Della knows nothing about his hidden agenda. Her career soars and her love life is anything but boring. But Carrie, Wes' wife, is perilously jealous and does everything in her power to destroy Della, while Wes is holding back a truth that would dramatically change Della's fate. Ashamed of her past, Della has struggled all her life not to turn out like her mother and thus got trapped in a mesh of disturbing lies that now begin to backfire. The breathtaking plot reaches a superb climax where everything that is dear to Della hangs in the balance.
DELLA is a brilliant achievement that satisfied me on all levels. Julie Gettys, highly acclaimed author of PAST TENSE, has once more created an intelligent romantic thriller with an impressive heroine, a marvelous cast of multidimensional characters and a plot filled with startling surprises. Her style has class, elegance and intensity.
I liked the twists and turns in the plot, which I didn't guess until nearly the last page. I hope Julie Gettys will give us another book soon. Her writing reminds me of Judith Krantz.
Jack blackballs Della, and she finds it impossible to find work with another travel agency. Then a call comes from a former client, asking her to work in house handling their travel needs. Suddenly Della finds life flourishing on the fast track. She buries her sordid past in the flurry of the present, learning appropriate clothing rituals and handling her new position with aplomb. Finally everything looks up. Then she finds out the sexy man she's fallen for has a disputable past that threatens everything she's worked so hard to gain.
With a remarkable flair, Julie Gettys presents a novel filled with secrets, deception, lies, and deceit balanced by a rich cast of characters. DELLA is one of those wonderful, spirited novels that move one to tears and compassion even as you cheer the heroine's success. Indeed, DELLA's triumphant finale makes this a novel to treasure. Highly recommend.

This is the story of a small boy, suddenly orphaned and alone in
a small fishing village. He is cared for by a different family
each year and wanting to somehow show his appreciation, he uses
his skills as a woodcarver to create and leave small Christmas
gifts for the children in each home he has visited.
From this small beginning the person of Santa Claus slowly becomes a
reality. The Christmas
Eve tradition of leaving gifts, how the sleigh
and reindeer became part of the task, and even how the name of Santa Claus
and his traditional red and white clothing were developed are all
explained in this delightful tale.
This is a long hardcover children's book, perfectly written to be
read aloud to young children in the weeks prior to Christmas. I first
read it to my children in the late 60s and then lost the book. I recently
rediscovered this newly published version which includes information
on who the author might really be (probably Hokie, the illustrator)
and a section for recording who read the story to whom and when.
I highly recommend this book if you are a true believer in the spirit
if not the person of
Santa Claus, and last Christmas presented the
book to my 18 month old grandaughter. It is a story her mother remembers fondly.
The original was a large paperback, published in the late 60s by a
childrens' book club. If you find a copy, please let me know at

Merry Christmas in July !
This story is about 17 year old, Jamie Tessman who went to Chicago over the summer with her mother. Her mom is a famous lawyer who is solving a murder trial. In Chicago, Jamie starts having daydreams about her bestfriend, Webb except they are extremely vivid and almost real. She thinks shes going crazy when she ends up in the emergency room for riding her bike into a parked car. There she meets Morgan. They become fast friends and spend a lot of time together. Then one day when Jamie was out with Morgan and had one of her daydreams but this time it's harder to get out of. Morgan introduces Jamie to her Aunt who is a psychiatrist. Eventually Jamie finds a horrifying secret long forgotten and everything starts to make sense.
This story is great because it's full of surprises and deals with an average teenager. I think anyone would like this book. I loved this story because it has a surprising twist.
The book is about a 17 year old girl, Jamie Tessman, and her best friend Webb. They got separated for the summer and Jamie went to Chicago with her mom. Her mom is a famous lawyer and she has a case so she's either not home or very busy so she can't talk. So Jamie meets Morgan and what a coincidence, Morgan's aunt is a shrink. Jamie gets to know Morgan so she introduces Jamie to her aunt. Jamie also gets to know Morgan's aunt because Jamie visits her once or twice a week. Jamie really has a problem. Once Jamie stars with the shrink she gets a lot of flash-backs or daydreams about Webb. She can't help them and sometimes it take a while to get out of them. She also gets flash-backs about the day she met Webb and her baby-sitter Ellis.
Julie Reese Deaver is a great author. She also wrote the book "Say Goodnight Gracie". I definitely want to read that because this book was sooo great.
Jamie has a major problem and needs help. Why does she need help? What is the twist? Well... read the book and yo'll find out!!

Everyone has had it, the fear of that first day of school. This is what First Day Jitters is all about. But this book puts a humorous twist on those fears. The ending will warm your heart, no matter if you're eight or eighty years old.
Colorful pictures that follow that first day of school you remember, only this time with a surprise ending. This is a great book for kids that are nervous to go to school, or adults who want to read books about their childhood. You really can't go wrong with a book like this.
The repetition of the story makes it easy to read and easy for an older child to learn, and yet isn't the kind of repetition that drives parents wild. As the child gets older, you can drop words and let them "fill in the blank" as they look at the pictures to identify both the animals and the animals' colors.
When I was a Nanny my charge and I adored this book and read it at least a hundred times. Now that I am home with my own son, I bought the book for him and he loves it too!
Exploitative labor practices in the local steel mill, a minister who defies the town powers to provide support for downtrodden workers, Julie's youthful idealism, her father's illness and struggle to build his newspaper and establish himself in the community all combine with teenage awakening and a couple of natural disasters to make a highly entertaining and spiritually enlightening book. Turns out the book is autobiographical and it's at least as successful as Marshall's CHRISTY.
Marshall's style is light and entertaining, never "preachy." But she gets a message across by demonstrating the power of faith and love in her characters' lives. Characters are full and vibrant, the story line moves tantalizingly and the language of the book is delightful.
I can't imagine anyone not enjoying JULIE.
It is when the perfect tree is found on the Bush Creek Convent grounds that his job gets just a little bit harder. Sister Anthony unfolds a splendid Christmas tale that will leave the reader with a story you will want to share with the whole family. I can see this book easily becoming a family tradition. Heartwarming and wonderful a 5 star Christmas tale for certain. Kelsana@yahoo.com 12/25/01
