Very well laid out, presenting concepts in bite size pieces and with lots of supporting examples in simple terms. I found I resonated deeply with many of the issues raised. For the first time felt myself naturally doing the exercises at the end of the chapters because they made perfect sense. I gained much joy and hope from myself through this book. It's feels like having a friend confide their worst fears to you and realising that you feel exactly the same way and had been too scared to speak out.

This book provides incredibly detailed information on the workings of the inner critic, and helps build awareness and a solid skill set for disarming it. It is very well organized; each chapter introduces a topic and then gives you exercises to work with the material. It had a very powerful impact on me, equivalent to a week-long spiritual retreat.

Brown does a superb job of illustrating the different levels of "attack" our "inner critic" performs on us daily. Very easy to read and to follow its concepts. Great examples and excercises to apply concepts.

A great and interesting read about how the Allies conquered Togo, Kameroons, South West Africa, and East Africa. The Germans started World War I with four colonies in Africa, and short campaigns in three of them resulted in their division between the French and British. In German East Africa, the battle was long and hard. A German cruiser was stranded here, and the Allies had to find and destroy it. The German military commander Lettow-Vorbeck waged a guerilla campaign against the French, British, Belgian, and Portuguese for all four years of the war. The story of the African Queen also maks its appearance in German East Afria. This book is the definitive account of the First World War in Africa.

This book was totally awesome!! It provides a very readable story of the little known African Front of World War I. It is full of colorful stories, such as armies being attacked by bees, and heroic exploits such as Lettow-Vorbeck's defense of German East Africa. I recommend this book to anyone interested in African colonial or World War I history, or anyone who just likes an exciting story.

This is a truly magnificent book that covers a rather "obscure" (for those of you who are not colonial/WWI wargamers) and colourful period in history. The war in Africa during the First World War was a forgotten one; yet, as it remained mainly a sideshow, it proved to be a collosal one. From the unremarkable Allied offensives in German South-West Africa to the epic odyssey of Col. Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck in German East Africa, where he brilliantly launched a guerilla campaign against the several British, Belgian, and Portugese armies that were sent against him. He continuously played silly buggers with his enemies; it was only news of the armistice in Europe that eventually forced him to surrender his arms in late November, 1918, being the last German officer to do so.
Well written, this is a highly reccomended book.

The toddlers in my life love this book and ask us to read it over and over again. Machines at Work follows some construction workers through a work day and through different phases of building. The illustrations are beautifully done - simple to understand what is going on and very interesting to these little persons learning more about the world around them.

We are a big fan of all Byron Barton's books. Even though he cannot read, our three year can recite the book cover to cover. Great illustrations and fun story lines.

Great pictures, colorful, gender-inclusive. My two year old can do this book start to finish from memory. We read it at least once a day, and construction has taken on a whole new attraction. (Makes road trips through those zones much more fun!)

The Byron & Fuller provides a serious introduction in mathematics of classical and quantum physics. This book is designed to complement graduate-level physics texts and one of its goal is to introduce the physicist to the language and style of mathematics. Consequently, this book may be really useful to people with strong skills in physics and maths. No doubt that they will have fun reading the theory of vector spaces.
For the others, just like me, not really specialized in physics and maths, but maybe just curious, this book can bring you a lot of fun too. It reminds you of what you may have studied a few years ago... And more than that, you cover with this book other fields of mathematics that are not taught to non specialized students like Hilbert space, quantum physics, theory of analytic functions, Green's functions and integral equations.

To conclude, if you're curious about mathematics and physics, you should buy this book. If you're good at maths and physics, you should already own this book.

This book is not, and I repeat, IS NOT for the inexperienced. This book is a GRADUATE LEVEL TEXT on mathematical physics. If you are an undergraduate student taking a physics class, this book will be of no use to you. I recommend that anyone interested in purchasing this book have a somewhat decent amount of mathematical background. I personally recommend Calculus I-IV, Advanced Calculus and Linear Algebra.
If, though, you have this background, then this book is may just be for you. It is concise, to the point and presents a clear and well written discussion of mathematical physics.
I just felt that before you dive, head first, into the world of mathematical physics, somebody needed to warn you about what you were getting yourself into.

