I am so moved to read responses like mine to this book.
I read this book 33 years ago (4th grade) and haven't forgotten it for a second. It touched me in so many ways. I, too, remember where it was in the library. I, too, searched for it and couldn't find it until a friend tracked it down when I was in my mid-20's. Sheila Moon was part of a group called (if I remember this right) The Psychological Guild based in California. I was on their mailing list and I remember the day and where I was standing when I recieved a notice of her death. I felt so sad. No one I have known has ever read her or heard of her. To hear others speak of her book in the same way makes me feel like I have found long lost brothers or sisters. Maybe this is somewhat corny but since reading the other reviews I see that the feelings are the same. Thank you for carrying such a valuable book.

Knee Deep in Thunder
Fantastic book. One I read many times as a child and young adult from our local library. I went back to read it again as an adult and it had "disappeared". I finally was able to purchase two copies through our local book store (before I had internet and Amazon access), one for me and one for my sister. It's one of those books you can read again and again. At any age.

A wonderful, life-changing book.
I first read this book in 7th grade. I cannot think of any other book that has made such a lasting impression on me. I remembered it so clearly that, in high school when I learned of the Index of Poetry, the first thing I looked up was the poem "Climb" by Winifred Welles, from which the title "Knee-Deep in Thunder" was taken. The poem has become a life-long favorite, too. This book is magical and inspiring.

Impressive work on business Internet technology
The first half of this book is written by the listed authors, followed by six essays by thought leaders on peer-to-peer commerce, collaborative commerce, portals, adaptive strategies for B2B marketplaces, B2B integration, and visibility in the extended supply chain. Fingar and Aronica have done a commendable job of examining and explaining the changes to business models brought by information technology. The authors tell the reader what they think was wrong with the dot-com economy and what needs to be done to succeed in the high-tech economy in which the major risk is not getting Amazoned so much as getting "GE'ed". The book straightforwardly delves into the business model implications of electronic marketplaces, peer-to-peer commerce, B2B exchanges, e-hubs, e-services, component-based architectures, m-commerce, collaborative commerce, value chain optimization, and more. The authors agree with a growing number of others, including re-engineering gurus Hammer and Champy, that the key to success now lies in extended business relationships. The book does an excellent job of looking at the new generation of Internet technologies need to enable new business models and processes. You do not need to be highly technically inclined to follow this discussion which helps business leaders understand what they need to do to power ahead in the real innovation economy. One strength of the book is reflected in the subtitle which shows that the authors are concerned not with technology alone but with how it fits together with new technologies and new business models.

Peer-to-peer commerce, e-hubs, B2B exchanges, auctions, more
Doing business on the Internet is now a mainstream phenomena ranging from novice online entrepreneurs to established multinational conglomerates. In The Death Of "e" And the Birth Of The Real New Economy, Peter Fingar and Ronald Aronic effectively collaborate to survey and explain the rapid and fundamental changes affecting how individuals and companies are doing business in this age of the computer whether the transactions are across town or on the other side of the world. The authors explain the emerging business models of the electronic marketplace, peer-to-peer commerce, e-hubs, B2B exchanges, auctions, wireless applications, m-commerce, intelligent agent technology, collaborative commerce, digital strategies, and more. The Death Of "e" And the Birth Of The Real New Economy is very highly recommended, essential reading for corporate executives, economists, business managers, and anyone with an interest in how the Internet is impacting upon local, regional, national, and international economies and business practices.

WHERE WE'VE BEEN, but more importantly WHERE WE ARE GOING!
This book covers what assumptions were wrong in the dot-com economy and refocuses on the realities of business in the technological, digital-savy economy. It covers all of the P2Ps: Powerpoint-to-Production, Path-to-Profitability, and finally, Peer-to-Peer technologies among others.

Explained are the educational takeaways from historical, leading edge developments of e-commerce, e-procurement and electronic marketplaces and how they can be applied based on the realized importance of extended business relationships. This book then addresses the appication of the newest developments, including peer-to-peer, collaborative commerce, and B2B integration within the supply chain in the currently developing (Real New) digital economy.

This book is recommended reading as it clearly details the digital past and provokes thought on how to continue to execute using new technologies within business today.

Always in a position to change...
I have been a member of the author's church, New Life Fellowship for many years. Because my husband and I were "there" to live through the experiences shared in this book, I thought reading it would be a fun experience, but I didn't think it would be a life changing experience for me. After all, I had been sitting under the teaching Pastor Pete shares in this book, experientially for many years now and it is woven (by the Holy Spirit) into the very fabric of our being a local church. But, much to my surprise (and yes, temporary horror) I found the Holy Spirit confronting me with issues in my life in which I used to walk in greater emotional (and thereby spiritual) maturity but due to some hard experiences in my walk, I had reverted to a more unhealthy practice in my life. God is SO good and so faithful to use this book to grow me in yet one more area by revealing this fact to me through it. Now I am allowing the Holy Spirit to a more healthy practice in that area. I have found with the Lord, that my heart needs to always be in a position to change as He seeks to heal me and bring me from glory to glory.

