The MacKades is the best of Nora's contemporary series novels that I've read. Although I enjoyed the Stars of Mithra series enormously, the MacKades top it by a mile. The paranormal elements to the story are much more credible than the Stars and fit into the story much more seamlessly. I enjoyed plumbing ever more deeply in each succeeding novel into the ghosts of Antietam and seeing their continuing effect on the MacKade family.
The best of the best of the four is THE HEART OF DEVIN MACKADE. After Devin's story, I'd list the others: Shane, Rafe, and Jared. Enjoy the MacKade brothers and their ladies. I look forward to Nora writing about the children someday ala the MacGregor series.

Both stories are fairly quick reads because they are shorter than a typical Nora Roberts novel. However, that does not mean that the characters are not developed or the story line is not believable. Quite the contrary.
Natasha and Spence are both very realistic. I felt their actions were what I would do in a similar situation. I particularly like how I can place myself in the main character's (Natasha's) place and feel her emotions.
Rachel and Zack was a very interesting story. I particularly liked Zack's brother. Again, I am impressed by Nora Roberts ability to take tough subjects and treat them with respect while also writing a romance.
If you have not yet read any of the Stanislaski Series, this is a real treat and not to be missed.
The first novel in the Stanislaski series is "Taming Natasha." Natasha, a toy-shop owner, and Spence, a college professor and famous composer, are the two main characters and their relationship is very realistically portrayed. Natasha's inner turmoil is palpable and Spence's dedication to his daughter, Freddie, makes for some touching and heart-warming scenes. It was wonderful watching these two find love and understanding with each other as they healed each other's old hurts. This is just an all-around wonderful read!
The second novel in this publication, "Falling for Rachel" is actually the third book in the Stanislaski series. This story deals with some tough subjects in a compassionate and perceptive manner. Rachel Stanislaski is a public defender and is assigned to the larceny case of 19 year old gang member, Nick LeBeck. But with Nick comes his sexy older step-brother, Zack Muldoon, and the attraction between Rachel and Zack is instant. In a strange court ruling, Nick is granted two months probation with Zack and Rachel as co-guardians. When these two are forced into close quarters they soon find their attraction hard to resist, and it makes for some very sexy scenes! Unfortunately, Nick finds himself falling for Rachel as well, due mostly to the fact that she is the first person to make him feel cared about and important in a very long time. This unusual triangle makes for some humorous situations. It also creates some very emotional and affecting scenes, as Nick once again finds himself disillusioned by the two people he was beginning to trust. This is a novel you don't want to miss!
"The Stanislaski Sisters" typifies all that is good about romance writing. It is a very fast read simply because it is tough to put down. NR really makes the reader care about the characters and what happens to them. I highly recommend this book!
Natasha is the oldest child in a family of four children. She has two brothers, Alexi and Mikhail. Rachel is the baby of the family. The three oldest siblings are brought to America as children from the Ukraine and continue to carry their heritage with them. A typical younger child, Rachel is annoyed that she wasn't born until later and has no memories of life in the Old Country. The entire family is very close and shares a strong bond of love and friendship. Their charming parents, Yuri and Nadia Stanislaski are also a part of their stories.
Natasha's story is that of a dedicated ballet dancer who finds love and joy at the age of 17 and loses it very quickly. She rebuilds her life, but is afraid to commit again until she meets Spencer Kimball, a handsome and very distinguished musician. Spence is immediately attracted to Natasha when they become acquainted in a toy store, but because of a misunderstanding, she takes a strong dislike to him.
Rachel's life is that of an overachiever who wants to succeed in her chosen profession as an attorney. Her ultimate goal is to be a judge. Her life is changed forever when she defends Nick, a hostile young man who is on the verge of ending up in the prison system. His older brother, rugged Zack Muldoon is mucho and aggressive and difficult to deal with. In spite of all his bravado, Zack loves his brother very much and will do anything to help him. Rachel's court room defense, and the judge's decision to make Rachel and Zack co-guardians of Nick, put her on the defensive as she fights to keep from falling in love with Zack.
The love stories are good, but more importantly they show the backbone of family life that shapes all of us.

Savannah Morningstar had a child when she was 16 years old. Beyond that, Savannah didn't speak much of her past. This and her easy acceptance of Jared into her life made Jared worry about her past and he became jealous of it. My big problem with Jared was he never asked Savannah about it in a calm way. He took digs at her and made accusations.
Savannah claimed to love Jared and he was obviously insecure about her past, so I thought she should have shared with him and spoken with him rationally about it, which she refused to do. While I thought, as insecure as she was she should have better understood his insecurity and reassured him, I couldn't blame her for not wanting to after the way he attacked her about it. Jared learned very early in the story how insecure Savannah was, and he responded by repeatedly undermining her confidence, both in herself and in his "love" for her.