This book introduces the reader to the basic mathematical structures of theoretical physics: mainly Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetic Theory, And Classical Mechanics. I used this at UC San Diego for a year long graduate course on Mathematical methods in physics and engineering. If one has the time, there is really a lot to be gained by carefully studying this book. A big part of the book is geared toward developing in detail the mathematics of the Quantum Theory. This is a good thing because in my experience most QM books are too eager to "get to the physics". It is true that you can get by with a superficial understanding of functional analysis and still do QM, but this book will give you an immensely deeper understanding of the underlying structure of the theory. In particular, the treatment of Green's functions and integral equations is good. There is chapter on Group Theory and it's uses in QM. Also is a chapter on Complex analysis, although it is a wise idea to read a book entirely devoted to this subject. Overall, I like this book very much.

This book brought tears my eyes and also made me smile. It is for anyone who has loved an elderly cat and appreciated the joys of a frisky new kitten. Children will enjoy the idea of a cat taking care of a kitten and all readers will admire the watercolor illustrations. Through text and pictures the spirit of both cats is nicely captured!

This book honestly and beautifully portrays the lifespan of an aging cat. It teaches children the value and joy of older animals while talking about some of their "health" problems. The illustrations are utterly charming. I am so grateful someone has written such a lovely book about our elderly cats!!

This is my 3rd novel that I have read by this author and he hasn't let me down yet in giving an enjoyable read. Gage is a heroic character that is double-crossed by his own people, but with the help of a few friends he exacts his reckoning. Sato the knife-weilding bad guy is Gage's main nemesis in terms of fighting and surviving abilities, when they meet sparks and flames fly! The story moves along in Huggins style with good, solid characters and intense action. A must read for Clancy-like fans, but this is better than Clancy in my opinion. Can't wait for this guy's next novel.

I havent even read this book and i cant put it down...Ive read cain, wolf story, and leviathan...im bout to read hunter...All Mr. Huggins books are great.....its hard to put them down! I started reading cain...it was ok...but then i actually started reading it.....it was so great i couldnt put it down...im 14...and most 14 year old athletic guys dont think twice about books.....and thats what i thought....I read it all and needed another book to read. so i got leviathan by huggins.....again at first i thought it was going to be boring....But i read a lot...then i read the rest of it...awesome! Then i had to get another book....I was going to get the reckoning...but they didnt have it... so i got wolf story...great book also... "The Reckoning" is, by far, the best book I have read in 20 years. I read an average of eight books per month in various genres, and nothing has enchanted me quite so much as this delightfully penned story of intrigue. With a plausible plot, obviously well-researched espionage and combat techniques, and realistic characterizations, I was completely drawn into a believable scenario, and read well into the night for the first week or so. Suddenly, I found myself allowing just one chapter at bedtime, and I realized this "rationing" reflected the immense pleasure of savoring every paragraph. James Byron Huggins is the only contemporary author of the thrilling adventure genre who can truly be called an "author" in the best sense of the title. Every sentence is beautifully assembled, and each phrase turned in a lovingly constructed way. From his description of the twilight sky to the probing of the minds and hearts of the characters, to the narration of nocturnal subterfuge, every word falls perfectly into place. This is literature at its best. I thoroughly enjoyed this exciting adventure from the comfort of my fireside, and I look forward to starting in on "Leviathan" next. With "Cain" on the way, I will certainly enjoy the rest of this winter. I only trust Mr. Huggins will be a long-lived and prolific writer -- his is a God-given talent that must find expression. His first endeavor, "A Wolf Story," was an excellent offering in the tradition of "Watership Down" and is recommended for anyone with a heart for our furry friends. Thank you, Mr. Huggins. I had been playing what I thought was golf for more than 25 years before reading this book. Some of the most basic methods to play shots well are described in this book. The methods are written in a style clear as fresh water. A quick, easy read that will open your eyes, help your game, and make you understand what so many others have said about this great teacher.

Boy Howdy! I've been playing golf for two years now, and like other golfers who've started playing the game, I too watch The Golf Channel religiously looking for every possible tip to help with my swing. Reading golf magazines, and the like. Well,this past spring I purchased The Little Red Book, and it along with two other books written by Mr. Penick, are the only books on golf I have, and I don't need no more. I'm telling you,as you read this book, it's like Mr. Penick is right there with you, helping you to "Be At Ease" and to "Take Dead Aim". I love the Slow Motion Drill, and it's my goal to purchase a weighted club and use the drill extensively during the off season. Most of all, I plan to devote as much time as possible to my short game, because Mr. Penick is right when he says a twenty foot putt is more psychologically damaging to an opponent than a 270 yard drive off the tee. I carry "The Little Red Book" with me every day along with my Bible in my book bag. Sound crazy, but that's how I feel about Harvey Penick. In fact when people ask me if I have an instructor, I tell them it's Harvey Penick..

