Terrific
This book is a wonderful source of information for anyone interested in names and their origins. It's also great if you're looking for a pseudonym or the name of a fictional character. If you're creating a strong female protagionist, then names like Ali (greatest)Toni (without a peer)and Sibyl (prophetess) might be good places to start. Highly recommended.

A one of a kind book!
This is a wonderful book for not only expectant parents, but also for anyone who has an interest in the origins of names and/or numerology. As a numerologist, I was very impressed with the information provided for each number... the characteristics, traits, etc. Instructions and worksheets are included to help figure any name's numerical value. I cannot recommend this book enough. I refer to it often!

Excellent book of birds and pictures and poems for children.
I am an early childhood teacher in Queens. I have used "Out of the Words of Birds" book in my classroom. The children enjoyed the colorful photos and the funny rhymes. They became familiar with all kinds of birds. When we took a trip to the bird aviary in Flushing Meadow Park they were able to recognize the birds from Mr. Goldfarb's book. In our performing arts show the children will be singing Robin in the Rain.

a great book for kids
children of all ages enjoy it. adults do too

Pantothenic Acid works!
In her book Phyllis Eisenstein says she first read about pantothenic acid in Adelle Davis's book "Let's Get Well." I read Adelle Davis's book over 10 years ago and tried the pantothenic acid (500 mg. twice a day) with food and it absolutely works for me. It took about a month for me, but the pain and swelling in my hands miraculously subsided. I've realized that I'll have to take this the rest of my life because when I quit taking it the pain, swelling and burning of my hands and joints returns.

Excellent Book
This is an excellent book for anyone who is suffering from arthritis. I personally know from relatives who suffer from arthritis that the alternative treatments in this book actually work! And I am not a fan of alternative medicine.

It's a Keeper
I liked the book. I didn't think I'd be much interested in a "woman's" book, so when a friend recommended it, I was doubtful. I was pleasantly surprised. There is something enjoyable on every page. Sometimes it is funny, at other times it had me remembering similar occasions in my own life, and looking at them from a fresh angle. I have been to Mogollon, and this book seems to capture the essence of the place. It is easy reading. I enjoyed it so much, I read it aloud to a friend so I could experience it all over again.

The Painted Clock
The Painted Clock is written as poetry in prose, drawing the reader into the landscape, the community, the story, the mind of the writer with keen observation of the inner skeleton of characters and relationships. Looking beyond surface presentation straight to the core, the author lets us experience Mogollon and its inhabitants as vibrant and real. She writes with clarity and wit and a wisdom that rejoices in watching life unfold.

Caution: This AMAZING Book May (Hopefully) Incite Mind Riots
Having never even heard of Phyllis Chesler, I entrusted that she was a noteworthy writer upon finding out she (this) was published on the ever almighty Common Courage Press. And of course, the title reeled me in (as someone who has an avid appreciation for a)originality and b)mastery of the language arts).

Although really intelligent, I'm a fairly blunt girl, so I'm just going to say this: Phyllis is a badass. I am blown away---and bitter that knowledge of this woman has escaped my fumblesome world of feminism thus long. I'm going to be frightfully honest once again: I haven't even finished the entire book yet(!) Perhaps when you ALSO hear that I've NEVER been inspired to write an on-line review before--no matter how 'great' or poignant the book---you will begin to understand what it is about Phyllis Chesler that sets her apart from the others...

Her knowledge is impeccable, her arguments are flawless and her style? Riveting. Militant yet sensitive, radical yet familial. Her topic matter? Brilliant. Chesler boldly sidelines the rhetorical and instead challenges the candy-coated "stand by your sisters but not at the expense of your man" approach to feminism, as spearheaded by the ever-contradictory Naomi Wolf, full-on, in an essay that not only redirects the feminist mind AWAY from it's 'fad' stalemate (read: passivity, commerciality, safeness) and BACK to the core severity it demands, but also illustrates who the REAL pioneer(s) of feminism is(are).

In heartwrenching detail will she explain why there NEEDS to be better legal protection for prostitutes. With great acuity will she describe the perils of 'male uterus envy'. Her words will leave your mind seething, your pulse racing, and your spirit awakening. (I found myself taking multiple 'pacing' breaks and possessed with the urge to take up boxing!!)

