A great resource
When I was beginning to try to write about my own family's experience, I stumbled across a reference to this book -- which was then out of print. I was lucky enough to find a copy and found it an invaluable resource in understanding not only the schizophrenia in my family but also the family dynamics that aggravated the effect of the disease. I am so thrilled that this is back in print -- it's a must-have for family members!

Compassion, not sacrifice
Hidden Victims, Hidden Healers is an excellent resource book for family and friends of people who are living with some form of mental or emotional disorder. Written in a no-nonsense, accessible style, and filled with true-life stories of others in this position, Hidden Victims, Hidden Healers offers the reader options without giving advice, lets the reader know that they are not alone in their difficulty, and suggests additional resources for both the reader and their loved one. Perhaps best of all is the permission which Ms. Johnson gives the reader to live their own life-being compassionate to a loved one does not mean sacrificing your own right to a happy and fulfilling life. As a fellow professional, as well as one who has herself been in this dilemma, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

excellent practical guildelines for self-examination
I've conducted a support group two times through this book and it's excellent. Johnson concentrates on what you can do for yourself, how you can grow into a deeper person. Help your mentally ill relative or friend by becoming stronger yourself. Her eight stages begin with Awareness of yourself and validation of your feelings and go on from there to tackle guilt, forgiveness, and growth among other areas. Wonderul and extremely helpful. Because of this book I can say I have grown through this experience

Fun, Positive, and Cheerful!
Everything about this book is wonderful! From the well-crafted, fun-to-read words, to the colorful and expressive illustrations, to the positive and powerful message, Annie McRae is a delightful book! And should become a favorite for parents to read with children. Both will love it!

Hip, Hip, Hooray for Brad Wilcox!
What a wonderful children's book! Not only is Annie McCrae fun to read, beautifully illustrated, and refreshingly positive, but it is also a teaching tool. What parent or teacher would not want to sit down with a child and read the story of Annie McCrae--a little girl who learns to become her own best cheerleader? Children's books are wonderful, and there are a ton of well-illustrated, fun-to-read children's books out there. Classic children's books, however, go a little deeper and teach lessons for life. Annie McCrae is one such book. Hip, Hip, Hooray for Brad Wilcox and the classic tale of Annie McCrae! I can't wait to see what Annie learns next.

Hip, Hip, Hooray for Cute Books Like This!
This little book is a delightful addition to the world of children's literature. I love the catchy, colorful cover and the western theme throughout. I like the fact that Annie is a strong female character. We need more characters like that in the books of today. This book catches the attention of all who see it and the children respond to the western vocabulary and repeated phrase, "Hip, hip, hooray for Annie McRae." Pretty soon the kids start putting their own names or the names of their friends in place of Annie which just goes to show that it's a good book that kids remember and learn from. It's a book that gives a lesson without being overly obvious and cheesy. Yet it holds a special charm that makes it fun. I loved it and recommend it highly.

Homecoming - A Prophetic Study of Ruth
Through the lives of two women, Jew and Gentile, Julie immerses the reader in God's prophetic plan for the world. As they journey together, His plan for restoration and wholeheartedness unfolds - for all of us. This is a fascinating in-depth study, brilliantly written, yet easy to understand. I recommend it highly for mature Christians, men and women alike, who are seeking a new dimension in their walk with the Father.

Becoming the Bride
Drawing from imagery in the book of Ruth, Homecoming exhorts readers to recover wholeheartedness in their pursuit of God, to reconcile past disappointments with God and journey toward a brighter future. The book echoes themes taught in the popular John Eldredge series, Wild at Heart and The Journey of Desire, but with a greater emphasis upon attaining mature intimacy with God as the Bride of Christ. The book gives lots of practical advice concerning how to grow in spiritual intimacy. It is an excellent resource for individual or small group study.