The best and most wonderful step of all those presented in this book is the last step, "loving well" because that is what Jesus did and what He call us to do as well. The important and most amazing thing is that none of us can get to that place of loving well until we work through the proceeding steps. These steps are laid out in a simple, honest and easily digestible fashion that anyone can appreciate and which pastors and church leaders should embrace. Pastor Pete's open and honest vulnerability before God and us, has caused him to love us well, and his example, like Christ's is a empartation to us to do the same.

Better than expected...
Although the title is The Emotionally Healthy Church, you can substitute almost anything for the word "Church". The Emotionally Healthy Life comes to mind immediately. The book is a quick read, written for the average person, giving real life experiences and real, hard lessons. The reader finds out, rather quickly, that the author has an appreciation of life and wants to share it with the world. The evaluation exercises are a help to the reader to gauge his own life and take practical steps toward health while honoring God. A must for any type of leader.

Read this book cover to cover!
"The Emotionally Healthy Church" is not another another "pop psychology" "feel good" "happy church" book. Pastor Pete Scazzero takes off the Band-Aid and digs deep...now healing can begin! If you are at a loss as to where to put your foot down next, spiritually speaking, read this book! You will find your next step on the road to true Christian maturity! This book has "integrity" written all over it!

From Children's Literature Review
Using a question-and-answer format with mundane cartoon illustrations, the authors deal with typical questions young readers ask about hardware, software, the Internet, computer manners, and the "hard to predict" future of computers. Aside from a few geeky projects (a CD-ROM mobile), the book has things fun to know, such as a list of emoticons, many interesting websites arranged by topic to try, and a helpful glossary for those who have trouble separating an FAQ from a CPU. Some answers are pretty technical for younger readers but this is the kind of book you read in rather than through, and computer users from the most naive to the above-average in skills will find something of use here.

The anchors of the CompuDudes NPR radio show answer kids' computer questions in Why Doesn't My Floppy Disk Flop? by Peter Cook and Scott Manning, illus. by Ed Murrow. From definitions of words such as "bug" and "hyperlink" to tips about how to get peanut butter off a keyboard, the book provides comprehensible and useful answers to a wide range of queries.

From The Union-Tribune - (San Diego, CA):

by Suzanne A. Smith

Why Doesn't My Floppy Disk Flop? is an excellent first book about computers for children ages 8 and up. The authors, Cook and Manning, are better known as the "CompuDudes," hosts of a popular computing show for kids on National Public Radio. This book is a compilation of the most frequently asked questions they have received on the show.

Cook and Manning answer questions, from the simple ("what is my computer doing when I first turn it on?") to the more complicated ("what is a cable modem?"), to the humorous ("why don't they make computers in colors?"). The answers to these questions are technically accurate and written in a casual, patient style that is easy for kids to read.

The book also includes some fun, computer-related activities, such as making a CD-ROM mobile, writing a simple program in BASIC, and helping Mom and Dad plan the family summer vacation using the Internet.

A useful chapter at the end of the book is titled, "Good Computer Habits." Here, kids learn how to considerately share a computer with others, back up the hard drive, safely participate in chat rooms, and even how to clean the computer monitor.

This book is good for young children who have expressed an interest in learning more about computers. Mom and Dad may even learn a few things as well.

Light yet enlightening
This book elucidates the greatest and most inspiring teachings of Hinduism, and yet does so in a way which is full of humor and wit and shows the universality of the teachings and their immediate relevance for daily life. Special technical terms and other boring academic BS are virtually nonexistent, and the book's filled with lots of clever little stories and fables to illustrate the teachings. Swami Satchidananda is a true master of the pun; he alerts us to the dangers of egoism, for example, by reminding us how the word 'mine' -- meaning 'belonging to me' -- can also mean something treacherous that's just waiting to explode on us when we step on it!

Fun and light-hearted, yet also enlightening, heartening, uplifting and utterly profound. Can't recommend it too highly.

This Book Changed My Life
As dramatic as that claim sounds, this book entered my life when I desperately needed help. It became a "bible" for me that got me though some very troubled waters...the simplicity of the language and the depth of Swami Satchidananda's sincerity has had a profound effect on me. I read it at least once a year...and I give it as a gift to very special friends who are ready for the message, which changes with each new reading! All that, plus Peter Max's artwork! A great library addition.

A WONDERFUL SURPRISE
I bought this little book as a Peter Max fan and was delightfully surprised by the simply written, pointed pearls of the Swami's wisdom. It is the kind of book that you can just randomly read when you want to be uplifted, or a lovely gift appropriate for art lovers as well as anyone at the beginning...or in the middle of...life's journey.

