I had to use this book for AP English...
And let me say that it helped me a lot. My writing got better, and, more importantly, my reading comprehension got better. The "try this" exercises bring out the AWESOMENESS in you... as do the end of the chapter exercises. Not buying this book would be a mistake.

analysis analyzed
rosenwasser's insight into the difference between criticism and analysis is of partiular interest to me. ''writing analytically'' explores the discipline that is the journalist's, the intellegence gathering professional's and the academic's with a lively, engaging style that resembles more the work of such popular non-fiction writer/academics as stephen jay gould and loren teshenti.

The name says it all
Great mix of robots in this book--some "standard" variations on familiar prototypes (using UBS parts) and some pretty out there ones as well that I would have never thought of. Excellent book. I've seen the RIS one that came before this but didn't buy it--I'm going to go back and get it now.

An entertaining biography of a professional cyclist
This book tells the tale of the rise of one of Ireland's greatest professional cyclists, Stephen Roche. It is co-authored by David Walsh, who also wrote the definitive biography of Ireland's other great professional cyclist, Sean Kelly.

Roche describes his humble beginnings as a milk man apprentice for his father through his rise through the ranks to become only the second cyclist to win the "Triple Crown," the Tour of Italy, The Tour of France and the World Championship in 1987.

Packed with details only an insider would know, Roche and Walsh have written a highly entertaining and informative book about the world of professional cycling, the greatest sport in the world.

A favourite book
My son (3 years old) loves planes, trains and automobiles. This story has so many of them (a car, train, boat, plane, dump truck, bicycle, race car, and even a whale!) as it takes you on an adventure whereby when you shout "ALL CHANGE" your mode of transportation changes. The short rhymes are catchy, the graphics are really nice. It's an action-packed adventure to enjoy.

I couldn't put the book down!
I highly recommend this read to anyone interested in WWII or anyone who has experienced it. I'm 32, and I learned a lot about the war that our grandparents didn't like to talk about. The letters that Mr. and Mrs. Lane left behind are true treasures. It was like the letters were being wrote to me. Very romantic, emotional, sad at parts and happy at most. I don't think I've ever read a book so fast, just so I could find out what was happening next. You'll laugh, cry, and WON'T be abole to put it down. This makes a great gift for anyone. I bought one for my grandmother, and she loves it! My grandfather was in the war, and I know she can really relate to it. ENJOY!!

Insight into a furnace of anger in the modern man
"Men today are angry. Their anger is deep-seated and, like their other emotions, carefully guarded and controlled most of the time. They may not know why they're angry."-pg. 12

Can an angry man come to terms with the truth about his manhood, competence, worth, and limitations? Sociologists are saying that the modern man is angry, unsure of how to carry off the masculine role and are straining to live up to the masculine myth.

Some men are angry and they don't even know why.

These angry men are often unwilling to talk about their emotions and have locked themselves deep inside their own personal thoughts and feelings.

Does this sound familiar?

-A driver cuts in front of him or tailgates and he freaks, calling the driver all things awful.
-He is passed over for an expected promotion. The world ends.
-Spending the holidays with the in-laws is the worst part of his life
-You don't meet his domestic and romantic expectations.

Is there a furnace of anger burning inside the man in your life that is just waiting to explode or boil over into your life? Has it already started boiling over? Is it presently poisoning your relationship?

"The Angry Man" shows what happens when this deep rooted anger starts to ruin relationships, jobs, health and even life.

The authors state that some of the root problems are not having a father while growing up, unrealistic expectations of manhood, low self-worth, failure and role confusion.

Contents:

Part I:
Growing up without a father - shows how angry and hurt men are that they have not had a father in their lives. Men who were the most happy had a father who invested time in their son's lives.

Trying to Live up to a Myth - Does the man in your life think he is what he does, earns, experiences during sex.

Exposing the Roots of Mythical Masculinity - His anger may stem from his failure to live up to the cultural masculine imperatives: strength, success, financial security, sexual prowess, etc.

Anger Out of Bounds - explores anger stemming from selfishness.
When Anger Boils to the Surface - Shows how anger that boils to the surface poisons relationships.

Part II:
Becoming His Greatest Fan
Provides a penetrating look at how women can help men resolve their anger and find peace. Women learn how to:

Be a friend, not a mother.
Appreciate rather than nag
Affirm rather than criticize
Give space instead of crowding
Hold him responsible
Give, don't withhold

Answering the Questions of Manhood -

Am I a man? Am I competent? Do I have worth beyond my paycheck? Can I accept my limitations? Do I have meaning beyond my accomplishments?

Talking It Over Together - How to help your man open up and talk about his feelings.

Learning to Relate - Men and women have the same basic psychological needs, including the need to be significantly involved in the lives of other people. Explains why a man must learn to relate more effectively to others.

Dealing with His Losses - How a man needs to talk to other men about his losses.

Living with a Man at Peace - How a man at peace will change and how to recognize these changes.

When Men Won't Change - What do you do when a man's anger is growing and becoming worse with each new irritation? This discusses drastic measures you can take.

Great insight into how men think and why they are angry and what women can do to help a man find peace.

Of course, if it doesn't work, they recommend "separation."

A Guide to Playing the Mythos Card Game
This book contains miscellaneous information about the Mythos collectible card game. It contains: the rules of the game, a FAQ, a short play and deck construction guide, a sort of designer's notes on the game, background information on selected cards, rules for solitaire play and creating your own adventures, a complete spoiler list for the limited edition of the game and lists of card attributes and requirements for completing adventures.

As a collector and player of the game, I found the designer's notes on the history of the game and the design philosophy to be especially interesting. Also useful to me are the short notes on the background of selected cards and the rules for creating and scoring your own adventures. The pictures of the selected cards are black & white with a paragraph of background info. Buyers should also note that there is an updated version of the rules of the game at the Chaosium website.
