Wow wow wow!
This book is simply a great read for army guys lovers! The connection between the two characters is unmistakable. I tought it was a higly emotional read, with a hero not physically perfect for once (also he is not far from that) and a woman that knows what she wants. The two of them make a great couple. Ingrid Weaver made also a great work describing trauma states associated to stress and all the emotional turmoils that follow.

If you are looking for a book full of emotions, a real romance, you just found what you need!

Great Beauty and the Beast love story!!
Master Sergeant Rafe Marek and his team of Delta Force commandos are called upon to rescue a plane full of hostages from their hijackers forced down on an island whose government is unwilling to help. During the rescue, Rafe and Glenna Hastings are separated from the other team and must rely on Rafe's skill and daring to get them through the jungle and safely to their next pick-up point. Along the way, Glenna, a woman who has protected her heart due to her upbringing, finds herself falling in love with Rafe. Rafe has his own insecurities due to an accident that has not only scarred his face, but his own feelings of self worth. This is a great "Beauty and the Beast" story and while this is my first book by Ingrid Weaver, it won't be my last. This is definitely a keeper!

Excellent. Uplifting and Positive.
I bought this book for a friend for Christmas on a whim. When I previewed it, I decided that I needed a copy as well. This is a fantastic book.

Inspirational
What a fabulous book! It's a collection of writings by women about their experiences in the outdoors...ranging from a terrifying night skate down the hills of San Francisco to a swim with wild dolphins to ice climbing to a walk in the forest. Every story is wonderfully written and inspires me to experience life to the fullest.

Countess Dracula turns Ghostbuster
This woman is tough on ghosts! She doesn't want to settle for a spook that she can't see---no plate-throwing entity for her unless she can actually view the spirit in question! Ingrid Pitt, best known as Hammer Film's beautiful scream-queen, turns in her vampire fangs for a ghosthunter's kit. From Europe to the U.S.A., she collects and spins ghostly tales, relating the details with a wink and a nudge. Starting with her own ghostly
experience, a touching encounter with the spirit of her deceased father who appeared to look into the little face of the granddaughter he didn't live to see, Ingrid Pitt launches into an entertaining array of ghost stories, from the terrible thing at No. 50 Berkley Square to James Dean's cursed car. Her natural humor shines through every story, but she is an exceptional storyteller! She also includes a film directory of the most spooky movies ever made. It would have been interesting to have featured actual photos of some of the castles and houses featured in the stories, but the illustrations by Jim Bailey were very cool, and added a nice touch.

"Must" reading for students of the paranormal.
Ingrid Pitt's complete lowdown on ghosts, phantoms, apparitions and poltergeists and where to find them examines modern and past spooks alike, with black and white illustrations and an foreword by Uri Geller accompanying essential a collection of ghost stories with extra notes on where to locate the spirits. A collection sure to attract any interested in haunting.

TO LOVE
WHEN I FIRT SAW I WAS AFRAID TO TALK TO YOU , WHEN I TALKED TO YOU I WAS AFRAID TO LIKE YOU , WHEN I LIKED I WAS AFRAID TO LOVE YOU , NOW THAT I LOVE YOU I'M AFRAID TO LOSE YOU..

Classic Rumi in excellent translation
Annemarie Schimmel is an internationally recognized expert on Sufism in general and Rumi in particular. In this selection of poems of Rumi, she also shows herself to be a woman of excellent poetic sense in English.

Especially enjoyable in this small volume are poems that reflect the common origins of Judaism, Christianity and Islam: "... You be an ocean and throw out the boat! / You be a world and throw away the world! .............

If you enjoy Sufi poetry or Rumi, consider this book a must.

Pocahontas
Published in Paperback by Olaneta (1998)
Author: Ingrid Parin
Amazon base price: $27.90

Tasteful and accurate.
The story of Pocahontas is both tragic and inspiring. As early colonists settle in what is modern day Virginia, they become uneasy with local native americans. When one of the colonists is captured and sentenced to death, Pocahontas saves his life, and becomes an important bridge between two conflicting cultures. Ultimately, Pocahontas marries one of the colonists and travels to Europe, where she is received as a foreign princess by the Queen of England herself. A truely beautiful story that children of all ages will love.

