Great reference for serious students of German.
I have found this dictionary to be invaluable to my pursuit of fluency in German. Building a proper vocabulary in German independent of one's own primary language is important to being able to fully learn another language. I am now able to read, speak and write German without the labor of translating from English into German and vice versa. I recommend this dictionary coupled with reading simple texts at first such as children's books starting from a young age level up to an adult level with many intermediate levels in-between as one progresses. I lost my first copy that I bought in Germany several years ago and recently I bought a replacement online. I have not looked through a German-English dictionary in the last few years, and I'll never again search through one.

A Great reference for any student of German.

Very Useful and Definitive Reference on German Vocabulary
This dictionary is the perfect supplement to a bilingual German dictionary. It contains explanatory, easy-to-understand definitions for some 66,000 German words. Each entry contains the part of speech (and gender, for nouns), pronunciation where nonstandard, conjugation (verbs) or declination (nouns), a clear definition, and often examples, related phrases, synonyms, antonyms, and other helpful data. This is extremely useful for those speaking German as a foreign language. A word of warning: this dictionary, of course, should only be used by those with at least intermediate proficiency in German, as the dictionary is monolingual-German.

Excellent
This book is an excellent source for information on learning the bones, how to side them, and many other interesting aspects of osteology.

Complete and concise course
This is quite possibly the most useful book I have ever bought. "Human Osteology" is clear and complete. The photos and diagrams are clear and complete. The text is clear and complete. I have used this book in three separate classes and it has proved invaluable to me all three times.

One of the best textbooks I've owned
Two words: wonderfully illustrated. They could use this book for a class on lab photography.

I chose this book over other optional texts available for a forensic anthropology class, and I believe it was by far the best at this level. Like others have said, if you need to know the small visual differences between two similar landmarks, this is the one.

Also, don't sell it back once you're done. You'll be sorry.

A Profound Message
The sermons in A Knock at Midnight are both deeply moving and a powerful reminder of the greatness of Dr. King. This collection should be read and heard by everyone, especially the young of today who have been fed a Dr. King who somehow only delivered one speech ("I Have a Dream"). As a middle school teacher I found the sermons to be an excellent way for my students to move beyond the platitudes about Dr. King to a much deeper understanding of his life and ministry. To read and listen to these great sermons is an absolutely wonderful experience, but at the same time a sad reminder that today we have no great voice of moral authority like his. Fortunately we do have his words and voice preserved for us and our children.

I wish I could give this EXPERIENCE 10 stars!
Notice I refer to the cassettes and the companion book as an EXPERIENCE as I both listened to and read the REVEREND King! Although the media focused on the visible part of his ministry, the civil rights movement, his sermons are profound and awesome in their implications for today as well as their in their powerful delivery during the mid-1950's through 1960's. Although I will cherish both the cassette series and the book, it is through hearing the SPEAKING of Dr. King that really made me breathless! Thank you LORD God for sending us your messenger Dr. King to give us a wonderful earthly ministry for a brilliant and brief time (much like Jesus Christ). Simply awesome!

A fabulous collection of soul-stirring preaching.
A fabulous collection of soul-stirring preaching by one of this century's finest preachers. Many people know King as a great political leader, fiery orator, and creative organizer. This collection of sermons will convince the world that King was first and foremost an anointed preacher. His sermons ring with authenticity and resound with relevancy. Kings messages speak profoundly to our troubled times and offer both prophetic insight and divine guidance as we attempt to find our way into the next millinium. This collection of sermons, with their superb introductions and commentaries, is perhaps one of the finest efforts of its kind. It will certainly be a source of pleasure and insight for generations to come.

It is absolootey the best in the wurld. YA! I go to highschool and I is gettin the beest education that this here town can offer. bi guyz

An excellent piece of work, clearly done as a labor of love
I moved to Los Gatos in 1996. Before I read this book I had virtually no idea of the town I lived in. Now I understand it very well. It's actually interesting! By the way, this book was obviously created as a labor of love by someone with a genuine interest in their community.

Los Gatos Observed
This book displays a wonderfully compiled history of Los Gatos. The photography is beautiful, and just about every fact is historically accurate. A good section of the book is where the buildings are shown today downtown, and then their original use is displayed below the photo. Anywone who lives in Los Gatos or anywone who loves Santa Clara County history will love this book!

Intimidated by yoga? Don't hesitate to buy this book.
I began looking into yoga because my back and legs hurt constantly after standing up at work all day. Most of the books on the subject out there seemed to be either too difficult or else plagued by a condescending writing style. This was the exception. It looked approachable--not too many exercises that just looked flat-out impossible. So I bought it and took it home. That was about three weeks ago.

