Lord Byron at Harrow School: Speaking Out, Talking Back, Acting Up, Bowing Out
Published in Hardcover by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (2000)
Author: Paul Elledge
Amazon base price: $44.95
Average review score:

Byron at Harrow a Relevation
Elledge's wonderful book will be relished by anyone interested in how Byron became Byron (the famous and infamous Byron, the adored Byron, the poet Byron), by anyone interested in the odd ins-and-outs of English public-school education in the early nineteenth century, or by anyone interested in the London theatre of that time. This book provides a continually witty, revealing, and brilliant reading of the long- and short-term effects of Byron's dramatic recitations at Harrow, where he was in residence from 1801 to 1805. It unearths fascinating material about contemporaneous educational practices, relating these at every point to the young Byron's flowering genius and to his struggles within what might be called, with understatement, an unusual family. And when Elledge turns to William Henry West Betty, the thirteen-year-old theatrical sensation whom Byron more or less risked his life to see, and see again, we get a delicious picture of celebrity mania to rival the later nineteenth-century tumult over Liszt. The book is beautifully written, its sentences gem-cut. Elledge wears his immense learning lightly and manages to combine vast scholarship and keen interpretation without the slightest loss of narrative and dramatic interest. It's pungent, fast-paced, and hard to put down. An award-winning performance.

The Loss: A Novella and Two Stories (Writings from an Unbound Europe)
Published in Hardcover by Northwestern University Press (1998)
Authors: Vladimir Makanin, Byron Lindsey, and Bryon Lindsey
Amazon base price: $59.00
Average review score:

"The Loss" is a delightful combination of humour and pathos.
The three interwoven narratives are funny, sad and poignant, and the hero is a combination of resolve and absurdity as he doggedly digs his tunnel. This is a charming story, beautifully told and translated.

practical guide for students or professionals
This book has been used as required text in a college management class, students responses were extremely positive. There is good use of contemporary management terminology and practical applications of the implications of management ideas. Students particularly appreciated the author's utilization of clear ,informative exercises to illustrate management concepts. Students indicated that the team building, motivating, transformation, becoming multicultural and manging stress chapters were timely and important. The strongest support for the book was evidenced by the fact that most of the students planned to keep the book for use in professional careers. I am so impressed with the book that I frequently give it as a gift to professionals who give lectures to my classes.

Wonderful!
This is a wonderful book. It's filled with hope, love and inspiration. As a daily guide, it is right up there with the Bible, only much easier to understand. The only problem I have is with the "good and evil" part -- that there is no evil. That doesn't make sense, because it contradicts the Bible big time. The other 99% is right on. If you're looking for help in your spiritual journey, you'll love this one.

Must have reference book
You need this book if you want to know where to eat in Montreal. This book was indispensable when we visited there. Also tells you which are "off-license", or BYOB and let you bring your own wine. The author gives detailed descriptions of the atmosphere, room and cuisine in reviews that run 3-5 pages. Capsule reviews in the front of the book are informative when you don't have time to read the full review.

The Morning Comes and Also the Night
Published in Hardcover by Xlibris Corporation (2001)
Author: Byron J. MacDonald
Amazon base price: $31.99
Average review score:

A great overview of the end times
Though not obvious from its title, this book provides a well-written overview of the Bible's description of the end times.

It reviews the descriptions in Revelation and several other books in the Old and New Testament in a clear way, and weaves them together into a compelling argument that we are now the last generation. It also describes the role of the USA in these times, with clear interpretation.

As a old pastor once told me, Byron MacDonald is truly a man of God. His warning and above all, his hope for the redeeming power of faith are clearly and powerfully presented in a way accessible to all.