At the end of her introduction/PLEA to the rest of us(!)---aptly entitled 'Heroism Is Our Only Alternative'---Chesler makes the statement: "I've been envisioning a sovereign feminist government for a long time and that vision guides me still." A visionary as well, I've shared the same inspirational goal, I confess (much to the dissuasion of others, 'concerned' about my idealism--?! Note to them: Don't 'worry' about me, although I'll continue to worry about YOU!)

As a radical political and spiritual activist AND a writer, too, I am newly determined and inspired. And thrilled to have such a brilliant, beautiful mentor. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution, and I for one can't (never could!) sit idly by, nursing Starbucks-friggin-Frappuccinos and poo-pooing radical activism, as if all is truly hunky-dory, while my sisters (and even my brothers) suffer.

Overall? Buy this book. Case closed.

I desperately HOPE Phyllis reads this review because as a writer, I KNOW how important it is for your message to not go unheard. So if you ARE reading this, Phyllis, THANKS for putting YOUR heroic mind to paper in an effort to educate and enlighten. For painstakingly resuscitating a 'dead' issue and giving an 'outdated' cause fresh urgency. Surely your efforts feel for naught at times in light of the present generation's all but abandonment of the cause, but your plight IS in fact much appreciated---much akin to the appreciation a brave yet solitary sailor feels for a lighthouse at sea, especially amidst the turbulent waters of today. Your voice illuminates the path for the revolutionaries of today. Rest assured that we DO exist, we just haven't united. (YET!)

Oh yes!
Don't bother getting comfortable in your bed to read this book. Chesler inspires the reader in a powerful way. The ONLY way to read this book is standing up with a raised, triumphant fist in the air!

THE BEST herb book - for beginners or old-timers alike!
This book is apt to be overlooked in favor of glossy pictures, and what a shame!! It has so much useful information to offer, and the unique format of organizing info monthly is helpful. I own a shop and reccomend this as my favorite book, and everyone comes back to tell me how great it is. When my copy arrived in the mail years ago, I never went to sleep that night (my husband will attest!!) and now I have an eleven year old herb shop that is going strong. And this is due in no small measure to this wonderful lady and her great book. A must have for anyone interested in the wonderful world of herbs!!

This is the best book for beginners-bar none!!!
This is definitely the best herbal book for the beginner or the experienced, to plant, grow harvest, cook, craft, it's all here. I have a hard time to put it down, in order to get anything don

WONDERFUL!! Entertaining as well as useful.
The author begins the book by giving the reader an in-depth look at the trials of her own life. This is very fascinating and useful, as the reader understands her insights to be based on real experience and personal enlightenment. Thus, the reader feels a connection with her, and becomes very open to the wisdom she beautifully articulates as she transitions into a pragmatic discussion of "A Psychic Perspective." The astute knowledge she shares with the reader reveals a powerful and irreproachable perception of how to become personally successful in all areas of your life. Readers will benefit from her gentle and comprehensive guidance. A Psychic Perspective showed me that spiritual growth is a no-nonsense approach to dealing with real life issues.

An honest and revealing view of self and psychicness
This is a wonderful book. I read it cover to cover in two sittings!

The author reveals an honest, and sometimes painful, look at herself, her life and her insights. Insights that have helped her and how they can help you, and how you can help yourself.

The honesty portrayed in this book is sincere and I felt that it came from a place of positivity. Her advice is always directed to you , the reader, and never loses its focus.

Once you read her story, you'll know she really has insight into life and living, all in a positive vein.

This study guide is awesome!!
I just love this guide. I use it every day to start my day at work. It really gets me to meditate on God's wonderful word. It is so great, that I am buying it for a friend.

Kudos!
This book revolutionized my own Bible study time. The Quiet Time Companion uses several different approaches to freshen up personal study times. Weekly sessions may study a single passage, a character, or a word. Other sessions will look at the same passage from several different perspective or will spend two or more weeks on an indepth study of a section of scripture.

This multi-themed approach keeps your Bible study from becoming routine. You will not find a three month study of Leviticus. It cuts down on the theological/philosophic mumbo-jumbo giving straight but not dumbed down look at the Word of God.

Another innovative approach the authors used in creating this devotional aid is that the weekly sessions are composed of 5 lessons, giving you 2 days of individual study (the authors do make some suggestions) but this is an excellent opportunity to work in preparing your Sunday School lesson during the weekend personalized study.

The authors are to be commended! Bravo!