My back doesn't hurt anymore. My legs don't hurt anymore. If they feel a little achy after work, I just go home, do a little bit of yoga, and voila! instant relief. In addition to the post-work relaxation, I've taken to doing a longer yoga workout every other day for general fitness. I started by just working my way through the beginning stretches, and have been adding advanced poses as I felt comfortable with them. I feel great, and as a side effect, I am gaining some muscle tone, and my figure looks better. I haven't lost any pounds per se, but my clothes fit much better. How great is that? I've finally found an exercise that feels good and is also good for me. I think I'll be sticking with this.

Trivell's book is very useful. She provides two sections of stretches--beginning and advanced--and then gives us ideas for how to combine them into workouts for those days when we don't have time to go through all the exercises. There are sections detailing which poses are good for different areas of the body, so you can focus on your weak points. There are 10 and 20 minute routines; there is a morning "wake-up" routine and an evening "destressing" routine. Everything about this book is approachable and down-to-earth. I love it. If you're a beginner to yoga, this is the bomb! Then, once this is old hat to you, you can maybe check out one of the other books, the ones that looked intimidating not that long ago.

Solid instruction for beginners
I had never done yoga before ordering this book, and it has been a great help to me. The poses are described and deomonstrated in a clear and straightforward manner with quality photographs to use as a guide. I enjoyed the book so much that I have enrolled in a yoga class. It's benefitial to have an instructor to correct you and instruct you in person, but this book has been a great companion to my instruction. I only have class once a week and this book keeps me motivated and practicing between classes. Definitely a good starting point for a total beginner.

Fun Fun Fun
the pictures , the instruction GREAT GREAT GREAT thank you Lisa you are one in a million

A 5 Star Celebration of Literacy and Imagination
I use this book in the beginning of each school year with my fifth grade students. It always leads to great discussions about what is important to them and leads into interesting writer's notebook entries. The book is a great tool for inferencing, noticing details, and celebrating the little events in our lives that make us who we are. A good book to use when teaching about differences that make each of us unique and how we all have our own set of priorities.

An amazing book
I stumbled upon this book recently and, as an avid reader of children's literature, believe it is one of the most amazing books I have seen -- for readers of all ages. It is lyrical, humorous and quiet. The illustrations are spare--and that's all that's needed. Life in the desert is depicted beautifully. I felt like the book was speaking me, calling me to a more mindful way of life. I plan to buy it as gifts for all my friends this year, no matter their age.

This is a book that reminds one to stop and smell the roses.
This is a wonderfully written book about a Native American woman who goes out into the desert and observes the wonders and beauty of nature around her. She records what she finds fascinating and creates her OWN holidays or celebrations. One day she may observe a green cloud and call it Green Cloud Day. On another day, she may observe a shooting star and call it Star Day. She gets outside of herself and observes wonderous things that may only be seen once in a lifetime!

Thisis a great read!!!
I was fortunate to have read "In the Lord's Library" quite some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed the entire book. I feel that MARSDEN did a superb job in creating this storyline and was able to put into writing a very believable tale. It is evident that MARSDEN spent a portion of his career as a police officer and he has been able to bring to life some of the situations which he faced while in service.
If you are looking for a great story to read during these rainy winter months, look no further than "In the Lord's Library"

Enjoy!

Wonderful!
We were so caught up in this book, that we read it in a day!
We read it aloud. Reading, as if it were a script.
Each character was brought to life, as P.J. Marsden described them in detail.
"In the Lord's Library" was the book we chose to end the year with.
It was the perfect selection, for best friends to read together.

I look forward to reading more books, by P.J. Marsden.

What an awesome book!
You can certainly tell the author of this book is a veteran police officer. The places he takes you, and skillfully I might add, could only be achieved by a cop who has been there, done that, and yes, even took the pictures for his file. While there was certainly a lot in this book for me, I can easily say there lays within these pages a little something for everyone, as well as the lesson that we can all be as strong as the main character Judith. We just have to allow our free will and inner strength to take us there. The author skillfully weaves this believable story by leaving you hanging at the end of each chapter, challenging the reader to abandon the pages but I would have none of that. I kept right on reading!

The Incredible Hulk: Future Imperfect

One of the greatest.
Ninety years into the future where the world nuked itself into near extinction the incredible Hulk (With Bruce Banner's mind)is brought to bring freedom once again. The Hulk learns that he was brought there by Rick Jones.Rick Informs him that after the explosions the Hulk went power crazy and killed off all the heroes. Now known as the Maestro The future hulk wages war against his younger self.

What follows is some of the greatest battle scenes ever seen in a comic book. This book is filled with spectacular art and a perfect story. It is well worth the money.

Hulk vs Hulk -- a great story with great artwork
It is a future imperfect, where all the superheroes of old have died... except one.

