a different and exciting tone.

Enjoyed Pumpkin Pie
From an adult viewpoint, I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a goat show from a goat's perspective and that winning isn't everything - what counts is to take good care of your goat and enjoy your time together.

The illustrations are outstanding!

One observation - "Pumpkin Pie" is obviously a doe, although on the dust jacket, she is referred to as "him".

The best book I've ever read!
I love the book "Pumkin Pie" because I can smell the pie copoking at my house when I was reading! This book is about a horse and girl. My tummy groaned when I was reading this delicious book. I recommend this book to all ages!

Amazing and sweet story.
This is a wonderful story, especially for the 3-5 year olds. Max's sweet and emotional style helped my son cope with his own feelings while waiting for his baby sister to come. This is a MUST HAVE book for expecting moms with a preschooler in tow. Then, after this one...you must get Harriet Ziefert's Talk Baby!

Great for Toddlers!
It can be very difficult to find a book that discusses the "waiting" process before a new sibling arrives in a family. It is even more difficult to find a book that will keep the attention of a 2 1/2 year old. This book covers all of these obstacles and my son LOVES it!

This book discusses a boy named Max waiting for his new sibling to arrive (sister). He does all sorts of things to get the baby's attention inside his mommy's tummy. You can be creative in the way you read this book to your child ,and he/she will find even more enjoyment in the inside cover pages that show the year before the baby is born, and the year after the baby is born.

This book was worth every penny I spent for it!

My 3 -and-1/2-year-old son loves this book!
We're expecting our second child in a few months, and my son (3 and 1/2) loves the idea that he is going to be a "big brother." This book really highlights some of the feelings he's got -- even though our delivery is months away, not days. We especially like the pages printed on the inside-front and inside-rear covers, which show vignettes from the year in which the baby is born (including full term of pregnancy) and the year after the baby is born. Every time we sit down to read this book, we end up having a half-hour conversation about how my son is going to be such a big helper when the baby comes.

Incredible!
I first read "A Begonia for Miss Applebaum" when I was 10 years old. It was the first book that made me laugh and cry (sometimes simultaneously!). I absolutely love the scene where Henry, Zelda, and Miss Applebaum are playing elevator roulette! After reading this book, it sounded like so much fun that a couple of friends and I decided to do it. The imagery is vivid and the portrayal of the character is brutally honest. It's definitely a book that I can relate to on a personal level. I fell in love with Henry from the start with his "Luke Skywalker good looks", and Zelda is just terrific! I strongly reccomend that you get a cup of frozen hot chocolate with extra whipped cream from Large Marge and curl up with this book. I do so every year.... A Begonia for Miss Applebaum never gets old, and I discover something new every time I read it. Thank you Paul Zindel!!

Just Excellent!!
A Begonia for Miss Applebaum was the best book I have ever read. Paul Zindel understands teens, what we're going through, and how we feel. Never, in as long as I have been reading, have I found such an author as Zindel. A Begonia for Miss Applebaum is a delightful, terrific story that will touch your heart, warm your heart, and even break it. Get to know Paul Zindel, he understands you.

"A Begonia for Miss Applebaum" was wonderful!
Wow,this book was truely the best book I've ever read! You should take my advice, and read this book. Its not just a book for kids either,I think adults would like this book too!Wonderful Book!:)

The Doorbell is a Lot of Fun
I gave this three stars because I wasn't thrilled with the content. I didn't like the rhyming and would have like more of a story. But my four year old daughter, on the other hand, loves it. Ever since we got it delivered a few days ago she wants to read it before bed, at least twice, every night. She loves the doorbell part, which I admit, is neat. You open it up (ring the bell first!) and open the book to the page and open the big flap to see who opens the door. Again, I would have liked more of a story and without the rhymes, but I do think it was a good purchase as it IS fun.

Desmond's Mom
I used this book to introduce the idea of Halloween to my 22 month old. He absolutley loved it! He enjoyed the door bell ringing and it helped him understand the concept of trick or treating. Sure it rhymes like a poem, but I think its perfect for toddlers! My husband and I were reading it 3 to 4 times a day when we first got it. In all honesty, we read it so much that I need to buy a new copy to share it with our new baby!
