Great Resource for Collectors of Animation Art
I collect and sell vintage Disney animation art, and this book is a great resource for seeing what pieces have sold for what, and for helping to determine what pieces have been available.

Animaniac!
Mr. Lotmans book is an essential for anyone thinking of buying vintage animation art. Clearly this is one tool that you should have at your side when purchasing at auction or doing provenance work of any kind. Very informative with tonnes of great photographs, this book chronicles auction results from all the major houses over the last decade. Do not get caught without one!!!! P.S. Watch for the next ecition in the series to be published soon. Good Collecting

Read this Book
I read this book awile back during a vacation and couldn't put it down. I only read no-fiction books and this one was the best I'd ever read. I've never felt compelled to review a book before, but his one was worth it. It was very well written, informative as well as inspirational. It made me want to go work at Ideo. Well worth your time.

A keystone book to any library
You are not a pharmacist until you read this book. Nor are you a doctor, lawyer or Indian chief. Every historian, military expert, and anyone with intellectual curiosity will feel compelled to read it.

Those who have read Ayn Rand, George Orwell and Plutarch will include this tome as a lifetime "must read".

Sadly, it is currently out of print.

A most facinating case study of international Business
I first picked up this book in the bargain bin at my college bookstore for only $1.00. It is probably the most interesting non-fiction book I have ever read. Even though it concentrates on the trials and tribulations of aspirin, it gives an interesting picture of over-the-counter drug marketing and promotion during the 20th century. The book is well researched, with liberal footnotes.

The main storyline for the book is about the story of Farbenfabriken Bayer (later IG Farben and Bayer AG) and Sterling Drug, the US owners of the Bayer name (they bought it during an auction of German properties during WWI) It well documents the battle between the two owners of the Bayer name for the Bayer tradmark; a battle that lasted well over 60 years.

One unexpected part of the book was the chapter regarding drug marketing in Latin America. The techniques used there in the mid-20th century closely resemble the patent medicine hucksters in America in the late 1800's.

About the last fourth of the book is dedicated to the recent surge in discoveries of aspirin's use for heart-attacks, stroke, and other clotting related disorders. This is probably the most dry part of the book, but it is still pretty good.

In conclusion this is an excellent book for anyone interested in the history of the drug industry or mass marketing.

This book is a life saver!!
I am an allergy sufferer who recently developed asthma and anaphalyxis (a severe life threatening condition where your airway may be come obstructed and your blood pressure dramatically drops). After suffering 7 anaphalactic episodes in a week and a half (which required calling 911 and one hospital admission) I decided to pick up this book. My doctors couldn't figure out the trigger for these episodes, but this book had the answers. After reading the chapter that deals with food allergies that trigger asthma and anaphalyxis, we discovered that some of the foods I had eaten had sulfur dioxide as a preservative. I knew I was allergic to sulfa drugs, but it never occurred to me to look for sulfur in foods. I have become an avid label reader since. This book also offers insight on avoiding and removing asthma triggers, as well as how to recognize and treat an on-set of an asthma attack. I can't say enough good things for this book. Do yourself and your doctor a favor--get this book!!

Surveys and evaluates all manner of asthma therapies
Jonathan Brostoff, M.D. and biochemist Linda Gamlin bring together their extensive expertise on evolutionary biology, the immune system, integrative medicine, and allergies therapies to present the non-specialist general reader with a clear, accessible, comprehensive guide to all aspects of on of today's most common and widespread health problems in Asthma: The Complete Guide To Integrative Therapies. This exhaustive tome surveys and evaluates all manner of asthma therapies ranging from common pharmaceuticals to alternative medicine approaches. The authors include a step-by-step program to help asthma sufferers identify triggers and make healthful changes. Special advice is provided parents with asthmatic children for the purpose of helping families insure those children live happier, healthier lives. Of special note is the information provided expectant parents with asthma to reduce their risk of their unborn child in acquiring this respiratory affliction. Asthma: The Complete Guide To Integrative Therapies is simply the best guide currently available to asthmatics and their families.

The BEST in its field
An excellent reference to anatomy of the region. The author's background in zoology provided us with beautiful remarks in comparative anatomy, and supplied valuable information about evolution of the human orbit. In accordance with the author's style in writing, this textbook is concise yet complete. A must for any ophthalmic plastic surgeon.

