magical
The book is a real treasure. You will want to read it over and over.

a childhood favorite
I finally found this book, having read it about 10 years ago. Egypt has always fascinated me, and it was interesting to see how a 20th century person saw the ancient world. This book also implies reincarnation, with several of the characters in Erin's present life appearing in the Egyptian world. A very good book!

Great, different reading
This is a great book on several levels. Erin's a sympathetic figure as a reject in the cold world of junior high and an affluent home with a father who travels and a distant mother. You really feel her awkwardness and social ineptitude. The Egyptian section of the book gives an interesting view of life in that ancient society, while showing how people have always had the same internal, emotional and interpersonal problems. All the aspects of the book tie in neatly together.

Che Guevara Talks to Young People

rebel's handbook
Ché Guevara Speaks to Youth
The titles of these speeches are enough to tell why this should be every rebel's handbook.

As a physician, he explained that being good people is not enough to become a revolutionary doctor - one must make a revolution. Once that revolution had won through, he explained the tasks communist youth face. This advice may be taken well to heart, because there are too many people who try to be good persons, and leave it at that.

Read el Ché in his own voice, so you can make up your own mind. This is what Pathfinder Press stands out for: offering space for revolutionaries to speak for themselves. And well earned is this addition to the "...Speaks" "series."

Historically, this individual's intellectual development may be traced in this volume. The reader can see how the ideas gelled into what was to become the first experiment in the socialism of solidarity, which was retaken in 1985, just in time before the USSR began to quaver.

Rebel Youth Of 21st Century:Che Speaks To You !
...as an equal.Too many books are out there "interpreting" Che Guevara ; most often by academics who fear and hate revolution. Here Che speaks for himself : how the Cuban revolution discovered the "road of Marx" by breaking out of the Yanqui Empire fror good; how "lone wolf" individualists do NOT make social revolutions; how to be a revolutionary MD or anything else "first a revolution must be made"; the need for a disciplined revolutionary youth organization;how to learn from fighting workers and peasants while fighting alongside them;internationalism as a necessity and a duty; the fight against postrevolution bureaucracy. These ideas as guide to action are how revolutionary Cuba has survived and will survive.Young and not-so-young fighters REQUIRE THIS BOOK as "globalized capitalism" tears our lives apart. To fight back "intelligently, as Malcolm X would say.Read "Cuba And The Coming American Revolution" by Jack Barnes side by side with this gem of a book.

Ideas needed as much now as when Che Spoke
Even if you are not so young person like myself, you can find your youth and your belief in the future, through Che's vision in these speeches. Whether speaking to a group of medical students in Havana, or a Latin American Youth Congress, or to anti-imperialist youth from around the world gathered in Algeria, Che's message to young people was not watered down. These speeches are a serious charge to young people to take the present and the future in their hands, and follow his vision of struggle for socialism, for the needs of working people, the oppressed, around the world. The ideas in this book are just as, or perhaps, even more valid than when Che lived.

Airs Above the Ground
This is a great book for young adults. Full of suspense and characteristic flairs. Mary Stewart brings alive the silent countryside of Austria with this thriller.

You can get an education from Mary Stewart
Mary Stewart's Ivy Tree got me hooked on reading and I've read every book she's written. The villain in this book is so memorable I have always remembered his name. This book like all of her books marries romance and mystery but in a way no modern books do, it is romance, not sex. All of her books give you information on either classic works or other historic backgrounds, like the Spanish Riding School, that I got big points from my Humanities teachers from things I learned from Mary Stewart, I never told them how I knew the information. This is one of her best, the people are memorable and the horse is miraculous. Just a treat all round. Read all her mysteries you can't go wrong

Best of the best
Like other reviewers, I read most of Mary Stewart's novels as a teenager when they were called "Gothics". Nine Coaches Waiting and Wildfire at Midnight were wonderful, and among my favorites, but Airs Above the Ground lingers in my memory as the best of Mary Stewart's works. The scene with the old horse on the hillside gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes every time I read it, or even think about it. I went to see the Lippizaners in Austria just because of the influence of this book. Read it--you won't be disappointed.

