Highly Recommended, Very Reader Friendly
This recently released book on Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most reader friendly book I've come across in quite a while. I've seen this book first-hand, and it is impressive. It describes the complicated neurology of the brain in an easy to follow manner. Also, Dr. Fotuhi describes (in plain language) the latest AD research findings and discusses their implications. If I had to recommend only two books on Alzheimer's disease for caregivers it would be this one and, "The 36-Hour Day." In contrast to some books on AD, Dr. Fotuhi's book is optimistic. Not only does he describe how AD develops, but more importantly he discusses what people can do to reduce their individual risk factors for developing AD. I find myself constantly recommending this book to all the families of patients participating in AD research projects I coordinate.

what a great book
I found this book extremly useful and easy to read... it covered the latest research on brain and memory, in addition to giving tips on how to prevent memory loss..
Dr. Fotuhi's credentials are very impressive and I hope he will continue passing on his expertise to us as he has in this book

Great tricks to improve memory!
I found this book very easy to read, well researched, and super useful! Fotuhi really knows his stuff. The best part for me was the chapter on the practical steps that can be taken to sharpen one's memeory. The ATTENTION formula is easy to adopt and very effective. While I can't say my memory is already sharper, I am more aware of what's going on up there and what can be done to make sure everything continues to work like fine oiled machine.

Best guinea pig book ever!
I only wish I could give more than 5 stars! I absolutely love
this book. If you didn't already love guinea pigs you will after you read this entertaining and informative book. It is very helpful for guinea pig owners of all ages and the pictures are absolutely adorable. I could read it over an over and I never tire of it. If you have a g-pig or are thinking about getting one you have to have this book!

Peter Gurney is a wonderful author
This is a great book to have in your library if you have guinea pigs - anything you would need to know to take good care of your pet is in this book, or on his website - I refer to both quite often, when it comes to my pigs!

It is over 250 pages of information, with color photos. All different kinds of pigs are pictured, and everything from choosing a pig to routine care, to preventive maintainance to curative procedures are included, and even a section on guinea pig behavior. P.G. has a lot of pigs himself and obviously cares a great deal for these animals. I respect him very much!

If you have a guinea pig, YOU NEED THIS BOOK!
This book is perfect for anyone who has a guinea pig or is thinking about buying one. You may find after reading it you know more than your veterinarian seems to know about guinea pigs. That's how it turned out for me. This book contains everything you need to know, including how to care for ailments, which is very valuable knowledge.

The Book Will be Your Bible in Lab
If you doing any sort of organic chemistry in the lab, you will really get your hands into this handy reference on protecting groups. The book neatly organized into functional groups and their protecting groups. A Primer for organic chemists. It will save you zillion hours of researching for papers/references on the appropriate protecting groups used in reactions.

Essential
If you are a graduate student in organic chemistry then this book is a must. It will help with class work as well as your lab work. This book is the authority on protective groups and is an essential reference. Have no qualms about purchasing it.

Quintessential Book for Organic Chemists
This book is absolutely essential for the organic chemist. Well organized by functional group to be protected and well indexed to allow searches by protection group, this book has it all. If you have a question about how to protect a particular functional group, this is the book for it. Under each section a plethora of references may be found--with each one succinctly summarized to avoid looking for references that have nothing to do with what you want. This book is essential whether you are a graduate student studying what reactions you need to know to do the research assigned you or a professor writing research proposals (indeed, I bought my own copy of this book from Amazon because the ones in our school library were always checked out to one of the professors). In summary, it is an excellent reference text that should be on every organic chemist's desk.

A very fast moving book!
Even though this is my first dinotopia book I've ever read I'm sure it's one of the best I'll ever read! This book takes place in the magical land of Dinotopia, where talking dinosaurs and humans live. This is about a girl named Gwen who goes on a challenging quest to save her father from a deadly disease. Jason her friend goes along with her. Along the why they also meet a young raptor named Booj. The only hope for Gwen's Father is for the trio to find Odon a great healer. A very long time ago Oden went under ground and dug a maze so no one could find him. Now they must find Oden inside the complicated and dangerous maze. But what if they can't find the way through the maze? And what if Odon isn't there anymore? You'll have to read the book to find out!

interesting book, interesting characters
The characters in this book were fun to read about, and the plot itself was interesting. Older readers might enjoy this as a nice quick read, as I did. Younger readers will love this well-written and nicely paced adventure.

Would you like to go on an adventure with talking dinosaurs? If you like adventures you'll like this book. This book is about a girl trying to save her dad from a deadly disease and a dinosaur can cure it. But will the girl be able to find the dinosaur to cure her father?

