Johanna Patterson is the producer of a game show and Sam Weaver is the handsome actor who guest stars on it. He is immediately attracted to her, but she does not want to get involved with someone of his type. Since he is gorgeous, single, and rich, this does strain the imagination a bit, but the behind-the-scenes action of the game show industry was interesting.
Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Men wanted to be Sam Weaver and women just wanted him-every woman but Johanna Patterson, that is. Tall, dark, and impossibly handsome, it was no wonder his fame was rivaled only by his reputation! But surely a woman who'd learned her lessons the hard way could resist the most irresistable man alive...couldn't she?"

Once when there were only a handful of time travel books they were primarily thought of as science fiction titles with somewhat complicated theories on how time travel was possible. Authors included names like Madeline L'Engle, Alan Brennert, Jack Finney and the gradaddy of them all H.G. Wells. In the last number of years, though, many romance writers and other authors have also enjoyed dabbling in this genre. Today Nora Roberts writing under the pseudonym JD Robb is also well known for her In Death series which features the character of Eve Dallas, a futuristic policewoman and her boyfriend/husband Roarke.
Time Was tells the story of a young woman holed up in her parents cabin trying to finish an anthropological research project. Suddenly there is a badly injured good looking man at her doorstep who has survived a plane crash. As she nurses him back to good health she senses that something isn't right with him although she fears it is the result of the accident. What she doesn't know is that the young man is hiding more than just his spaceship and how long he can continue to play dumb is less and less possible. All too soon she is stunned by the news that her visitor is not only from another century but from another planet. This revelation will ultimately test this couple's relationship as they become more and more enamored with one another all the while knowing that the man from another place and time will need to return home shortly.
A long time reader and lover of Nora Roberts books I have never really enjoyed her In Death books and found Time Was simply OK. Since I also own Times Change I most likely will read that sometime in the future but from here on in will stick to Roberts present day books and will leave the time travel genre to other authors.

Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Fired from yet another job, Cassidy St. John hardly expected the solution to her difficulties to come looming out of the fog on Fisherman's Wharf. However, the darkly handsome Colin Sullivan seemed the answer to any maiden's prayers.
When Colin offered Cassidy a job modeling for one of his paintings, it seemed her troubles were over- but one look at his blue eyes and Cassidy knew they were just beginning. How could she hide from the pitiless honesty of Colin's artistic vision when with every stroke of his brush he exposed her love for him?"

On the outside, these books portray three strong-willed but very different women who can hold their own. One you get inside, however, you realize that they are weak, pathetic women with tempers to rival a two-year-old, who apparently just cannot resist the wily temptations of whatever mystery man happens along their path. Just once I wish one of them would say "no!" and actually prove that she is her own woman.
And these men! If a man ever tried any of the things with me that Nora Roberts' women let them get away with, I can promise you they would come away hurting.
I do enjoy these novels though because while they are certainly lurid sex stories, at least they have a plot. Sometimes I just wish they weren't all the same plot...