Cult classic novel
I read this book so fast the first time that I had to read it again a week or so later. The action and plot moves so fast that I couldn't put it down. When I went back to read it the second time, this time for the language, I discovered a book full of rich prose and deep meaning. The characters are fabulous. I want to hear more about them, maybe in the sequel. I shared the book with five friends who also loved it,and now I am telling you about it on line. Read it! I can't wait for the movie..Mel Gibson would be perfect.

How exciting!
Wow! What a blast this book is! It made me so excited that I was getting sick with worry over what would happen to the characters!

It starts with a sort of crash-landing on Earth of long-lost relatives. Then it develops into a romance. Then it develops into suspense the typs of which I have never seen rivalled. As I said, I was sick with worry!

Well written, exciting, yet highly under-read. Do yourself a favor, and enjoy this exhilarating novel!

I can't wait for the sequel !
I bought it for the cover, but found the plot riveting. Once in a while, you are lucky enough to come across a book that will keep you hoping long after you close the cover. This book moved me to question things that I stopped believing in long ago.

Curse of a Winter Moon
An historical fiction book set in sixteenth-century France. Marius' mother dies in childbirth when his brother Jean-Pierre is born on Christmas Eve. Her last instruction is for him to take care of his brother. This proves to be a difficult task since peopled believed that those born on that day are loup garou - werewolves. When his father is found guilty of reading (the Bible no less) he is burned at the stake as a heretic. A lot of historical background is packed into this book. The subject matter is dark and serious. Marius' character is well developed and leads the reader deeper into the story. This is the type of book that will encourage readers to read on to find out what happens next. This is also a perfect companion book for units on the Middle Ages.

This is a Young Adult Must Read
In "The Curse of a Winter Moon", Marius deals with universal timeless issues of maturity by dealing with the unexpected death of his mother and consequently bearing the responsibility of his little brother, Jean-Pierre. That task wasn't going to be easy considering the townspeople had labeled Jean-Pierre as a loup garou (werewolf), cursed by his birth on Christmas Eve.

The plight of Marius and Jean-Pierre away from the ravage and hypocritical Catholic rule and superstitious villagers keep young adult readers at the edge of the page while dealing with age-old issues of good verses evil.

"Curse of a Winter Moon" is a historical novel set in 16th century France, a time when the Catholic church was ruling with an iron fist - condemning commoners who could read (and consequently think for themselves) as heretics, punishable by death. Marius displays to young readers a maturity that is able to discern right from wrong, strength to endure the villager's contempt for his family, and a hope-based survival mindset for a better future.

I used this novel as a read-aloud in my 10th grade classes. I strongly recommend this novel not only for its believable historical accounts, but also for the gripping story of Marius' eye-opening experiences to the harshness and cruelty of the world and the tenderness and loyalty of the bonds of family. My students would agree, this novel is truly a must read!

Curse of a Winter Moon is Fabulous for the Whole Family
My daughter checked out Curse of a Winter Moon from our library and I was interested in the cool yet haunting illustration on the cover. After reading the book, I can say that the cover picture is enigmatic, dark, yet beautiful, and immediately captures author Mary Casanova's twin themes of danger and protection. Marius, a 12-year-old boy who lives in France in the 1500's must try to protect his younger brother, Jean Pierre from the fear and ignorance that often flared into violence in medieval Europe. Because Jean Pierre was born on Christmas eve, the people at that time believed he was cursed by the mark of the loup garou--the werewolf.

The book is filled with many interesting characters--the old woman who cares for the family, the quiet but strong blacksmith father who has more than one secret, Marius, who is so good at playing the lute (like an old form of guitar), and his uncle, Brother Gabriel, a monk who travels all around Europe and is now in the area.

Even after reading the book, I still wonder about some of the characters and what might have happened to them later. Did Jean Pierre stay safe? Did Marius become a professional minstrel? What about Brother Gabriel--did he continue to travel and have an influence on events during such a dark time in history? I hope author Mary Casanova will consider a sequel to this wonderful book. I am looking forward to talking with my 8 and 11 year old daughters about the book after we read it together.

