Great shots!!
I bought this book as a Christmas present for my 13 yr old son. So when it came in I decided to flip through it. The photographs are very vivid with captions and descriptions for each. I showed my husband who then wanted show his brother and I practically had to drag the book from them so my son wouldn't see. It's the kind of book you could linger over and enjoy with someone else.

Vivid, Bone-Rattling, Gut-Sucking Shots of Great NFL Action!
Every NFL fan should be lucky enough to have this book. It is clearly a classic and deserves many more than five stars.

This book contains over 100 photographs from the NFL, mostly since 1958. They are very well reproduced, and the captions are excellent for putting the images in context. The book is improved by a foreword by Joe Namath in which he discusses his favorite photographs in the book and an introduction by Tom Barnidge, the editor, in which he explains the special opportunities and challenges of photographing the NFL.

Almost all of the teams are represented in the book. Some are obviously more represented than others because of their greater past success and longer franchise histories. Part of the book's appeal is seeing some of your favorite players from your team during heroic moments. Packers, Cowboys, Dolphins, Giants, Bears, Rams, Bronco and 49er fans will be the most pleased.

At another level, the book is about remembering many of the highlights of the NFL . . . ones that you may have seen on television, or (if you are lucky) in person.

The images are concentrated in the last ten years so that younger fans will not feel left out. But fans who are over 50 will think that this volume was made just for them.

Fans of all ages will be fascinated by the photographs from the 1930s and 1940s with the old-style helmets, fans huddled under straw bales, and less active play.

The variety of photographs is superb. Every aspect of the game is covered, from training camp to accepting congratulations at the end of the Super Bowl. You have offense, defense, special teams, and even referees finding themselves in the middle of the action (during plays and breaking up fights). You also have celebrations in the end zone, complaints to officials, and impending disaster (such as the photograph of half the Cowboy team about to land on one player)

If you are like me, the most special part of the book comes in the fine detail that you cannot see as a spectator at the stadium or on television. I was totally arrested by the expressions on the players' faces, as they were sacked, smashed, grabbed by the face mask, and annihilated. Even more remarkable was to see the amazing athletic feats (a jump pass by Jack Kemp, Lynn Swann catching a pass fully stretched out, and Barry Sanders making an incredible cut) at the players' eye level.

Some of the famous shots that I remember are in the book, like Namath after winning Super Bowl III, a bloodied Y.A. Title on his knees in defeat in 1964, Bart Starr scoring behind Jerry Kramer, and John Elway in victory after the Super Bowl win. But most of the photographs were new to me. That made reading the book a process of discovery as well as a reminiscence.

Many of the color photographs extend over two pages, and were carefully selected so that the key aspects of the action are not lost in the crease.

Only three things could have made this book even better -- more photographs, larger pages, and commentaries by the players about the images they appear in. Perhaps if we buy enough books, there will be another edition to add those attractive elements.

Until then, this book is the perfect antidote to football-less days and evenings.

After you have finished enjoying the book, I suggest that you consider starting a collection of your own favorite sports photographs. I began doing this a number of years ago. Most prints are not overly expensive, and the pleasure they bring is amazing.

Give 'em a good shot!

Exceptional!
I could not believe how all the intensity, courage, gracious, spirit and strength of the NFL can be displayed in those great photos. Simply marvelous!

A highly enjoyable how-to artbook
Ceramic Extruding: Inspiration & Technique by professional studio artists Tom and Jean Latka, is a thoroughly "user friendly" guide ideal for both aspiring ceramics workers and dedicated hobbyists to the use of a ceramic extruder or pugmill in new and wondrous ways to craft memorable and adventurous artworks in this challenging medium. More than 200 color photographs illustrate the easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions, as well as display possibilities for the finished product. Ceramic Extruding is a highly enjoyable how-to artbook and a strongly recommended addition to any personal, professional, or art school reference collection.