Savannah ultimately responded to this by vandalizing Jared's property. I think this was supposed to be funny. I'm not sure. I found it disturbing. Her actions weren't in the heat of the moment, which would have made them almost understandable. She planned it out and then was proud of herself. Besides all the OBVIOUS problems with this, so much of the book was about what a good mother she was, but the message she was sending to her son here was that it's ok to destroy other people's property if you're mad at them.
These were two people who really brought out the worst in each other. They were sexually attracted to each other, but they never had trust, compassion or understanding for each other - and didn't seem to want them. If these were real people I think we would have seen them on the Jerry Springer show by now.
When Chantal receives obsessive phone calls, flowers and notes her agent hires private investigator Quinn who is quite a good looking man. At first there's the usual cat and mouse games between Chantal and Quinn, as she doesn't think he's necessary to protect her and he stubbornly refuses to leave. Clearly there is an attraction between the two of them which both denies and they continue to resist these urges even though it's clear to everyone else something is brewing. As usual there's the standard Nora Roberts reunion of the O'Hurley family as first sister Abby who is now pregnant arrives with her second husband (The Last Honest Woman) and then their parents Frank and Molly arrive for sister Maddy's wedding (Dance to the Piper). But once the family wedding is over, Chantel must reveal a long held secret that none of Quinn's snooping has unearthed and one which may forever change their relationship. As romance readers and Nora Roberts fans know there always must be a happily ever after ending. Quinn eventually finds the stalker, but not before Chantel's life is in danger, and finally Quinn and Chantel are able to pledge their devotion and love to one another.
I imagine that those readers who enjoy the romantic suspense genre will find this book a most enjoyable read.
Another reviewer's comparison to the movie "The Bodyguard" is right on, and this thought crossed my mind several times as I read this book. Unlike that movie, the reader never really gets any good clues as to who the obsessive fan might be. The book centers much more on the inital love/hate relationship of Chantel and her new bodyguard Quinn, and then focuses almost entirely on their romance when they fall in love.
In that sense alone, "Skin Deep" was a bit of a disappointment as a "mystery" because the stalker storyline was really only there to move along the romance. But let's be honest -- many NR fans read her books for the romance, not the intrigue. It's only in her newer books that Nora has begun to write really well-crafted mysteries. Since I'm sure the O'Hurley trilogy (plus "Without a Trace", about the triplets' brother) was conceived as being essentially about the lives and loves of these three sisters, NR did her job well here and writes an entertaining, satisfying romance.
The main character is Chantel O'Hurley. She's a famous actress/movie star. Unfortunately she has attracted the attention of a fan who begins to stalk her and ultimately terrify her. In steps Quinn Doran, hired by Chantel's manager to find out who the culprit is while protecting her from the sick fan who is stalking her. Though most of the story is developed around the budding relationship between Chantel and Quinn, there is enough about the stalker to hold your interested and ultimately you're unable to put the book down until its thrilling conclusion.
Ms. Roberts is indeed a gifted storyteller. This is one book you'll enjoy so much that as the end you'll draw a breath and say "Wow!"

This book contains the first two stories from the Calhoun series. In the first one, "Courting Catherine," tomboy C.C. Calhoun meets Trenton St. James III. C.C. is a mechanic and when she fixes Trent's car for him, she soon discovers that he's the man who is trying to buy her home, a wonderful but dilapidated mansion called The Towers, and turn it into a hotel. C.C. immediately tells Trent just what she thinks of him, but as these two spend time together the sparks begin to fly. This first story also introduces the mystery of the missing emeralds belonging to Bianca Calhoun, great-grandmother of the 4 Calhoun sisters. This is a lovely romance with an intriguing mystery added to the mix.
The second story, "A Man for Amanda," tells Amanda Calhoun's story. C.C. and Trent are now an item, and they have decided to turn one wing of The Towers into a special getaway, while keeping the rest of the home for the family. Enter Sloan, the architect Trent has hired for the renovations. His first meeting with Amanda doesn't go too well, but he finds himself completely taken with the obsessively organized and beautiful Mandy. The romance between these two is wonderfully written - when they aren't steaming up the windows they are arguing and taking shots at each other. However, Amanda soon discovers that she can't live without this handsome southern gentleman and wonders how she managed to lose her heart to him. The unbalanced and dangerous thief, Livingston, who is intent on stealing the Calhoun emeralds for himself, is introduced in this book. He causes all kinds of trouble (and danger) for the Calhouns.