Captivating
I first bought this book when I was 12. I didn't want to put it down! Now and then I pick it up for a good read. It is very entertaining. Jessica's story has it all.....she has a wonderful, devoted family, men that are in love with her, good friends and bad enemies. She falls in love with Wheeling Hawk, a brave young Indian warrior and must make an agonizing choice.

Great Book
I still read this one every now and then after 15 years.

The Best Sunfire Romance!
This is the first Sunfire book I ever read. I read it when I was a little girl and I still love it now. It is about a girl named Jessica and her struggles in the Great Plains. It is sweet, sappy (as all good romances should be), and interesting.

Very good
An easy quick read. If you're looking for a fun book, this is it. Basically it's a story of three cousins who see one another ever summer. It's set in a small town in Newfoundland in the 1960s. It's interesting to read a story set in Newfoundland, the language the characters use is probably one of the best parts of the novel, hilarious! Definatly true Newfies! The novel isn't widely known, but still extremely good. It seems that every time anyone comes to my house and sees it, they ask to borrow it! And everytime, they love it. Honestly, everyone I know who's read it has loved it! I trust that this novel will rely soley on word-of-mouth for sales. Anyway, it's a great read for anyone who likes stories about good friends, good family, and good times!!

A highly recommended, "reader friendly" novel
Set in a small village on the coast of Newfoundland, Seven For A Secret by Mary C. Sheppard is a highly recommended, "reader friendly" novel of Rebecca and Kate, two fifteen-year-old girls and their confrontation with opposing directional pulls. Invited to develop their artistic talent and explore the world beyond their village borders, Rebecca and Kate are forbidden to go by an uncompromising family member. Also available in paperback..., Seven For A Secret is strong tale of personal will in the making one's own destiny.

I liked the ending of Seven For A Secret
Actually, unlike the reader from Nova Scotia, I really liked the whole book - including the ending. I didn't live in rural Newfoundland in -when was it, the sixties or seventies?-, but it sure rings true to me that lots of girls in that time and place would get pregnant before finishing high school.

To me, that was part of the point. That the choices people make are in large part dictated by their environment........... that when you're young your social circle is accidental, but as you get older you increasingly spend time with people who share your goals and values.......... and that the only people who don't end up following the crowd are those who are both single-minded and lucky.

That said, this isn't a message novel. The author seemed to really like and sympathize with all her characters. And so when I read it, I cared about them all too. And the book was subtle enough that you knew everybody in it would have to make some tough decisions. There are no easy answers, the book said, and I agree.

I thought the book was insightful about girls' lives. It was a great read too - I read it straight through in about 3 hours and enjoyed every page.

So Young to Die
This is about a Jewish girl named Hannah Senesh who grew up while Hitler's commands were spreading around Europe. She was a brave girl who wanted to save many people who were sent to the concentration camp so she joined the British Air Force, the most courageous rescuers. ALthough many men were interested in her and wanted to marry her, she wouldn't accept. She was never married and died at a young age. Later she was executed by the Nazis at a camp. She is known to be one of the most brave and courageous women.
I read this book because I thought her story was very interesting. This book was aslo recommended by my mom. She also thought this book was interesting because she likes biography.
This book teaches you that being brave can get you where you want. I recommend this book to everybody.
My favorite part in this book was when Hannah Senesh met her mother at the camp and they sent messages to each other across the room. They were so happy to see each other beacuse they haven't seen each other for a couple of years. The part where I didn't like was when she was taken outside and was executed. She didn't deserve to die because she was inisint and didn't do anything bad she was trying to save her people.

great book
It tells about the life of a Jewish family during World War II, and how they had to leave their home. Hannah joined the U.S. Army a few years later after they left Norway. I read this when I was in fifth grade, and I've remembered it ever since. It had a big impact on me, and now I'm an eleventh grader and I still find myself reading it every now and then. I recommend this book to everybody!

This book is GREAT!!
This book is so sad, touching, and gives you a ton of useful information. You should get this book, it is AWESOME!!!