Wonderful, full of facts and life
We've been taking this book out the library for years. We finally bought it. As with all of the books by Ingri and Edgar Parin d'aulaire, the illustrations are beautiful, the stories full of information and the facts true. They are very easy to read but still not wishy-washy. We all learn something everytime we read them. You want to read them over and over. Our children read these for fun. Wonderful.

Practical Sigil Magic: Creating Personal Symbols for Success (Llewellyn's Practical Magick Series)

Best book on the subject
It always amazes me that the best magickal books go out of print while truly worthless junk stays on the market. If you are interested in sigil magick this is the best source on the subject. Most books by prominent chaos magickians are not clear or leave much to be desired (an exception would be Phil Hines' excellent books) but Frater U D cuts straight to the point. He explains pictorial and mantric forms of sigil magick with clear examples of each type. This is a system of magick in which you already have everything you need- plain, simple, and very effective. I can personally testify that this form of magick has worked for me on numerous occasions. Austin Osman Spare developed this system but his writings are extremely difficult to understand and decipher- I would highly recommend reading all of his writings but to say he has an obscure writing style is an understatement. One of the more interesting chapters in the book is working with atavisms in sigil magick. This is a branch of magickal study which can give the intrepid psychonaut years of exploration. Frater U D also gives an illuminating discourse on how magick works from several metaphysical perspectives. I can only hope this book will come back in print for those magickians who want an effective and personal form of practical magick.

Theory And Practice Of Sigil Magic
If you're new to the subject Practical Sigil Magic is a good place to start. If you already know how to do sigil magic you'll probably find this book redundant. On second thought, you might find a few ideas here that you never thought of before (this author has a habit of doing that). Good, clear information. The book should have been called Sigil Magic for Dummies.

Samaritans and Early Judaism
Published in Hardcover by Sheffield Academic Pr (2001)
Author: Ingrid Hjelm
Amazon base price: $107.00
Average review score:

Excellent but should consider the Sheban evidence
This is an excellent book but it could have examined another "alternative" history of the Old Testament, the Sheban/Sabaean traditions, which, taken with the Ethiopian evidence and lack of archaeologcial findings in Palestine, suggest that the Old Testament's true location up to 586BCE was in West Arabia, not Palestine. It would also be interesting to see if there is any substance to the belief (not mentioned in this text) that Islam was to a significant extent influenced by Samaritan oriented Arabian Israelites.

An original, impressive, scholarly, informative study.
In The Samaritans And Early Judaism: A Literary Analysis, research scholar Ingrid Hjelm surveys antiquarian sources mentioning Samaritans as well as questions that relate to possible Samaritan-Judaean conflict, and offers a new, insightful, informed understanding of both Samaritanism and Judaism in their formation. Hjelm also exhaustively examines literature dating from the Persian period to well into the Roman era. The Samaritans And Early Judaism is an impressive, benchmark study that focuses on the anachronisms of the writers of these ancient texts. Chapters include The Two-Episode Paradigm: Samaritan Research from Montgomery to Coggins; Radical Alternatives: The Theories of Crown and Nodet; Samaritan Literature; Samaritans in Jewish, Christian, and Hellenistic Literature; Samaritans in the Writings of Josephus; Samaritan Historiography; From Literary to Historical Reality. Highly recommended for students of Judaic studies and Mideast history, The Samaritans And Early Judaism is enhanced with a bibliography, Index of References, and an Index of Authors.

a curriculum jewel!
If you are committed to reducing stereotypes you'll love this one. A South African child walks thru the South African city where he lives. He's dressed much like my grandson in northern California. Here are stop lights, trucks and cars, airplanes and a typical South African shopping area. He visits the library to renew his favorite book about other areas of Africa areas where lions and crocodiles live, an Africa he has seen only in books. Suitable for 3 thru adult.

A great look at city life in the African Continent.
This beautifully illustrated children's book introduces children to an "Africa" they do not see portrayed very often. The main character, a young boy named Asraf, takes the reader into his world, and helps children understand that there is incredible diversity within the African continent. This is sure to delight you and your children, as you discover together the many aspects of Ashraf's life and dreams.

Critique of REASON
This book takes you throug the depths of reasoning from different angles viz. science, philosophy, spirituality, humanity and more. And the ultimate aim: how ther are just different parts of the same string. Must read !!