Writer Reveals New Worlds in God's Word
The Book of Ruth is about 3 pages long in most Bibles. In Homecoming, Julie Wilson creates a study of it that is 304 pages long, and more intricate--and intriguing--than anything I've ever seen about this Old Testament Book. Anyone who has ever said, "I don't understand the Old Testament," should read this book. The author has really done her homework and offers numerous cross-references to help you see how this story foreshadows the coming of Christ and the relationship of the Church as the Bride of Christ. But rather than being a ponderous treatise, it is a lighthearted and joyous look at what a mature faith can be. An important theme throughout is "spiritual friendship" and how believers can help each other through difficult times. Homecoming really opened my eyes to the Old Testament, and my heart to the notion of a "romantic relationship" with my Savior. Read it and you'll see what I mean!

My twins' favorite book
This book has been the favorite of my twin 17-month old girls since they were about 9 months. Their favorite thing to do is to try to bite the caterpillar's head off as I'm reading them the story. I read it to them in the voice of the caterpillar from A Bug's Life and they think it's just hilarious. Sometimes, I even ad lib the story line as they try to grab the caterpillar and bite him (and my finger- ouch!).

I'm not all that big on the story line personally, but they go into laughing hysterics everytime we read it, so by that count, it's a great book.

Such a cute book!
This is by far my children's favorite book (ages 1 and 3). They are always grabbing it and wanting people to read it to them. My 3 year old will say the lines being read. They both laugh while my husband reads the book in a funny "caterpillar" voice. It's fun and interactive.

The bases of the book is this little caterpillar is trying to figure out what he is going to be when he grows up and what is right for him.. in the end he figures it out :)

Excellent book!
This is my son's favorite book, and he is 1 year old. When reading the book, he loves to turn the pages, and "kiss" the caterpillar. He also is constantly smiling during reading time. Great book! We love it!

He did it again
The movie " In A Childs Name" was the best movie that I have ever saw. It brought back memories of what happened to my sister. Now I have ideas to help my nephew.

very good book,pretty factual
This poor girl should have gotten out of this awful marriage. It showed how close to her family she was and at what lenghts family will go to to do the right thing. The book presented how strong and what great character her sister had.I have met her sister on several occasions and she is nice, kind and sweet. How this family can go on the way they do is an inspiration to others.

The TV-movie didn't tell half the story
If you saw the TV-movie of IN A CHILD'S NAME (starring Valerie Bertinelli), it didn't tell half the story of wife-murderer Ken Taylor, his child-stealing parents, and their accomplices, of whom some were unwitting. With this book author Peter Maas raises the stakes for true-crime writing. Read IN A CHILD'S NAME!

Balanced Spiritual Approach to Weight Loss
This book has many practical insights. Eating is not just a physical problem but emotional and spiritual. So many programs out there overemphasize the physical and are incapable in addressing other components that cause us to overeat. Actually, no book is the answer but God himself is the answer. We can look to him to satisfy our needs so we don't eat over them. God has used this book as a tool in my life. I love the journaling and praying suggestions and use them almost everyday. Another key has been getting trigger foods out of my house completely. Too much temptation otherwise. I have a total of 175 pounds to lose (I have lost 34 of those pounds since March 2001) and I am confident that the Lord will bring me to goal. I had so much shame before because of the way I was. Now I have hope for a better today and tomorrow. I know there will be challenges along the way, but with these practical tools in my hand, I will will be able to conquer those challenges and learn from them by the grace of God. ...

LIFE CHANGING!
The Step Forward Diet is powerful,& life-changing and gives in detail everything you need to not only loose weight permanently, but to finally rid yourself of the symptoms associated with weight gain (i.e. guilt, shame, blame). Julie Morris expertly writes from personal experience how she allowed God to be the source of her strength to overcome a life-long battle of weight gain. This is NOT your typical weight loss book, it is a road map, and a personal guide which shows you step by step how your success can be achieved by applying 12 Biblically based principles to your everyday life. The principles outlined in Julie Morris' book are profound enough to be used in every area of your life where God's guidance is needed, but simplistic enough that application of these principles can begin immediately. I highly recommend The Step Forward Diet to ANYONE who wants to end the cylce of weight gain-weight-loss-weight-gain and allow God to do what He does best, take full control. This book WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! God bless.