Really good, doesn't completely follow the tv series!
Ok, great series, great premise: Neri is a young woman who can speak to a whale she calls Jali (or Charley, whatever you prefer) and has a pretty mysterious past. In the first season, which is what the book is somewhat based on (more on that in a sec) Neri meets up with the Bates family: Jason, Brett and their mother Dianne. The season mostly concentrates on that, though there are a few other adventures along the way (Dianne has a diving accident and Neri saves her, for instance). Jali is also kidnapped and subsequently saved by Jason, Brett and some other kids. The series lasted four seasons and spawned a second series "The New Adventures of Ocean Girl" which in all reality has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the first and is in fact animated while the first one is real people. Unfortunately, only the first season was made into a book and it's difficult to find copies of the episodes but it's incredibly good.

As to the discrepencies between the book and the tv season: there is at least one episode that I know of that is not at all mentioned in the book and several scenes with things out of place or things not happening in the same order. I'd give an example but I don't want to give too much away.

Other than the discrepancies, it is still an excellent book for a person of any age and even if you've never heard of the series or seen all the episodes, I still would recommend it to anyone.

The only reason the book got a four instead of a five is because of the discrepancies, nothing else.

Enjoy!

Relive the magic of Ocean Girl
Ocean Girl was a family-friendly Australian TV show that lasted for four seasons, although only three seasons were shown in the United States. This novel came out after the first season premiered, and it perfectly captures the mystery, excitement and wonder of Ocean Girl. Much of the flavour of the series and its characters has been captured, although translating the magnificent visuals of the Daintree rainforest does not fare as well. Still, author Peter Hepworth makes a brave attempt. An example:

"Snow white sands curved out of sight on either side. Beyond the beach great strands of rainforest trees grew thick and tall, their trunks interlaced with vines and creepers. Brilliantly coloured birds flashed from branch to branch and butterflies the size of bread-and-butter plates flitted through the air. They made their way inland, Neri leading the way. Each turn of the track revealed new sights. Dripping clusters of bright tropical flowers. Little marsupials who sat up on their hind legs like tiny kangaroos and watched them pass. Huge emerald tree frogs with golden eyes."

Ocean Girl is an excellent companion to an amazing New Age TV series. Neri's story will whisk you away to an isolated island paradise and a mysterious past. Once you start reading this you won't be able to put it down!

Ocean Girl
This is a truly fabulous book. Whether or not you watched the series, you will definitely love it. This was one of the most original, exciting, and all-around best shows in TV history, so if you haven't seen it, you've got problems... but back to the point. I don't want to spoil the plotline for you, so just READ IT! I also hear they are coming out with a movie. Whether or not it will be shown in the US, I don't know, but it'll definitely be a must-see!

the BEST parenting book out there!!!
This book is my parenting BIBLE!! I can't say enough good things about it--each and every chapter is INVALUABLE. I am so glad I found something that can help me figure out how to handle my kids at every bend in the road, in virtually every situation. It advocates attachment parenting and loving-guidance discipline, and also gives you a plethora of techniques and tells exactly when and how to use them (i.e. "everyday discipline" vs. bigger, more stubborn issues). He clarified the reality that family life is not just a mundane distraction--a family should have goals, a vision of where they are going in life, etc. He talks extensively about how all family members must have a solid rapport between them for discipline to be effective, for love to be felt, etc. He clarifies the question of spanking from both a spiritual and a scientific perspective. He goes into detail about how to handle the various stages of childhood, from loving the infant to "taming" the toddler to handling the teenager--gracefully. He outlines how to foster virtues, morals, a love for religion and a love for Jesus in your children; he tells how to make your family into the "domestic church" Pope John Paul calls it to be. I wouldn't even waste time with any other parenting or discipline book--this one more than covers all your questions and worries. I refer to it at least once a week, and it gives me the guidance I need to be an effective yet loving parent to my kids. It wil literally change your outlook on family life; it will give you new hope and make parenting a truly gratifying experience. The title couldn't be more appropriate--now I really have the information I need to raise "perfect" kids! If you REALLY unconditionally love your children and want them to be the best they can be, you will be thrilled to have this book!