I've owned this book for a few years now, and like my caption says, it never gets old.

In this golfer's book you will find instruction, philosophy, and history - all woven masterfully together in the form of stories. Whether it's the lengthly section where Harvey gives his thoughts in the grip, or the extremely terse paragraph explaining why he never joined the tour, Penick uses the right words at the right times.

I've read it several times and often take it with me on long trips. It's broken into several very short segments, sometimes two or three on a page, sometimes two or three pages. This means you can always pick it up, read a quick snipit, and walk away from it.

Lastly, I've found that whenever my golf game is struggling, I read this book and it always somehow gets back on track. I don't know if it's from the lucid instruction or the comforting philosophy, but either way this book has become an integral part of my golf regimen.

A Wolf Story is a great book about animals in the wild.

I read it a long time ago, and I dont have it with me right now, so I cannot recall the names of the characters, (I have read a lot of books since then.)

A wolf needs to become a manwolf I guess you could say, so he stays out alone one night by himself.

He runs into a bad wolf, and they fight, eventually, after a lot of tense action and fighting, the Good wolf wins. He goes home battered and bruised. The hare is a very wise rabbit, and his colony comes under attack.

The bad wolf attacks the hares, and they have to make a run for it, and the head hare has to fight the bad wolf and distract him away from the rest.

Well I have given away too much already. So I'll just say that this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is the book where you want the underdog to win, and the underdogs are the good guys.

Have fun reading this book, and I hope you read the rest of Mr. Huggins books, Cain, Hunter, and A Reckoning.

This book is greattttttt!I'm reading it for my second time and i still love it.an amazingly written book,a mixture of Watership Down,Redwall,and a little bit of chrestianity thrown in!A story about a young wolf Arumus,and his struggle to overcome the Dark Lord and worship the Lightmaker.It's full of action.Read it!

... oh, and did I mention a real cool silver wolf named Saul.

This is my one of my favorite books. Of course, I love all of James Byron Huggins' books, but I treat this one with care. Wolf story is about a brave, silver wolf named Saul and and a large, wise hare named Windgate. Both are warriors. Both lead their clans with strength and honor in the ways of the Lightmaker, and against the forces of the Dark Council.

This story is similar to the Redwall series, in that it uses fantastic animals as the charactes to tell a tale to touch the hearts of men and women - boys and girls. Huggins uses fantasy to bring to life that their is a difference between good and evil, and in whom you put your faith, does matter. This is a book for all ages. I am 28, my friends son is 13, and we both loved it.

This isn't a mussy, gooshy story of love (although that theme is present also). No, these are courageous animals with the will, the faith, and the fight in them to battle the forces of evil to the end.

To better understand the character of the British Army and officers of the Victorian age, one needs to be fully versed on the Roman Army. Without this background, Farwell's fine book will be nothing more than anecdotal and amusing. This books is a valuable addition to the literary collections of military historians and modern military officers.

A superb book. I had a rather vacant weekend recently and fortunately this book arrived a day before. Superb, highly entertaining stories on the pre-World War I British Army covering subjects as diverse as discipline, officers, enlisted men, religion, women (there were few of them-wives, sweethearts, prostitutes), drink (there was way too much of that), the importance of regimental loyalty,-see chapter titles for a full list. This does for the British army of the later 19th century what Don Rickey's FORTY MILES A DAY ON BEANS AND HAY accomplished for the American frontier army but is far more readable and enjoyable, even though the Indian Wars period is my main area of interest and research.

One drawback to the book--there are no footnotes or bibliography so we are left guessing where Mr. Farwell culled all these wonderful stories, tidbits and insights from. The book is so readable though and I am not a tracking down sources to write something myself, so this is easily forgiven. Enjoy!

This book provides a comprehensive survey of the Victorian army during the height of the Great British Empire. Mr. Farwell is something of an expert on this period and his lucid writing is a joy to read. The book brings out the many varied living conditions that existed in the British army of that time. This is more social history than pure military fare, but don't let that discourage the perspective reader. This is not dry stuff about living conditions in the Victorian army, the book is full of amusing anedotes from actual living Victorian soldiers.