C.C. and Amanda's stories are sure to please readers. Nora Roberts does a fantastic job of weaving the present day romances with the mystery of the emeralds and tying them to the long-ago story of the unhappily married Bianca Calhoun and her true love Christian. I truly enjoyed this book and I'm sure that you will too.
First story is of Catherine, also called C.C. Trent wanted to purchase The Towers and convert it into one of his fancy hotel chain. Catherine is an expert at fixing vehicles. Two of the most opposite people in the world and yet they fall in love. Trent learns how it hurts to have no choice but to give up an entire family history, such as The Towers is to the Calhouns. A compromise is made. During it all, everyone is searching for the famous Calhoun Emeralds which was a legend. They were hidden somewhere in the mansion.
Second story is Amanda. Well organized and level headed, Amanda always has things running smoothly. But when Sloan enters the picture, Amanda is thrown into pure chaos. She cannot even throw him out of The Towers, because he is the architect hired by Trent to do the renovations. She must be in his presence at home, while he fixes the house. Worse, she must deal with him at her work too, since he is a guest in the hotel where she is Assistant Manager. Through it all, there is a thief intent of breaking into The Towers to locate and steal the famous hidden Calhoun Emeralds.
***Wonderful stories. I love the fact that the plot runs through all the stories, even though each woman has a story of her own.***

In Dreams by Nora Roberts
Kayleen Brennan was on vacation in Ireland, exploring the countryside and hoping to find some goods for her family's antique store in the States. When out exploring, she gets caught in a bad storm. The enigmatic Flynn rescues her, and then her adventures really begin. He is cursed to spend eternity living only through his dreams, with one week every 100 years to truly live. He intends to make this week one to remember with Kayleen, hoping to convince her to be with him forever. She is drawn to him, but when she finds out his secret, will she be able to accept him for who, or what, he is?
This was another good story from a master, but has a tendency to get bogged down in details. Granted, the heroine is an antiques expert, but is it really necessary to go into so much detail about Flynn's furniture? Queen Anne this, Louis XV that, it is overdone and detracts from the story. Kayleen and Flynn make an interesting pair however, complementing each other in many ways. The story surrounding Flynn is intriguing, as to why he is condemned to the "life" he has. If one can get past the over-the-top detail in many places, this is a delightful story.
The Sorcerer's Daughter by Jill Gregory
Willow of Brinhaven's father, a powerful dream sorcerer, is imprisoned for angering the great sorceress Lisha. He is doomed to remain there for 100 years, unless Willow brings Lisha the Necklace of Nyssa, which is protected by the Trolls. He father vows to send out a dream to a protector for Willow on her quest, leading her through the Perilous Forest and Troll's Lair. But in error, the wrong person, Blaine of Kendrick, receives the dream. Blaine is known for causing trouble and his exploits with women, and he is the last person she should count on. But upon meeting, they are drawn to each other and eventually agree to go on the quest together. But the more they are together, the more Blaine wishes for a different quest, one to win the fair Willow's heart forever.
This was quite a fantasy tale, with trolls, sorcerers, and magic galore. It has a cute storyline, with details of Willow's quest, and the matching of wits between Blaine and Willow. Blaine is the typical "bad boy" of those days, and Willow is a young woman trying to overcome her position in life. The sparks between the two of them will light up the darkest of nights. There is also an interesting side story; the real reason Lisha imprisoned Willow's father.
The Enchantment by Ruth Ryan Langan
Annie Tyler is trying to make a real estate business for herself in Maine. Things are going fairly well, but she gets her break when Cordelia Sykes Carrington, one of the wealthiest women in the state, solicits Annie to sell her summer home. When Annie arrives, expecting to have the place to herself, she is surprised to find Ben Carrington, one of Cordelia's sons, show up as well. When they become trapped there together by a sudden storm, strange things begin to happen, with a lack of electricity keeping them cut off from the outside world. But even stranger is the fact that they are falling for each other. When the storm is over and things are back to normal, will they find their attraction is real, or just a dream?
This was an okay story, but probably the least favorite of this reviewer's in the collection. Too many things are far-fetched and unrealistic. Example, Isn't it rather strange that ALL the power in the house, all the phones, and their cell phones don't work, but the refrigerator works just fine? The point is made several times throughout how there was a power failure, but neither character thinks it odd that the refrigerator works when the stove doesn't. Some of these smaller details just confuse the story, distracting one from the love story between Ben and Annie.