Should be required reading for every parent
Whether you're Catholic or not, if you are a parent you will benefit tremendously from this book. I'm a Catholic parent and I'm really thankful that someone took the time and trouble to organize the vast plethora of parenting techniques out there so that it is easy to see their place within the structure of a Catholic parenting paradigm. The author is very knowledgeable of both scripture and church doctrine and explains their relevance to raising children. The step by step techniques for dealing with the various stages of a person's maturation are excellent. He also has little quizzes that you can use to help elucidate the areas where your parent-child relationship may need help. He has a superb treatise on why spanking is not a suitable discipline technique. I can't say enough about the excellent blend of philosophy, practical application and religion that the author has put together in this book. He is an organizational genius. Read this book!

So faithful and practical!
This book is great! I love the way it integrates authentic Church teaching with really practical parenting advice. I only got it two weeks ago, and the techniques are already making a huge differences in my childrens' behavior. I really look to it on those days when I'm not sure what to do to keep things on track. I only wish I knew about it sooner! I know what I'm giving as gifts to my mother's support group. Thanks for this great resource.

Excellent book on the Fundamentals of Kickboxing
This book is creatively crafted by Peter Cunningham and Robert Mickey. It is a great primer on the basics of kickboxing and chapters include information on conditioning, getting started, striking techniques and much more. The book isn't just full of photos teaching the reader how to make each movement. No, this book is much more. There contains much information on the ends and outs of this sport.

This book reads at a ninth grade level which widens the appeal to teenagers who have had some karate training and may be looking to expand their knowledge into the sport aspects of kickboxing. Adults in the martial arts (like myself) should enjoy this book as well. Cunningham has done a great job and deserves a lot of credit for this publication.

A must for kickboxers
Like most martial artist, I did some soul searching before I found my art. I bought a lot of books, on many styles. I ordered this one, and it made my mind up for me. This is a THE book for anyone interested in kickboxing.

Extremely Fun and Helpful
This book is a must for those people who are interested in doing kickboxing, whether they are newcomers to the sport or intermediate fighters looking for great knockout techniques. The book is written in an easy to understand format with photos showing how to execute the kicks and punches. Before I read this book I knew nothing about fighting. But within two weeks of practicing these techniques I felt confident that I could defend myself if the need arose.

Any man who loves freedom should read this book.
This book is about man's freedom: freedom of thought, freedom of worship, freedom of the mental encroachments that make a man think he has the right to despise, oppress, kill a fellow human being because he is different. This book is about the power of Reason, about the absurdity of racism, war, greed and violence. Voltaire was the father of modern man. His errors were the errors of his age: his wisdom is the wisdom of the better part of man.

Even relevant now
I'm not your typical philosophe reader, being a high school girl who usually prefers rap music to any sort of book, but there is something about voltaire's writings that appeals to me. NOt also are there some great statements made in this book, but clues to what life was like back in his day(such as in "love" the pox he is talking about is syphilis, which back then was associated with being immoral and in "astrology" he refers to his son dying in his cradle which was common then). His writing is witty, yet rational and even though sometimes difficult to interperet in modern language, if you read in serveral times and refer to a dictionary often you will understand what he is saying. Although some of the ariticles are irrelevent for today's world they are useful in historical context and there are many articles that are and always will be revelvent. Don't pass this book off as old fashioned, Voltaire never goes out of style.

No home should be without it...
While many claim that Candide is Voltaire's masterpiece, I prefer this collection of essays that are arranged as a dictionary. Reading this book is like sitting in an elegant 18th century salon and listening to one of the great minds of the age declaim on a variety of subjects, both ancient and modern. While Voltaire will occasionally bend scholarship to make a point, he does it so well and with such wit and style that the things that he gets wrong really don't matter. If you were shipwrecked on a desert island, this would probably be one of the books that you should have packed before leaving.

Feast Your Eyes
'Culinaria - The Caribbean' is a big, wonderful book on the cultural and culinary sides of the Caribbean. Readers will be treated to a visual tour from Bermuda to the Netherland Antilles and many places in between: The Bahamas, Haiti, Dominica, and more.

This is a great coffee table book with enough recipes to tempt you to keep it in the kitchen. The photography throughout is absolutely beautiful. But be warned: After purchasing the book, you'll probably want to see your local travel agent. VERY tempting! Enjoy.

The Best Cookbook on the West Indies!!!
Both my parents are from the West Indies (Barbados & St. Vincent) and I have seen a lot of cookbooks about the Caribbean. This was the first book that provided SO much detail and the pictures where so life-like. It transports you to the island with pictures rich in colour and recipes from every island. I loved this book so much that I got one for my mother!

Excellent
I brought the book in my home island Barbados, I am very impress. It taught me all about the Caribbean, culture and taste of my fellow West Indians. It also encourages me to visit the other Caribbean islands. It is must for every-one to have.