Art teacher loves this book
If you have been waiting for the best book on ceramic extrusion, it is
available now Ceramic Extruding by Jean and Tom Latka successfully answers the question of, "Why are all of those clay extruders rusting on potter's walls?" Their answer is thus: Ceramists, like everyone else, have to be inspired to create beautiful work. This book acts as a magical muse for artists by showing over 300 quality photos of beautiful work by some of the finest international contemporary artists working in the medium today. This book's focus is on the recent emergence of extruded ceramic art as dynamic and surprisingly varied form of creative expression.

"Though the words extrude and extrusion are not ones most people encounter in everyday conversation, we live in a world where we are surrounded by extruded objects. Our brick houses and their tile roofs are made from extruded clay. We shower on extruded tiles, send our smoke and fumes up extruded chimneys and our waste down extruded sewers. From the round O's in your breakfast cereal to the pasta on your dinner plate, extruded objects occupy every conceivable nook and cranny of our lives". Beginning with bricks, Ceramic Extruding details the history of the extruder then demonstrates the ease, as well as the necessity, of using an extruder in one's pottery. The book is organized in a logical manner in order to guide the reader by employing numerous step-by-step instructional methods.
Essentially, Ceramic Extruding is a how-to book and the projects gradually become more advanced. Apart from the photos, another subject that distinguishes this book from other books on the market is its comprehensive theory of extrusion and was the only chapter I had to read twice. It is a difficult subject. The authors give detailed information on why extruders act in the manner in which they do. For instance, I didn't know that clay moves faster down the center of the barrel than clay closer to the walls. This information is useful for artists who want to design their own dies.

Educators take note: As a teacher, I know how it feels to give students a
blank canvas and ask them to be creative. In contrast Ceramic Extruding
shows how to create a limitless supply of foundation material from the
extruder for the student.

The book truly has an international cast of artists, photos of ceramics
spanning from Australia to Inge Pedersen in Norway. I became aware of
several renowned European ceramicists. Antonio Cumella, Alessio Tasca, Elina
Brandt-Hanson, Jim Robison. Other artist's work that impressed me was Ken Williams, Jutta Golas, and Jack Sures. Jean and Tom Latka have an excellent body of work apart from each other, but their collaborative work shines superior.

Everyone has been waiting for the next thing in clay. Well Latka's Flying
Hybrid Extruder and Michael Sherrill's novel extruder/wheel could lead to
the new revolution in clay. The quick release system makes these extruders user friendly. The expansion box is larger than most other machines, and in the case of Flying Hybrid, it out performs slab machines by making slabs faster and more superior. Oddly enough, slab machines compress the clay from the center of the roller to the edges. This creates an unstable molecular structure and cracks result. The clay is evenly compressed in the Vertical Flying Hybrid. An 18"x24" slab is the result when an 8" cylindrical shape 18" long is extruded and sliced lengthwise.

I would like to sum up with a quote from Michael Cohen. "It is important to find a well-made extruder that is adaptable to your needs. As for the
wheel, once you learn how to use it, one question ultimately remains: What are you going to make? After mastering centrifugal force and friction, perhaps it's now time to use gravity and inertia to make a personal statement. Like throwing, it only looks easy."

"Extruding clay takes on a wonderful new meaning when you use the extruder as you would any tool---as one step in the making process, not as an end in itself. The extruder's contribution to the studio can be as profound and influential as the potters wheel --- a slab for the imagination to leap off from". Jean Latka

Two thumbs up! Burn the other extruder books; this is the only one you will ever need.
I am an college art teacher at U.S.C. and find it the best book for my introduction course on the Extruder.

Excellent book. Easy to read.
I bought and read this book when my son was first diagnosed with CP approximately 10 years ago. It contained a wealth of useful information and was easy to read. I especially enjoyed the parents comments at the end of each chapter which helped me relate my own feelings and frustrations with other parents.

a wonderful resource
This book is thoughtfully and thoroughly written. It provides a wealth of information and resource on the many issues of raisng and caring for a child with Cerebal Palsy. I am a Registered Nurse and found the information to be clear, helpful, and direct. Each chapter has parents' statements which can be reassuring and insightful. It's always nice to hear you're not alone in what you are going through, thinking, and feeling. The book will teach you many things and it can help you to get organized in care planning for your child. It also addresses taking into condsideration the necessity of caring for yourself and other members of your family. I am the Mama of two boys, 31 and 17 mo. old. My older son has mild CP.

