Outstanding Book on Focused Topic
This is an outstanding book on a focused topic: "Distinctive [Fireplace] Projects for any Style Home." After discussing some basics of mantel making, he describes in detail from start to finish, step-by-step, including a materials list, suppliers, and tools needed for nine projects to build nine different style firelplace mantels: Simple Colonial, Georgian, Simple Federal, Arts and Crafts, Mackintosh, Victorian, Greene and Greene, Art Deco, and Contemporary. We are updating a fifty-year old home in Coral Gables, Florida. It presently has a very pedestrian fireplace mantel. I wanted a fireplace mantel with more style. My wife and I both loved the Art Deco mantel in the book and I plan to build it almost exactly as described. I should save a considerable amount of money on materials because the mantel is built basically from one sheet of mahogany plywood. The color photographs are also outstanding in clarity and detail.

Mayan-Indian suffer in a real poetic way...
Read this book, when I was too young to understand the real meaning... Then, after feeling nostalgic towards my childhood, I ran into it again. Changed (or maybe reminded me) some paradigms in life. Must read it to understand in a simple description: love, death, eternity, peace, friendship and inmensity. The small things that turn life into something whole.

Botta's Best
Even if Mario Botta has lost you as a fan of his work over the last few years, this project is an amazing tribute to the insight and adeptness that launched his career as an architect in the first place. This book captures the very heart of the chapel--I've been to the site and as indescrible as it is, this book does it, and the project itself, justice. Highly recommended.

Cinco horas con Mario
Published in Unknown Binding by Destino ()
Author: Miguel Delibes

Average review score:

hysterically funny monologue of a petty Spanish woman
Delibes's Cinco horas con Mario (Five hours with Mario) is a stirring portrait of the situation of Spain, what effects the Civil War and Franco's dictatorship left on the minds of the people in Spain. And for those who are not very familiar with Spanish history, it is also a witty satire of the narrow-mindedness of the petty bourgeois. The Mario in the title is a typical representative of the Spanish free-thinking intellectuals, who dies in a heart-attack and during the five hours in the title his wife speaks out in a long monologue her frustration. It slowly become more and more hysterical, until at the end it gets reduced to repeating the same obsessive thoughts over and over again. In some ways the book can be considered a parody of the psychological novels, when a hypersensitive person recollects his or her memories, rich in subtle details. Here, this sensibility gets replaced by hysteria and instead of tinged recollections we are offered the frustrations of the primal desires of Mario's wife. For example every second page she returns to her biggest frustration: Mario did not have a car. Moreover, he used to ride a bike, he used to meet his strange Socialist friends, and was filled with strange thought like the liberation of women. The irony of the situation is emphasised in the fact that Mario now is dead and cannot answer to his wife, which can also suggest the futility of her ideas, many of them pretty eerie, like when she talks about the good days in the air-raid shelters. Thus, the humour has also a taste of morbidity, especially when probably, like most of her ideas, these kind of thoughts must be a cliché among the Spanish petit bourgeois. All in all, this book is the splendid representation of human pettiness, a catalogue of Spanish (and international) common places.

Excellent place to begin and end
Wonderful and fresh approach with unusual examples of works not normally seen in books printed in the U.S. combine to send the reader on a quest for more. This small Bible of art, thought, and expression challenges the reader to begin on his own, not by copying some master of the past or present. NO technique rules here, only helpful hints and a path to mastery of your own creativity.

A book about a true martir who gave his life for his country
This is a book about my uncle who died before I was born. I am proud to have been named after him. I cried reading about his ordeal and about the suffering of those who fought for the same cause. Thank you Mr. Pombo Matamoros for sharing your story. I now know what he and you went through.

#1 Conversational Italian Book
This book is for a person who needs to know how to communicate in Italy in a short period of time. I found this paperback easy to carry and easy to understand. It contains everything you need to: introduce yourself, others and being polite. What you need to order in a resturant and how to get there. Important things you need to ask people when your in Italy. The difference between words when speaking to woman and men. The alphabet. The thing I liked the best is there are many phrases to get you through your vacation with ease and feel like your not a tourist. I recommend this book above others like Berlitz and Barons because it has everything you need and it's easy.