A Personal Journey
With this debut collection of essays, George Klein, Holocaustsurvivor and one of the world's foremost cancer researchers has joinedthe growing list of scientists willing to share their experiences in science with the general reading public. By all accounts, this is an impressive start. The essays range in content from personal anecdotes about science and scientists, travelogues, discussions on virology, genetics and cancer, misuses of science in Nazi extermination camps to reflections on death, religion and ethics. His writing is simple, unpretentious, original and a delight to read. If this gem of a collection is any indication of things to come, we are in for many such treats in the future. Read it, enjoy it, treasure it, this book is a memorable reading experience.

Not since I read Sir Peter Medawar's essays on science and scientists have I encountered such clarity in language and thought and a commitment to portray science as it is really practiced, subject to the same motivations and biases as any other human endeavor. The first section of the book, "The Wisdom and Folly of Scientists" deals with such issues. The tempo and style of Klein's writing is defined early in the book in the essay "The Emperor's New Clothes" (my favorite in this collection). In this story he explains the phenomenon of scientific "conformism", the tendency of scientists to accept or reject a new finding without critical thinking, and how this may hinder or even damage scientific research.

In the essay "Are Scientists Creative" Klein uses the biologist Sol Speigelmann's dilemma, Is my work worth anything? (Something that many scientists must have agonized over at some point) to explore the nature of scientific creativity and to contrast it with the artistic temperament.

In "Ultima Thule" he talks to the German geneticist Benno-Muller Hill about the ugly history of the eugenics movement and its culmination in the mass murder of Jews. How could this have happened? How could respectable scientists commit such unspeakable misuses of science? Were they all psychopaths? Klein discovers some surprising answers. One would have thought that after the excesses of the Second World War and our current understanding of genetics, the theory of genetic inequality would have been finally put to rest. Instead, this distasteful topic keeps surfacing every now and then. H.J Muller's 'genetic deterioration' hypothesis, our attitudes towards AIDS patients and Singapore's "race improvement" program through preferential matrimony are recent examples of such misguided thinking. Will we ever shake ourselves free of these prejudices? Klein offers no easy answers, just a warning to keep vigil.

In the section Viruses and Cancer, Klein displays his abilities to explain the difficult concepts of virology, genetics and cell biology in uncomplicated and understandable language. The essay "The Tale of the Great Cuckoo Egg" is particularly fascinating. It traces the history of cancer research, from the early days when all cancer was thought to be of viral origin to its present state of understanding. The story beautifully illustrates how 'pet theories', coincidences and pure dumb luck all played their part in some of the most important discoveries of 20th century biology, finally leading to the discovery of oncogenes, the growth regulatoy genes of the cell.

La Condition Humaine, the final section, is also the most philosophical, as Klein reflects on our will to live, our sexuality, attitudes towards death and dying and religion. 'Eternal Printemps' begins with some entertaining examples of our attitudes towards sex. Klein uses quite a few examples, from classical music to the sexual mores in Sweden, the Masai and the orthodox Jewish community in Jerusalem to summarize his 'kaleidoscope of sexuality'. A section on sex as a genetic process and how it evolved as the dominant mode of reproduction in the eukaryotes, puts the preceding discussion on human sexuality in a more sobering perspective.

The last chapter 'The Atheist and the Holy City' set in Jerusalem, is his most personal writing. Here, George Klein, scientist, humanist, philosopher, attempts to reconcile his atheist beliefs in a city steeped in religion. No one can convince him of the existence of God. The scars of Auschwitz are too deep to heal. What has this century taught us? Where is mankind heading? Like Peter Medawar, Klein also believes that this century has been what it is because of science, and this conviction resonates throughout his writings.

In the end, this book is George Klein's personal journey, undertaken to make sense of some of humanities most basic constructs; religion, sexuality, ethics and morality, how they conflict with, and are sometimes better understood within the framework of modern biological thought. I suppose, anyone who has lived the life he has, will finally have something to say. As he admits in the preface," the words have welled up in me. I needed only step aside and watch them flow". Indeed they flow, in a calm, soothing, passionate and gently persuasive manner. We need to just immerse ourselves in them to experience the mind of an extraordinary scientist.