A wonderful resource for parents of CP kids!!
One of our triplets has mild CP and we have struggled with many issues dealing with her day-to-day care and health issues. This book provides almost ALL the answers to the questions that we as parents of a CP child. I highly recommend this book.

A view of the future
This book is a classic for all of us who are looking for a change of pace and a better way of life. With the Virtual Office a reality, we can work virtually anywhere, so why not choose the pastoral life? We refer our readers who harbor such dreams to this book again and again. Sarah Edwards, author The Practical Dreamer's Handbook.

The best of it's kind
This is the best book of it's kind that I have read - out of about 5 or so. Written in 1997, the authors considered the Internet and telecommuting as well. And it is nearly as relevant to Australia (where I find myself) as to the USA. Easy to read, it contains many useful hints, tables, and resources. Valuable questionaires and lists. What you should and what you shouldn't. What you need, and what you don't. Even so, we also had a "First Try". But nothing ventured is nothing learned.

Loved this book!
Your book is well informed and plenty of resource that gave me more confidence. Reread it few times. I really enjoy reading it very much. Thanks

A Great Hero
This book is excellent! But, I am biased. Col Tom Yarborough was my Professor of Aerospace Studies at Indiana University and a major reason why I joined the Air Force. He a great and inspiring man. I highly recommend this book by a true hero.

Outstanding, very readable and fast paced- as good as Clancy
Anyone who is an armchair flyboy or military aviation buff will find this book to be one of the best. Col. Yarborough's writing style keeps you on the edge of your chair as you follow his incredible hair raising missions in Veitnam and Laos. Best on all this is not fiction but the real item.

I could not put the book down.
This is by far the best book I have read on Vietnam. It takes you to the air with the pilot like you are in the back seat. It's hard hitting and lots of action. I highly recommend it.

Excellent doll making book
I bought this book to learn more about doll and puppet making. I learn a lot about different types of dolls and the doll making process. If you are a puppeteer this is a great book with excellet ideas. If you just want to learn this book will inspire you.

Not only beautiful, but useful!
"Designing the Doll" gives many great examples of remarkable artist dolls, but it also gives some excellent how-tos that will help you realize your own designs. This isn't a project-oriented book; there are no real step-by-step instructions that will help you make a specific doll. Rather, this book gives the artist a good grounding in basic technique. Where you go from there is entirely your own business. Some of the techniques Oroyan covers are: sculpting, jointing, soft bodies, wire armature and materials. You'll come away from this book with enough information to design and follow through with your own projects.

It's been a long time since I made a doll, but this book has got me wanting to try all sorts of new things.

warning! warning!
one glance inside this book will draw you into the wonderful world of doll making,it will make you want to create your own,or, re-create one of the many appealing characters presented by the author, along with a broad spectrum of designs of many other doll artists with amazing vision and talent.this book would be a bargain at twice the price.easy to understand guidelines illustrations and color photos only add to the value.

Dinotopia

Authors: James Gurney and Tom Lopez
Amazon base price: $22.50
Average review score:

Unequalled achievement
This audio version is a masterpiece and is destined to become a classic of audio drama along with Welles' "War of the Worlds" and the plays of Norman Corwin. ZBS has outdone itself.

Extraordinary tales of whimsy for youthful readers.
I first read this book at a young age when I was still fascinated with the world of dinosaurs. Gotten over the addiction by now, being almost out of highschool, I still look back on my memories with this book, and its sister book: "The World Beneath", with great fondness. The illustrations, no less that artistry, are high above the par of your average children's picture book. And, they are only outdone by the spellbinding story; brought to life with the loving detail that could only be conjured by a true dinosaur fan. This book would be a welcome addition to any child's wish list and makes for a lasting impression.

Beautiful book, interesting read
Although this book is considered a children's book, or something for young teens, I believe it's enjoyable for people of all ages. The artwork is gorgeous and the detail Gurney puts into creating his world is amazing. The book is written in the form of a journal, written mostly by Arthur Denison, but with a few entries written by his son, Will. Because Arthur is a scientist, Gurney can believably put in a great deal of detailed information about the world of Dinotopia. I loved reading this book and I especially loved looking at it.

