A basicmanual of seamanship for the naval officer
Seamanship : Fundamentals for the Deck Officer, is a basic manual intended (the impression I get) as a manual for officers in training for US Naval and coastguard service. It is a fairly complete manual, covering just about everything from splicing rope, wire and the use of pulleys to the organization of watches and ship command to navagation to the the use of flags and handsignals to helicopter pilots.
I'm sure there are newer editions out since this one (I believe there's one call Anapolis Guide to Seamanship or something similiar.), but as it is, I found it quite informative and even a little useful. I can now splice a wire rope correctly.

Seven Keys to Spiritual Renewal
I read this book after my 17 year marriage failed. If only I read this book before the divorce my marriage might have been saved! Dr. Stephen Arterburn and David Stoop give some biblical-based insight on how to avoid and resolve lifes problems and issues. Most relationship problems indicate a deeper spiritual problem. I believe this book has helped me become more in-tune with God's will for my life. You will not regret reading this book.

Lots of men nead to read (hear) this stuff
I have just finished listening to the audio version of this book. There are so many of my friends who could benefit if they were to take the time and have the courage to hear this message. Sexual addiction/temptation are so common in our society and men just accept this behavior for themselves as "natural tendencies". This book addresses key questions: Am I a sex addict and how can I tell? Is there pornography or lustful desires in my secret self? If my wife or mother were to find out about my secrets would they be shocked and shamed? The audio book is a series of tapes of a radio talk show where listeners are calling in and are having to deal with sexual addiction in their families. The stories are heart wrenching and should be a wakeup call for all men who dabble in the secret world of pornography, sexual fantasies, and self gratification.

An Old Master With Plenty Left To Say
Academics have never been thrilled with Stephen Vincent Benet (1898-1943), whose polished but accessible writings--notably his magazine short stories--went straight to the heart of Everyman and Everywoman.
Everyman remembers; and in the wake of the tragedy of 9/11 this neglected master seems to have more to say than ever--about his country and the world, their history and their destiny.
One academic who is ready to listen is David Garrett Izzo. He appears to have thought about doing a collection of essays on Benet as long ago as 1998, when he played a prominent role in a Benet centenary observance in the Bethlehem, PA area. The resulting book, in which Izzo shares the editing responsibility with Lincoln Konkle, should do something at last to stir up interest in this once-famous writer on the campus. The essays cover many aspects of Benet's output and career--from the famous Civil War narrative "John Brown's Body" to his historical and science fiction stories, such as "The Devil and Daniel Webster" and "By The Waters of Babylon." But to this reviewer three of the essays are paramount in interest. They are Izzo's own piece on Benet and his literary colleageus at Yale; Thomas Carr Benet's remembrance of his father, and Patricia McAndrew's paper on the marriage of Stephen and Rosemary Benet.

A wonderful book, for Adults as well as children..
Survival, through the eyes of a fox in the Scottish Highlands. Not a "fun" book nor a lightweight "animal" book. Serious reading if you are interested in wildlife. Written before many of the environmental issues of recent years. David Stephen's story is so good that you can actually see the world through the eyes of a fox. Other animals are also brilliantly portrayed.. Look for the evil cat! Ray Dart

A must read for any supervisor or mid level manager
This is by far and away the best book on supervision that I have ever read. I have used this book extensively to train first line supervisors and mid level managers in Eastern Europe to develop their management skills. The book effectively condenses the management courses I took during a 2 year MBA program into a well-organized manual. The book is easy to read, to the point, and replete with examples. It captures the essential concepts on the margins of each page and provides a review at the end of the chapter. Moreover, it offers case studies and self-assessment tests to reinforce concepts.
This book is an excellent resource for private study, professional programs and universities. My only regret is that this text or its companion, "Management Today" were not utilized in any of my undergraduate or graduate management courses.

Revamped Organization Makes This Bible Even Better
This Thompson Student Bible gets it right. The original Thompson Chain reference was a great bible study tool, with many helps, charts, topical studies and archaeological facts. The problem with the former editions, was the editor's insistence of making the reference material available as appendices, and not in context with the text. One might read about the city of Jericho in the book of Exodus, and then see that somewhere on that page where it is mentioned there was a note indicating an archaeological reference was available. But one had to use the "chain" number and then move to the back of the Bible to find the note in the appendices. Now, in this Thompson Student Bible most of the reference material is contextual -- you will find the reference material on the page where the text addresses it first. Students and first time readers of the Bible will read it and benefit from this organization. There won't be that daunting task of figuring out the organization, or the intimidation factor of having to look up all the reference material in the back. Buy this Bible and give it to your teenager, or buy it for yourself. This is a great way to study the scriptures.

The advice is excellent, easy to read and well organized.
My only reservation is that Quark 4.0 will be released soon, so if you're not currently going to be using the current or prior release, maybe you should wait for the upgrade.
