Perfect for Families with Young Children
Now that I'm a step-grandmom this Haggadah is also as perfect as it was with my own children. And as a rabbi, I'm in a position to appreciate the creativity of the author and her expertise in expressing Passover in terms both children and families that don't have much in the way of Hebrew skills can enjoy. The cut out puppets at the back are so great - a set is wonderful for a young family's table, at least one is a must for each child to really feel a full participant. ....

strong survivalist tale
In San Diego, thirteen-year-old Alexis Castille-Reed attends a pool party where the alcohol flows. An accident occurs, but fortunately no one dies. However, her upset mother "banishes" Alexis for the summer to live with her father in International Falls, Minnesota.

Alexis' dad is the authority on the bald eagles. Currently, he leads a study that is banding eaglets to gain research on their natural habitat. Alexis is put to work, but though she loves the birds, she remains angry with her father for deserting her. On a nearby island, Alexis climbs up a tree to remove a fish lure from an eagle's nest. However, when she lifts an eaglet out of the nest, she drops the bird. That error is compounded when she finds herself stranded on the island protecting the injured eaglet from nasty weather and a bear.

This is a wonderful preadolescent to young teen novel that focuses on Alexis, a person in trouble. She needs closure on her younger brother's death from cancer, but at first is not able to find a way to grieve without guilt for living and without alienating her parents also mourning in their own ways. Through the eaglet rescue, Alexis attains an understanding especially of her father whom she previously loathed as well as personal comfort. Though her parents talking with one another following their estrangement feels strained, WHEN EAGLES FALL is a strong survivalist tale that the young at heart will enjoy soaring with.

A must-have craft book!
As a Sunday School teacher and a grandmother, I have quite a collection of teaching and craft books. This book is absolutely fabulous. There are about 35 stories in the book. Each story is recounted briefly and has several craft ideas for both pre-school and elementary aged children. Fun to use; easy to understand; quick; from supplies you either have or can easily get.

Unforgettable historical fiction
I read this book when I was 11 or 12, and now that I'm 20 and have a younger sister that age, I just had to go out and find this treasure of a book (sadly out of print) again.

Mollie Hunter's tales of youngsters participating in important historical events are touching and engaging, fast-paced and thrilling. She pioneered this genre before "American Diaries" and "Catherine Called Birdy" came on the scene. Her books are a great way to introduce young readers to historical fiction and history in general; her work should not be lost.

Real Texas History through the eyes of a child
This book was written by my mother, so I plead guilty to a slight prejudice, but can also speak about the circumstances behind the writing of the book. My parents were docents at the Fielder Museum in Arlington, Texas, where they moved to retire, and my mother, a retired teacher of writing and English, became fascinated with the story of the family who had built the house that served as the museum. The Fielders were literally a pioneering family in Central Texas, and the book is written through the eyes of a character based on Mattie Fielder, (the wife of James Fielder, who trained as a lawyer, but Mattie felt it unfit, so he became a banker). Much of the history and culture in the book come straight from the history of the area. The book, written for young adults, but enjoyable for all ages, takes readers through Mollie's life and times, and paints a portrait of the early life of this state. I highly recommend it (despite the fact that she raised me!)

Excellent Resource
Young Adults and Public Libraries is an excellent resource for any library starting a young adult program, or a library needing to breathe new life into their existing program. This book gives guidelines for bridging the gap of "popular YA fiction" and "quality literature" so that you can have a collection that is high quality and popular.

The book also gives many programming ideas. It explains how you can adapt some of your existing programs for children into programs with high teen appeal,as well as creating new programs. Once you have planned your new program, the book has marketing tips to improve teen turn out. Many additional sources of ideas and advice are liberally scattered throughout the book.

There are also chapters on serving the underserved, issues of intellectual freedom and teens, and training the young adult staff.

This book will be a welcome addition to any public library's professional development collection.

My grandmother was married to Harry Young. After she passed away is when we really found out about him from letters, pictures, and newspaper clippings that she had. We had alot of questions and finding/reading this book answered alot of them. It is a great book.

Really Heavy Bummer!
Having read this book, over and over and over,I have yet to find any mentions of Neil,Rik,Vyvian or Mike. But it does go on a lot about "Horace" and "Ethel"....perhaps they are previously unspoken of members of the Balovski Family? I am not so sure. And half way through,I was begining to wonder where Cliff Richard fits into the equation? (Luckily, his appearance on the final three pages, where he saves Horace and Ethyl from a herd of crazed rabid Aardvarks,by ensnaring them is "Craz-ee String™",is as exciting as anybook can get!)(Although his impromptu performance of "Devil Woman",afterwords, around the campfire with the Aborgine tribe, feels a bit out of place.). All in all a lovely read. I highly recommend you buy copies for all your friends, and several of your enemies.(Just to confuse them.)