LIFE-CHANGING!
The Step Forward Diet is an amazing book for ANYONE who wants to finally get rid of the not just the weight but the symptoms attached with being overweight (i.e. the guilt, the shame, the blame). And what's incredible about The Step Forward Diet is it's step-by-step plan for allowing GOD to be the source of strength and power to achieve your desired result. This is NOT your typical weight loss book. The 12 steps outlined in Julie Morris' book are applicable to every area of our lives where God's intervention is needed. Read this book and then allow God to do His job. YOU WILL BE BLESSED!

The AMAZING Taymor!
I had always understood poetry to be an experience involving words, but even experiencing the frozen images of Julie Taybor's work was an indescribably moving experience. I could absolutely understand by the images how much more ALIVE her creations would be when manipulated on the stage. Being exposed to the work of Julie Taymor has been one of the most important experiences of my year.

Uh Oh, I'm now a fan of Julie Taymor
I've just finished 'The Lion King, on Broadway' book. That's just whet my appetite to go out and 'put on a show'. This book was my next step and boy, I wasn't disappointed! 'Playing with Fire' is a truly splendid book, chronicalling the vocational, personal and thoroughly creative life of Ms.Taymor. The photos are dramatic as well as detailed and along with her conceptual costume sketches, the book is perfect for reference, inspiration and motivation for all you wannabe designers out there. I really admire this woman, what she has done with her life, the belief in herself and of how she surpasses herself with each new project. This book is a must for anyone who needs that extra motivational push once in a while when they are struggling as a designer, actor, or any vocation that involves loving what you do.

A lush and sensual introduction to a gifted artist
A big book overflowing with big ideas as conceived and breathed life into by America's most unique theatre artist. This is a volume to read, to reread, to spark your imagination and to put on your coffee table to look at the cool pictures. The only thing more you could wish for is if Julie herself could make a home visit when you bought the book

A Rare Book for a Rare Artist
I bought this book after looking at a friend's copy, and I can say that this was one of the finest investments in my Theatre Arts library that I have ever made. This book is filled with brilliant pictures and vivid writing that will keep many in awe and almost child-like wonder at the genious of Ms. Taymore. This isn't just a book for those that appreciate theatre - I suggest it for anyone who is interested in puppetry or film, not to mention anyone who can appreciate art in general.

Playing With Fire proves Julie Taymor's extreme brilliance!
I have been in love with theatre for a long time. Many musicals I see and enjoy, buy the CD and just listen to that. Others blow me away. Those that have that capacity I tend to investigate and become obsessed with. The Lion King was one of them. I soon became fascinated and extremely appreciative of Julie Taymor's work and pure brilliance in musical theatre, opera, and film. This book highlights every show that Julie has been involved with for her 20 years in the performing arts business. This wonderful book illustrates what true theatre is! Julie is too amazing for any human language too describe; even emotion can't portray my love and idolism for this excruciatingly wonderful woman! Anybody who loves theatre, whether it is film, opera, musical or non-musical, you will be able to love and appreciate this book for all eternity.

I love this book so much that I would dare to give it infinite stars. Now imagine this, if there were such a number, I'd give the music from these shows infinitely infinite stars!

Now, more to the book. It starts out with a quick overview of her work. Then we get into the real meat. There are pictures (both of the show and backstage!) from each and every single of her shows. Included are some original sketches of costumes, masks, and puppets. Along with the pictures are writings by both Julie Taymor and Eileen Blumenthal. This is an extravagant work of art in itself that all should have their eyes glued onto...buy it now! Also buy everything you can find that relates to Ms. Taymor. You will be fascinated! The only regret I now have is that I didn't live in Europe and Asia to see her other fascinating shows...

Hail Taymor! I will look forward to all of your work in the future!

Lastly, if anyone finds the film Fool's Fire (by Taymor), PLEASE! E-mail me at Cepheus9@aol.com...I want to buy it SO badly!

Playing with fire -- Playing with imagination
A facinating insight into the mind of one of the great contempary designers. A must have for all theatrically minded people. The book takes you through the creative process to achieving such powerful and passionfilled productions such as The Lion King. Disney would have flopped without Julie Taymor.

julie kenner does it again - another 5 stars
Julie Kenner is a great writer - I have enjoyed all of her books so far. This is no exception.... I loved the characters. I am hoping that maybe she writes a book about the chef Tim so that we can see how Lisa and Ken are doing...