Clearly written, very accessible.
This was the first book I read by Thich Nhat Hanh. I had heard a lot about him prior to this. When I read the book, I could easily see why there is so much excitement about him and his works. He writes in a very clear, very accessible style. This book is a commentary on the Heart Sutra. The Heart Sutra is said to contain the essence of Buddhist teachings. I would recommend any book written by Thich Nhat Hanh!

Like Meditating
Just reading the first couple paragraphs of this book was like, "aaaahhh..." Completely relaxing. The writer's message and style is simple yet poetic, and very important--how to not be afraid. This is the first Buddhist book I have ever picked up, being that I had only studied Buddhism from the classroom/historical aspect, and never viewed it in any way as something I would actually connect to or practice in my life. Now I can. This book is refreshing, short, easy to read. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great book
A Nobel Peace Prize candidate, Thich Nhat Hanh explains in easy to understand language, what this paradoxical concept of emptiness means in Buddhism. This should be a good book to start off with if interested in Buddhism or emptiness.

Common sense in a new light
This excellent book is divided into 2 parts: The disease and the cure, and the latter consists of 3 sections: Accentuate the positive, Eliminate the negative and Latch onto the affirmative. It explains the fight or flight response, the effect thoughts have on the body, and the question of death. It also deals with mourning, how to focus on the positive and has a useful section on depression. Suitable quotes by inter alia Freud, Santayana, Voltaire, Emerson, Russell, Shaw, Anais Nin, Epicurus, Whitman, Keller, Hippocrates, Oscar Wilde and Maria Montessori enhance the text and help to explain things. I would not say that it is absolutely the best self-help book I've ever read ( a little more emphasis on how to influence the subconscious mind would have been valuable), but it casts welcome new light on this thing called "common sense." It is a pleasure to read and I highly recommend it.

This is a really wonderful book
I have battled depression on and off for much of my life, and I have to say that this is the best self-help book I have ever read. It is absolutely wonderful. It makes you want to memorize every quote and every precious, uplifting word of wisdom. Some people might say that the things in this book are common sense, but if that's the case, when I look around I see that common sense isn't so common! This book really is a must have for anyone who wants to improve their disposition and feel better emotionally.

Life-altering principles, humor, step-by-step guidance!
McWilliams explains and delivers comprehensive and understandable principles of positive-focus. This is absolutely the greatest self-help book for positive thinking that I've read yet. He addresses issues from relationship to life-threatening illness. He doesn't just blab on about the issues, he details and outlines specific strategies for dealing with crisis in a positive, effective manner. I recommend it to everyone, illness or not...this is very empowering.

Personal Support Group In My Pocket.
I quit smoking!

I kept "Out of the Ashes" with me everyday for my first month. Every time I craved a cig I read a page from this lovely pocket support gem and I made it without smoking each time.

Anyone thinking about quitting, or just beginning their quit, will find this book worth having around.

It's short caring and considerate pages are helpful in ways that cannot be measured.

If you smoke -- Buy this book. It is worth every dime and then some.

Out of Ashes
This is an excellent resource for folks who have stopped smoking or are planning to stop. There are absolutely no do's and don'ts (no nagging). This is a portable book that can be taken with you everywhere for excellent motivational tips. I take it to work, school, and read a couple pages before bed. This is not a preachy type book thats what makes it so nice, it's written by two people who have stopped smoking for today. I highly recommend this book!

What a Cool Little Book!
This book wasn't quite what I expected, but it's still great! It's like a book of daily motivational or inspirational messages. Not every message applied to me, but most did big time. I've seen lots of books out there to help people BEFORE they quit smoking, but this is the first one I've seen to help people AFTER they quit smoking. And I figure I can use all the help I can get if I want to remain an ex-smoker the rest of my life!

iconoclastic
Gault writes a refreshing, uninhibited tale of youth. For those of us who are older, the book can leave you pining for days past. You know - it's the old romantic agony - you want to go back but can not. Some Puritans may find the book sexist and downright dirty, and I even could have done without all the scatalogical references, but hey - it is what it is. A good read.

An absolute classic
This has to be my all time favorite book. I first read this book when I was at college, living away from home for the first time, and feeling carefree and invincible. This book encapsulates the narcasstic spirit of youth, and also how reality rears its ugly head.
The prose may be crude, but it is also intelligent and very funny- every sentence is a joy to read.
I have lent this book to virtually everyone I know and found women have enjoyed it just as much as men. In short BUY THIS BOOK!!!

Says It All
Peter Gault is by far and away one of the greatest, most uncelebrated, authors of our time. Goldenrod is a CLASSIC that will make you wanting more.