They were a peculiar lot these Soldiers of the Queen, who cherished all their old traditions. The army was extremely conservetive in outlook, from Prviate to General. The regiment was the key element which kept it all together. The British army has always been a regimental army, and this was never more so than in the 19th Century. The army proved extremly adaptive to fighting in all the varied conditions within the Empire, and while this abundance of expereince gave it a unique espirit-de-corps, it did not prepare it well to fight any European conflicts. The British only barely managed to field a few full strength Corps at the beginning of the Great War in 1914. This was in no small way due to the Reforms of Edward Cardwell who created a reserve by linking many of the single battalion regiments together in the 1880s thereby establishing some form of reserve pool of manpower. The system just managed to hold the army together, but created many animosities between time-honored regiments who disliked being linked to each other in adinistractive fashion.

The book goes to great lengths to explain the huge social gulf between officers and enlisted men. The British army was stratified to a degree that no other army of the period entertained. It was an 18th century notion which struggled on into the next century. Farwell brings out these and many other fascinating details as he illustrates the daily life of the Victorian soldier. Those interested in the period of Queen Victoria's Little Wars won't want to put this one down. Its full of fascinating tid-bits of people like Kitchener, Charles Gordon, Wolsley, Frederick Roberts and Churchill, as well as the common soldiers and officers that made up the army. Also, anyone interested in the social anatomy of an army and the society to which it belonged should also find it most rewarding. There are many such Victorian studies out there, but few address the army, which perhaps reflected the age more directly than any other English institution of the time.

The New Dinosaur edited by William Stout is a book on dinosaurs, but there is information in it that is both for adults and children. This is a highly illustrated book that puts dinosaurs in a habitat that was around when they roamed the earth.

"The New Dinosaur" has information in it that helps to answer some of the nagging questions that surround dinosaurs; whether they were warn or cold-blooded, did they have feathers, how did they live... and many more questions.

About the best we can hope for, without going back in time and observe the dinosaurs first-handed, is knowledge with get from the fossil remains and through observation of the animals today and extricate the desired information through extrapolation. This takes a keen sense of observation from the information that you have available and a good sense of imagination, as well.

"The New Dinosaur" is a wonderful book as it answers some of the questions and fills in gaps about the dinosaur lives and times. This book will put your imagination in over drive, making for a most engaging read. The narrative moves quickly, but always it is mindful that the reader is not a paleontologist, making it a read that is pleasurable.

Beautiful book, full of first rate colored pictures and stories about dinosaurs based on what we know or what we believe about dinosaurs! Updated, with something for both kids and adults.

THE NEW DINOSAURS is an updating (with 32 added pages of new pictures and information) of my 1981 book THE DINOSAURS - A Fantastic New View of a Lost Era.

It's been said by many critics that this was the book that sparked the public resurgence in its interest in dinosaurs. I think it most certainly helped; Michael Crichton was nice enough to list my work as an inspiration for his book JURASSIC PARK.

The styles of the book's pictures change from illustration to illustration and are influenced by the great children's book illustrators of the past, artists such as Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Edward Detmold and N. C. Wyeth. THE NEW DINOSAURS not only gave me a chance to update the 1981 book's information and include exciting recent finds (like Giganotosaurus and the Chinese feathered dinosaurs), but to update readers as to my progress and development as an artist as well, displaying what I've learned in the last twenty years.

My "Sue" mural for Walt Disney's Animal Kingdom is included in the new book. This is the very first depiction ever painted of the famous Tyrannosaurus rex "Sue". It is also what I consider to be a "breakthrough" picture in that it is also the very first painting ever made of a specific dinosaur. I consulted with the chief Field Museum paleontologist overseeing the preparation of "Sue" to learn the nature of her pathologies. I incorporated "Sue's" wounds and injuries into my painting so that what the public would finally see was not just a painting of a Tyrannosaurus representing "Sue", but an actual portrait of "Sue" and only "Sue" --- that very specific Tyrannosaurus rex.

In the past twenty years a lot of people have come up to me and told me that they are now paleontologists because they received a copy of THE DINOSAURS as a child. My hope is that THE NEW DINOSAURS influences and inspires another generation of budding scientists.