Hot! Very highly recommended
Ken Harper's talent and ambition matched Lisa Neal perfectly, making him irresistible. Unfortunately, it was her own ambition that cost LIsa the sexy restaurateur, leading her to New York for the opportunity of a lifetime. She'd worked her tail off for years for an opportunity to become a player in the Hollywood scene, and when one of the country's hottest independent producers offers her a job, she immediately leaves LA and Ken behind. Too bad the hot producer found more satisfaction in snorting the drugs investor's money could buy than he did in making movies. And too bad Lisa's name was linked in the scandal. Now she's returning to the City of Angels with a promise of return to the world of film if she can convince Ken to help.

Ken's restaurant Oxygen continues to succeed. Not bad for a college drop-out from Blanco, Texas. His semi-celebrity status doesn't please him, but can't be avoided, even when it brings women like Alicia Duncan. Alicia wants an interview with Ken at Oxygen and will do anything to get it. Ken refuses to diminish the mystique of the restaurant with testimonials, personal appearances, or commercials. So when Lisa returns to town and convinces Ken to let her use Oxygen for a film site, Alicia wants to know why.

Every year Oxygen's anniversary reminds Ken of the loss of the love of his life. At the restaurant's opening he had an engagement ring in his pocket, believing Lisa felt the same way he did. Instead, she was gone to New York two days later with another man. "Hit-and-run dating", as his best friend calls it, wasn't making him happy. Maybe if he helps her, Ken can finally get on with his life. So he agrees to let Lisa use Oxygen, for a price. Ken had been waiting to marry Lisa before he made love to her. Now he wants Lisa not just for sex but decadence, "A wild time the likes of which we never got to have before." But the question remains if a night of sin and sex will be enough to satisfy them both.

Author Julie Kenner once again delivers a romance that turns up the heat! With the ambiance of Los Angeles for her background, LA CONFIDENTIAL is a sexy, dazzling romp. The single-mindedness of the heroine's decision to pursue her career goals never threats the hero's success, nor does she back away from her goals for love. Indeed, this reviewer is very impressed with the successful conclusion that never comprises the strength of these wonderful characters. In addition, Ken's best friend who happens to tend bar at Oxygen is a hoot! His knowledge of women's magazines gives the novel a touch of verve that is irresistible. LA CONFIDENTIAL has been added to the keeper shelf. Very highly recommended.

Insects & Spiders; beautiful
Yes, I have bought a book "How to photograph Insects & Spiders" by Larry West with Julie Ridl. The mentioned book includes five parts which spread across main problems concerning the macro-photography. The authors write about special accessories for this photo-category and they show their photo-macro gears inclusive the special tools. How use a tripod, tripod heads, an extension rings, multipliers and flash. The book describes a negative/positive film differences and shortly look at the E-6 and K-14 developing process. Larry West has opened own Portfolio with many, many beautiful color photohraphies (mailny spiders - Misumena vatia, Geolycosa turricola, Lycosa gulosa,...). He describes a tonal tricks for take a shot on slides. Where to meter a background and meter some white part photography field. The book includes a magnification table for Area Covered, Subjects and Equipment.
I can recommend this book for beginners even for pros too (Rene Novak, studio er67 - prague).

The secrets are very simple
Thanks to West for an extra-ordinary work and interest to publish this book of his experience. The depth of coverage was excellent! This is a sort of bible for amateur and pros for taking insects. Simple instruments (cost effective) suggested by West. I could afford to buy the recommended accessories next day of receiving the book, locally. Believe me, I have gone through the book (about 175 pages) in one breath, overnight, sacrificing my sleep for the excellent creatures of God. I rate this 5 star, because you need to estimate my review only after you read the book.

Great Advice from a Great Photographer
One thing I love about this book is that West talks about techniques such as stacking supplementaries that John Shaw advises against. It just shows there is more than one way to achieve your desired magnification. West does a great job of outlining subjects such as exposure and equipment, both of which are vital in this type of photography. However, he also provides in depth coverage on his approach to finding and working with insects in the field-a topic of at least equal importance. He backs up his advice with superb examples of his work. A great book that pleasantly surprised me!