In the distant future, a group of rebels open a time portal to the past and brings through it Bruce Banner, aka the Incredible Hulk. This is not the mindless Hulk of old, but the new Hulk with the mind of Bruce Banner.

After adjusting to his new future surroundings, Hulk finds out that the mastermind behind his abduction is no other than Rick Jones, who is now old and wheelchair bound. Rick has brought the Hulk into the future in hopes that he can restore freedom to a dictatorship world. This future is filled with Gestapo-like police that has free reign over the residents. However, the police all follow the leadership of the Maestro, a powerful dictator who is actually the future version of the Hulk!

What we are treated to is a fantastic story of the future of the Marvel Universe, where the remains of heroes are kept in jars in Rick Jones' basement.

This is a fantastic story of an alternate post-apocalyptic world run by the Hulk. Peter David, who has written many Hulk stories, doesn't miss a beat in this absolutely fantastic tale. He keeps the story very fluid and interesting. The artwork is wonderful, as the legendary George Perez does it.

I definitely recommend this book to any Hulk fan, or anyone looking for a quality story.

The best Hulk story ever told!
I loved this story so much. If you are into time travel, you have to check this book out. Fantastic artwork by Perez, and it is written by the ultimate Hulk scribe, Peter David. I reread this quite often.

Nothing new but still great
There's probably no better commentary on Ephesians but I must say that this commentary doesn't really add much to the study of Ephesians. Much of what O'Brien says is said by other commentators.

But I would also say that he brings together the best of what is said and known about this wonderful letter that Paul wrote. I'd easily recommend this book to anyone.

One of the best Ephesians commentaries available
This is an important commentary on a wonderful letter from Paul. It completes O'Brien's trilogy of commentaries on the prison epistles. It was a rare privilege to be able to attend his Ephesians class just before the commentary was due to be published.

I find that in each of his commentaries Dr O'Brien discusses the issues fairly, while still presenting clearly, and even forcefully, his own points of view. [This is so much better than those books which present several views without ever giving away what the author thinks!]

The author is theologically conservative and presents the arguments for Paul's authorship and a compassionate, complementarian approach to the roles of men and women convincingly.

Highly recommended.

Another home run by O'Brien
O'Brien is a giant Pauline scholar and has already given us outstanding works on Philippians (NIGTC) and Colossians (WBC). This Pillar commentary on Ephesians is simply marvelous. The introduction is thorough and his arguments for Pauline authorship are convincing. The exegesis is lucid and well thought out.

The one thing that I do not like about the Pillar series is the transliteration of Greek. However, O'Brien has footnoted the Greek even when transliterating it in the text. Just another plus in this fantastic work! I recommend using this work along with A.T. Lincoln (WBC) and F.F. Bruce (NICNT).

By the way, look for O'Brien's forthcoming Pillar commentary on Hebrews in the near future!

Sumptuous Photography
The quality of this book is what first grabs you. The paper is thick, glossy and has weight, it reproduces 19th century photographs beautifully. The text is ancillary and never intrudes upon the primary focus here, which are the photographs of Lincoln, his family and the people who shaped his extraordinary life. The text illuminates and expands upon the photographs, giving dates and other pertinent information.

If you're looking for a full-scale biography of Lincoln, look elsewhere, this is primarily a visual treat and one of the better photographic compilations on any President.

Gorgeous
Kudos to the publisher Knopf and all involved on the quality of this book. The reproduction of the 19th century photographs is first rate. The sepia toned image of the great man inside the front cover is exceptionally gorgeous - just breathtaking.

John Updike said Knopf publishes the most physically beautiful books in America, and this book leads me to believe he's right.

This is not a comprehesive, scholarly biography of Lincoln, nor does it pretend to be. But the text reads well, and the Lincoln photographs are beautiful, all-inclusive and presented in sound written context. The large size of the book works particularly nicely here. Well done!

Brilliant narrative and photography of Abraham Lincoln
Philip B. Kunhardt is to be highly commended for this outstanding photographic history of Abraham Lincoln. Not only are the photographs captivating, but the narrative of Lincolns life and the important events during his lifetime are interesting and enhance this book. Many interesting stories go along with the photographs of Lincoln from his 40's to his last days, however the most interesting part in my opinion is the month by month account of his presidency and the important events that occured. So much about the man has been written, but until this book was published not as many photos of President Lincoln were circulated or published. Just as important, are the events and stories which swirled around Lincoln. From his habits and humor to his history changing decisions are written in clarity and interesting form. His life and his loves are given with compassion, and his impossible losses of his sons and his mentally unballanced wife Mary Todd Lincoln is given unflinchingly. The last chapter of the book is about the assassination and the controversy surrounding Lincoln's remains, a very interesting and informative chapter to close with. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in U.S. History or 19th Century U.S. History.
