The writers of this excellent series have smartly chosen to keep story arcs fairly brief lasting about five issues. This allows each trade paperback to contain two arcs. The two in this volume are excellent.
The first arc finds the JSA being attacked by the Injustice Society and Johnny Sorrow. The Flash winds up accidently travelling back in time to ancient Egypt in his efforts to defeat Sorrow. (Time travel isn't something treated lightly like in Dr. Who.) This ties the two arcs together nicely and also relates the origins of three legends: Dr. Fate, Captain Marvel and Hawkman.
Other surprises wait as Black Adam joins the JSA and the exploration of Hawkman and Hawkgirl's relationship deepens. Kendra discovers she's really Hawk's wife reincarnated, but everything isn't peachy keen. All in all, it's well written and art is top notch. Enjoy!

Heal Your Headache provided me with the first believable explanation of my condition and how all of the symptoms related, and most importantly what I could do about it. By following the three step process in the book I've started getting my headaches under control, and minimizing all of the other symptoms: balance problems, confusion, tremors, nausea, light and sound sensitivity...
Dr. Buchholz provides enough examples to make any headache sufferer recognize himself or herself. And he lays out a complete plan of action that should help anyone. It's not particularly easy, especially for me to cut out ALL of the food triggers, but I've reduced my need for painkillers, and am seeing longer and longer periods headache free.
I recommend this book for anyone who suffers from frequent headaches, regardless of whether they consider them to be migraines.

However, older students dislike it, because it was too fictional. We felt it didn't explain these concepts well enough for us. Overall, we wouldn't recommend it for grades higher than fourth grade.
I love Kellogg's illustrating! I would just love to jump right into the pages and be a part of all the action. His characters are drawn with such unique faces. And each page is filled with numerous details and endless nooks and cranies. Each page begs to be explored over and over.
If you have never enjoyed a book illustrated by Steven Kellogg now is the time!
The writing in this particular book is also very well done. The little facts about the number 1 million are really interesting. For instance it would take a fish bowl the size of a city harbor to hold a million goldfish!
This book really helps kids and adults understand a very abstract concept. How many of us really have a good grasp on how much a million really is? This book definitely puts it in perspective!
Read it once and you'll have to read it again and again!

It is THE text book of our "Alcoholics Victorious" group, assisting souls to the Joy and Freedom available to anybody... especially those in recovery... through God's True and Living Word.
I have read many, many books and spiritual publications in my life-long "program" of healing; this is the Word of God- containing the essence of the required healing power- written in a language easy for the recovering person to accept and understand.
I thank the authors for their obedience to His guidance, I thank the publishers for their making this resource avalable to the population, and - most of all- I thank God for His Love, His Mercy, and His Son, Jesus, for taking our disease, and freeing us from our bondage.
If you are in recovery, you will be better off with this Bible. In Christ, Amen.
I purchased this bible in August 2002. Since then, I have found answers in it that no amount of personal or group bible study using other bibles, Christian radio, professional counseling by therapists or pastors, church attendance, or prayer have given me.
Almost every page has foot-notes, devotionals, in-depth comments, which teach about addictions and how to gain freedom, details about the road to recovery, all within a Christ-centered framework using the 12 Alcoholics Anonymous steps.
You can look up just about any life-experience topic in the excellently organized index/concordance in the back of the Bible, to focus on passages which help you understand who you are, what you do, why you do it, and ways to gain release from whatever plagues you, and get closer to God in order to gain peace and restoration.
I have abandoned all my other bibles in favor of this one. I would urge anyone who needs help in self-control, discipline, overcoming compulsive/obsessive behaviors, to dig into the Life Recovery Bible. You will be blessed abundantly.
If you simply want to grow spiritually, and you have no addictions, this bible is also for you.
Every day I can look forward to new insights and teachings in this bible, which I can apply immediately to my life.
The text is easy to read for such a large Bible, the NLT translation is easy to understand, and the footnotes and other devotionals do not interfere with my enjoyment of every page.
There is another Life Recovery Bible in the NIV (New International Version), which in my opinion is not nearly as good as this one.
The primary reason I purchased it was to read the study helps, as I know that he has some tremendous insights into the recovery process from a biblical perspective. I was not disappointed. I received a bonus though when I began reading the text of the Bible. The New Living Translation is without a doubt one of the most readable (without sacrificing accuracy) translations that I have read. It is like reading one of those good novels that you cannot put down. Within a week of purchasing it, I had read the books of Acts, Romans, Ephesians, I and II Timothy, and am halfway through the book of Matthew. It is that good.
One of the problems with older translations (i.e. the KJV) is that you have to mentally translate what is being said into language that you are familiar with. Its like a person who's first language is Spanish, but speaks English fluently as a second language. Unconsciously, they have to filter an English conversation through their natural Spanish proclivity. When they communicate in Spanish, that process is not necessary. That's the way that I found reading the NLT. It freed my mind of a distraction so that I was more free to hear the Holy Spirit. Doing so gave me some insight into one passage in particular that I had never received reading other versions.
I would highly recommend this Bible to new believers. I would also recommend it (especially for devotional reading) to seasoned bible students.
As has been said in several other reviews, the study aids are helpful to ANY Christian. We are all in recovery. Some of our addictions are just more socially acceptable than others. I give this Bible 5 stars!

