Big and good
As known, Adam Smith, a british economist and philosopher, is the father of economic theory. So, it is an indispensable collection for economists and economics' lovers. The author, John Cunningham Wood, from Edith Cowan University, writes about the life of this leading economist (as the author says) and the books are focused on the critical assessments of Smith. This collection is pleaseant to read (besides its 2176 pages) and I'm certain that people won't regret to acquire it.

Excellent Book to start Aerodynamics
I strongly recommend this book for those who are studying their first courses in aerodynamics. It is indeed clear, easy to understand, and, above all, very illustrated. In point of fact, I have liked aerodynamics because of this book. I used this book in my first course in aerodynamics instead of the required book given by my university (K.F.U.P.M), which was " Fundamentals of Aerodynamics written by John D. Anderson, because it avoids the complexity of derivations of equations, which might be the nightmare for some aerodynamics students particularly the beginners. Over and above this, I have been very willing and interested in reading the text because the authors have avoided tautology. Furthermore, I have digested a lots of concepts because of its very clear figures which have made a great impression on me, you know, one picture worth a 1000 words as the saying goes.

As far as the examples given in each chapter are concerned, I believe that the authors should have added extra examples in order to see the applications of the important theories and their equations. Anyhow, some of the provided examples did come in my major exams.

Like other aerodynamics books I have seen, this book does not provide the students with the solution of the problems given at the end of each chapter. I found that some of the theoretical questions given at the end of each chapter were among the questions my instructor used to give us in his quizzes, major, and final exams. The other thing I don not like about this book, similar to other aerodynamics books, is that it does not have a glossary. Thus, Students will have to read the text to find the definitions of the new terms. However, the definitions given are easy to memorize and comprehend as well.

For those who are interested in full derivations of equations, I believe that this book will not be very helpful to them. They should buy " Fundamentals of Aerodynamics written by John D. Anderson" immediately.

I believe very strongly that using both of the books I mentioned above will enable the student to pass his/her course with flying colors. I am sure as eggs are eggs that they will come in handy in quizzes, majors, final exams, plus term projects. I used both of them and I got "B". Believe you me, you will make it God willing, as I did.

Innovation, Competitiveness, and Growth
With the global competition ever more intensified, there has been a plethora of literature on innovation and technology. With no doubt, those interests focus on the competitiveness of the firm or national economy. This edited volume is no exception. But unlike other books, the point of emphasis is somewhat shifted to the left: what is the impact of global competition on the inequality between the North and the South; unemployment or job creation; uneven developed competitiveness among regions, in particular G3; the prospect of small and medium-sized enterprise. The overall thread of this book is much more akin to ones of development economics than those of other materials.
This book is the one of the series: 'Unemployment in Europe' 'Managing the Global Economy' 'Creating Industrial Capacity: Towards Full Employment' 'Employment and Economic Performance' You can guess what would be the tone and interest of papers in this book from the name of other books in the series. Those are particularly concerned with how to restore full employment, particularly in Europe. Writers delve into how to make innovation more benign and less threatening to the job creation. But naturally, job creation is not attainable without flexibility and company dynamics especially on the face of globalization. So this volume focuses on how firms can be made more innovative to introduce new products and services, open up new markets and develop new industries. Most model cases are from the US and Japan. Vis-a-vis globalization, writers intend to draw policy recommendations to sustain prosperity by way of stimulating technological development. But when it comes to real actor to foster the development, the point is far from clear, and that, not that realistic. They seem to have Japanese developmental state in mind. But I'm not that positive to that kind of position as a student of Japanese economy and a Korean.
Besides, each paper is not that bad. Thou those are hard to be said as innovative, well written and giving good vantage point on the subject. But overall quality of the book looks not that brilliant. I can't be sympathetic to the conclusion. To me, their appraisal of East Asia is not that appealing. And their position doesn't go beyond the context of EU area.
If you have interest in the topic of innovation, competitiveness, and development, papers in this book are surely helpful. But if you are not oriented in those field, this book should be not your choice. If you want to be accustomed to the field of innovation, and to know what is the state of art discussion, read 'The Dynamic Firm'. If you want to be oriented to innovation and technology from the view of development, Ruttan's 'Technology, Growth, and Development' should be the pick. It's much more systematic and influential.

Heterocyclic Chemistry

Valuable reference to all facets of heterocyclic chemistry
This book gives a thorough review of the chemistry of each particular class of heterocycles, covering structure, reactivity, and synthesis. Unique to this book is a coverage of the organometalic chemistry associated with each class. It is my opinion that this book is a touch better than the Thieme and Gilcrest heterocyclic books, based mostly on the organization of material. I do wish, however, that the authors had given aminoheterocycles a bit more attention!

Great maps and history
My Husband, children and I traveled through the Baja Penisula for a month earlier this year and we used the maps and information found in this guide. The full-size very detailed maps were more useful than other maps that we brought along. The book listed destinations(and historical facts on these destinations) in the order you would normally travel through them if coming in from the North and also includes recommendations for excellent dining locations and incredible little known sites that we never would have found. We could have made the trip without the guide but it made it easier and more enjoyable.

Lets us eavesdrop on a conversation between two giants.
I thoroughly enjoyed paging through these fascinating letters; for any student of the Unconsious, this collection offers exciting material. At times, some material can seem superfluous. Perhaps a little editorial massaging could have arranged the letters in such a way as to make accessing the kernels and nuggets of Freudian and Jungian thought a little easier for students and amateurs interested in quick quotes and primary reference material. But overall, the editors did a fantastic job--this book is a "dream." Interpret it as you wish.

Review of John Stott : The Making of a Leader
John Stott, The Making of A Leader, The Early Years, by Timothy Dudley-Smith. Downers Grove: InterVarsity Press, 1999, 526 pages.

This, the first volume of the first full length biography of John R. W. Stott, will set the standard of excellence for the many biographies which will follow. Timothy Dudley-Smith's excellent biography paints a complete portrait of the public and private life of one of the greatest Christian leaders of the last one hundred years. Dudley-Smith draws extensively from Stott's diaries, letters and books and from interviews with both friends and adversaries. He captures the formative experiences that have shaped the life and ministry of John Stott.

Arranged in sections covering ten year increments from the 1920s through the 1950s, the chapters within each section relate key friendships, public challenges and personal struggles. These engaging accounts bring into view a compelling story of the forces that have shaped and which drive Stott.

Far from the doting account of a saintly life by an admiring follower, Dudley-Smith frankly describes Stott's struggles and doubts as well as the excitement of his expanding ministry. Directness and sensitivity mark the recounting of Stott's lifelong rivalry with his sister and the years of alienation from his father. His concern for his local congregation at All Souls Church in London as he begins evangelistic tours of Great Britain, the United States, Autrailia and Africa reveal his pastor's heart and sensitivity.

The first volume of this biography projects a three dimensional picture of a man of God. Don't wait for the companion volume, not due out for at least another two years, before reading this book. This account of a contemporary Christian will hearten and challenge you.