Great guide for asthmatics
I have read a number of books and articles on asthma. This is by far the most comprehensive, up to date and it is easy to understand, too. I checked a copy from my library but it is so good that I am going to purchase it for my personal reference library as well as my child's school nurse. This book even has short section explaining cough-variant asthma, which is what both me and my son have...this is a little known type of asthma which in my case was mis-diagnosed for 35 years.

Lifesaver
Read Plaut's book shortly after my oldest son had his first asthma attack which nearly resulted in respiratory failure. Plaut's book is by far my best single source for useful information about causes, prevention and treatment. I consult it regularly and highly recommend it for anyone with or concerned about asthma. It was a lifesaver in my family!!!

A must have for patients, families, & health providers!
I'm a medical librarian/information specialist and I know that there are 'other resources,' but this 'Asthma Guide' should be your first choice because it provides all one needs to understand and manage asthma! I've had asthma for 25 years! And after all this time and treatment, I am reading Dr. Plaut's Asthma Guide, wishing I had this comprehensive resource sooner! After reading only a few chapters, I've already learned so much more to help me and others like me. Thank you Dr. Plaut!

A good Resource for planting ANNUALS
I must admit - I do not love annuals- Having said that much to preface my comments- For me this is the only book I need on this subject! It covers planning, planting and maintenence.

The planning section seems especially helpful and will be a tremendous help in achieving a finished product that fits a desired look. The color planning seems very well addressed with particular attention the area to be planted in formulation the design elements (suggested on graph paper).

The writer seems to love annuals and it shows! The photography is beautiful. This would make a nice housewarming gift!

Annuals Will Feed Your Gardening Creativity!
Where perennials and shrubs provide static and permanent elements in your garden, annuals are a fluid element that you can change from year to year. This book gives you all the backround you need to get started with an attractive Annual garden.

It is divided into three parts: garden design; making them grow; and an illustrated guide to many common annuals. The design section details the process of selecting plants, not only for color, but compatability with their location and neighboring plants. The second section will help cure your "brown thumb" if you have difficulty keeping things alive. You will learn how to properly feed and water your plants. The last section has color photos and great detail about each plant presented; Latin name, sowing, growing and care are here.

This book is not only useful for researching and designing your garden, it is beautifully illustrated with rich color photographs throughout. There are also some color diagrams where appropriate.

Write your name in this book and chain it to your coffee table. After seeing your results the first season, the neighbors may be tempted to carry it off for their own use!

Truly lovely and informative book
You may not look at annuals the same way again after reading this excellent book. It is full of ideas on how to use them in your garden and should offer any gardener bored with those boring old marigolds some inspiration! You can tell that the authors are passionate about their subject but the photographs alone could make this a book worth purchasing. Simply magnificient photography! A beautiful book and one of the best I have ever seen on annuals.

King of the Hill
This is one of the best books I have ever read. Joe Torre, through his life's journey, is in my eyes the King of the Hill. All the things he went through in life that he conquered make him the man he is today, and what a gift the Yankees got!

For everyone who said 'Joe who?' when George hired him as manager, I hope you read this book and find out the man behind #6!

The Best Encourging Book I've Ever Read
Chasing the Dream is the best book I've ever read. It let's people know that goal reaching is possible, if you work for it. I now know that I can't procrastinate practice. If I want to achieve my dream I must work for it. Most people believe that goal reaching is impossible, but since I've read this book, my dream is coming closer, and closer to being achived. I defiantly would like to thank Joe Torre and Tom Verducci for making my dream possible and encouraging me to get on the right track. Thanks a million and one. Hopefully you'll see me in the 2008 Olympics for softball (i'll be the one pitching in the final games for the USA team) :)

A must-read for any New York baseball fan.
Chronicles Joe Torre's life from childhood growing up in Brooklyn to his Championship Season with the Bronx Bombers. Insightful and honest look into Torre's personal life and all his days spent on the field and in the dugout.