The paper is crisp, semi-glossy, and brilliant white; the cover and page edges are guilded; the typeface is sharp and crystal-clear; and the full-color endpapers are truly magnificent.
In all and every way this is a truly magnificent and sumptuous edition -- with perhaps the single exception of price. And even then, with such a marvelous work, that is to be expected!

"Anointed Expository Preaching" is divided into three sections. First, "The Walk to Pursue" concerns the preacher's life, emphasizing that God is more concerned with what we are than what we do. He investigates the preacher's relationship to God's Word, his need for the spirit-filled life, and the requirements of being a man of God. He also investigates the preacher's work in the context of the pastoral ministry. Second, "The Work to Perform" examines the method of preaching. Here you learn the "how to's" of expository preaching. I found this the most helpful and the strongest segment of the book. Clear instruction is given on the methodology of preparing an expository message from beginning to end. Third, "The Word to Proclaim" looks at the message that is to be proclaimed. Emphasis is placed on the preacher's need for God's anointing to carry out his calling. You will also learn how to apply the sermon to your audience, how to effectively present an invitation, and methods of conserving the evangelistic harvest.
The greatest value of the book is as an encyclopedia of information detailing the process of expository sermon composition and delivery. The authors' passion for the subject is clearly sensed and the organization of the text makes it a quality resource manual. Portions of the book read much like a sermon. Perusal of this work provides a lesson on effective alliteration. It does have somewhat of an "old time" feel to it, as if you are reading something written in another generation. The 396-page book includes an appendix and extensive endnotes. "Anointed Expository Preaching" is a valuable resource for anyone desiring to improve his understanding of expository preaching and skill as an expository preacher.
Ok, now why would a layman even be interested in this book? Simple, with all the experiental preaching going on these days my search for: "what makes a good preacher?" and "how do you know what good preaching is?" has led me to this book.
I have known about expository preaching (and have been priveledged to have listened to preachers who actually preach consistantly from the Word) of course, but wanted to learn more. The Olford's book does a fabulous job. First and foremost they define the role of a preacher (the Call of God, The Word, living the life of a Godly man; being a man of God, and doing the work of God). Secondly they go into the preparation of the sermon (I have listened to many preachers that sound as if they prepared their sermon the night before, and I have had some even confess to me that that was precisely what they had done!). Lastly they explain delivery of the sermon (proclamation of the Word AND Salvation).
This book describes that preaching the Word should be an exciting experience (in the preparation, delivery and expectation of change in individuals by the Lord)! I especially like the author's emphasis on fearless preaching (i.e. speaking on how today's happenings compare to the Word). Definitely no P.C. preaching here!
It now holds a prominent spot on my bookshelf! Definitely worth the purchase price.