The Best Available
This book is simply the best available reference for detailed anatomy of the orbit. The drawings are superb and the radiographic images are outstanding. It is extremely well-referenced. As an ophthalmic anesthesiologist, I find this volume to be an indispensible part of my professional library.

The world of a baby whale
"Baby Whale's Journey" is a truly magical and beautiful book for young readers. Jonathan London's compassionate and easy-to-read text blends perfectly with the majestic illustrations by Jon Van Zyle. Together, they tell the story of a baby sperm whale's life with her marine community.

The book is full of memorable images: the adult whales protecting the baby from orcas, the mother whale battling a giant squid, and mother and baby simply frolicking in their ocean habitat. Van Zyle's illustrations (most of which stretch across two-page spreads) are superb; Van Zyle is especially adept at capturing the marvelous play of light in the water. "Baby Whale's Journey" is educational, artistically impressive, and emotionally satisfying.

Wondeful Story about A Mother and Baby Whale
This is a great book for children to help them learn about Sperm Whales and provides children with an insight into life below the ocean waves. I would recomend this book to teachers who are looking for a book about Ocean Animals to share with their class. This would also be a good book for a mother to read to her daughter since it talks about the mother/daughter relationship of the whales in this book.

My son is crazy about this book!
My ten month old son has a lot of books, but this one is his absolute favorite. A nice way to introduce animals to a little one. I like the way the author sectioned the book into what sounds the animal makes, animal colors, a 'find my animal baby' section, etc. My son loves the beautiful, colorful photos and responds enthusiastically to them. We have three cats at home, and he squeals when he sees the photos of the cats and kittens. He picks this book out of his pile of toys, sits and pages through it, laughing at his favorite animals - the big pages are easy to turn, even for a wee one, and the book lies flat, so he can study the page he wants. But - of course it's not as strong as a board book, and he has destroyed this one - we have to buy another copy because it has fallen apart, and the tape we used to put it back together doesn't let the pages lie flat. Well worth the money though, because he loves the book.

My kid's favorite baby book
Both of my boys have loved this book. I am buying my fourth book now. The animal pictures are large and vibrant, the selection of animals is great. Each page offers a new activity; colors, attributes and Mom to baby connections. Loved it!

Alot of fun!
My girls and I love this book! What a pleasure to be able to look out our window and now be able to identify the types of birds that live among us. We even now can recognize a bird by sound.

This book includes wonderful pictures with easy to read descriptions of the birds and their habits.

What a great way to spend time with each other having fun exploring and learning.

A book that can be enjoyed at any age.

Fold-out laminated field guide with excellent drawings!
This really useful field guide has great drawings of over 100 species found in neighborhoods in US and Canada. Has a simple system to instantly tell you the region and feeding preferences of birds, in other words, where you are most likely to find them. The drawings are beautiful, colorful and accurate, clearly showing the difference between male and female, and defining markings. I've enjoyed mine thoroughly!

Powerful book on the theology of baptism...
This is no boring, run-of-the-mill theology book, it is an eye-opening look at what makes Christianity such a beautiful religion. A religion of peace and comfort that has affected millions of lives over the centuries. Luther's life was so amazingly simple and yet his thoughts so complex! His theology was for the layman and not for the theologian. Easy-to-understand with practical applications, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves the Christian faith.

Semper es in motu et initio
(Review based on Paperback edition, 2001, Brill Academic Publishers, Boston, Leiden)
With baptism and our faith we are always in motion and at the beginning! Ph. 3:13; Rev. 22:11; 1 Cor. 10:12; Ecclus. 18:7; 1 Cor. 8:2.

Briggs, an Anglican priest, mines Luther across his years as he comes to grips with the gospel and its rich, multi-faceted interconnected majesty. He senses well the potential minefields if one tries and corner or simplify Luther (or Scripture for that matter).

Especially does this book reveal the "present tense" of baptism as Luther came to see it, and the unyielding hold Luther had on God's chosen locatedness in the means of grace, never allowing the Word and water to be separated. Nor would he allow the church's boundaries to be firmly etched based on baptism nor to make visible the inner circle of those who return again and again to their "trysting point" in baptism, as this Englishman likes to speak of it.

This work is rich and thorough. One to read and re-read. Before I comment more on this wonderful discovery of a read, I shall do the same.

One will come away from this with a greater appreciation of the depth and conscience boundness of the Great Reformer to Scripture. Well worth the price and investment of time.