The Bridge of Sighs by Marianne Willman
Claire is an American art appraiser, trying to overcome her recent divorce from her adventurous ex-husband, Val. She gets the chance of a lifetime when Count Ludovici of Venice, summons her from one of the oldest and richest families in the city, to inventory and appraise his extensive art collection. She can't resist the chance to return to Venice, where she was born, but left as a young child. Her ex-husband is also there, to photograph the artwork, much to Claire's dismay. Or is it? She still loves him but is convinced things will never work. When she starts having haunting dreams of a young girl, Bianca... a dream which fast becomes a nightmare, upon learning Bianca disappeared many years ago, believed to be murdered. Will Claire and Val learn to be together again, or are they truly meant to be apart? Who is the mysterious Bianca, and what happened that fateful night she disappeared?
This was probably the favorite story in the collection. Especially since this reviewer was reading it during her very own dream vacation in Venice! It was fun to be reading about the very sights being visited. The story in itself is well written, too. Claire is a bit lost; trying to find her place in her life after everything she thought she wanted falls apart. The addition of the sad story of Bianca, enhances the feel of the story, and makes Claire realize she needs to go after her own dreams if she ever wants to be truly happy.
All in all, this is a memorable collection. Each and every book in the "series" these four authors collaborate on is a delight, well worth the addition to any romance lover's library. One will want to make this addition to their "keeper" shelf!
The first story, "In Dreams" by Nora Roberts, is the best. Flynn has been sentenced to an eternity trapped in a half world of dreams, with only one week every century in which to live. Five hundred years into his sentence, when his week is just beginning, Kayleen Brennan, the dark-haired beauty who haunts his dreams, shows up at his door in the middle of a storm. Flynn brings her in and tends to her, and as the two spend time together, the ever-sensible Kayleen begins to see that there really is magic in the world. The romance these two share is both passionate and tender, and will surely warm readers' hearts. At the end of his week will Flynn trap Kayleen in his half world just to keep her with him, or does he love her enough to set her free? This is a highly original and magical tale, and I guarantee it will make you smile!
Next is "The Sorcerer's Daughter" by Jill Gregory, my second favourite story in this anthology. Willow's father, Artemus the sorcerer, has been imprisoned by the powerful sorceress Lisha. The only way to set him free is the retrieve the fabled Necklace of Nyssa and give it to Lisha, so Willow embarks on a highly dangerous journey to find the necklace. Concerned about his daughter and her journey through the "Perilous Forest", Artemus weaves a spell that is supposed to send and old friend to Willow's aid, but instead sends the infamous rogue Blaine of Kendrick, who's out to get the necklace for himself. This is a lovely, fanciful tale and it is sure to please readers.
Third is "The Enchantment" by Ruth Ryan Langan. Annie of Tyler Real Estate has just been given the opportunity of a lifetime when she is asked to sell the Carrington estate in Maine. She travels to the mysterious, deserted estate to check it out, just as Ben Carrington arrives to take one last look at his family home. With a little help from a ghostly presence, Annie and Ben get to know each other on borrowed time, and discover the enchantment of true love. This is an enjoyable and entertaining tale about taking the time for what's really important in life.
Finally is "The Bridge of Sighs" by Marianne Willman, which is the weakest story in the anthology, but is still worth reading. Claire of San Francisco's "Sterling Galleries" travels to Venice to appraise a very special art collection. In Venice, Claire runs into her ex-husband Val everywhere she goes and begins to wonder if she could fix what went wrong between them. Claire is also haunted by dreams of a troubled young woman from the past, and is determined to uncover the truth regarding her fate. This is a lovely story about righting the wrongs of the past in order to create a bright future. The plot of this story was a little weak, as were the characters, but that didn't stop me from reading and enjoying it.
Overall, "Once Upon a Dream" is a wonderful anthology filled with magic and love. Each of the four authors has created an intriguing, fanciful, and original story that will leave you satisfied and happy. So read this book today!
Bailey has amnesia and she hires Cade to help her find out about herself. With a pile of money,a gun, a diamond worth a lot, a mysterious lady and a man- this mystery/romance is worth the read.
I thought it was kind of ironic to have amnesia and hire an PI to find yourself. What a different twist to the typical amnesia romance story. Of course, that is why I Love Nora Roberts books so much, because they are not typical.
These three were no exception. The one complaint that I would have with these three is that the definately work better if you read them in order. This is very rarely the case with Nora Roberts series. Usually each book in a series can stand alone or be read out of order with little loss in clarity. However, this series seemed to build on each other.
Like a lot of Nora's books it is a series and should be read in order so that is what I intend to do.
Bailey is a mysterious women who has a gun, a diamond, a lot of money and amnesia. She hires a Private investigator named Cade to find herself as she only has flashes of who she thinks she is.
The story is short and fast paced and a wonderful mystery and romance. It is great for a quick read if you are one who can't put a book down until the end and don't have a lot of time.
